Using a whole iPhoto Album as screensaver

Until last evening, besides all the built-in screensavers supplied by Apple, all my iPhoto albums were available as screensavers by going to the Apple icon, choosing System Preferences and selecting the "Desktop & Screensaver" icon. Last night I added a few new photos from the web and went to change the screen saver selection, and all the albums were gone. Still in iPhoto - nothing wrong there - but none available to be set as screensavers. Selecting iPhoto Library in Preferences/Desktop & Screensaver doesn't produce the albums for selection. I've looked till I'm too fed up to look anymore. I'm stumped. Can anyone tell me what happened - and how I can go back to my happy carefree days of yore? As it is now, I'm just running some of Apples built-in screensavers. Very nice, but I miss having friends, family and travel scenes. Thank you - anyone!

Sorry about the wrong Forum - I find navigating this site difficult, especially as I don't use it very often [and patience not being always one of my virtues]. Thought "post a new topic" would get me out of the present topic. Nope. Anyway, I'll move this to the proper area and maybe someone will come up with an answer. Your answer was helpful, but I'd tried that. No luck. I've found a way around the problem by re-creating the albums on the desktop, but I still don't know why they disappeared from the Preferences for screensaver without my having changed any settings. Perhaps my computer was having its own form of PMT. Who knows? I don't! Thanks.

  • Use iPhoto album for screensaver

Using Yosemite 10.10.2 and iPhoto 9.6.1.  I want to use an iPhoto Album as the Screensaver; I have been doing this for years with all previous OS and iPhoto versions.  Now, the "Source" in the System Preferences: Screensaver Pane: My Pictures has a limited set of options.  1. Under Photo Library, I can pick one or many individual photos, but Albums are not listed.  2. Under "Choose Folder, I can choose "Picture", but iPhoto Library is gray (not selectable).

    Howdy wjfeeh,
Rebuilding your iPhoto Library may help get your albums to appear in the list of options for your screensaver.

  • Can't use iPhoto Album as Screensaver in Snow Leopard with iLife '11?

I just upgraded my iMac to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) so I could install iLife '11.
After installing both, I noticed my screen saver wasn't using the iPhoto album I had originally selected before the upgrade.
When going to System Preferences > Destop & Screen Saver > Screen Saver the options are:
    Apple
         Arabesque
         Computer Name
         Flurry
         iTunes Artwork
         RSS Visualizer
         Shell
         Spectrum
         Word of the Day
    Pictures
         Shuffle
         Abstract
         Beach
         Cosmos
         Forest
         Nature Patterns
         Paper Shadow
There used to be an option for iPhoto albums, or am I just not seeing something?

  • IPhoto album as screensaver?

I used to be able to select a certain iPhoto album as a screen saver preference, now iPhoto is grayed out and I cannot select it. What happened? I can still do this as a desktop background, but now in the screensaver option, it prompts me to select from a source that includes a few default collections (National Geographic, Aerial, etc.) or you can "choose folder". When I do that my iphoto option is grayed out and I cannot select it. Any ideas on how to do this now, I find it hard to believe I can't use my iphoto photos as a screensaver anymore. Help!

  • How do I get to my iphoto albums to use as screensaver in OS X 10.8?

How do I get to my iphoto albums to use as screensaver in OS X 10.8? As it is, I am limited to the pre-seloected screensavers (National
geographic, etc.).  When I get to the field for "Folder" and select "Pictures", the iPhoto Library is there, but it is in faint print (along with most other files in the Pcitures folder) indicating that they can't be selected.

    Hi.
    I'm having the same issue.
    • Photo Library is not a Source option in the Screen Saver Preference pane.
    • iPhoto Library and Photo Booth Library are not selectable options with Source > Choose Folder...
    • No "screensaver cache" exists on my machine.
I've trashed the preferences for screen saver (user/library/preferences/com.apple.screensaver.plist). Didn't help.
    Also trashed ...systempreferences.plist.  Didn't help.
I replaced the current preference pane with the Desktop & Screensaver pane from OS X Lion (from TM backup). Didn't help.
I can duplicate this even when I boot from another install of Mountain Lion that I have on an external drive used for troubleshooting
My workaround is to drag the photos that I would like to use from particular Events or Albums from within iPhoto into a like-named folder in Finder. Then select that folder as the Source from the Screen Saver System Preferences pane.
In the big scheme of things this, for me, is a relatively minor thing. And I can work around it.
But, it's obvious that something is not working properly, and it's probably something that the software folks at Apple should look into.
    My setup is:
    • mid-2010 iMac, 17", 3.06/16/500
    • OS X 10.8.1
    • iPhoto '09 (v8.1.2)

  • Where are my iPhoto albums in the screensaver

In 10.3 I could select specific iPhoto albums to use as screensavers under the system preferences. Now that I've upgraded to 10.4.3, I don't see the albums, I can only navigate to a folder. How do I get the albums to display?

Under the picture well, in Desktop & Screensaver window,I have a list of things to choose from, starting with Apple Images and so on. The last item in this list is Choose Folder, then there's a line, under that line is says Library, and if you scroll down past that. all your albums should appear.

  • Apple TV Screensaver stuck on Iphoto Album

I made an IPhoto album of friends pictures and set Apple TV screensaver to it. Worked fine. Now I'd like to change the screensaver's library back to IPhoto Events or Photos and can't find those libraries on Apple TV screensaver. All I get is the "friends" album. How do I get the IPhot "Events" and "Photos" libraries back?

Ok. If you just wanted to view your library manually then you would just make sure all pictures have been selected in iTunes (file - home sharing - choose photos to share). You can then view them under the Computers icon on Apple TV.
If you want to mirror, native use will require a Mac from 2011 or later, running OSX 10.8 or later. Older hardware can use 3rd party software like Airparrot. You would then just create the slideshow on your Mac and activate mirroring to display on your HDTV via Apple TV.
Note: both methods require the computer to be on. Home sharing will need iTunes to be open as well.

I get this pop up when trying to create a photo book through the iPhoto store.
"Some or all of the photos you selected were downloaded from your published albums. You can only view these photos. To use them in an album or a slideshow or project, you must import them to your photo library."
The photos I have selected have already been imported so how and why do I do it all over again?
What do they mean by published albums?  I categorize them into photo albums for organizational purposes after I import them from my camera or phone. So why can't I put them into a book now?
I have over 400 photos selected for a photo book for my child's graduation gift so how can I tell which photos I have to do this to?
Please help. Any insight wouyld be appreciated.
    Confused and frustrated...

Give this a try:  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.

  • IPhoto albums not showing up in screensaver

I have just updated to iLife 09. Now when I go to system preferences - screen saver - pictures, my iPhoto albums no longer come up. I can only choose a folder called Pictures folder and it contains all of my iPhoto pictures. I cannot narrow it to one album or event that I have created.
Very odd thing...this is only occuring on my Macbook. My Mac Mini has everything in place.
Any suggestions or ideas of what I can do to fix this? Thanks.

Getting really frustrated. I replaced my iphoto library from a backup. Checked system preferences - screensaver and my iphoto library was there. Opened iphoto and it wanted to scan faces. Froze after about 20 min. Had to force quit - actually shut down. Opened iphoto and it started the scan process again. Checked system preferences - screensaver again. All was well. Back to iphoto while it was scanning - 17 min to go. iphoto unexpectantly quit. Checked system preferences, iphoto albums gone in screensaver. Everything in iphoto seems ok. All pictures, albums, events, etc. are there. Even deleted iphoto prefs like suggested for something else.
What else can I possibly do?

  • After I updated my MacbookPro with a Maverick, my iphoto cannot be used anymore.  Is there a way to send my old iphoto albums to icloud or is it just too late?

I updated my Mac with a Maverick, but my iphoto cannot be used any more  Is there a way to send my old iphoto albums to icloud or is it just too late? My iphoto icon is in my dock, but it's crossed out, and won't operate.

    Hi Barry!
I owe you a proper Thank you! You were right about me needing to update my software. I have been pretty clueless about many of the computer applications I've heard of, but I've learned a bit by doing what you suggested.  I was able to "fix" my iphoto and a I got a few other nice changes after updating the 3 free updates that were available to me.  Thanks so much! - One thing that was so wonderful about getting my iphoto "back" was being able to  share my photos with my Dad for this weekend-during his 88th birthday!
I'm glad I found you in our "community".  Hopefully,  I can learn enough to help others too, eventually.
    All the best to you,

  • Editing iphoto Album using Pages 08

I had the issue of Mac Life that ran an editorial on how to incorporate pages with iphoto album. I THREW it out doing spring cleaning. Yes im an idiot.
So... are there any links on the web or here that can help assist me in learning how to combine the two programs to use for my benefit of making my album better?
    Thanks a million...
AND.. lol... if you happen to have a link to that issue ill gladly mow your lawn.

You can use a page or multiple pages from Pages or Keynote in iPhoto by doing a Print to PDF and selecting the Send PDF to iPhoto menu option. That will create a jpg version of each page of the document which is imported into iPhoto and can be used in an book page with a one photo per page layout, a slideshow, or any other iPhoto feautre just like any jpg file. I use it to make an iDVD slideshow of every book I create and order.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

How do I sort Albums using Photos or iPhoto for iPad 3?

Spare yourself the frustration of sorting photos with the Photo App.
Use a 3rd party apps like Photo Manager Pro. You'll be able to drag the photos to any position you want.

  • I have my wallpaper/screensaver pointed at my iPhoto album. why does a photo of half dome pop up occasionally? where is the photo stored?

i have an late '09 27" iMac upgraded to yosemite (I've accepted all upgrades from apple along the way). i have my alternating backgrounds & screensaver pointed at my iPhoto album. so why does a photo of half dome pop up occasionally? where is the photo stored? i have been to yosemite many times and do love the scenery there, but i'd like to be in charge of my screensaver. i've tried looking for the photo by name/name fragment,  but of course, if apple doesn't want us to find it, we won't find it. i don't like apple preventing me from setting up background/screensaver to my liking. apple makes the computer for the rest of us.

    You're welcome.
have you noticed for yourself if these photos are always mixed with one's selection via system preferences?
Actually no.  What I have always done was this:  I have a collection of custom desktop pictures   I made a custom folder for the pictures & placed them inside the Machintosh>Library>Desktop Pictures folder.
Then I went into System Preferences>Desktop & Screensaver>Desktop, clicked on the plus sign to add my custom picture folder.
    Restarted my comp.
Never had any issues by doing the above.  I have always done it this way since the Tiger OS.
