Using a Windows Wireless card on Mac?

Hey Guys, I have WUSB54Gc Linksys Wirreless Card. It only has Windows Drivers.. but I need to be able to use it on my Mac. Could I run Windows as a virtual Machine alongside my Mac and port that for internet? Or is there a way I could get Windows Drivers to run on a Mac?

There is no Mac driver for that device.  You may be able to get it running in Windows with the Windows driver.
Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system.
See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows. You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • HT4628 I can not use the internal wireless card with my Mac pro 2012, I don't know if it is broken

I can not use the internal wireless card with my Mac pro 2012, I don't know if it is broken. The problem is happen recently, I have to use an independent wireless card now. Thanks!

When you enable Internet Sharing in OS X, you are creating a separate sub-net.
There is no option to allow this to be a simple pass-through from Ethernet to AirPort (or the other way).
The problem is easily solved by getting an inexpensive wireless router. You can replace your current router OR disable the DHCP server on the wireless router and allow the wireless clients to get an IP address from the current router.

  • Power Mac G3 Pismo with Airport wireless card in Mac OS X 10.4 won't connect to wireless network  with  newest Airport Extreme Base Station set at WPA Personal/WPA 2 Personal encryption.

My Power Book G3 Pismo with an Airport wireless card  running Mac OS X 10.4.11 will not connect to my new Airport
Extreme Base Station using WPA Personal/WPA 2 Person encryption.  The Airport firmware is version 9.52.  From
posts I've read online at different places indicates the Airport card should support the WPA encryption.  Perhaps the problem
is the Base Station is using a combination setting and the fault is in the base station?
    Thanks for any suggestions

Perhaps an inexpensive usb wireless adapter would work as well?
This is probably the simplest way to get the G3 connected to the wireless network.
I'll have to read up on getting an express and using it as a wireless bridge as I am unfamiliar with the concept.
The new AirPort Extreme is broadcasting a wireless signal.
A new AirPort Express could be located close to the G3. The Express will pick up the wireless signal from the AirPort Extreme, then provide an Ethernet connection to the G3 though a short Ethernet cable.
This can work very well......IF.....you keep the G3 at a fixed location, since it will always be connected to the AriPort Express using an Ethernet cable.
I do have an old Linksys Wireless G router.  I wonder if that would work?
In theory, yes. But it would have to use much older WEP "security", which is easily cracked in minutes using free tools available on the Internet. So, anyone who really wanted to get on the network could do so. It's an option, but not a very good one.

To use factime on your Mac, I believe you will need to use your email address to do so instead of your wireless number.  Since you can't make calls on the Mac.

  • Using my Windows iPod on a Mac

    I own a windows-formatted 30GB iPod Photo (4th gen ipod).
The ipod itself works without any problems. If I attach it to my Windows machine, the iPod is recognized by itunes and syncs my library without problems.
I want to start syncing the ipod with my mac instead of my windows machine. Everything I have read claims one of the following:
    1) A Mac can use a Windows formatted ipod without problems
    2) The ipod needs to be reformatted for the Mac.
I am fine with either of these. I have the music backed up on an external hard drive and don't need to use the ipod with windows anymore, so reformatting the ipod for mac would not be a problem for me if necessary.
The problem is that when I attach the iPod to my Mac (a macbook air running Leopard), iTunes does not give any indication that it sees the ipod. The ipod itself displays "do not disconnect" on the screen and seems to be charging as it should be; I am confident that the USB port and cable are fine. However, iTunes does not list the ipod as a device or give any indication that it is connected.
In order to reformat it for the mac, I need to use Restore functionality within iTunes (right?), but I can't do that if itunes doesn't list my ipod. What do I do?

Wow! That is crazy. I've been using a Windows formatted iPod on my Mac for many years without a problem. But just recently, I have the same problem as the original poster. Sometimes I connect my iPod to my Mac and it does not mount. Rather, the iPod acts as if I plugged it into a wall powered USB cable. It charges, but does not mount. No sign of the iPod on the Mac. If I unplug it and try again (and maybe a 3rd time), the iPod finally mounts.
Is this a sign that my iPod is dying? I hope not, because it is a 160 gig version and I love having that much space.

  • Which Wireless Card for Mac Pro 2.93ghz (4.1)

    Hi,
I would like to add a wireless card to my Mac Pro 2.93ghz (4.1)(early 2009) but im a little unsure of which card is compatible, after searching on the net for info I have these model numbers - Airport Extreme MB988Z/A or MB988ZM/A.
    Many thanks,
    Antz

I have an Early '08 Mac Pro running an 8800GT in Slot 1 and a 2600XT in Slot 2.
I got my 2600 for $50 USD and have found it to work very quietly and without fuss. It's 3D performance is a little lacking but I didn't buy it for that.
It installed straight into Slot 2 and requires no additional power cable. I've also the above setup running four 23" Apple Cinema Displays without breaking a sweat.
As for your 7300 predicament, for all intensive purposes, this card does not have an the correct internal ROM required to boot an Early '08 Mac Pro. Whilst I've not tested it, I've no reason to doubt well-informed comments from other members:

  • Cisco 340 wireless card with Mac OS 9?

I'm trying to get a Cisco 340 Wireless pcmcia card working with my G3 laptop (wallstreet) running 9.2.2. Can anyone tell me what software I need to get to make this work? Is the driver included with Airport software? Is there a generic wireless card system extension that I need? I'm kind of lost here.

  • No airport card easiest way to access wireless can you use a usb wireless on the mac

My mac pro is not equiped wirelessly, what is the easiest way to access internet wirelessly.
CanI purchase a usb wireless to work on the mac pro?

yes, you sure can.usb wifi adapters are availabe for your Mac Pro. try afterthemac.com. I don't work for them, just the first page that popped up. Dlink
makes something, but you may have heard a few stories about how DLink might be
'iffy' (someone else's words, not mine). Oh, and apparently, you can make an antenna signal  booster out of an aluminum can.....
    anyways, best of luck

  • Adding windows pcmci card in Mac g4

Is it possible to plug in a linksys, pcmci wireless g card into the internal airport card on my Mac G4? Is there any harm in trying it to see if it would work?

    Hi-
I have seen many reports on the web, of Mac users doing well with the Linksys cards. They seem to be Broadcom 54 chip based, which is what Apple uses. It may not report right in your profiler, but it's worth a try.

  • Bought the wrong software... I use Mac, but bought Windows software. Can I use the Windows version in my Mac? And how do I find Adobe Customer Support help??

I´m actually quite pissed off now... I´ve been trying to find Adobe Support or a telephone number to call, but all I can find is this Forum help site.
    Problem:
I searched the web for the best photo editing software to be used with Mac. Adobe Photoshop Elements 13came up on top. I followed the links and clicked my way through the order process... When I was done, I see that I had purchased  the software for Windows.
I wanted to call Adobe so I could change to Mac software, but can´t find out where to do this?? Now I am wasting a perfectly good morning trying to find contact information to Adobe.

You can contact Adobe directly for a platform swap using the link below. Use the dropdown menu for boxes (1) & (2) to scroll down the list and choose:
    1. Adobe Photoshop Elements
    2. Adobe ID, and signing-in
    3. Click on the blue button: Still need help? Contact us – then click the area marked chat 24/7, then click “start chat ”
It’s usually possible to start a live chat, if an Adobe agent is free, and often to get the problem fixed right away. Have your serial number available.

  • How to use a windows app on my Mac.

I am using an iMac with the latest version of Yosemite (10.10.2). It is a work computer and there is one company that we work with that is stubborn and won't come out with a mac version of it's software. I don't want to pay for anything to use this one measly program. Does anyone know of any free software to make this work besides Wine/Winebottler? I tried these quickly but apparently I am too stupid to make these work. You have to actually know something about computers.

Yes, you would, but it's cheaper than Windows, and you'll know if it works before spending any money.

  • Airport Extreme with Bluetooth 2.0 Wireless Card

Can anyone recommend a feasible solution to the Airport Extreme with Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR card? I can only find it at Mac-Pro.com and they want a whopping $217 for it - ridiculous. I assume the cost is so high because no one else has them, but alternatively, I may just go with a Wireless 802.11g Compact Wireless USB Adapter and see if it connects.
Anyone had any luck finding this particular Airport card under $100 or tried alternative means to get a good connection with their wireless router on a PowerMac G5 (Late 2005)?

The Airport/Bluetooth upgrade kit that you're looking at from Mac-Pro.com is only sold as a replacement part, which is why it's so expensive. Same reason why the replacement video cards are also so expensive.
Welovemacs.com also has them, but the price is pretty much the same since you need the Airport/Bluetooth card, the runway card, and the standoffs (all provided together in the kit).
There isn't any selection in PCIe wireless cards for Macs, that I'm aware of. MacWireless.com has a USB stick that'll work and offers 802.11n speeds.
