Using Acrobat PDFMaker Bookmark Options

I am using Windows (7 64-bit) and Word 2007 (SP2 MSO). I am using Acrobat 9 Pro (9.4.1) to convert a Word document to PDF. The bookmarks created in the PDF document are for all Word Heading styles (H1, H2, H3, H4, H5). However, on the Bookmarks tab of the Adobe PDF Maker, I only selected 3 heading styles (H1, H2, H3) for bookmarks. The Convert Word Bookmarks check box is NOT selected.
This is a very basic PDF feature, so I am puzzled as to why it is not working for me. Any suggestions for settings I should review in Adobe Acrobat? Microsoft Word 2007? Windows 7? Are there certain features I should have selected when I installed Adobe Acrobat after my system was upgraded to Windows 7/Office 2007?
Over the past 6+ months, I have researched a lot of sources and I have been unable to find a solution to my problem. (I do not want to make any manual changes to my Word styles (i.e., changing the Outline Level of styles - which I can't do because I am having issues with default Word heading styles.))
Thanks for your help!

  • I have been organizing my bookmarks into folders. There are a bunch of bookmarks that appear on the Bookmarks Menu that do not appear when I used the Organize Bookmarks option. Therefore I can't organize them. How do I get at them and move them to folders

    I used Organize Bookmarks to put some bookmarks in folders. When I had done all the bookmarks that appeared outside of folders in the Organize Bookmarks window, I closed it and looked at my bookmarks menu. Under my folders were some other bookmarks that I hadn't seen in Organize Bookmarks and when I used it again, they still weren't visible. Therefore, I couldn't move them into folders.

    Update - I discovered that the entire list of bookmarks can be accessed in the Organize Bookmarks window by clicking on the icon for Bookmarks Menu.
    This seem like odd interface behaviour to me.
    All the other software I use follows the pattern that an icon with a triangle to the left, which you click on to expand the menu tree downwards, shows the entire contents of the category when you click on the triangle. In other words, you don't get a different response by clicking on the icon from what you get by clicking on the triangle.
    It also seems odd to me that when an unsorted bookmarks folder is automatically provided that unsorted bookmarks would not be placed there by default.
    Anyway, by getting the list of bookmarks displayed this way I was able to simply right-click on items in the list and delete them, as I thought I should be able to do. Problem solved. Organize Bookmarks interface found to be somewhat unintuitive.

    This hasn't been an issue before (using the same version of both softwares). I checked in Conversion Settings, and both Add Links and Create Bookmarks are checked. Help! Thanks!

  • Acrobat PDFmaker is ignoring hard page breaks in Word docx

    I'm working with a client's Word docx file which is formatted almost entirely with tables and uses hard page breaks throughout. When the document is exported to a PDF using Acrobat PDFMaker, some of the hard page breaks are rendered but some of them are completely ignored. In those cases, section breaks, extra spaces and anything else is ignored, too. It simply runs the table and/or text together as if there was nothing between them. I'm totally baffled. I turned off all widow/orphan control and keep options.

    Glad you found a solution. I am not quite sure what you did or why what was suggested did not work. If you can ever post a document or part of such that demonstrates the problem and the inability of Acrobat to resolve it, I would be interested (a learning process!).
    In terms of WORD, I have seen many forms that folks create in WORD and have similar problems. In many cases they like to use as much of the page as possible. When I try to print the form on my printer, or even view it, it is generally messed up. This WORD form aspect is similar to the book issue you have mentioned. It is characteristic of the reflow of word processors based on the printer metrics.
    You might find this link (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/preserve-original-appearance-for-viewing-or-pr inting-HP005189614.aspx) helpful in maintaining the layout. In OFFICE 2007 use of printer metrics was turned off by default in the Options>Advanced>Compatibility. I believe they turned it back in with later updates and versions. The article also mentions the issues with various fonts and the need to embed fonts. Unfortunately, the newer versions of WORD do not embed the fonts of vector graphics.

  • Acrobat 9.4.0 PDFMaker - Bookmarks not formatting correctly

    Acrobat PDFMaker – In Word 2007, using the Acrobat tab | Preferences | Bookmarks tab,
    we set Heading 2 and Heading 4 to Levels 1 and 2 respectively. We then scroll down and set a custom style (“TitleTOC”) for the TOC as also as Level 1. The Bookmark Options Convert Word Headings to Bookmarks and Convert Word Styles to Bookmarks are automatically marked. On the PDFMaker Settings tab, we check the Create Bookmarks option under Application Settings.
    When the PDF is created, it includes ALL headings/styles so that the generated list of Bookmarks is too long (and essentially meaningless).
    If we go back to the PDFMaker and unmark Create Bookmarks (since this field overrides the Bookmarks tab parameters), it doesn’t create ANY Bookmarks.
    This never happened with previous versions. Is this a bug with version 9.4.0, or is there a new option with the recent update (week of 10/18 or 10/25/10) that requires new settings for Bookmarks to be generated correctly?
    Thanks in advance for any insight into this problem.

    Damn, nobody replied to you and your problem. I have the same here: Acrobat Pro is updated automatically but now it cannot start up as it asks for a serial number and my CS4 number doesn;t work. It seems it isn't linked with the CS4 serial number or so.

  • Get wrong bookmark levels when converting Word to PDF using Acrobat 7.0

    I am using MS Word 2003, Windows XP and Adobe Acrobat 7.0.
    When converting a DOC to PDF, all features are perfect except the bookmarks are located at the wrong level, i.e., the first chapter "Introduction" is the first level, which is desired; but the second chapter and the later will be placed as the subitems of the first one. This is a severe problem for me for I need a very accurate convertion.
    P.S.  I set the convertion level of bookmarks correctly before the convertion.
    So I wonder if there is any solution relating to the settings of Word or Acrobat.
    I am using Acrobat 7 because the later versions(8.0 etc.) has the running header problem. If 7.0 is also problematic. I don't know which version can do a perfect conversion.

    Thank you for your answer Lori. I 've checked all the desired options and have done the conversion in Acrobat 8.0 and got right levels(but that one got problematic running headers). So i think this may be the problem of acrobat 7.0. I will try the other updated versions to see if there is any improvement.

  • To access bookmarks in pdf doc using acrobat sdk with C#

    Hi, I am converting a word doc to PDF. While doing this the headlines in word doc are getting converted to bookmarks in PDF & I get a bookmark tree. I want the bookmarks to be collapsed. I am using acrobat dll to convert word doc to pdf. Want to use the same to collapse the bookmarks.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi Irosenth,
    If we have Acrobat installed on our m/c in Micorsoft office word I get an "Acrobat" tab. In that I get an option to create "PDF" from word.
    So keeping this in mind I created a  project in C# using VS 2008. In this project I took the reference of "Acrobat.dll" the com library.
    Using the reference of this library I converted the word/excel/ppt docs to PDF.
    Below is the code snippet :
    public
    void startConversion(string docFile, string pdfFile){
    Acrobat.
    AcroAVDocClass _acroDoc = new Acrobat.AcroAVDocClass();Acrobat.
    AcroPDDoc _pdDoc = null;
    string strNonPDFFile = docFile;
    string strPDFFile = pdfFile;
    _acroDoc.Open(strNonPDFFile, strPDFFile);
    _pdDoc = (Acrobat.
    AcroPDDoc)(_acroDoc.GetPDDoc());
    _pdDoc.Save(
    Convert.ToInt16(Acrobat.PDSaveFlags.PDSaveFull), strPDFFile);
    _pdDoc.Close();
    _pdDoc =
    null;_acroDoc.Close(1);
    _acroDoc =
    null;}
    This does convert Word/exce/ppt to pdf successfully. But I wanted to get access to the bookmarks of the PDF file....
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Lalit

  • I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud

    I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud option in Acrobat. Kindly help me to sortout this problems?

    So I tried generating the same PDFs on two other computers that have Acrobat 9 Pro.  Results were reproduced.  The verdict is:
    - complex PDF files (that is, containing cross-references, tables of contents, and bookmarks) generated by Acrobat 9.x Pro are roughly 2-5x larger than the identical file generated with Acrobat 8.x Pro.
    - different PDF conversion settings make a negligable difference (less than 10% rather than 70-80%).
    - using the "Reduce File Size" or "Optimize PDF" option cuts the file size roughly in half, almost always resulting in a "image downsampling mask" warning message, which requires acknowledgement (that is a problem for batch processing or automation).
    - adding an Acrobat watermark to the file cuts the file size roughly in half.
    - just using Save As to another filename has no effect on file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 with links but no PDF bookmarks still results in the inflated file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 without any links or bookmarks results in approximately the same file size as the Acrobat 8 PDF with full links and bookmarks.
    It appears that Acrobat 9's manner of adding links is what's bloating  the files, and in my case it's probably not related to images or image resolution/print quality.  It's a shame, because Acrobat 9 seems to have made some  improvements to the Review Tracker interface, and a few other bells and  whistles which I haven't really gotten around to exporing yet.  But  unless I find a way to keep my links and the PDF file sizes comparable to what I was  getting with Acrobat 8 Pro, it looks like I'm going to stay with Acrobat 8.

  • Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Addin for Microsoft Office 365 does not work. When I check the cox for COM Add-ins, it unchecks it. "A runtime error occurred during the loading of the COM Add-in." I use Adobe X Professional. The Add-in worked fine in Office 2

    I recently upgraded to Microsoft 365 Home and use Outlook 2013. The Acrobat PDFMaker Addin worked fine in Office 2010. Now, I get an error message: Not loaded. A runtime error occurred during the loading of the COM Add-in.
    I use Adobe Acrobat X Professional.
    I have restarted Outlook, restarted my computer, and nothing changes.
    Does anyone have a solution?
    Steve

    I do not think that AA X is compatible with the newest versions of OFFICE and such. Your only choice is to print to the Adobe PDF printer or use the MS plugins to create PDFs.
