  • Using Address Book to send SMS via Bluetooth

    Hi all,
I recently upgraded to 10.4.6 (from 10.4.5) to take advantage of the new iSync support for the Nokia N70.
(I had previously been using a modified Metaclasses.plist hack for this and prior to the upgrade to .6, restored the original .plist)
I also followed the advice in Apple article 303419 about removing the phone from iSync.
So, upgrade fine and re paired phone with iSync but now find that I can no longer use Address Book to send SMS message or dial a call to current contact.
This worked fine with the hack!
    Any ideas?

I am using OS X10.4.6 via Bluetooth connecting to Nokia N70 also. I have no problem with iSync and file transfer. But I can NOT send and receive SMS from Address book.

  • Using Address Book with Word

Does anyone know of a way to use Address Book with Word? I've looked here and other places and can't seem to find an answer. My guess is know, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks!

Forget Word - I've moved on to Pages.

  • Using Address Book with 2 mobile phones

Since a few weeks I have a second mobile phone that I also use with iSync for contact and calendar synchronisation. The problem was that Address Book could only pair with / connect to the newly added phone, not the 'old phone' anymore.
I found some old threads with the same problem stated, but no answers were given. I did find a fix for it though. I used the application Pref Setter to clear the preferences of Address Book (you can also delete the file located at: /library/preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist). Restart Address Book and the bleutooth mobile phone entry is now empty again. You will be able to choose a phone to pair with.
However, if anyone knows how to use 2 phones simultaniously, please tell me!

You can't use Address Book with more than one phone at the same time unfortunately, it simply does not have this functionality.
I developed a little application called "Reset Address Book Pairing" which does exactly that without deleting (and therefore losing) your Address Book preferences. Just one setting in the prefs actually needs changing.
It's included with the Sony Ericsson Address Book Enabler, which adds Call & SMS support for over 40 new Sony Ericsson phones to the Mac Address Book.

  • Address Book & Bluetooth

I have just upgraded to Leopard and I appear to have lost a function from address book.
In the past there used to be a bluetooth icon on the toolbar which when activated connected to your mobile phone. When somebody called a pop-up screen appeared giving details of who was calling and options to pick up the call.
Does anybody know where this feature has gone and if so how to re-activate it.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Wow...
It seems I've found another removed feature or capability every week since "upgrading" to Leopard.
There are widgets to replace the SMS features that the address book bluetooth supported. But I haven't found anything to replace the caller ID or dialing feature.
Add that to killing Unsanity's APE, no scrolling or sound control in the preview of media file and the loss of so many older programs, control panels, screen savers, etc...
Leopard is looking more and more like the upgrade from XP to Vista, where you lose as many features as you gain.
The sad thing is, there was no simple way to see all you would lose by "upgrading" to Leopard. At least Microsoft gives you a matrix (albeit confusing) to see what version of Vista you need so you won't lose something you need. With Leopard, the gives you five pretty examples of what you MIGHT be able to do, but no indication of what you will no longer be able to do.
I don't usually participate in the discussion boards, but I just went to dial a number in my address book and realized another of the "upgraded features" of Leopard.
    This is getting frustrating.
Does anyone know of a third-party solution for dialing from the address book?
    Thank you.

  • Address Book / Bluetooth issue -- Can you help?

I have a Sony Ericsson K800i cell phone and a new black macbook. I have the two devices connected and can use iSync, but I cannot use Address book to make calls or SMS. I also have an old powerbook which works fine with the K800i.
I can only assume now that it is an issue with my MacBook. Does any one have any idea how to get it working? I can get it to connect, but it doesn't want to make phone calls or SMS.
Can anyone help? It would be much appreciated.
    -Grant

Just googled "K800i Apple address book bluetooth sms" and found this link
    http://www.fscklog.com/2006/09/sek800i_mitma.html
Its in german but copy and paste 10 points into sherlock and traslate to english.
Very simple to follow, took under a minute and now bluetooth sms and calls work a treat.
Have rehashed the clumsy translation and included below for you
    1. Backup your address book and quit the application.
    2. Right-click on address Book.app - > ' show Package CONTENTS '
    3. Continue to go it into Contents/Resources
    4 into Telephony.bundle
Right click ' show Package CONTENTS '
5 As before Contents/Resources to advance
6 Duplicate your ABDeviceCommandSets.plist for security
7 Open ABDeviceCommandSets.plist to with TextEdit
    8 Search for' K700 '
9 Copy that string line and paste below replacing K700 with K800
    < string>K800</string >
    10. Finished. Open address book and test sms and dialing
Now telephone numbers can be dialled and sms sent
    Enjoy!
    Thanks to Leo...

  • Automator, Address book & Bluetooth - Automatic vCard sender.

I would like my PowerBook to continuosly scan for nearby Bluetooth devices, and on detection send a vCard to them.
It would also be nice if it only attempted to send the vCard once, previously found device should be left alone.
Could this be done with Automator?
    Best regards,

I also can't get my new ROKR to use the Address Book bluetooth functions. I've looked online everywhere and no where is there documentation the matter. I can use iSync but when I click the bluetooth button in Address Book is asks me to pair the device and I do but then it doesn't seem to pair it even tho it says pairing was successful. It just brings me back to Address Book with the bluetooth button gray again forcing me to repair the device.

  • I can not get imac w/Snow Leopard's address book to sync with ipad 1correctly? I only get about half the contacts?

I have tried repeatedly to get my address book on my imac w/ snow leopard to sync to my ipad 1 correctly and have failed every time. I only get about 1/3 the number of contacts and they don't all even correlate with the ones on the imac. Like one will have full middle name and the other only the initial. I don't know where itunes is getting these contacts but doesn't match those in my address book. I keep telling itunes to replace the contacts on the ipad with those on my mac but it doesnt work. Can't do it with icloud cause snow leopard doesn't support, it still wants to use the non existant mobile me format. Hope someone can help. I added the all amnually once before but they screwed up when I sync each time.

Thanks for your response Ernie. You are correct in that whenever you type a series of letters, Address Book (as it always has) finds every single thing with that combination of letters - Names, businesses, adjectives, people's dogs' names, letters in product serial numbers, etc. This is useful for finding a subject on the Web, or finding all documents related to 'iPhoto' on your Mac, etc., but not useful, quick or convenient when trying to find one person to call in your Address Book (which is what people use Address Book for).
What is DIFFERENT in the Snow Leopard version, is that the ability to type one letter to instantly go to last names with that letter has been removed. Previously, you could easily find 'Bill Tilman' in one second by simply typing 'T'. Now you get every word that starts with T and all the words in the card that have a T in them. If you type out a full name like 'Bill', it finds every person named Bill. No one would ever want to find all their contacts named Bill to call them. You could type out the full last name 'Tilman', but there again you are forced to type out a complete name to do a search. It would actually be quicker to scroll down and find it manually. The ability to type a single letter to find the last name (or business name) of a contact you needed to call, was much quicker and easier than having to type out the entire name.

  • Address Book Search Feature Died

I'm baffled. One minute I'm using Address Book fine. The next, I type any text in the search box and the results come up blank.
All my contacts are still there. They show up if I click on "All" or on any of my groups I've created.
But I cannot search for a name. With 1400 names that's a lot of manual searching to do.
    Any suggestions?

Don’t reinstall anything. Your data is stored within your home folder, not in the application itself. Try this:
    1. In Address Book, do File > Back up Address Book, just in case.
    2. Quit Address Book, Mail, and any other applications that might use Address Book for something. Or just quit all applications to be on the safe side.
    3. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Caches/ and move the Address Book and com.apple.AddressBook folders to the Trash (there is no need to empty the Trash yet). Check whether the problem is fixed.
    4. If the problem persists, quit all applications again, go to ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ and trash any ABPerson.skIndex or ABPerson.skIndexInverted files you may see there. Check whether the problem is fixed.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • Using Address Book Exporter to move Address Book Contacts to Palm Desktop

I have had strangely mixed results using "Address Book Exporter" to create files that can be imported into Palm Desktop.
I really want to export all 1200 of my Address book cards to my new Treo 700P. Too complex?
I set up a new group in my Address Book and placed about 400 cards in it. I then used Address Book Exporter to export all of these records using template "Palm Desktop" onto a .txt file on my hard drive.
When I opened my Palm Desktop application and clicked on import, I first had to cause the dialogue box to show all files rather than just "readable files" in order for the exported files to be available. When I clicked on the file of 400 Address book cards that I had exported, I got the dialogue box similar to FileMaker where you have to line up the receiving fields in the Palm Desktop application with the fields in the file that Address Book Exporter created.
When I set the "fields" drop-down menu to "addresses" and set the "Delimiters" drop-down menu to "Palm Desktop", everything just lined up automatically. No futher adjustments were needed. I just clicked OK and the 400 records were transferred to my Palm Desktop Address list - ready to further transfer to my new Treo 700P - successfully.
But when I went through this exact same routine, instead exporting all of the cards in my Address book, when I got to the last step and set the two drop down menus - the "fields" drop-down menu to "addresses" and set the "Delimiters" drop-down menu to "Palm Desktop" - nothing happened. The fields in the exported file did not line up at all. The created export file I opened showed only one "superfield' with all the data in it (just as the earlier example had, at first) which would not change to all of the fields needed to line up with the Palm Desktop importing fields as had happened in the first example.
Why the two different reactions to what seems to be the same routines? Does Address Book Exporter have a cap on the size of the export it can handle?
    I just don't understand it.

  • Address Book database replaced with 2003 database???

Wow!! My Address Book database has reverted to 2003.
I've been using Address Book as a major database for my clients since switching back to Mail and Address Book, after Tiger came out.
This week, now that Entourage is Spotlight enabled, I've started to switch back, but I was continuing to use both. If I remember right, I dragged all the V-Cards from Address Book to the Entourage Address Book. I had enabled .Mac syncing of Address Book. I've been using both the Entourage Address Book and Apple's Address Book in the few days since doing that.
Suddenly, this morning I wake up and go to add a new client into Address Book and it has only me and Apple in it and for me it has an old address!
    In the ~ Library
    Addressbook.data is dated 10/6/05.
    AddressBook.data.backup is dated 5/3/03.
    AddressBook.data.beforesave is dated 5/2/05
    AddressBook.data.previous is dated 10/4/05
In my iDisk, which I've been backing to regularly, the incremental backups are dated from 9/20/05 to 9/25/05.
When I went to my .Mac backup/Address Book it said, ".Mac contacts have been reset with Sync" but, in fact all 532 of my contacts are there.
What's going on??? And for that matter, how do I safely get them all back to my computer? I just disabled syncing. I've got most addresses both in Entourage and on my External HD backup, but there are recent ones of this week or two.

  • Solved: SYNC address book on mac with my blackberry 9800 Torch

ok the issue is that brand new out of the box the 9800 will (at least did not with me) not work with my mac at home for sync to address book.
Issue #1, the CD that comes witht he phone is the small one, so don't bother trying to use that cd in your mac, it will get stuck and you'll have to find a mechanical way to remove that cd out of your mac.
Solution to this issue is to download the BB Desktop Manager from the BB website.
ok so now you are running the BB desktop manager. looks simple and cool... Ical syncs up fine but the address book doesn't
A work around is to sync up with GMAIL and then add the GMAIL contacts to your BB phone. its a bandaid fix. not the solution.
Ok so on to solving this :
Step 1, if you are like me you enabled the WiFi on your BB phone. don't get me wrong WiFi works good, not great but good. Temporarily turn it off... yes RIM you have a bug with your WiFi tool on your BB phone that causes apps from your BB apps store to not download correctly. (COD Timeouts) ok so now that you turned off the WiFi, go to your browser on your BB phone and head on over to : www.blackberry.com/messenger
download that app update. with WiFi, it times out after a few minutes. when WiFi is turned off, it downloads rather fast.  Once it downloads your phone will reboot, wait a few seconds/minutes then connect your phone back to the BB Desktop Manager. In my case it SYNC'd up fine on my Calendar and Address Book.
Please post your BB model and issue you had/ if this solution helped you.  Thanks.

quick question before i give this a shot -
when you say that your address book is synced with your Torch, does that include more than 2 phone numbers per contact, all addresses and email addresses?
my boss can sync with address book, but only two phone numbers. some contacts have up to 7 numbers saved on her mac's address book.
    thanks!

    Thanx for any help!

    Hello,
if you need to sync your media files as well, you might want to have a look at FoneSync for Android. It features an iTunes like interface and syncs contacts, calendars, music and photos.
