Using Adobe 8.1.2 some PDF files won't print

Since we've upgraded to the latest version of Reader, 8.1.2, some of the files won't print. For example, this morning I got two PDF files in the same email, they both opened in Reader, but only one of them prints--sending to a Canon ImageRunner 5570 printer/copier/fax machine. I'm not getting any error messages on my computer, it just doesn't print?
If I save a copy of the unprintable PDF to my desktop, then open in Acrobat 6.0 Standard (older version I know), it prints fine to the same printer.
Does anyone know what's going on here? Best, David.

We've been having the same problems printing to a Canon ImageRunner 4570, 8.1.2 won't print but 6 will. We can print to our other HP printer fine from 8.1.2, so it seems to be specific to the Canon. Tried printing from a shallow folder structure, but that hasn't seemed to have helped. Anyone heard if this is unique to the Canon printers? Thanks - Mike

While trying to find a solution for that issue, I stumbled across a post that describes a similar problem with jpegs:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/979919
One reply suggests: "Are you sure that these images are send with a proper MIME type for images and not with a generic MIME type that makes Firefox show the "Open with" dialog? "
The suggested solution, an extension called Open-in-Browser https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/open-in-browser/
works fine regarding the pdfs in question, and is acceptable for me, although I agree with the poster from above, that " it is a bug that should be fixed instead of relying on an extension".

  • Updated Firefox doesn't like to use Adobe Acrobat reader to read pdf files. Why

Since I have upgraded to a newer version of Firefox, I can no longer read or print most pdf files found on the internet with Adobe Acrobat reader. This is very frustrating. It has been happening for the past 3 weeks.

  • Some pdf files won't open in browser while others do - how to fix that?

    Hello,
just switched from Opera to Firefox and - with the help of some add-ons - feel pretty satisfied already.
One annoying problem though: While many pdf-files will open properly with PDF-XChange Viewer plugin within the browser, there are many websites with links to pdf files where the setting "Use PDF-XChange Viewer (within Firefox)" prompts Firefox to download the file instead.
    Examples:
    http://www.visitbritainshop.com/nordics/travel-transport/london-transport.html
The map of London Transport (link in the middle of the site) will open within the browser
    http://search.knightfrank.co.uk/ngh140118
The floorplan or the brochure won't open within the browser but be downloaded instead
I've never experienced this (in Opera) before.
What could be the reason for that? And is there a way to change it?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Indesign-generated .pdf files won't print

I realize this question is vague to the point of being unanswerable, but here I go anyway.
Our department's publication person sent me a number of chapters of our book in progress so that I could print an uncorrected proof to show to our funding source. She emailed me .pdf files generated by InDesign CS2, probably, although it might have been CS3.
She also emailed me the indesign file for the frontmatter because I had some things to add, so the .pdf for that I generated myself.
I took everything to a local printer we regularly use. To print this job he was using a large commercial Canon setup I think. None of the .pdfs would print on it. He ended up having to print them all as images for the purposes of creating a proof for me.
Now, I printed all of them myself on our networked postscript printer, both from a Mac and a Windows machine, no problem.
Since the files had been emailed to me, and then to him, we thought maybe they got corrupted, so I brought them over on a disk, but that didn't help, not even the one file whose .pdf I generated myself would print.
So is this an issue that has come up--indesign-generated .pdf files being unprintable on a commercial printer but printable on a postscript machine.

    Dov and Al,
Yes, I'm sorry, I do realize that this isn't enough to diagnose a problem. I was hoping that this might be something that has come up before and someone would recognize.
As far as I could tell, he was opening up the print jobs in Acrobat and sending them to his printer, which had its own job monitor. When he consulted that monitor he just said, no, it won't print.
He's a smart guy and I've done a number of jobs with him that were generated in indesign, so I'm really at a loss to explain what has gone wrong with this one.

  • Pdf file won't print

Whenever I try to print a pdf file the printer stops working. It only happens with the pdf. I trashed the existing acrobat and it worked for a day, then started doing it again. I hooked up my ibook to the printer and it prints pdf's fine, Any suggestions?

There are numerous posts on the net of slow printing of pdf files with certain HP printers. I myself suffer from this (on an HP1200 Laserjet) and despite installing additional RAM on my otherwise wonderful printer, have seen no improvement. Google ["slow printing" pdf os x] and you will find many many reports of this. If your problem stems from this issue, I don't think a solution has been made available yet, unfortunately.
Here is a sample of other users' experiences from hp's boards:

  • ? When I try to use Adobe reader or open a PDF file

I get the Error "Invalid plugin detected Adobe will quit" How do I fix this?

In that case, you might try this forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/acrobat_windows This one covers a different Adobe product.
What it sounds like is that one of the helper programs that reader uses, called plug-ins, isn't working. If you've recently added a plug-in, you might try removing it. Otherwise, I would be inclined to uninstall reader and reinstall the latest version.

  • Adobe Reader 9.3.2 - PDF attachment won't print from right click

    Hi all,
Hopefully someone can assist some kind of suggestion, we have just rolled out Adobe Reader 9.3.2 upgrade from v8.  When we now try to print a PDF Outlook 2003 attachment from the right click menu, we are prompted with the 'Open With' window.  Selecting Adobe Reader 9.3 and press okay opens the document, but it doesn't spool.  We can print the document fine from Adobe Reader itself, any ideas?
    TIA
    Frosty

I have seen the same problem in this forum a couple of times (on Windows Vista and 7 only), but I have never seen a solution for it.
Can you try if Adobe Reader 8.2 does the same?  Download it from here http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/8.x/8.2/enu/AdbeRdr820_en_US.msi
If the same happens with Reader 8.2, then I have no other suggestion than to try an alternate PDF viewer.

  • PDF File Won't print text, just watermark and image

    Hello,
I have created a fillable/saveable PDF.  I have one client who states that when he attempts to print it, it only prints the watermark and our logo in the upper right corner.  He says that it won't save either.  He has made an attempt at two different computers.  There is a similar PDF we created that he can print and save properly.  So far it's just the one we are having trouble with.
When we check it on our end, it works fine.  We can save and print it fine.  I have asked what browser he is using and await a reply.
Any ideas on a setting on his computer, browser or Adobe Reader I can have him check?
    Many thanks!,
    Dave

As far as the printing, he likely does not have document and markup selected. The document is the original PDF and the markup would be form fields and such.
As for saving, if he is using Reader he will not be able to save unless you have activated Reader Rights. There are license restrictions on using the activation you should read before you go on your merry way, generally restricting the number of uses (500) of the form for data collection in that case.

  • Italic fonts are missing in Table in PDF files when we print it out

The PDF display correctly when we use Adobe Reader 9 to open it or print it out.

  • Unable to open some pdf files by clicking on them, but can open in Adobe Reader 10.1.0.

When I click directly on some pdf files which have been saved in My Documents, I get an error message: "Before proceeding you must first launch Adobe Acrobat and accept the end user license agreement."  Yet, I can open those same files from Adobe Acrobat, they open easily.  This has only happened with PDF files saved from two credit card companies; my bank PDFs and other pdfs can be opened without first opening Adobe Acrobat.  Is there some security block I need to undo or ??  (I am the administrator of these files.)  I have done a reinstall and a repair, but this didn't help.  (I am using Adobe Reader 10.1.0 on Windows 7)

Glad to know that it worked. You can get more information about Protected Mode from the following link:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/860/cpsid_86063.html
Although the issue you describe should not be related to the Protected Mode anyhow, but it seems that its a bug in the product.

  • Why do some pdf files not open with Adobe Reader X, most open OK?

On my wife's 64 bit WIN 7 computer, a some pdf files will not open, but most open OK.
She uses Acrobat Reader X and MS Office 2010.
The same problem files open with no problem on my very similar computer.
Is the problem with some setting on the Acrobat Reader or something else?
Sometimes there is this error message when the problem files do not open:
Find Click2run64.msi file to install MS Office Click to Run.
But MS Office Click to Run is already installed on her PC.  It is not on my PC.
    Thanks for your help.

The latest Reader is 11.0.01, not 11.0.1.  It is named Adobe Reader XI.
I did uninstall the Reader X and installed this latest one.
But it did not solve the problem, still could not open the problem pdf's .
I did find the problem was caused by the MS Office Click to Run error referred to in my original message.  As far as I know we have no use for that on my wife's computer. Not sure how it got there.   I uninstalled it and so far the problem pdf's open fine now.  Problem solved.
    Thanks for your help.

Safari 7.0.6, using Adobe Acrobat 11.0.10, isn't rendering pdf files in the Print Preview screen.  Additionally, only a single, blank page prints for a multi-page pdf document.  Any ideas?

Figured it out.  It had nothing to do with the software levels of Safari or Adobe Acrobat.  Here's the fix:
    Open Finder/Applications
    Search "Internet Plug-Ins"
Move any Adobe plug-ins to the trash
    Quit Safari
    Launch Safari
Your pdf document should now render in Print Preview and print properly.
