Using Adobe Elements 7 - changing eye colour
Need to have help in changing or adding eye colour to a photograph - Very simply explained please.
Zoom in on the eyes so you have a large enough working area. Here's the original:
Select the iris. You can use several of the selection tools, in this case I only used the Quick Selection tool. You'll want to use multiple tools and spend some time to get the selection right.
With the irises selected, use Layer...New...Layer via Copy to create a layer with only the irises:
Set the Foreground colour to a dark version of the colour you want, and use the Color Replacement tool on the irises layer to colour the eyes:
Having the irises on their own layer allows you to change the layer blending mode, etc., to get the effect you want.

i am on windows 8 platform, i used adobe elements to work on my image - the output is in dng format, how do i convert this to jpg format?
When you make a DNG that's like making another raw file, so you will need to convert the DNG file just like your original raw. Don't use the Save button in the raw converter. That's just a link to the DNG converter. Normally you would click Open instead and then save in the editor as a jpg or other image format of your choice.

Using Adobe Elements 12 on IMac
I recently switched from a PC to IMac. I have used Adobe Elements for 10+ years to organize my photos. When I got the new IMac they imported all of my photos into IPhoto. I tried to use IPhoto but decided I did not want to go back and try to organize all those old photos all over again. I decided to get Adobe Elements 12 and restored my catalog on my IMac. I am still importing photos to IPhoto from my IPad and IPhone and want to be able to import select photos from IPhoto into Elements Organizer (not all of the photos). I know you can select import>IPhoto but am afraid it will import all of those photos or will it recognize the photos as duplicates?? I have been afraid to try. I am going to have to find some expert to delete the duplicate photos I now have on my IMac since I downloaded the photos initially and them imported the Elements catalog. Also is there anyway to have photos that automatically download to IPhoto to go into Elements instead? In my ideal world I would like to just use Elements. Thanks for any help.
If you really want to continue with this workflow, the way would be to select the photos in iphoto and export them, put them where you want to keep them, and use "from files and folders". You're correct that "from iphoto" will duplicate the entire iphoto library.

Changing eye colour using fireworks
I'm looking for a tutorial, preferably a video / flash
tutorial that explains how to change a person's eye colour using
fireworks.
Anyone know where I can find one on the web?
Many thanks in advance. Kr, RichardRichard Gent wrote:

IMHO, good video tutorials are rare. I learn best when I have
a book or
tutorial I've printed out sitting next to me on my desk
instead of
watching the instructor in the movie and forgetting half of
what was
taught before I try to apply it. The very act of disengaging
from the
movie to repeat the work on your own causes a shift in the
part of the
brain you are using, and can create confusion. There are
exceptions,
however.
The exceptions are interactive video tutorials where you
appear to be
actually working in the movie software interface, and you are
prompted
to reproduce the instructor's actions immediately following
his own. The
successful repetition of the instructor's actions are then
followed by
positive audio and visual feedback. Those types of lessons
can be even
more powerful when the tutorial is ended with a Q&A
session. They are
difficult to do well. IMHO, the best tool for those types of
tutorials
is Adobe Captivate.

Unexpected Quit (using Adobe elements)
I have not had my macbook pro for long now. Ive been using photoshop elements since i bought my lappy.
However, i now have a problem opening elements. I get the error message:
The application Photoshop Elements quit unexpectedly
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected
Photoshop will not open.
Ive ben in touch with adobe. They suggested i deleted photoshop settings and try again (didnt work) and they also suggested creating a new user account and trying again. This worked. However having a seperate account to run photoshop is a pain. Adobe have now referred me back here as they say there is a problem with my user account being corrupt or defective.
Does anyone have any ideasHey,
I dont have any app enhancers installed or anything like that. Photoshop just decided to stop working one day. i tried using the disk utility to repair permissions but that didnt work either
the crash log is pretty lengthy......
this is the report when adobe fails to open

Mac - Iphoto using Adobe Elements 9 to edit
I recently bought a Mac. I want to use IPhoto to pull my photos off the camera and to organize. The preference
for Editing is Photoshop Elements 9. When I click on Edit in Iphoto, the Elements Welcome Screen appears
and it then starts churning away "Gathering User Info". 30 minutes later it's still gathering. Seems to be in a
loop. I reinstalled it and the same thing happens. What do I do?You chose the wrong file from the PSE folder. Go back and pick the one above it. Details here:

Can I use Abobe Elements 12 for Black & White adjustment layers?
The convert to black and white solution is a good one, but it's not an adjustment layer.
There are other solutions :
- combining a hue/sat adjustment layer to play with the colors (like colored filters) and another one with saturation to zero.
- or using a black to white adjustment layer in luminosity mode, either alone or on top of a hue/sat one like above. -
Iphoto 6 and using Adobe Elements with RAW?
When I open Elements and proceed to open a RAW file it will not open picture taken with Canon RAW. It asks for a file size? Any suggestions?
matbran1:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You may need Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 3.6 Beta ... this plugin for PE3 to handle RAW.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance. -
How to edit Vine App videos using Adobe Elements?
Hey guys, I'm trying to edit videos to use for the Vine App but every time i go and save the work it always saves with black borders around the videos when i try to upload them. Can anyone help? I was told Vine use 480x480 resolution as MP4 videos but it still comes out with the borders.
Any help would be appreciated.julio
I tried to road test this by downloading and installing the Vine App, but all I had was iPod Touch 4th generation which cannot be updated to meet the requirements for Vine App.
So, please give the following its road test, and let us see if this works for you....
1. Open Premiere Elements 13 to its Expert workspace. Edit Menu/Preferences/General and remove the check mark next to "Default Scale to Frame Size".
2. Import your source media 1080p into Premiere Elements 13 (Add Media/Files and Folders) and make your 6 sec segment. You can selectively export that
6 seconds segment without having to get rid of the rest of the Timeline
a. move the gray tabs to span just that Timeline segment
and
b. when in the export area make sure that there is a check mark next to Share Work Area Bar Only.
This first screenshot was done with version 10, but points to the two requirements for selective import that applies to 13 as well.
3. Go to Publish+Share/Mobile Phones and Players/Apple iPod, iPad, and iPhone/ with Presets = "Apple iPad 2,3, 4, Mini; iPhone 4S, 5, 5S; Apple TV3 - 1080p29.97"
Under the Advanced Button.Video Tab of that preset customize the preset as shown in the following screenshot
Video Tab opened to show details.....
Check out the Multiplexer Tab to assure that
Multiplexer = MP4
Stream Compatibility = iPod
This should give you a 480 x 480 H.264.mp4 file (6 seconds duration) saved to the computer hard drive location that you designate.
You can also produce a H.264.mov file using Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime. We can go
into that next if necessary.
We will be watching for your results.
Thank you.

Rendering quality bad using Adobe Premiere elements.
I was told to start a new discussion about my problem: The Mpeg rendering have such bad quality in APEleements, and it trembls so much whenever there is movement in the vídeo. I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0 and the quality for the same videos is so much better. I wanted to buy APElements also, but watching the APE rendered film, made me not want to buy it anymore. (My camera is a Sony HDR-XR550 with AVCHD quality.
I received the following answer:
Valdo_PT
A major factor in the type of issue that you describe goes to how the project was set up and the selection for export.
For us to rule in or out those types of factors, more information is needed.
1.Computer operating system....?
2. Project Preset.....Are you setting the project preset manually or are you letting the project it do it automatically based on the properties of the first file that you
drag to the Timeline? See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General.
3. Properties of the source file(s).....You say they were videos recorded with Sony HDR-XR550/AVCHD video compression..... are they 1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second or something else? What is the file extension?
4. What is your export selection?
Are your major problems in Edit area or Export area? Have you applied Field Options to your video if your camera is recording interlaced and not progressive video?
Let us start here and then decide what next.
Thanks.
ATR
My answer:
Hello, ATR. Thank you, for replying my question.
1- My computer operating system is windows 8.1, but I also have a computer with Vista.
2- The project preset is chosen automatically, by the APE.
The project settings are already chosen(Icannot change the edit mode - that is HDV 10801 - and the timebase 25,00.
The video is 1440 horizontal and 1080 vertical. Display format is 25 fps.
3 - The file extesnsion is mts.
4- I am rendering the film to Mpeg, Pal DVD Widescreen.
5- My problem is that the rendered quality is very bad.
I tried to check if the video is interlaced or progressive, but I don't know how. I used the software bitrate
viewer, but it doesn't recognise mts video.
Thanks,
ValdoATR, thank you for your answer.
a. I am using Adobe Elements 11.
b. In the Elements MPEG rendered films there’s some distortion, flicker, blurriness and moving lines, mostly when there’s movement in the film.
1. My operating system is Win 8.1 32 bit.
2. The project is by default PAL-AVCHD-Full HD -1080i 25.
3. In the Elements MPEG rendered films there’s some distortion, flicker, blurriness and moving lines, mostly when there’s movement in the film.
b. The AVCHD.mp4 has also problems, as MPeg2-1920x1080i.25. From those exports I tried, the M2t-H264-1440x1080i has clear vision, there is no problems. But all of these I can only watch in the PC, not in the TV, because of the reason I will explain next.
The intent is to watch in my TV (or other TVs) the family films I create. The problem is that they have to be MPEG 2 because my Hd tv media player is good but a little out of time and mostly it plays dvix and MPEG.
4. I reversed the Field Dominance, but there were no improvements.
Yes, the only problem I have is with the quality of the rendering.
5. I have used MediaInfo, but in the info it provides about the file there was nothing saying if it is interlaced or progressive video.
Thanks, Valdo -
Can't sync photos with Adobe Elements 6.0
Hi I am unable to sync my photographs to the iPod using Adobe Elements 6.0 The albums are not showing up in iTunes. I read somewhere that it may work if the photos are in "collections" & not Albums but I can't work out how to do this.
The iTunes help section says that Elements v3 or later will sync photos. Can anyone help me on this? I did wait for the latest version of iTunes before asking.
Many thanks, I look forward to your replies.
RoyI solved the mystery. It had to do with the file metadata in the Photoshop Elements catalog. When I moved the catalog (pictures) from my old machine to the new machine, the path (folder location) of the images changed. So, although the catalog had cached thumbnails of the photos to display in Photoshop Elements (which tricked me into thinking that the path to the images was correct), the paths were actually wrong. All I had to do was “reconnect” the missing images (a feature in Photoshop Elements which corrects missing/wrong paths to images) and now everything works correctly (sync in iTunes).

IPhoto as Library and Adobe Elements Organizer as download client
I wanted to use Adobe Elements 9 Organizer as the download client as I can actually see image files saved and grouped by folders and iPhoto as library and creative authoring.
Will using iPhoto to create library from Pictures Folder (those saved by Elements Organizer) duplicate the photos that are already in that folder? I kind think that iPhoto will copy those photos into its own. I worry about duplicating the JPEG files in my Pictures Folder.
Thanks.I'm with Larry when he says to pick one horse and ride it. This can get quite confusing very quickly.
To answer your specific question:
Will using iPhoto to create library from Pictures Folder (those saved by Elements Organizer) duplicate the photos that are already in that folder
By default, yes, but you can set iPhoto not to. But note: a: What Happens when you do - for instance, that various versions of the files will not be available except through iPhoto, which will confuse your proposed system, and b: The various caveats to running a Referenced Library.
*How to do it:*
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
*What Happens:*
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
*Some things to consider:*
1. Importing and deleting pics are more complex procedures. You have to to put the files where they will be stored before importing them. When you delete them you'll need to remove the files from the HD yourself.
2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
4. Because iPhoto has no tools for managing Referenced Files, if, for some reason, the path to the photos changes then you could find yourself resolving aliases for +each photo in the Library+ one by one.
My own opinion:
I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organiser
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
*An Alternative*
Set Elements as an External Editor in iPhoto: You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.

Printing from Adobe Elements 6 and getting unwanted borders
I recently had to get a new Epson printer. I previously had an R1800 and now have the 1400. When I used Adobe Elements to open and print a photo that I have printed in the past without a border now prints with a 1.5" border on the right side and the bottom of the 8.5 x 11 glossy sheet. But when I open the pic in other software it prints the full 8.5 x 11 sheet with no borders. When looking at the print box it shows the pic without borders but then when it prints it has the borders. I even click "borderless" but that does not work either. The only thing I changed was the new Epson printer. Please help.
mine does not look like that ....the 3 boxes are "page setup" ....."print"......"cancel"......there is no "more options" box to click.
