Using all memory, including virtual memory

For some reason Final Cut Pro 10.0.3 doesn't get past the loading screen, it's worked fine until yesterday - havent done any system updates, or program upgrades.  When I start the program, I can see the square that says FCP, and I can see the interface loading in the background, but it never comes out of that loading screen.  It uses all 18 GB of my memory, even after a restart, then it goes to my hard drive for more virtual memory.  I have 37 GB free, it uses all that and then 'pauses' according to my Force Quit screen.  I'm in a big rush to get this fixed - I work at a church, and this is the Friday before Easter, which is a really big weekend, and of course, people want to see these videos before the end of the day, or earlier....  Any help would be much appreciated!!

Thanks innocentius.  I found the culprit, after much troubleshooting and help from Apple.  When I loaded Final Cut, the loading screen would always get stuck 'loading the 'easter' event'.  There was a PSD file in the easter event that I was working on yesterday that suddenly didn't like Final Cut.  In the PSD, I had created a very complex vector shape, and I think Final Cut was trying to render the vector without success.  But, it could have just been a corrupted PSD.  Either way, I went to the Final Cut Events folder, found the PSD, moved it somewhere else, and voila, everything is back to normal!

How i can use all memory? My idea is use 7 Gb of memory for each machine and 1.5-2 Gb for host.

    Hi maxx-ode,
As far as I know ,to get free memory you still need to subtract the "standby memroy" from the output of the command in your original post .
Please refer to the article "Memory Sizing Guidance for Windows 7" within the link below :
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/windows/hardware/dn550976
    " Standby List
The Standby list contains unmodified pages that have been removed from process working sets, which effectively makes the Standby list a cache. If a process needs a page that is on the Standby list, the memory manager immediately returns the page to its
    working set.
All pages on the Standby list are available for memory allocation requests. If a process requests memory, the memory manager can take a page from the Standby list, initialize it, and allocate it to the calling process. This is called repurposing a page.
Pages on the Standby list are often from recently used files. By keeping these pages on the Standby list, the memory manager reduces the need to read information from the disk. Disk reads
    can decrease system responsiveness. "
Please try to use this command to get the "real" free memory of host (in bytes):
    (Get-WmiObject Win32_PerfFormattedData_PerfOS_Memory -ComputerName localhost).FreeAndZeroPageListBytes
"Free & Zero Page List Bytes is the amount of physical memory, in bytes, that is assigned to the free and zero page lists. This memory does not contain cached data. It is immediately available for allocation to a process or for system use.
Update: Actually we can allocate some standby RAM to VM , based on my test I can't allocate whole standby RAM .Then I used
RAMMap to check the usage and I found that Mapped file occupied most RAM .For mapped file please refer to following link:

  • POA Agent Uses Uses all memory in system then is killed.

    System OES2 SP3 latest patches
    Groupwise 2012 SP1
    4GB Ram
The POA is uses all the memory growing to 65% before the system is out of memory.
Ran GWCheck structure and content fix.
    Opened a SR with Novell.
Found the SLAP error, did the procedures per Tid=7009119
Start the POA everything seem okay, so added couple of user. After all the users got on the system the memory usage started to climb.
    Check the logs no errors.
Could this be caused by on of the clients????
    Any Idea would help
    Thanks
    Jody

How many users on this POA? The POA can consume a large amount of RAM, but not normally. Ours is sitting at about .5GB for about 500 heavy users. The GWIA and GWINTER typically grow very fat: 2 -4 GB.
Since you have a SR open, work the problem with the engineer, if it looks like its languishing, you can always ask for an escalation.
Does this server have swap configured? A caption from top might help us to know whats what, including the line for the POA in question.

  • Issue to use all memory installed on server

currently running crystal report server 2008 (12.1.0.882) Crystal 32bit on powerfull  Dell server R 905 with 64 Gig memory..
There are currently 15 instances of Crystal running on this server, with each being allocated a maximum of 2GB.  The aim of the design is for the memory to be chunk up into 2GB each and allocation to the 15 instances of Crystal (2GB x 15), therefore we donu2019t want the instances to exceed the 2GB limit imposed.
but all 15 instances use maximum 6 Gig memory on server even we have 64 Gig memory available. using page file and cpu goes to %100 and very slow performance.
using /pae switch in boot.ini and server shows all 64 Gig memory and can be use all these memories by a test application
thanks for sharing any information to resolve this issue.
    Nick

    Hi Nick,
I Believe you are using Crystal Reports Server Embedded and working with Lawson to resolve this issue which is why I moved this to the Java Development forum.
To get more details are you running 15 instances of Crystal RAS according to the CCM?
RAS is not pae aware and although you can use the boot.ini switch to increase this we highly suggest you don't. I also don't believe we will limit if you are trying to limit it to 2 gig.
Can you check the number of CPU's enabled in License Manager according to the key code?
Also, how many reports are you running at one time?
How many users are logged in?
Are the reports all on demand reports or are they being exported to some format and e-mailed out etc.?
If you working with Lawson possibly what we can do is set up a conference call?
    Thank you
    Don
PS - also note Crystal Reports Server is a standalone version of the full Enterprise produce but it is limited to one server and one PC. It is not the same as Crystal Reports Server Embedded which is standalone Crystal Report RAS and used for application development only. There is no SAP interface to it.

  • Win2k8R2 svchost.exe suddenly starts to use all memory

    Dear all
I have a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 + current Patchlevel Remote Desktop Host. Installed are a lot of applications, SCCM 2012 Client, Kasperksky AntiVirus Enterprise Edition.
Yesterday i had the problem that the svchost.exe is using all RAM of the Server (32GB) and has a private working set of 120GB. A quick "fix" was to restart the server. And now after around 24h i have the same problem again.
I did not change something on the server except install the Microsoft CA Hotfix against flame.
The svchost that has this problem controls this services:
    svchost.exe
AeLookupSvc, CertPropSvc, gpsvc, IKEEXT, iphlpsvc, LanmanServer, MMCSS, ProfSvc, Schedule, SENS, SessionEnv, ShellHWDetection, Themes, Winmgmt
The server is now running since 2 Years without any problems and now it starts :/
After a restart this svchost.exe is using just 48MB RAM.
    Thanks for any tips
    JBAB

    Hi,
For troubleshooting purposes please reconfigure so that the services for this group run in their own process.  To do this you may create a .cmd file using Notepad with the following contents:
    sc config AeLookupSvc type= own
    sc config Appinfo type= own
    sc config AppMgmt type= own
    sc config BITS type= own
    sc config Browser type= own
    sc config CertPropSvc type= own
    sc config EapHost type= own
    sc config gpsvc type= own
    sc config hkmsvc type= own
    sc config IKEEXT type= own
    sc config iphlpsvc type= own
    sc config LanmanServer type= own
    sc config MMCSS type= own
    sc config MSiSCSI type= own
    sc config ProfSvc type= own
    sc config RasAuto type= own
    sc config RasMan type= own
    sc config RemoteAccess type= own
    sc config sacsvr type= own
    sc config Schedule type= own
    sc config SCPolicySvc type= own
    sc config seclogon type= own
    sc config SENS type= own
    sc config SessionEnv type= own
    sc config SharedAccess type= own
    sc config ShellHWDetection type= own
    sc config Themes type= own
    sc config wercplsupport type= own
    sc config Winmgmt type= own
    sc config wuauserv type= own
After saving the file please double-click to apply the changes and then restart your server so that they will take effect.
After restarting your server please open task manager, select the Processes tab, and sort the display by the memory column so that the processes that are using the most memory will appear on top.  When one of the services starts to use too much memory
you will be able to right-click on it and choose Go to Service(s) and you will know which service is misbehaving.
    Thanks.

  • MBP not using all memory while rendering video

    Hey,
When I do rendering in Adobe Premiere Por CS6, my Mac is not using all the available RAM: 2773 MB used....5416 MB free
    Memory Pages:
                                  1658 MB active....1099 MB wired
                                  5420 MB inactive....11.2 MB free
it also says that:       3 swap files at peak usage
256 MB total swap space (20 MB used)
350 GB free storage space( total 750 GB)
    I have a MBP (OS x Lion) late 2011 with i7 2.8 GHz and 8 GB RAM
Adobe Premiere Pro is set to use 6.5 GB of RAM but not even while working in the programme it has ever used that much of memory.
During rendering, it is the only app running, except for Google Chrome.
If this info is not enough, just ask what do you need to know...
    PLEASE HELP, rendering takes forever.
    Thanks,
      kund

You never said what model Mac you have. Since this is the MacBook Pro forum, I assume you have some version of the MBP. 390% CPU would indicate CPU-boundedness for a quad-core CPU without active hyperthreading, or a dual-core CPU with hyperthreading active.
Given the high CPU usage and the low swap usage, it seems unlikely that memory usage is the problem, but I'm not a Premiere Pro user, so I couldn't guess what it.
You might try posting your question in an Adobe forum for Premiere Pro.

  • Calendar agent using all memory.

I am running a late 2012 iMac running Mavricks. This morning my computer hung. After rebooting it it hung again in a few minutes. I ran activity monitor and noticed that the calendar agent process slowing uses all the memory and then the OS starts using virutal memory on disk causing the computer to be ususable. I found an article to run off the calendar agent that fixes the issue for now.
    launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.CalendarAgent.plist
Does anyone know why this all of a sudden would happen? I have not made any changes to my system recently, I use Gmail for my email and calendar.
    Thanks!

I am using MacBook Pro 2014 Retina Display. Initially came with Mavericks and upgraded to Yosemite (10.10.2).
Had the same Problem. Calendar Agent took nearly 6 to 7 GB of the RAM and left me with 15MB ram. Got really irritated. But found this after a hard struggle. I tried the above solutions, think didn’t quite work for me.
Follow the steps you will get your problem solved.
Backup all the calendar events to your iCloud by enabling calendar in the internet accounts from system preferences. (Do this step only if you need your events to be there).
    Then open TERMINAL and type.
    chflags nohidden /Users/*******/Library
******* represents your username or the name in which your mac is started with. This name can be seen from "Macintosh HD” then “Users” then the user which you are..
After running the command then again type in TERMINAL
    chflags nohidden /Users/*******/Library/Containers
Now close the TERMINAL after running it.
Now, open finder and goto "Macintosh HD” then to “Users” then the user which you are then “Library” then “Calendars”.
In “Calendars” you have got to delete some files.
    Those are:
    Calendar Cache
    Calendar Cache- shm
    Calendar Cache- wal
    Email Cache.plist
Actually after deleting it,restarting PC solves the problem.
Sometimes you can’t delete those files because the Calendar Agent uses them and is running in background.
For that you have got to open Activity Monitor and Force Quit Calendar Agent and delete.
Restart your PC. Then open Calendar. Nothing happens and is back to normal.

  • AE CS5 not using all memory and cpu

I am using After Effects CS5, wondering why the rendering is not using my CPU and memory full. It`s using only 15 % of memory and sometimes up to 50 % of CPU. What can I do to make it use better my hardware.
The current rendering is chroma key using Keylight.
I understand it can`t use all the hardware, but why only 15 %, because everybody is talking that you need a lot of RAM for AE.
CPU: Intel Core i7 920 - overclocked to 3.4 GHz
    MEMORY: 6 GB DDR3
    GRAPHIC: nVidia GTX 285

Not all rendering operations will max out all RAM and all CPUs (processor cores). Some rendering operations are I/O intensive; some are memory-intensive; some are CPU-intensive. If, for example, I/O is the bottleneck, then you won't see either CPU or RAM usage maxed.
Also, the goal isn't to see that 100% of the CPU and 100% of of RAM is being used. The goal is faster rendering (and other operations). Sometimes greatest performance is achieved when there's "headroom" left over for other activity. See this page.
Are you using Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing? That is one feature that really benefits from having a lot of RAM. The 6GB of RAM that you have in your system is not enough to make effective use of that feature. See this page.
Here's a page that collects information about how to optimize for performance.

  • [Solved] Unable to use all memory or unable to boot

I solved this issue by uninstalling the Nouveau drivers. So if you have both the NVIDIA binary drivers and nouveau installed and the computer doesn't boot past the UDev uevents line, try uninstalling the nouveau drivers.
    Hello!
I've been having some problems with my desktop PC, and was wondering if anybody knows how to fix these problems.
First, my computer refuses to boot if I have my NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS in the PCIe slot. It boots fine into Windows XP and 7.
What happens is that the computer boots all the way to "Waiting for UDev uevents to be processed", where it locks up, ignoring keyboard input.
I found that if I booted the computer with the option mem=6GB added to the kernel boot options, the computer boots properly. (Yes, I know, 6GB should be 6G)
however, this reduces my usable memory to 4GB.
    This is what dmesg says:
    Memory: 4565500k/6291456k available (3312k kernel code, 1573636k absent, 151368k reserved, 1752k data, 472k init)
If I remove the graphics card, the computer boots as normal, and shows all of my 6GB of ram.
Here is my entire dmesg output:

Also, (don't know if this is relevant) but I've got three sticks of ram: 2 2GB modules and 2 1GB modules. They are grouped together properly.

  • Yosemite slow and using all memory

Hi, Mavs was working great on my mid 2010 MB Pro 13", but after upgrading to Yosemite, it's slower than molasses in January.  It's old and has a lot of software.  Any tips to tune this baby up?
    Problem description:
mid 2010 macbook pro 13” running slowly and consuming memory with Yosemite update

Login items are easy. You can go to System Preferences > Users & Groups > your account > Login Items and click the "-" button. This won't delete anything. It only keeps the application from launching right away when you log onto your machine. Later, you can put a few of them back just as easily.
The other items will be harder. You must track down the vendor-provided uninstallers or uninstallation instructions. Maybe those "[Support]" links will help. Don't try to remove those kinds of files manually. There is no way to tell where they all might be. If you only delete some of them, you could leave your system worse off than it is.

  • Java WEB AS - Is it possible to prevent a single process using all memory?

    Hi all,
We have a SAP PI 7.0 installation and we have encountered issues with Java mappings utilizing all available memory on the Java stack and causing the server to slow and eventually crash. The original issue was caused by a poorly coded map, but as this is a large installation we want to protect ourselves against any other poor coding that may be on the system or introduced later.
Are there any configuration options within the WEB AS whereby we can either limit the amount of memory available to the execution of any one mapping, or that will enable the server to stop processing once a set limit is reached?
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    - Ian

The only thing that comes to my mind is to use several server processes for the Java instance and limit the max heap size. Once that size is reached, the thread will end with OutOfMemory error but since you have several server processes others threads can continue to work.

  • ITunes using all memory, unresponsive.

im using a windows 7 64 bit PC, 4 GB of RAM. i have never had a meory problem before until iTunes. it uses 100% CPU usage and i cannot update my Iphone. ive even ended procceses manualy to free up memory, even essential things like the desktop and icons (explorer.exe) just so i can use it but iTunes responded by using the meory i just freed and crashing. ive uninstall multiple time including in the right order. at this point i just need an alternative to update my phone.

Have you tried opening iTunes under a different Windows account on the same PC?
Without your iphone connected, of course.

That is the first step to figure out if it is a user-specific or system-wide issue.

  • Premiere freezing then using all memory

    Hello everyone,
I'm experiencing a weird problem across multiple projects. First playback will lock up in premiere, I can move the playhead through the timeline but the program does not update and there is no sound. The program monitor is stuck on the frame I was on before it locked up. After a few seconds of this I get a "Your system has run out of application memory" message. I am running on a 2013 Mac Pro with 64gb of memory, so memory should not be an issue. I opened up the activity monitor while working and noticed around 15gbs of total memory was being used while premiere was working. But the minute it locked up, suddenly the total memory usage began to shoot up until it was at 64gbs and I got the message. In the activity monitor it tells me premiere is only using 10gbs of memory, but that can't be the case as the minute I quit the application it drops back down. The lock ups are random, but usually within the first five-ten minutes of working. I need a solution to this problem fast as this is happening on multiple projects across multiple machines and the projects are due soon. Any help would be greatly appreciated... The amount of bugs I have been experiencing with premiere lately is just mind boggling, I do more troubleshooting than editing.

I'm running Premiere 8.2.0 and am on Yosemite 10.10.1. I am using Apple Pro Res 422 at 1920x1080 at 29.97fps. I am using a 2013 Mac Pro 6,1 with dual AMD FirePro D500, 12-core Intel Xeon E5 processor, and 64gbs of ram.
The project is pretty system intensive, but the fact I can work for a while with no issues with total memory usage hovering around 12gbs, but then it shoots up to 64gb randomly seems wrong.. And also I can't imagine Premiere would need 64gbs of ram??
The project involves multiple nests, keys, multi-cam, and other coloring effects (all of which are GPU accelerated). I am working off of a 12tb raid connected through thunderbolt and have my scratch/media cache set to a separate SSD connected through thunderbolt. All preview files are set to the same as the footage, prores 422. As an update, I removed adjustments layers that were used to create a vignette and the problem seems to have stopped for now. But any advice or ideas of what could be causing this and how to avoid it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Mds randomly starting and using all memory

My system slows down abruptly and when i check the Activity Monitor, it shows that mds is using about 150mb real memory and 1gb virtual memory. Could someone tell me what is going or how to limit the memory used by a process?

well, after cataloging, isnt it supposed to stay put? i can understand this happening when a new program is installed or a lot of files are added - spotlight then becomes unavailable and shows that its indexing. but what is it doing after that? this never happened before - it takes 5sec for the dock to show up when it runs, i hope you get the idea of how slow it is.

  • Lion suddenly uses all available memory

It seems to happen randomly. all of a sudden I get the beachball Activity Monitor says root kernel_task
it has 4Gig mem 2.8 core 2 duo seems like it just all of a sudden it boggs down.using all memory. then after afew minutes it goes back to normal.
    any help would be great...

IF you are using Safari my guess is that is the culpirt. Open Activity Monitor and click the System Memeory tab to see what apps are using most of  your RAM. As mentioned keep a close eye on Safari.
