Using an alternate display to view presenter information

I am having trouble getting my iBook G4 to run the presenter view. I have selected the option in the software preferences window but it still will not show the presenter view when I play the slideshow. I am beginning to think that my iBook is not capable of presenting in presenter view.

Joe,
sorry, I forget to copy the link and thus pasted a previous used link.
The iBook isn't able to run presenter mode unless you use a firmware hack. Now, this is the correct link: Brian Peat, "Keynote: Presentation mode?" #9, 08:30am Oct 28, 2005 CDT

• Can I use an alternate Display

I was wondering if I could use a hdmi cable to route my display on to my television?

I have an av adapter, that fits my ipad, for an hdmi cable and for a charger cord. For some reason, the Ipad does not allow me to change displays or to mirror the ipad screen on the television. I was wondering how to get it to mirror onto my television..

• Show View doesn't display the views present in the report.

I add a section to the dashboard page. I add a report into the section which has pivot / graph and table view. But, when i click on the reports -> properties - > show view, I don't see any of the views. Why is it so?
Please let me know.
Thanks

Hi Vinutha,
Seems you have not saved the report after viewing result in other views.
Just run them in other views and save it.. go to dashboards now and check

• Presenter Information Displayed Backwards

Currently, Keynote's only option to view "Presenter Information" is to select the "Use Alternate Display to View Presenter Information" box under Keynote's preference menu. Keynote desperately needs a feature that allows you to use the PRIMARY display to view this information. By far the most common scenario is the connection of a notebook to a projector or other monitor. Is this case, one almost always wants one's notes visible on the notebook display, which by default is the primary display, and one's sides on the alternate display; the projector or monitor the audience can see. The only way to address this currently is to make the notebook's display the alternate display, which is ridiculous, since if you then need to use the machine while it is connected (e.g. to do some last-minute emailing before your talk begins) you have to turn around and face the screen to see what you are doing. I can think of NO logical reason why you would want to see your slides on the notebook and your notes over the projector, and I hope the otherwise-thorough developers at Apple fix the oversight in a future version.

Welcome to the forums.
You can set what the "primary" and "secondary" display is by arranging them in the Displays preferences of OS X. (When you are in Keynote's Slideshow Preferences pane, the button "Open Display Preferences..." will open this pane.)

• Alternate display and mp4 files

Hi,
I regularly use my MacBook (OS X Leopard) in a large lecture hall with a ceiling-mounted projector. The presentations have often been prepared on my iMac G5 with Tiger, but that's no problem. I use "alternate display to view presenter information." Last week, I inserted some mp4 files into some empty slides in my sequence...it worked brilliantly at home (the files started up automatically, played, and then finished, at which point I just hit my right arrow key, which took me to my next text slide). When I went to class and hooked up the MacBook to the projector, everything was fine until I hit the key to advance to a slide with an embedded mp4. The Keynote window was immediately gone and I was left with a view of my desktop...nothing happened. Interestingly enough, Keynote had not quit. Its icon had a miniature green "play" button on it (as you would expect on a CD player, etc.). The only way for me to salvage the presentation -- as class was about to start -- was to run the presentation with display mirroring. I lost the opportunity to have my presenter notes, but advancing to and past the slides with mp4 video clips was no problem at all.
Does anyone know what happened here and how I might go about troubleshooting? Did I do something that the projector could not handle? Are there resolution settings for both displays that I should pay attention to here? As previously mentioned, I've never had a problem with alternate display and presenter notes in this hall or with any other projector on campus; that's why I assume that the mp4s were part of the problem.
Much obliged for any help whatsoever,
Hank

Check Keynote Preferences > General and be sure the box "Copy audio and movies into document" is checked. Other than that, I have no suggestions.
Good luck.

• Use Backup (Alternate) List View for Favorites/Wishlist

Can anyone tell me, is it possible to use the alternate/backup list view item from a web app for the favorites/wishlist? Right now, when some ads a webapp item (from within the detail view) to favorites, I'm getting the regular list view layout when I use {module_favorites,a,0,0} on the user account page.
Thanks!
Brian

Couldn't find a way to use an alternate view so I reworked things with CSS.

• Hyperlink not working in presentation mode when using alternate display

Made hyperlinks to jump from slide x to slide y
That worked fine when testing in presentation mode
When the same file is played using a beamer as alternate display the hyperlinks are not recognised: clicking will start the next build of the presentation

Is there anybody who successfully used a hyperlink to jump from slide A to slide Y? (and when using the beamer as an alternate display, using the macbook pro screen for the presentation notes)
If so, I can try to find out what I do wrong, otherwise it might be a bug in Keynote'08
thanks for your attention in this matter!!

• Using the computer in a second display while a presentation is going

I am not sure how to phrase this in a forum search. I have two displays. I'd like to view a presentation on one display while being able to work on other things in the other. But when I play the presentation, one monitor goes black while the other one presents the show. Is there a way to be able to use the monitor that goes blank to do other stuff?
I'm using keynote to display a referencing program I made in Keynote when I check drafting, but I'd like to be able to do additional research in the other display without disturbing the keynote presentation.
Any suggestions would be a lot of help.
Thanks!

I have not found any solution. Keynote naturally assumes the secondary display is for presentation notes for the presentor. As it is, Keynote is pretty useful, but just think what it could be with just a few more features like this! I bet that eventually this feature makes it into the application. Give Apple another 15 years and I'm sure we'll see it.

XML page cannot be displayed cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet Please correct the error and then click the REfresh

Is the error message displayed in Firefox or in IE, or in a customized window that doesn't identify the browser?
''If it displays in Firefox:''
It's possible that the Troubleshooter doesn't work correctly unless IE is your default browser. You could test that possibility by having IE make itself the default and testing the Troubleshooter again.
''If it displays in IE or embedded in another Microsoft application:''
In a web search I found these suggestions:
(1) Reset your Internet Explorer settings, according to http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie8-windows_7/cannot-view-xml-using-xsl-style-sheet/ccfe80c6-c0db-4594-a7e3-475f9eac0e85
(2) Try the System File Checker, according to http://ask-leo.com/why_do_i_get_the_xml_page_cannot_be_displayed_after_running_a_microsoft_troubleshooter.html
Any luck?

Your PL/SQL code doesn't produce a valid XML document.
In the XML grammar, "&" is a special character and must be escaped using the character entity "&".
If you were using standard methods to build XML from Oracle (SQL/XML functions for instance), I'm sure you wouldn't have this error.
Please show us the PL/SQL code you're using to produce this XML output and we'll be able to help you further.

I tried uninstall and install both Firefox and Developer ad-on but it did not solve the problem.

Firefox also have build-in web developer tools, so there is less need for extensions.

• Bug? Error when using Alternate Display for a preso with Build transitions.

I was working on a preso and Alternate Display worked fine for a while when I'd play the presentation. Then I added some Build transitions and when I tried to play the presentation, I started getting this error:
*Keynote cannot play your slideshow because an error occurred.*
I restarted Keynote and created a new presentation. Alternate Display worked fine when I just had a couple of plain test slides. Then I added a Build to a set of bullet points and started getting the error again.
Is this a known bug? Any way to fix it? Is it caused by something else?
System Version: Mac OS X 10.6.4 (10F569)
Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M

Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 3 MB

Certainly not a known KN bug, but might be an expression of the NVIDIA problem referred to here: <http://www.macrumors.com/2010/09/29/nvidia-class-action-settlement-for-macbook -pro-owners/>. Given your expertise and your hardware, that'd be my first guess. Barring that, you have to line up the usual suspects: corrupt pref file, corrupted app, etc. Have you been having any other problems/strange behavior either with KN, with other apps, or with your Mac generally? What, if any, software maintenance/repair have you tried/do you do routinely?

The user guide says:
Movies viewed in Videos and YouTube appear only in landscape orientation. Street views in Maps
also appear only in landscape orientation.
Do you have the scree orientation lock turned on? If on there is a circular arrow icon with a padlock inside next to the battery charge icon in the upper right.

• Re: [iPlanet-JATO] Re: using begin childName Display method

Steve,
It sounds like you have your display fields in a container view, and
that container view is inside of a view bean. I haven't tested whether
the fireChildDisplayEvents has a "deep" effect on its container view
children. Meaning that you may have to set fireChildDisplayEvents="true"
for the <jato:containerView> tag instead. If all else fails and you need
to just get it working, you can set the fireDisplayEvents="true" for
each display field tag separately.

I should clarify my earlier statement. The data I want to display is
coming from a model (tied in in the createChild method). I want to
conditionally reformat the text that is being substituted in the JSP
for a JATO form element, but I want this to happen on the server, not
with JavaScript. The begin<childName>Display and
end<childName>Display methods allow me to do this, in theory, but I
can not get them to execute.

haven't quite got this figured out.

Subject: [iPlanet-JATO] using begin<childName>Display method
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
I want to be able to conditionally show/hide data as well as
format
it for display without touching the model. I found the
begin<childName>Display and end<childName>Display methods that
provide the hooks to do this, but I have been unsuccessful in
getting
these method to execute. I added the
fireChildDisplayEvents="true"
attribute to the jato:useViewBean tag, but this has not helped.
I
also added some debug to the ContainerViewBase class in the
public
boolean beginChildDisplay(ChildDisplayEvent event) method to see
what
was happening. The displayMethodMap was returning null for the
child
display methods that were in the view bean. I covered all the
bases
(compiling, redeploying, etc.) and nothing has worked. Is there
anything I am missing or is there some working example of this?

The hidden field was present in the page, but it looked like this:
<input type="hidden" name="jato.defaultCommand" value=""../search"">
Seems like there is a small bug in the code generating this tag.
FYI - I am using JATO1.2
What file displays this text? Maybe I can go in and fix it and rejar
it.

To answer your question - it should work as you described. Some of the JatoSample make use of the defaultCommandChild. Can you try
running the sample BasicSample->Field Types and let us know what you
see.

Failing this you can send me your jsp file , maybe there is some subtle issue there. michael.frisino@s...

Subject: [iPlanet-JATO] Using the defaultCommandChild in a form
I am trying to set the defaultCommandChild in my jato:form tag to be
the searcg button. The search button definition is:
<jato:button name="search"/>.
The form tag definition is:
<jato:form name="PendingIA" defaultCommandChild="/search">
Clicking on the search button works fine, but hitting return in one
of the textFields (which submits the form) passes a value of "" to
the createChild method in my viewBean, which throws an error. Why
does this not just work as normal and trigger the handleSearchRequest
() method?
