Using an Analogue mixing desk with garageband?

Hi guys,
As you can tell i'm really not a techie!
I'm looking to use a mixing desk with garageband, it's analogue and i have the new macbook pro retina, but I don't know how i could connect it to my mac. I need it for recording demos, but firstly will it be compatible? I dont wanna have to spend £90 on a pricey iRig when i already have a perfectly good Roland vs1680 sat here. Also, would I be able to use it to convert my guitar sound and output MIDI synthesised sounds from my mac to my Line 6 Amplifier?
Any help is appreciated,
Blake

unfortunately I do not have a second mac (g5 or otherwise as I sold it when I bought new one lol) to try this method. I did notice m-audio had updated there drivers for osx 10.4 but unfortunately these drivers only work for g5/g4/g3 mac and not for the intel mac keyboards so at the moment I do not have a workaround for this problem. I have emailed m-audio and asked for a timeframe for drivers but have not received a response yet so at the moment I am unaware of any usb midi keyboard that works natively for a intel mac which is rather tragic lol as garageband is basically unuseable without a method of inputting midi but hopefully someone will prove me wrong and suggest a solution. On another issue my usb keyboard and mouse had the freezing problem that seems quite common but after a lengthy phonecall to apple I asked for a replacement wireless bluetooth keyboard and mouse which I have received and can report works absolutely perfectly so there may have been a bad batch of usb keyboard/mouse combinations made. Otherwise everything is working perfectly and I am delighted with the new imac

  • Using Band-in-a-Box with GarageBand

Does anyone out there use Band-in-a-Box with GarageBand?
If so, I would have several questions. BinB is a great program ... particularly for setting up chord progressions. And, completely compatible with G/B.
    Used it many times w G/B 2. But running into a few difficulties w G/B '09 (or, 5), whatever.
    Thanks.

What's the difficulties? Creating a midi file in BiaB and dropping it into GB should work fine!

  • Using Liquid Mix 16 with garageband

Have been successful getting my audio interface, Alesis iO/14 Firewire, to work with garageband. Just bought the new Focusrite Liquid Mix16 for compression and EQ and have installed it, BUT can't see it in garageband. My understanding is that is should show up in the second part of the "details" section under effects. Not there. And for some reason, plug-ins say there was an error during installation, try again. repeatedly. I have plugged the Alesis Firewire into the one firewire port on my Mini, and the Liquid Mix 16 firewire into the Alesis (daisy-chained). Am really wanting to try out this Liquid Mix. Any ideas out there?????

I was testing it for a few days and it worked REALLY well for me. Considering I do have mLan Audio/Midi network which uses firewire I was expecteing only crashes but than was quite impressed-no crash at all! I made myself a few quick comparsions of Avalon vt747 comp/EQ and some Focusrite stuff I own and it´s LiquidMix emulations and -ofcourse - the emulations weren´t exactly the same , in case of vt747sp EQ low shelf the difference was actually "hearable" and I liked the sound comming from hardware much more - but still I´d buy it - it does things pretty damned good - and I never expect plugins to be EXACTLY what hardware is. I am only waiting for apple to sort their OS firewire driver (as my mLan devices audio streaming rely on this driver which is buggy now), and after that I´d probably buy it.
I did not hear Duende yet but it is totally different animal-as it is not emulation of Analogue stuff but as far as I know it uses the algorythms from some SSL digital console. Liquid mix emulates mostly analog devices , though I remember it probably does have some Weiss digital stuff too (not sure - and don´t say to Bob Katz that you have "liquid Weiss" :)))
So I think: for the money the LiquidMix is GREAT value COMPARED to plugin bundles that are using native CPU. Do not expect that you´ll get exact sound of a Fairchild, Neve etc. BUT you´ll get very good starting points for tweaking. And you can tweak A LOT with this toy. Specially when it has real knobs

  • Is there any way to use the Korg Kaossilator Pro with Garageband 6.0.5?

I'm getting pretty decent at working around with the newest version of Garageband. I've gotten my Akai MPK Mini (usb/midi keyboard) to work by adjusting a few preferences here and there, but for the last week I have been trying and trying to get my Korg Kaossilator Pro to hook up MIDI with Garageband. I understand if the program/software isn't as advanced as Logic or Ableton (be getting those soon!) If anybody could help me it would be MUCH appreciated
P.S. if anybody is having troubles with exporting the AIFF/WAV/MP3 audio files I could give you a bit of help. I have figured out how to correctly export the audio loops and sounds that I have made from my Kaossilator Pro into Garageband! It is quite simple actually and is ALOT easier than you would think. Following the tempo/pitch for your song w/ these WAV/AIFF files is really easy too! I have made almost 4 songs now just using samples and loops from my Kaossilator Pro. I just would like to know if anybody has found out how to use it MIDI w/ Garageband? It would REALLY help me out Thanks!

yeeeeah thats what i've been figuring out for the last 12 hours haha. kinda've a pain but hey it works out. u can still throw some pretty cool effects and what not. Even with MIDI cables running from my kaoss pro into my mac doesn't work. i can transfer the loops I make on my kaoss pro to the editor on my comp, then transfer those files to GB then go from there. It ***** there isn't a way to hook it in and sync it w/ GB so you can hit record then start jamming on the kaoss pro. Thanks for the response though!

  • Problems using M Audio Fast Track with Garageband

According to the blurb, the M Audio Fast Track (USB) 'is class compliant in Mac OSX offering true plug-and-play operation. Just plug in, and you're ready to start recording'. This is why I bought it, but I am experiencing no end of problems actually getting it to register with Garageband '08.
The problems are (a) I cannot hear any sound coming 'through' the Fast Track and Garageband (b) I can hear the guitar if I plug the headphones into the Fast Track, but nothing is recorded in Garageband (c) my mic, which is plugged into the line socket intended for guitars because I don't have the larger connection, reports no sound at all.
Any ideas, or tips to how others have managed to set up this 'plug-and-play' device would be greatly welcomed.

Did you ever get this to work? I just today bought a Fast Track Pro. I have it hooked to my MBP via USB. I can see in control Panel two inputs:
M-Audio Fast Track Pro UDB: Line Input
M-Audio Fast Track Pro UDB: S/PDIF
Problem is, there is no sound registering on the Input Level on either choose.
I have the Power On and have tried both Input 1 & 2, bith in stereo and mono mode.
(Just to be clear, I connect the electric guitar directly to the Fast track pro, correct?)
I have read the owners manual but it is worthless. I thought this would be easy to set up.
Also note that GarageBand preferences the Audio Output and Input are selected to Fast Track Pro.
    What am I doing wrong?

  • Can I use my old Ensoniq ASR10 with GarageBand?

    Hello:
My trusty M-Audio Keystation 49e has given up the ghost (the keys don't send MIDI signals anymore). I've tried hitting it with a hammer but, alas, to no avail.
I have made sacrifices at the altar of MIDI Monitor, etc, but the gods will not be appeased,
    Oh well.
Anyway, I dusted off my ancient Ensoniq ASR10 (it performed miracles back in the day) and am now wondering if I could use this as a MIDI controller in GarageBand. By this I mean can I use it to replace the M-Audio Keystation and play the various instruments, etc. in Garageband? Buying an M-Audio MIDI to USB adapter is a lot cheaper than buying a new M-Audio Keystation (or a even a used one). But I want to be assured it will work first before I spend the dosh.
The Ensoniq ASR10 has a standard MIDI In, Out and Thru.
    So please, anyone, any thoughts?
    Thanks

MIDI is MIDI, regardless of what device sends it. as long as the interface you buy is compatible with your OS version, it'll work, if the keyboard works.

  • I am using a tascam-144 interface with garageband. How do I remap SD7k kit?

Hopefully someone can help me on here.
Garageband is picking up my TASCAM 144 midi interface when using my sd7k drum kit, however, all of the pads are not registering in the program. I will hit the hi-hat and crash, which play fine, but the snare, kick drum and other toms are not registering in garage band. I have researched online and found a procedure called re-mapping each individual pad so that it plays each snare, kick drum, crash, hi hat, etc. Does anybody know an easy way to do this through the program?
    Thanks in advance,
    Shari

  • Using a 4 track recorde with Garageband

I am new to this so forgive me if this sounds stupid.
I have a Yamaha, Mini-disc 4-track recorder. It has MIDI in/out and I have a MIDIsport 1x1 MIDI to USB cable. Is there anyway to send the MIDI signal to garage band or what should I do. I am doing vocal recording only and would like to use My MD 4-tr. recorder. Can these two be used together or is my attempt futile. Thanks

MIDI is not audio, so no.
If your Mac has a Line In, you could use a Line-Out from the 1/4 track recorder which will let you record a stereo track at a time in GarageBand.

  • Using an external usb keyboard with garageband

Hi there, Recieved my 20' imac today and am delighted with it overall had no problems and all programs run smoothy. I installed my garageband jam packs (I have four which I bought from apple) and then plugged in my m-audio radium 49 (also purchased from apple) keyboard and was looking forward to giving garageband a good workout. Unfortunately my intel mac doesnt seem to recognise keyboard at all and will not work. As I have spent many hundreds of pounds on garageband extras does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this standard apple recommended keyboard (its still on sale on site with no mention of incompatibility with intel imac) to work.
Have tested keyboard on a g4 setup and it worked straight away in garageband any help would be most appreciated thanks

  • Using my digital drum set with GarageBand

I have a Session pro dd506 digital drum set. I've connected it to my mac via a usb cable. If I hit my digital drum pads then my mac sounds a note as you would expect. but the problem is that for example my snare will be the floor tom and my first tom will be the crash symbol (they're all mixed up). Is there a way to assign different sounds to each pad?
    Thanks

if your kit doesn't allow you to reassign the control codes, take a look at MIDIPipe which is supposed to do that (among the other things it does)
@ HangTime... are you saying it is possible to use a 3rd party app to reassign keys/pads etc from a MIDI controller to GB midi instruments??
I would love to get something like the Alesis Control Pad and assign GB's drum kits logically to the pads. Right now I have an M-Audio Axiom 49 which has 8 finger pads and it would be good to even make this make sense.

  • How to use old "Apple Loops for Soundtrack" with Garageband

Since Soundtrack (was part of FinalCut Express HD) doesn't work anymore (since some ProKit framework update) and was not part of the FinalCut Express 4 upgrade I used Garageband for sound creation and editing. But I missed some good loops from the old Soundtrack.
The Apple Loops for Soundtrack were still sitting on my harddisk but Garageband didn't recognize them in the Loop-Browser. Looking at the structure I found the Search Index files (/Library/Audio/Apple Loop Index/). I have two there, one for Garageband and another for iLife Sound Effects. Both are interpreted by Garageband. But no third for the old Soundtrack Loops. So I had a look at the Sound Loops installer DVD from FinalCut HD and there I found a similar structur and copied the Index file to the location of the two indexes mentioned above. I left the Loops for Soundtrack where they are (also could edit the index file for new locations, but that's a 7.5MB text file) and now Garageband knows their location and also lists the loops at the right categories inside the Loop-Browser.
Maybe that helps someone, even if I didn't find a topic about it here.

Ah.. ok, then never mind. Just didn't find any information about how to use the old soundtrack loops with garageband and so I did some thinking on my own. And if it works that easy, the better it is

  • Using a digi003 mixer with logic

i just purchase logic the other day and i cant figure out how to use my digi003 mixing board with it. does logic even support the digi003? the guy at sam ash told me that it did.

Ok - select an audio track in Logic. In it's channel strip, in the Input box, select the first input that Logic says your system sees.
Click on either the red record enable button, or the yellow input monitor button. Play your source through the mixer - do you get levels in Logic? If not, repeat for whatever other inputs are available in the input menu.
If none of those pass signal, then you need to look at the routing setup on the Alesis mixer to make sure you are routing signals correctly. Unfortunately I don't know that particular device, but check it's manual for how to route channels to the computer.

  • Im using Duet2 Interface with Garageband 09 when I connect my acoustic guitar to the combi jack I get a buzzing/humming sound how can I eliminate this?

I'm using Duet 2 Audio Interface with Garageband 09, when I connect my acoustic guitar to the combi jack I get a buzzing/humming sound.  How can I eliminate this?

do you have any thing plugged into wall power? Audio interface, computer, speakers, amp for the guitar? if so are they all plugged into the same power strip? if so, have you tried another outlet?
Altertively have you tried a diffrent port on the combo jack? Have you tried a diffrent guitar cable? Have you tried a diffrent guitar or audio input device like a mic? Is the device directly plugged into the combo jack, or is it being routed throughs some thing?
