Using an Apple 23" HD Cinema Display with a Windows PC

Hi there!
First off, apologies for what is very likely to be a duplicate thread. I have been trying to find some answers to my questions and have not succeeded thus far.
I have a 23" HD ACD that works fine with my mac mini, however I have just purchased a PC box, which I intend to use the display with also. The PC has a PNY Technologies Vecta nVidia 6800 GT (256Mb) in it, with single-link DVI out.
Upon setting up the machine to install Windows, the display remains blank. Reading up on the interweb seems to indicate that the display in incapable of showing the boot information on startup. I have used a vga display to install the OS, but I haven't had a chance to test the Apple display yet to see if it makes it into Windows and shows anything.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem, and is there a satisfactory solution?

Thanks Karl, I had already found that link. Unfortunately, and unlike all of the posters on that forum, my display doesn't appear to show anything at all, even after booting into Windows XP. There is a possibility that this all needs to be set up before attaching the ACD, but I do not have another display I can use to install the latest drivers. My video card seems to meet all of the requirements necessary for running the display, but all I get is that interesting black-on-black colour scheme.
The display really is a stunning piece of engineering, but I have to say that I am very disappointed with my purchase. I may have to sell the display so that I may have a useable display device that works across both platforms.
Hmpf. Dell, here I come...

Apple LED 24" Cinema Display audio problem under 10.6.8 (with post fix)

Hi all,
I'm using an Apple LED 24" Cinema Display with a 2010 MBP 15" and had been using 10.6.8 without problem. After installing the post-fix I now get static noice on (clipping?) when music contains lots of base. If I switch the output to my MBP's built-in speakers then the audio is fine.
Is there any way to un-install the 10.6.8 post-fix?

Solved the issue. This issue coming up after installing the 10.6.8 supplemental update was just a considence. I ended up tracing the issue back to my Atlona AT-MDP21 Mini-DisplayPort KVM switch and after fiddling with cables the issue went away.

Can I use a 30" Apple Cinema display with a new 27" iMac?

I have a brand new iMac(27-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), i7 3.5 GHz, 32MB RAM, 4GB NVIDIA. I will soon be upgrading it to Mavericks, if that makes a difference. My understanding is that the resolution on it is 2560 x 1440.
I'm looking at buying a used 30" Apple Cinema display. I'd like to use it with my new iMac. The only advantage for me would be that the 30" screen is larger and things on it easier to see (or so I'm guessing).
I need to know if the 30" Cinema display would work with my new iMac, and if it would, as I'm guessing, give me a larger, easier-to-see screen.
I currently have my new iMac connected to my old mid-2010 iMac as a target display (that old iMac has a minidisplay port--no Thunderbolt), and that works great. I just want a larger screen.
I called Apple support, and the tech rep wasn't sure it would work. He seemed to think that the 30" Cinema displays were made with different connections. Some had minidisplay ports (which he thought would work), and some a cord built into them that provided some other type of connection (that I guess would not work as far as he knew).
Can anyone tell me if this would work? Would my new iMac and its video card support the 30" Cinema display? Would the result be as sharp and good-looking as my iMac's built-in 27" display, but only bigger (which is what I'm hoping for)? Any advice is appreciated.

Yes, you should be able use the 30" Cinema Display with your new iMac without problems. You'll need a mini-DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter:

I haven't had the 30" myself to test so I don't know if there any caveats. Perhaps someone else here will have personal experience.

Your 2014 MacBook Pro should have 2 Thunderbolt ports and 1 HDMI port. We need to find out what plug your Cinema Display has.
Does the Plug look like this:

Acrylic 20" Cinema Display with new MacPro

As I read the posts here, to use the old cinema display with an ADC connector I will need to buy Apple DVI to ADC adapter to connect my 20" cinema display with ADC to the new MacPro?
This new DVI to ADC adapter provides power for the cinema display as I understand which is why it's so expensive whereas when cinema display was connected to my Powermac G5 the power came thru the ADC connection?

Installation of 27" cinema display with macbook pro silver key and bootcamp

For everyone out there who may be interested in using the new 27" cinema display with an older Macbook Pro Intel with silver keys and bootcamp.
What is needed:
1. Apple 27" cinema display.
2. Macbook pro Intel silver key model
3. Altona Dual Link DVI to Mini DisplayPort Converter (Model AT-DP400)
4. Bootcamp 3.1 drivers from Mac OSX Snow Leopard V10.6.3(retail)
Procedure:
1. Update your display software on the Mac OS side. Apple has posted an update on their software downloads page, "LED Cinema Display Software Update 1.0" After doing so, make sure that the 27" CinDisp is operating correctly and you can change the brightness from the system settings.
2. On the Windows side, install the bootcamp 3.1 drivers. These are on the Snow Leopard distribution CD. However, there is a bug in the .msi installer that causes the installation to go into an endless loop. This must be resolved during the installation of the drivers. 3. After you have successfully installed the bootcamp 3.1 drivers, then install Apple's bootcamp update: "Apple Magic Trackpad and 27-inch LED Cinema Display Update for Windows 32 bit".

I have the same MBP and recently bought a 23" cinema display on Craigslist for $140. It works great. I had a display port to DVI adapter and it worked fine. Built a stand to hold the laptop vertically so it's out of the way. Don't know about older displays but anything with DVI should work fine.
The screen size and resolution are great for photo editing. I now have the best of both worlds, a display that rivals my wife's iMac and portability.

Apple TV and Cinema Display 23"

Hi,
I was trying to connect Apple TV to Cinema Display 23" with no sucess. I am using HDMI -> DVI converter and DVI Gender Changer (Since Cinema Display comes with male DVI calble).
With same converter without any problems I have received picture on "no name LCD 17" monitor.
Cinema Display first showed the Apple and then nothing. Three short flashes on power led (which means "out of sync" or something).

HDMI is able to protect against copying of material from one device to another. It uses HDCP to check if the device receiving the content is capable of recording it, unless it is assured that a copy of the content on the first device can't be made on the second, it won't let the content be transmitted. Although the display cannot copy the content, I wonder if it is able to tell the tv, having a DVI and not an HDMI connector.

I have a quick question. I work on computers fr friends and family as a hobby. I have an ADC monitor and need ot be able to hook up computers with a VGA port on them to it. Can I use the Apple ADC to DVI adapter along with an Apple DVI to VGA adapter to successfully connect VGA computers to my ADC display? I was assuming this would work and ordered both adapters but now I have made myself nervous about weather or not this will actually work. Has anybody out there successfully done this? Thanks for your help in advance everybody.

You can't run an ADC display with a VGA computer without a converter. Adapters won't do it.

Your title says "Can I use the Apple ADC to DVI adapter with a VGA monitor?". If you want to connect a VGA monitor to a computer's ADC port you need the ADC to VGA adapter

Sharing Cinema display with a PC

Is there a way to share (via a swith box) my 20" cinema display with a PC. I know that there are DVI switchers but do they support the fact that the MAC display is powered through the connector interface aand that the firewire and usb is on the same connector as well???

The DVI connector does not carry the power to the display. The cable from the display carries the power, USB, FireWire, and digital signals. At the computer end it is split into separate cables with plugs for USB, FireWire, power and DVI.. The switch would go between this DVI plug and the DVI connector on the computer's video card. The power would not go though the switch. The fancier switches will also have sockets to switch the UBS as well, so a keyboard and mouse plugged into the display will switch to the computer using it. This will also allow computer control of the display brightness.

Extension cable for Apple 24" LED Cinema Display

Purchased the newly refreshed Mac Pro (Intel Xeon “Nehalem” processor) and an Apple 24" LED Cinema Display. (The new graphics cards support the mini displayport.) They work well together and I am happy with the results.
There is a snag. The cable on the monitor is too short to reach my computer, which needs to go under the desk. The cable on the display is hard wired. I would prefer not to drill a new hole in the desk if I can avoid it.
The obvious solution would be an extender cable. I find a number of cables that support the displayport standard, but all are M to M. In fact, Belkin notes that their cables are NOT for Apple's mini displayport. The Apple store has nothing on its site, call to the Apple store yielded no solution, and I live four hours from the nearest Apple store. Apple after moving to standard solutions appears to have gone back to a proprietary one again.
I cannot be the only one having this problem. Anybody found a way to extend this cable?

It is around two feet long. I would not have a problem with this if I could extend it or Apple had adopted the standard cable with female connector on the display so I could purchase a longer cable. Apple has a long history of slipping into proprietary solutions that are often good (e.g., magsafe on MacBook) but tend to cramp ones ability to come up with solutions they have not thought of.
There are a growing number of m-m cables that would work from various vendors like Belkin, but I have found no extenders from Apple or any other vendor.
As to the monitor itself, I LOVE it. I am sure there will be a solution eventually. I have the new Mac Pro and monitor on the kitchen counter. Not sure how long my wife's patience will last.

I have no proof, but I think it will not work with an adapter, only Mini Display Port or Thunderbolt.
