Using an existing email address in iCloud

Hi everyone,
I am wondering how I use an existing iCloud.com email address for mail on the iCloud.  Here is what I did:
I bought a new Mac.  I signed in to iCloud with my apple ID and turned on the mail feature.  I created a new email address.
Then, I signed out of the iCloud.  Stupid.
When I logged back in to the iCloud, the mail was no longer synced.  I checked the box, and then it asked me to create a new email address again. Obviously, I do not want to create a new email address.  I would like to use the account that I just created.
So, is there any way that I can use the account I created?  Or will I have to create a new one.
Thanks,
Katie

While we all have MacBooks in this forum most fo us don’t use iCloud. There's an iCloud Support Community where everybody uses iCloud. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer. https://discussions.apple.com/community/icloud/icloud_on_my_mac

iCloud mail handles only its own emails - you can't collect mail from other accounts as you could with MobileMe - so all you can do is set up forwarding from other accounts to iCloud. However you can only use the iCloud address as the 'From' address when using its outgoing server, so when you are using your Mac or iPhone you are better off setting up other accounts separately in the Mail app. Only when using iCloud webmail will this then be an issue.

No, you cannot use your own email address with iCloud. However you can use your own email address as a separate account by entering the account details in the mail application.

Can I use my current email address with iCloud vs having to sign up for .me?

iCloud email only works with @me.com addresses: it can't access any other email address at all.

  • Using my existing email addresses with BT Infinity...

    Hi
I have 3 different email addresses that I would like to use with with BT infinity.  My current ISP allows me to use their outgoing SMTP server to send mail from these addresses without any 555 or 553 relay errors, nor do they put a signature or 'sent on behalf of' message on my outgoing emails.  Will I be able to do this with BT Infinity?
Secondly, I travel with a laptop and I'm often connected to hot spots and other people's/companies broadband connection while sending email. To avoid reconfiguring my smtp server depending on who I'm connected to I use a paid for authenticated SMTP service (authsmtp.com). This means I can have a single SMTP setup (mail.authsmtp.com) and send email without problems.  Will BT allow me to connect to mail.authsmtp.com when I'm at home and connected to infinity?
    Thanks

Its an e-mail issue, not a problem with your actual physical Infinity connection, which you do not have at the moment.

  • Can i migrate an existing (hosted) email account to iCloud and continue to use the same email address?

Can I migrate an existing (hosted) email account to iCloud and continue to use the same email address?

No. Although you could migrate your mail to iCloud via IMAP, iCloud does not support sending emails from your own domain - only iCloud's own @me.com and @mac.com addresses can be used.

I just got an iphone recently and I started my apple id using my gmail email address. I decided to change email from gmail to icloud so I setup an icloud email account and now I have two apple id accounts.  All my primary information is in the gmail apple id account and i just want to merge the two together.  I've tried changing the apple id on the main account to the icloud email, but it says it already exists.  How can I merge these two accounts without deleting one or the other?
    Thanks

    You can't merge iCloud accounts.
You could move all your calendars contacts etc over from the account you don't want to the one you do, it's not simple but about all I can suggest.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID, verify the changes, enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone".
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, verify it once again, delete the iCloud account from your device and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

  • HT2731 can I set up a second email address on iCloud using the same apple id

can I set up a 2nd email address on iCloud using the same apple I'd for a 4s iPhone?

You can create up to 3 alias @icloud.com email addresses for that purpose.  They will all receive email in your existing iCloud inbox and they can be deactivated or deleted if they attract too much spam.  This article explains how to create an alias address: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622.

  • I accidentally created an iCloud account using the wrong email address for my username - I already have an iCloud account with a different email address username. Is there any way I can merge these accounts?

I just upgraded my MacBook from OS X 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion so that I could stream from my other devices (iPhone and iPad) to my MacBook.  After making it through the upgrade process, I realized that I used the wrong email address for my iCloud username when starting up on the MacBook.  My iPhone, iPad, and iTunes are under my Hotmail email address and I accidently used my Gmail email address for the MacBook.  Is there any way I can merge these two icloud accounts together? I tried changing my account information to add the other email address, but wasn't allowed because another account was using the name (duh).  If I can't merge them, how could I change the MacBook from the Gmail address to the Hotmail address so that all my devices are on the same icloud account?  It'd be nice if I could keep the free 5GB of storage that comes with my purchase of the software, but I'd rather lose the storage than not be able to stream.

To change accounts on your Mac, go to System Preferences, sign out of the current account, then sign into the new account.  When you sign out of the current account it will delete synced data from your Mac.  Assuming your data (such as contacts, calendars, etc.) is in the other iCloud account, it will be synced to your Mac when you sign into this account.

  • HT204053 can I use more than one email address on icloud (using iphone and mac)?

I have an email account which seems to be using icloud, and I want to add another email account so that I can access it via icloud.  Is it possible to have more than one email address on icloud?  I have an iphone 5 and a macbook.

You can only have one email account for each iCloud account.  You can create up to three alias addresses, but these will still receive email in the current account inbox.  This explains how to create an alias if you want to do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622.
You can create a second ("secondary") iCloud account on your device by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud and entering a different iCloud ID.  This will give you second iCloud email account but it will only be fetch email (not push).  Also, you can only create a maximum of three iCloud accounts on each device so this would use one of your allotted accounts.

  • HT204053 I have set up a new Icloud ID  using a new email address on my I mac however my Iphone Icloud ID is still using an old email address that is no longer in use.  How do I change my ICloud ID on my Iphone to that on my  IMac computer. I only want 1

How do I change  my  Icloud ID on my Iphone to match my ICloud ID on my IMac computer? My phone has an old email address that is no longer in use.  I have a new email address that I have used as my ICloud ID ( Apple ID )  on my IMac.  I want to be able to send photos from my Imac  to my Icloud account  and see view them with my Iphone.  Can you help me ?? Thanks

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.
When you do this, you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this happens, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

You will need to visit appleid.apple.com to manage your Apple ID. From there, you can log in with your existing credentials and then change your registered email addresses.
This is also where you can update your physical address, phone number, security questions, etc.
    Hope this helps!

I changed my Apple ID that using an invalid email address and I am trying to update iCloud account with my new Apple ID on iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1.2. I am not able to delete iCloud account without the old password. Is there a way to update the Apple ID of my iCloud account?

Many people are having probalems with this right now.  The only solution I've seen that seems to consistently work is the one posted by Brackers28 here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23020591#23020591.  This only works if you still have access to your old email account.  If you don't, you'll have to have Apple help you reset the password for your old account so you can turn off Find My iPhone and sign into your account with your correct ID.
