Using an external reverb in Logic with I/O plugin

Hello,
this is my situation:
I have a Lexicon MPX500. My sound card is an Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96, which happens to have a SPDIF in and out. I believe the Aardvark is similar to the MBox, since it has a software mixer which allows you to mute and solo tracks and what not. I've connected a SPDIF cable from the in on the sound card to the out on the Lexicon (it has SPDIF in/out), and a SPDIF cable from the in on the Lexicon to the out on the sound card.
Now...in Logic...(I'm using ASIO) I have a few drum tracks that I want to send through the Lexicon back into Logic. I want to use the buss method since I only want a certain amount of reverb applied to each track. So on buss 1 I add the I/O helper plugin. I'm given the options of "Input 1-2" and "Output 1-2", so I choose these ones. I send the drum tracks to buss 1, and I hear no reverb. There is no audio being sent to the Lexicon through SPDIF. I have no idea why? I feel like I'm doing everything right. The Lexicon is all plugged in, the SPDIF cables are in the right connections, the I/O plugin is enabled...?????? Is there something I'm missing? I really want to use the buss method since I want the whole song to share the same reverb.

S/PDIF is probably not output 1-2 and if you don't see it I suspect it's not the intended use for them, at least on either the card or the Lexicon. I recommend you use analog outs out of your card into in/outs of your Lexicon. I bet your card sends audio out only via analog. The other possibility is to look for a setting in your card which defines the outputs and change those to S/PDIF instead of analog. I know on the MOTU I had there, but could never get it to work right.
You really wouldn't lose anything going out analog and back analog, you're only going to add a little analog quality to the verb, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Also using Bus only for what you want to do is not going to work, you need to also have an Aux channel because on bounce, if I recall correctly, the bus will send the signal but there is something weird about the bus and bouncing to external I/O and I think you have to bring the signal back into an aux channel and mix the verb with that. Also you need to bounce in realtime not offline.

Some external ones do not work with the Mac's although most do. There are some driver compadibility issues with Mavericks, so I would wait for an update.

Maybe.
I've had some situations where a non-Apple DVD drive would not do a particular job. When I tried the same project with the Apple SuperDrive everything worked perfectly.

Would it result in something like that in this case:

or am i forced to have a single TM disk for each mac ?

The partition idea is not that bad, but as i am not using TM to do a full-backup, nor do i run it daily the disk-usage is not that important for me.
Till now i have done about 15 backups on my mac pro and the data is < 30 gb
(based on the excludes)
basicly i want to use TM only for the case that i need to reinstall Leopard (cause of a broken hd or similar) as i assume that i can use the TM-data in this case.
the idea to setup TM for restoring deleted files is nice, but i dont really see a reason in my case

Using an external optical DVD drive with A665-S6050

I recently purchased a refurbished Satellite A665-S6050; everything about it is nice and working fine. The one and only problem I'm having is trying to transfer (burn) images from a memory card reader directly to an external DVD drive, without having to first transfer images to a new folder on the desktop. Sending the image file directly to the internal optical drive from the memory card reader works fine, no problem, but for some reason the transfer to the external always fails. The process stalls and never completes.
I need to use an external DVD optical drive to save the internal from wear and tear, and potential damage due to excessive usage over time; I burn 20 to 30 discs a day. Cheaper to replace an external drive than the one built into the notebook. Several conversations with tech support failed to get the issue resolved. Finally it was suggested that I send it in for repair, where it is right now. Hopefully I'll get it back soon with the issue fixed.
I'm curious, has anyone come across this issue before? What was done to get it working properly? Thanks for your feedback. I'm planning on getting another Toshiba, and want to know just in case this issue pops up again so I can correct what may be a simple resolution as adjusting a setting.

I have not run into this problem yet however I do know if you use your computers RAM to do this and then x-fer yourimages onto your drive, from thecomputer you are utilizing, that it is much faster.

Using a external laser wireless mouse with MacBook Pro

Recently I have been having a couple situations where when I move my wireless mouse the pointer lags around and is very jumpy. Not precise at all. This happens only when using the external and not the track pad at all. I want to say it is because the receiver is plugged into the left side of the laptop and I am right handed and maybe there is some interference? Can anyone let me know if they are experiencing the same issues and if there is a good fix. Thank you!

I would try putting the mouse just on the left hand side near the receiver to narrow down the issue and see if your still having those problems. If your still having that problem I would get a new mouse and if your not well then you know your problem. Good-luck

Future support for using PL/SQL core business logic with ADF BC

We want to migrate our large Forms client/server (6i) application to ADF, possibly using a migration tool like Ciphersoft Exodus.
One scenario could be to use ADF BC and ADF-Faces or a different JSF-Implementation for presentation and business layer but keep our heavy PL/SQL-businesslogic inside the Oracle database in packages, triggers, functions and procedures.
This scenario could be chosen due to the huge amount of interconnected logic inside the database (10 years of development; no technical components; any package may access any table and more of this kind of dependencies). The business logic nowadays held in Forms client will be moved mainly into the database as a prerequisite to this scenario.
Choosing this "keep-logic-in-DB"-scenario we need a good support by ADF BC to do so. We know and prototyped that it is possible to call some PL/SQL via JDBC from ADF BC and it is possible to use stored procedure calls for standard business entity data access (ins, del, upd, ..). But this does not solve our problems. We want to reuse core business logic coded in PL/SQL. This is much more than change the ADF standard behavior for an update with an own PL/SQL-call.
Now my question:
Will there be a kind of sophisticated support to use ADF BC in combination with database-kept logic?
If so, when will this happen and how will the common problems of transactional state inside the database and inside the ADF BC be solved? Any plans or ideas yet?
Many other clients do have similar applications built in Forms and PL/SQL and would be glad to hear about a path of direction.
I've read the technical article 'understanding the ADF BC state management feature' which you have contributed to. One current limitation is pointed out there: Using PL/SQL with ADF BC limits ADF AM pooling to 'restricted level' which reduces scalability.
Are you aware of additional main problems/tasks to solve when using PL/SQL heavily with ADF BC, which we have to think about?

My main problem is two 'concurrent' areas holding state in an application system based on DB-stored PL/SQL-logic in combination with ADF BC.
For a new System everything can be made ok:
Sure, it is possible to build a new system with the business logic included in ADF BC only. All long-living state will be handled in the BC layer ( including support for UnitsOfWork longer than the webside short HTTP-requests and HTTP-sessions and longer than the database transactions.
For an old system these problems arise:
1. DB data changes not reflected in BC layer:
Our PL/SQL-logic changes data in tables without notifying the ADF BC layer (and its cache). To keep the data in ADF BC entity objects identical to the changed database content a synchronization is needed. BC does not know which part of the application data has been changed because it has not initiated the changes through its entity objects. Therefore a full refresh is needed. In a Forms4GL environment the behavior is similar: We do frequently requeries of all relevant (base)tables after calling database stored logic to be sure to get the changed data to display and to operate on it.
-> Reengineering of the PL/SQL-logic to make the ADF BC layer aware of the changes is a big effort (notifying BC about any change)
2. longer living database transactions
Our PL/SQL-logic in some areas makes use of lengthy database transactions. The technical DB-transaction is similar to the UnitOfWork. If we call this existing logic from ADF BC, database state is produced which will not be DB-committed in the same cycle.
This reduces scalability of ADF BC AM pooling.
Example:
a) Call a DB-stored logic to check if some business data is consistent and prepare some data for versioning. This starts a DB-transaction but does not commit it.
b) Control is handed back to the user interface. Successful result of step a) is displayed
c) User now executes the versioning operation
d) Call another DB-stored logic to execute the versioning. DB-transaction is still open
e) Business layer commits the transaction automatically after successful finishing step d). Otherwise everything from a) to e) is rolled back.
-> redesign of this behavior (= cutting the 1to1 relation between LogicalUnitOfWork and the technicalDatabaseTransaction is a big effort due to the big amount of code.

Digital device to use to measure 3.3V logic with 5k pull-up and 10k series resistance

I have a digital instrument with the setup that is shown below. I wish to measure the logic state of the line with a National Instruments device. Which one do you recommend?
Trials and Failures: I tried using the usb-6501 but because of the 5V and 5k ohm pull-up on the insides of this device, I was getting bad readings and was told by my peers that this was the wrong instrument to use. I also tried using the digital pins on the usb-8451 and received the incorrect measurements. I need to figure out why the usb-8451 seemed to have the input pins floating when the logic level I provided as an input was a LOW.

libpurple/prefs: Unable to find rename pref for /core/plugins

You can use the external drive you want with your Mac. However, the "for Mac" external drives come prepared to connect them and start using them, and probably you will have to do some additional steps with your external drive.
First, you will have to format the external drive with "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", the only filesystem compatible with OS X. If you have got files on the external drive, you have to copy them to your Mac before erasing the drive. If you want to move a complete iMovie 10 library (file with .imovielibrary extension) click on the library in the libraries pane and select File - Consolidate Library Media. This ensures that all media is copied to the library. You can then move the library onto your external drive using Finder. The first time to want to access it from iMovie you will have to tell it where it is by choosing File - Open Library -Other and navigating to it.
If you only want to transfer part of a library to another drive, create a new library a at the desired location File - Open Library - New and copy projects and events to it from within iMovie.
Its all described in iMovie help - "Work with multiple libraries".

Certainly not without a dock but even with, HP laptop docks pretty well limit you to one of the external monitor ports, even if there are two on the dock. We have used a device called an Atlona AT-HDPIX2 which is a usb to hdmi adapter. It provides a third monitor capability for a laptop....use the native external monitor port and the internal laptop display and then this device gives a third monitor which is full configurable from the Windows 7 display interface...clone, extend, etc. It allows full HD resolution and is responsive enough for even light gaming. HP makes no true docking station for your laptop.
