Using an mp3 player

I've been spending quite a bit of time and money buying songs, but up to now I've just been listening to them on my computer. Can someone tell me how to put them on an MP3 player please? If I just copy and paste them, they appear as M4P files, and the device won't play them.
The use of CD players and iPods is well documented, but I can't find anything about using MP3 players (except illegal conversion programs!).

Just to be clear, MP4 (aka. "AAC") is the successor to MP3. iPods support the MP3 format just fine, but also both protected and unprotected AAC files, among other formats. They're an MP3 player, plus some.
If you choose to use an MP3 player that doesn't support protected AAC, then you probably shouldn't be buying from iTunes. If you player doesn't support protected WMA, then you won't be able to buy from many other online music stores either. It's the music labels demanding the protection, not Apple.
Format wars are defintely ugly. Look beyond the formats and see what is really happening in the industry and you'll see that Apple is trying to offer the best possible solution they can for the consumer. It's your choice if you want to enjoy the fruits of their labor or use someone else's services.
They don't see iTunes standing alone. Their iPod is the portable counterpart. It's an end-to-end solution.

  • Can I continue to use my MP3 player with M

I have just crossed over to Mac (OS 0.4.) from Windows and would like to keep on using my MP3 player (Creative MuVo200). I am able to sync up with CDs that are already in the music folder but am unable to rip and play whole CDs with either Flip4Mac or even Real Player. The players only seem to be able to play one song at a time rather that open a whole CD. Am I locked into i-tunes?

I have no problem syncing my MP3 player, the problem is with the actual software. I have Windows Media Player, Flip4Mac and Real Player but neither of them read the CD. The only I can do it is by opening a file under the file menu. That doesn't allow me to play the CD though, just play a chosen song within the CD. There also seems to be no way to rip a CD either. I absulutely don't want to use AAC files as they are not compatible with ProTools otherwise I would just stick to i-Tunes. I've also tryed XNJB but have the same problem with that.

  • Using the mp3 player with various comput

    Hello,
I was wondering if I can use the mp3 player with more than one computer, that's to say, not only with the first one. I'm in the USA now but I li've in Italy, so if I buy it here and use it here to download songs, then will I be able to use it in Italy too? Meaning, will I be able to use it with another computer and download others song on it's
And another question, concerning the battery, what happens when it dies? Because on the mp3 player homepage I read something about replacing it but I would like to know more about it. The battery is a big concern because I'm choosing between Ipod and this one, and on the discussion forums of Ipod, it wasn't very reassuring. While I had heard that Creative's battery is good.
Thank you very much. Please answer soon.

Lithium Ion batteries last on average 3 years at peak performance from date of manufacture. More here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

  • Using an MP3 player with iTunes

We have two iPods and my daughter has a Samsung MP3 player. Now that music on iTunes 8 can be played on other digital music players (not iPods), how do you actually get the music from iTunes onto the MP3 player? Do I have to burn it to a CD first?

That is two different questions. If the Samsung can handle AAC files, then you can use iTunes Plus purchases on it. (iTunes 8 has nothing to do with it.)
As far as loading the songs, iTunes cannot be used for any player other than an iPod. For best advice, read the instructions that came with the Samsung.

  • Using multiple MP3 Player With iTunes

I'm new to iTunes and have a Sansa MP3 player that I want to give my young son. I would then buy an iPod for myself. Can I transfer songs back and forth to multiple MP3 players (not necessarly iPods) from my PC without purchasing the same song again? In other words, once I buy a song, can I sync it to multiple palyers?

Content purchased from the iTunes Store is in a protected AAC format except for EMI songs, which are unprotected AAC songs. Neither format will work on an MP3 player without being converted; see here for instructions on converting an unprotected song.
A song can be synced from the iTunes library to any handheld player capable of using that format without needing to purchase it again.

  • Anyone use an MP3 player besides an Apple?

    Aloha,
I am thinking of buying a Sandisk Sansa Fuze or Clip+.
I love my iMac but want to try a new MP3 player with better sound quality.
    Please share your experiences.
    Mahalo! :]]]

The SanDisk players use Windows Media Player to take the place of iTunes (for interfacing with an palyer). It seems like you will be able load it manually, by dragging and dropping files using Finder, but you will not be able to do all the things iTunes does for you, such download media, manage media, and create playlists.
Also, according to the specs, it does not play the non-proprietary AAC format. Many other non-Apple players can play unprotected AAC (which is the audio component of the open MPEG-4 format), but I do not see AAC listed in the supported formats for those SanDisk players. iTunes can obviously rip to and play MP3, but if your library has AAC encoded files (which Apple favors), you'll have to convert or re-encode them.

  • Using craig mp3 player

I know this is a IPod forum but Im not very computer savy so please bear with me. I purchased a Craig MP3 player and have downloaded some songs from ITunes. I know that everything has been installed correctly regarding the MP3 player because I can download MP3's that I have saved to my computer but I cannot figure out how to import the songs that I have purchased through ITunes. I know I must be doing something wrong. You cannot click onto "UPDATE IPOD". It is shaded out.

no worries. It isn't easy for a reason: to keep the less scrupulous folks from making really, really good verions that then end up on p2p networks
1)set up a playlist with everything you want to burn.
2)in the preference pane, under burning, check "Audio CD"
3)burn the playlist to an audio CD.
4)in the preference pane, under importing, set the preference to .mp3
5)select the CD that you burned from your source list
6)look in the uper right corner. There should be an iconrelated to step 4. Click it.
    7)wait...
    7.5)ding!
8)use whatever app came with your player to load it. If it is a flash based player, you might even be able to drag and drop.
Just remember: purchased music can't be directly converted to a non protected file type. It needs to be an audio CD first. I have a few cdrw lying around for this.

  • Can you use a mp3 player other then Ipod to download music

I have an Iriver mp3 player and tried to download music to it. I have Limewire pro , i even tried added the start up disk that came with it and the computer does not even acknowledge it all. I use my usb and with a pc it would automatically go to my music file but not on my mac. I have the new leopard program and still no. Do they only want you to use Ipods??? If so that is not even fair. You have to buy each and every song from itunes. Mind you I did pay for the Limewire Pro. Help is there a way or do I have to buy an Ipod

Your system should at least acknowledge any input. Make sure the box in Finder's preferences and iTunes preferences are checked. You should have a icon in the upper right corner telling you of a external devise located. One of these two boxes must not be checked. As far as loading music (downloading music) to it, I doubt it. It may be, I never tried. When I plug in my iPod, it shows, iTunes opens and it syncs. Than I get a message telling me it is OK to remove. The MP3 player, hooked up through the USB port should be displayed. Everything hooked up via USB displays. I wou gues it is a setting within iTunes preferences.

  • How can I use Iphone 4 as an mp3 player without a sim card until I get one?

    Hi,
How can I use Iphone 4 as an mp3 player without a sim card until I get one? I just bought the phone and each time I try to switch it on to use the mp3 player, I cannot. It asks me to insert a sim card and I don't have a sim card yet. I was thinking I could use the mp3 player function of my phone until I buy a sim card.
Thank you for your help in advance,

Thank you, I understand, yeah, I knew that, my phone is factory unlocked and I am going home, which is obviously not in the States and I am thinking of buying a local carrier there. However, I still have 2 weeks before I leave and cannnot wait to start using my Iphone 4. I thought at least I could use the mp3 player function. So as far as I understand, I cannot activate it without a sim card. I have been using metropcs for about two years and it does not have a sim card. In this case, do I really not have another choice but wait for two weeks to listen to music? My Mp3 player just failed me and I really need to listen to music but on the other hand, while I can use my iphone as an mp3 player in two weeks, I don't want to spend more money on a new one. So, do you have another suggestion? For instance, can I use a friend's sim card to activate mine? Would this cause any trouble, when I go home and buy a local carrier? I think these questions might kinda sound weird to you, but first time with an Iphone, extremely excited to start using under my circumstances, I need help   thanks,

  • C7 - mp3 player

Hi, I've recently updated my 6303 to C7 I have problem with mp3 player. I like to listen music from various artist group in on file directory ( mix of music). In 6303 I could play music from file directory (player played all pieces in directory), in C7 player plays only one piece and thats all. I can't create playlist, because I have to add piece by piece, but in 6303 I could add all directory. Help me please, is there any other player I could use? Or maybe Nokia release new firmware that fix my problem?

I understand your problem well, as I had the same problem with my old 6120c. I assumed Nokia would have solved this problem on my C7. Are you sure you were able to play a whole folder on another Nokia phone?
When you play a song from the file directory it's as if the phones explorer is playing the song. It's not possible to use any of the mp3 players functions, such as creating a playlist when you play music from a folder.
The solutions I've come up with are the following:
SOLUTION 1. create a playlist on your computer and copy the files to a folder (media monkey works great for this). In that folder select all tracks and rename the album to the name you wish for the playlist. This way when you copy the folder to your C7 you can find the playlist in the music library of the mp3 player. However, before the album/artist shows up in the music library, you have to select "refresh library" from the options.
Unfortunately another problem with the C7 is that you cannot search for albums or artists separately, but only artists and albums combined. When you find the album, under an arbitrary artist's name (not the first in the list) you can hold your finger down on the album and choose "add to playlist" and create a playlist from the whole album.
SOLUTION 2. Make sure all your mp3s are correctly tagged with the artist names and albums and browse through your library adding on track at a time....
Wouldn't it be great if the programmers saved us users time by actually fixing such problems and programming a user-friendly mp3 player?
When using the MP3 Player on the C7 I get the feeling the programmers never used an MP3 player. They're still listening to cassettes while programming. Even my old 6120's mp3 player had better library browsing: including separate menus for tracks, artists, albums, track lists, genres and composers and an option to search in all these menus!
    Hope I helped you out!

  • Which MP3 Player Should I buy?

After using a MP3 player in my clunky  5 year old cell phone for years, I'd like to buy a player.  I understand that the I-tunes program that my sister downloaded onto my computer, along with her songs will only play on an Apple I-Pod.  Does that mean I have to buy an I-Pod, or can I use her songs on a different MP3 player?  Is the quality the same for the different brands?  I wouldn't be a fan of the monopoly that Apple has  if I can avoid it.  I just want something light to use for excercise, perhaps a Nano or Sony with 16 GB or so.
    Thanks

Nokia is correct the iTunes files are in .m4a format. However you can easily right click on the song in iTunes and select "Create ___ Version". I left that blank in there because iTunes has different conversion options like convert it to mp3, acc, apple lossless, wav or aiff. I should also note this will not affect the original song. It will just make a second copy of it with one being the original in .m4a format and the second being in whatever format you selected.

  • Help! My MP3 player Died and I'm trying to recover my song

Hi Guys, I don't know if you'll be able to help me but I thought it was worth a shot.
I had a pretty ancient MP3 player (The creative Nomad Jukebox Zen USB 2.0). It basically stopped working (it wouldn't switch on or charge). However it had all my songs on it which i'm trying to gett off the hard drive and put onto my computer.
I've taken out the hard drive and I've put it in a little hard drive case that i bought off Ebay which i connected to my PC via USB. It seems to be recognising it as a USB mass storage device but when i go into My computer there is no additional drive. Below are the details of what I am using
    My MP3 player

    Any help is much appreciated

your best option would be to find a replacement player, and swap the hardri'ves.
One of the things i've seen countless times on here and other forums are people desparatly trying to find a way to rescue their music as they only have it stored on thier mp3 player/portable device.
With hard dri'ves being relativly cheap, as well as other storage methods it seem odd that people rely on portable devices as their only storage for their digital files.
It doesnt matter how well you may 'look after' yourt mp3 player, at the end of the day ts a portable devices, and will be subjected to some knocks and bumps along the way as well as a multitude of other risks ( ie accidentaly dropping it down the toilet, spilling beer in/on it and so on)
All of my Music is backed up on my P.Cs main hard dri've, and everything on my P.Cs hard dri've ( including the music) is all backed up onto an external USB hard dri've that is stored in another location to my P., also i have another back up on DVD RW of my music files.
Hard disks are cheap, as are adaptors/caddys to plug them into a USB socket, DVD RW media is cheap, your data files are irreplacebale, make sure that you have a back up[ of your stuff.

  • MP3 Player (Zen Micro)won't recognize fully charged battery and won't recognize compu

    Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for me. I can not download the new firmware until I can get the computer to stay connected to the MP3 Player long enough. The only way I can use the MP3 Player is if it is plugged into the wall. Any ideas of why the MP3 Player will not recognize the fully charged battery?
    Thank you?
    Kukmeri?

Is it possible that your battery might be worn out or defecti've? If a fully charged battery only lasts a very short period, there would either be a problem with the player cutting off at the incorrect voltage or the battery itself is not capable of holding much of a charge.
