Using anonymous to delete or rename files

We have setup pure-ftpd on our Sles 10sp3 Oes2, we would like the anonymous user to be able to delete or rename files in the directory, but we cannot find any setting for this on the configuration file. The anonymous home directory is located on the NSS volume. So is it possible to configure the anonymous user to delete or rename files ?

  • Open File dialog user can delete and rename files.

Does any one know if there is a way to prevent a user from deleting and renaming files by right clicking on them in an Open File dialog box?

Well, the problem is that this isn't a LV dialog box. It's the standard Windows file dialog box and this is the way they work in Windows.

Click on it, choose Get Info from the File menu, and check the format.
If it's formatted as NTFS, reformat it as MS-DOS, exFAT, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as desired.
If it's formatted as FAT32 or exFAT, use the Disk Utility's Repair Disk command on it.
If it's formatted as Mac OS Extended, click Authenticate and provide your administrator password, or change the permissions on that specific folder in its Get Info window.

  • Move, delete, or rename files in Open or Save As Dialog box

I want to be able to rename, delete or move a file when I am in an Open or Save As dialog box. Sometimes when I am opening a file or saving a new file I spot an existing file that needs to be renamed, moved to a folder or even deleted. In Windows I would just take care of that file and then keep going with what I was doing in the first place. This doesn't seem to work in Mac OSX. I have to stop, go to a Finder window, go to the location, do what I want to do to the file and then go back to the Open or Save As dialog box. There's go to be a better way in the "world's most advanced operating system." Ideas?

  • Can't delete or rename files

Hi, I have a seagate drive that is formated to Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then I copied some files to it from a different drive, now I am having an issue that if I created a folder it will be named as untitled folder so when I try to rename it, it won't accept, it says I dont have permission, even that just now I created it, and it stays for ever as untitled.
The weired part also is that there are some folders that I have full access to it and others I don't, I have atached the screenshot of the permission part for you to understand whats going on. You will see one screenshot for the folder music, this folder I can rename it, and the other folder in the name of my pic, that folder I cant rename it.
I hope I can solve this issue thanks

  • Rename files using Enter key

Using the Enter key to rename files and folders works only with items in the desktop. Everywhere else I need to use Command+Enter. Any one experiencing this behavior? Any ideas on how to make it work as it should (only Enter needed)?

  • File present after deleting from gallery file

This problem seems to have multiple symptoms:
I save an image over another image in the gallery, but the original image is displayed.
I delete an image file from the gallery file then save another file into the folder with the same name as the previously deleted then the deleted image is displayed when used.
I delete an image file from the gallery folder then start a new, blank, project and the image file that I deleted is available to use in the project...but the file isn't in the gallery!?
Can someone please help me figure out how to permanently remove these "ghost" files?

    Indeed it isn't clear.
So I'm not sure what you are reporting here. It sounds as if you have visited the Gallery in order to delete an unwanted image, no? And on deleting an unwanted image, you create a new project and somehow see it?
For one thing, a totally new project shouldn't be using anything from the Gallery. Now there may be other content that gets added if you elected to use a Theme. Is that perhaps what's happening here?
What exactly are you seeing that you wish to wave goodbye to? A screen shot might help. To add one, use the Camera icon in the web interface to the forums. Don't try to attach to email.

  • Rename files and retain portions of the original filename

I posted a thread about this a while ago, but no solution was given:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2564646
The issue is this: I can't figure out how to rename imported files while also retaining part of the original filename. The images come off of the camera like this:
    DSC_3497.nef
I need to do the following:
+- Retain the unique number that the image already has. I don't want to rename the files by date, location, lunar phase, or some other esoteric identifier. I think having a unique ID for each image (one that shows up in standard OS-level searches on both Mac and PC systems) is useful.+
+- Replace "DSC" with the camera model (D3X), since I use multiple cameras with different resolutions and also need to be able to search for images from a certain camera outside of Aperture (i.e. tags/keywords would not help).+
+- Add a digit prior to the four-digit string to indicate the true numeric sequence of the file. Since Nikon cameras reset the number sequence every 10,000 files, I want to indicate the true sequence number directly in the filename. This will also avoid filename overlaps. It also lets me know how many images I've shot with each camera.+
The intended final result would look like this:
    D3X_63497.nef
Showing the 63,497th image taken with my D3X.
In Aperture's "File Naming" dialog, I don't see a way to split the existing filename in this way. It looks like I can only append or prepend a Custom Name to the Version/Master name. I don't see a way to split the existing filename at the underscore, for example, so that portions of the original filename can be selectively replaced.
This is not about finding a workable naming scheme for Aperture and then renaming all existing files. I spend time on the PC side for various things and also work with a number of people who don't use Aperture but need access to my image library. I also have hundreds of references to existing filenames in various print and web design projects, as well as my Flickr account with 3000+ photos.
Going back and updating all that stuff is not going to happen. But using a System Service to rename files after every import is also pretty tedious.
Any solutions that meet the three criteria outlined above would be greatly appreciated.

    sempervirent,
You're asking for some pretty advanced file naming. Most people aren't going to need that sort of function, so I doubt there will be a hook into Aperture to do such a thing. I suggest using a shell script or Applescript along with EXIFTool to rename files before you import them into Aperture. http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/
Retain the unique number that the image already has
If you're not afraid of the command line, it's easy enough to use a tool like awk or maybe perl to parse that sequence number from a well-formatted string like the picture name
Replace "DSC" with the camera model (D3X)
You can use EXIFTool to extract the camera model from the EXIF dat ain the photos
Add a digit prior to the four-digit string to indicate the true numeric sequence of the file.
Good luck with this one. You'll have to do a filename search through all of your previous files to find out what 10,000 you're on. It's possible, but you'd have to do some specialized coding in AppleScript or shell script.

  • Rename/Batch Rename files

    I use PSE 5.
I name all my images before I import them into Organizer. Here is an example: 2007-11-01 071500 Bolsa Chica pelican -- meaning this picture of a pelican was taken November 1, 2007 at 7:15AM. I may have a dozen or more images of pelicans from that day, but taken at different times obviously. If I would like to rename/batch rename these files to indicate brown pelicans instead of just pelicans, can I do it within the program and still retain the date and the different times for images?
I can't find a way to do it. And I've searched this site as well as The Missing Manual. I've been using PSE since Ver. 3, but have always used another program to batch rename files. I'm guessing Adobe expects users to rely on tags, otherwise they would have a more "sophisticated" batch rename capability.
But am I missing something about batch renaming? Sorry for the very long post . . .
    Wendell

I have several bones to pick with PSE5's file rename ability (in Organizer, go to File, Rename), primarily the 30-character limit on new names.
I use long file names like
2007-11-11 Al and Nadia wedding NYC roses-1.jpg
2007-11-11 Al and Nadia wedding NYC roses-2.jpg
2007-11-11 Al and Nadia wedding NYC Peter and Julie.jpg
The spaces make for easier legibility to humans.
If I were to include these files in a web address, I'd use hyphens.
For this past Thanksgiving I toiled over the metadata in a group photo that might become important for family history, adding title, caption, keywords, date. I found that the "Save for Web" dialog strips some or all of the metadata, and other programs might or might not read or preserve the metadata.
A number of people who receive my photos cannot readily use the metadata:
    --Naive users (gram and gramps)
--Busy and distracted users (the niece who is a mother of 3; the day-trader who's thinking about his puts and calls)
--People with poor support (a friend who has some sort of Photoshop Starter edition at work that does not recognize keywords; and she can't justify even Photoshop Elements)
Even among all these folks, almost no one is using an operating system that requires short names.
So, I put an abundance of information into my file names. Photoshop Elements allows that ON IMPORT, but not after the fact IN THE ORGANIZER.
I just hope that this inconsistency is fixed in PSE6. I get tired of explaining this over and over again to folks.
    -- Bob
P.S. I love Photoshop Elements, but I'm looking into moving my picture store to my MacBook Pro, and using Bridge (already installed) and GraphicConvert to manage my photos.

  • Deleting & renaming files - is there a shortcut to finder?

I am a recent convert from PC to Mac. So far so good. However, one thing starts to drive me up the wall which is deleting/renaming files in programs such as photoshop, word, excel etc.etc.
As far as I can tell, this is only possible in the finder menu. Is this Correct? I am using a lot of folders and subfolders - sometimes 3-4 levels deep. Every time I need to change/delete a file or filename - lets say while in photoshop, I have to go to finder and click my way through several levels of folders to the actual file I need to change. This is somewhat annoying and timeconsuming.
Question 1: is there a way to do these operations in - lets say photoshop directly?
Question 2: If not, is there a shortcut key that would point me automatically to the file in finder where I can make the changes?
Your input would be very helpful and save me some aggravation.
    fupe

    Hi Greg,
Thanks for your input. You are correct as far as "save" and "save as" is concerned. Windows and Mac work the same way.
However, as far as I can tell, in Mac you can only "delete" or "rename" a file in "finder" which forces you to open up finder and locate the file in order to delete or change it.
In windows you can do these 2 functions directly in the program (such as photoshop, excel or words). You do not have to go to "explorer or root directory" to make these changes which I believe would be the equivalent of "finder".
In any case, Terence solved the problem. By command clicking the name (title) of the file in any program, it opens up the directory in "finder". This way makes it easy to select the file and do the changes.

  • Can't delete, rename files, or move to another folder

I had posted earlier about not being able to delete, rename files, or move to another folder. It never was resolved here, and I guess Apple still hasn't done anything about it. Here's a great workaround I found though in case others need something. Download the program called "Unlocker", it's free and you can get it at http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ When you get the message about the file being in use, even though QuickTime isn't even open, you can unlock the f'ing file and do whatever you want to then, move, uh DELETE, or rename, or whatever. Try it, it's the best thing going so far seeing Apple isn't doing anything about this problem.

  • Get old item name for renamed files using TFS API

My current tfs will be retired in next few months.I am using tfs api to create a parallel tfs on a new server from the existing one. I have folders and solutions that have been renamed. I am iterating items and based on their changetype(add, edit, delete,
sourcerename etc), I am checking them in destination tfs.
I am not able to get Old filename for a file, in order to use PendRename when the item that is being iterated is Delete|SourceRename or Rename.
I tried the mentioned solution :
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/f9c7e7b4-b05f-4d3e-b8ea-cfbd316ef737/how-to-get-previous-path-of-renamedmoved-of-file-using-tfs-api?forum=tfsgeneral
But, my changeset has a lot of changes and hence identifying a particular file seems difficult.
Do we have something that interraltes two items (the deleted and renamed) ones other than the changeset, because there needs to be a uniquely identifier that associated the two items so that they may appear together in TFS history?

    Hi Fabcoder,
As Daniel mentioned, you can migrate source control files and work items to the new TFS server by using TFS integration tools.
If the new server has the complete history, then you can view the history of the specific file to check the pervious path. Or you can do a compare between the project in new TFS where the file located with the matched project in current TFS to check
    the differences.

  • Rename files in Terminal using mv and sed

I want to rename multiple files (in one directory) using mv and sed in Terminal (Mac OS 10.6.8).
I want to change each and every file name from IMG_nnnn.jpg to HVAC_nnnn.jpg, where nnnn is the camera's sequence number. I want to preserve the sequence number and the jpg extension while changing only the file name prefix (the part before the underscore).
    Here's what I tried:
    macatony-2:HVAC ctossc$ ls -d *.jpg | sed -e 's/.*/mv -f & &/' -e 's/IMG/HVAC/' | sh
    This is the result:
mv: rename HVAC_0205.jpg to IMG_0205.jpg: No such file or directory
I wanted "rename IMG_0205.jpg to HVAC_0205.jpg".  The arguments to mv seem to be reversed, so the mv command can't "rename" (or delete) the HVAC* file before it is created.
    Any suggestions?

I still wonder however, why my original code reversed the order of the mv arguments. Knowing that would make my earlier failed attempts a learning experience.
1st) nbar's 'for' loop is the best in my opinion
Why your script got things backwards.  lets break it down
    ls -d *.jpg | sed -e 's/.*/mv -f & &/'
    generates:
    mv -f IMG_1.jpg IMG_1.jpg
    mv -f IMG_2.jpg IMG_2.jpg
    mv -f IMG_3.jpg IMG_3.jpg
    mv -f IMG_4.jpg IMG_4.jpg
    mv -f IMG_5.jpg IMG_5.jpg
    mv -f IMG_6.jpg IMG_6.jpg
    mv -f IMG_7.jpg IMG_7.jpg
    mv -f IMG_8.jpg IMG_8.jpg
    mv -f IMG_9.jpg IMG_9.jpg
    ls -d *.jpg | sed -e 's/.*/mv -f & &/' -e 's/IMG/HVAC/'
    generates:
    mv -f HVAC_1.jpg IMG_1.jpg
    mv -f HVAC_2.jpg IMG_2.jpg
    mv -f HVAC_3.jpg IMG_3.jpg
    mv -f HVAC_4.jpg IMG_4.jpg
    mv -f HVAC_5.jpg IMG_5.jpg
    mv -f HVAC_6.jpg IMG_6.jpg
    mv -f HVAC_7.jpg IMG_7.jpg
    mv -f HVAC_8.jpg IMG_8.jpg
    mv -f HVAC_9.jpg IMG_9.jpg
because when the -e 's/IMG/HVAC/' executed, it changed the 1st occurance of IMG, which was the IMG following the -f
I personally do not use 'sed' anymore except for some really trivial stuff.  If I need to general messing with a list or the contents of a file I use 'awk' or 'perl', both of which are a bit easier to work with and for me to read afterwards.  But if you really wanted to fix the 'sed' you could have used:
    ls -d *.jpg | sed -e 's/IMG\(.*\)/mv -f & HVAC\1/' | sh
HOWEVER, I would not really use either 'awk' nor 'perl' for this task.  I would use something similar to what 'nbar' gave you (although I might have over complicated mine some more where as 'nbar' kept it simple and easy to read
