Using another computer to sync ipod?

My main laptop just died and not sure it can be resurrected and it was the computer to which my ipod was synced---it was a PC with Windows XP.  I have another and newer PC laptop with Windows 7 but it doesn't have all my data on the hard  drive,  For example, there's no contact info on this newer laptop. I've already 'authorized' this laptop with iTunes but what I need to know before plugging my ipod into this new laptop is what happens when the units sync---will I lose all the contact info that is now resident on my ipod? Or, wiil the contact info now on the ipod transfer to the newer laptop? Thanks for any help you can provide.

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different:
Using iPod with Multiple computers
Managing content manually on iPod
Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Using another computer to sync iPod nano

My grandson has an iPod and subscribes to iTunes. My question is: If I connect to his computer will it automatically download all from his iPod library on to my iPod Nano. Or can I set up my own Itunes as a separate account on his computer. Hope this makes sense.
Be grateful for a quick response. By the way I am living in the UK and he is in Australia where I shall be on holiday soon.
    Thanks

How can I solve these stupid restrictions?

    Where are iTunes files located?
No, I do not mean just the music.  Copying just the media/music files or the media folder creates problems.

iPod touches or any iDevices from Apple sync only to one computer. If you sync to a different computer, all your music will be replace with the music from the new computer's iTunes. If the music were purchased from iTunes, you can re-download them again otherwise the music on iPod touch will be deleted. Do you have iTunes backup?

  • Itunes- using another computer

    Hi all,
I have been using my computer to sync and add songs onto my ipod,
however, I have switched to using a laptop and since using a different itunes.
How do I add songs onto my Ipod from my new itunes ( laptop) without deleting the songs belonging to the old itunes or adding songs from my other Itunes to my current one?
    Thank you

You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys. On a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7.3 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
However the safest thing to do if you want to connect to multiple computers regularly is to change the update preference to "Manually manage music and videos":
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Why can i use one computer to sync music

It ***** to find out that with using iTunes, you can only use one computer to sync things such as music. The computer that I was previously using with syncing died on me and now that I am on a new one it says that I have to erase everything on my iPhone just to put one mixtape on it which is complete BS. So I ask you Apple, iTunes support, or whoever, why?

If you had your itunes backed up then you would not have that problem. You could restore it using time machine, if on a mac, or other backup software, if on a pc. Also if you had itunes match then you don't need itunes at all to sync your music up anymore.

  • How do I install Snow Leopard using another computer?

My 2009 MacBook meets all the criteria for the Snow Leopard upgrade, but my dvd drive is broken. Every time insert the dvd it is spit out (it is the same for audio cd's as well). I have tried repairing the drive and installing snow leopard using an external dvd drive (with no luck). I need a simple guide for using another computer to do the upgrade. My boyfriend has a newer MacBook Pro and I believe is operating on Lion. I want to use his computer to upgrade mine, is it possible eventhough we are on different operating systems?

I created a slide show on my work computer and placed many photos and movies in my work computer's Media Browser. Want to use another computer (laptop) to give the presentation and therefore change location of slide show. Do I need to copy the media browser to the laptop or once the pictures and movies are embedded in the original slide show, can I take it anywhere and not worry about the media browser?
I also want to optimize a movie for Keynote, so it's not too large a file. Please help.

Graphic, sound and video files are copied into the Keynote file, but make sure Keynote > Preferences - include sound and movies check box is ticked.
If you have added additional fonts they will need be changed to reflect what is on the destination machine.
If the other machine has a different Keynote version, ensure the same transitions and effects are available.

Can I work in Adobe Cloud while traveling without my studio computer and using another computer?  Can I work on everything just in the Adobe Cloud?

    Hi Legauche,
You can install and activate Creative Cloud desktop applications on two computers, regardless of operating system, for the individual associated with the Creative Cloud membership. See the product license agreements page for more information. Install the CC apps on the second machine and use the applications.

I'm waiting for the new phones to replace my ancient one.  But I'm trying to upgrade the software.  It gives me a message saying I need to  use the computer I sync my apps to - if I use this computer I'll lose all my apps.  but I AM using the computer I use to sync my apps.  HELP!

Try right clicking your phone's name on the iTunes sidebar and click tranfer purchases (you need to have iTunes set for you to manually mange your media to do this, I think). Also be sure to create a backup just incase what I said earlier works and you being updating without one.
