Using Apple Keyboard on Windows

My question is the following:
A few weeks ago I decided to buy an Apple Keyboard (the wired one), but before buying it, I wanted to know if it is compatible with an Windows XP based computer. I would appreciate if someone could tell me if it is compatible or not.
Thanks

It is compatible...meaning it works. However, I have yet to find drivers that make the "special" keys work.

Does anyone have a cheat sheet for using a wired Apple keyboard with Windows 7 (the bootcamp setup)? I like to use keyboard shortcuts, both in OS X and in Windows. When I switch to my Windows partition, I haven't figured out the key combinations to use on the Apple keyboard.
UPDATE: Never mind. I found it here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5636?viewlocale=en_US

I know a lot of people have asked this question, but I could not find a anwser that works. I am using an apple keyboard with my windows 7 laptop. I could not change the delete key to delete, apple keyboard delete button is backspace, not delete. Of cause, I have to use the on screen keyboard to log in each time becaue there is no delete button on apple's keyboard. Can some one provide a simply method to convert my apple keyboard to windows keyboard? Thanks and I appreciate your help.

  • Using mac keyboard on Windows, how to get all CS shortcuts working like on OSX?

    Hi!
Firstly, thanks all for any tips/help, it's very much appreciated!
My girlfriend is using a mac at work to design with CS 5. At home she has a windows 7 laptop though.
It seems one of the biggest issues is that the shortcuts aren't working the same, which reduces her productivity so much that it does not make any sense to work from home.
So we still have one of the fancy apple USB keyboards at home and I was wondering if it's possible to get CS working with an apple keyboard under windows so that she can use the same shortcuts which she uses at work with CS5 under OSX?
Thanks for your help in advance!
    Thomas

Using a Mac keyboard for the PC won't help. It will probably map the command key to the Windows key. Bob's answer is right on the money. She has to retrain her muscle memory, when at home use control, when at work use command.

  • Using an Apple Keyboard in Windows

So it's a pretty commonly known issue that the function keys on the Apple Wireless keyboard don't do a thing in Windows. Is there some way. I'm using Windows 8.1 on an Windows PC, not a Mac, so I don't have access to the Boot Camp drivers. Is there some workaround? I'd really really like them to behave completely normally and use the Windows GUI for volume selection and music controls.
It seems pretty sub par that I've payed for a keyboard that really should work fine on Windows but that is missing basic functionality. I don't know if the problem is being caused on Microsoft's or Apple's end, though I suspect either could fix it easily and make the keyboard work with full functionality on connection without any hassle.
I found an install link to the Apple Wireless Keyboard drivers that I believe come with bootcamp and did that but the drivers are now just sitting in Device Manager not doing anything. To be more specific, in Device Manager, under Bluetooth there is 'Apple Wireless Keyboard' but under Keyboards is 'HID Keyboard Device' which is the default driver Windows appears to be using.
So yeah, I'd love some help.
    Thanks

Yes..I know.   There are still people buying Apple devices for use with Windows and I want Google searches to find this page.  Apple doesn't support these devices outside of Boot Camp.  And after using Boot Camp for years, I can tell you they don't work too well in Boot Camp either.  Apple's crappy drivers were designed to paint Windows in the palest light possible.  It was a cheap charlatan's trick.
Apple sure has changed recently.  I remember a time when Mac Pro's had tons of expansion capabilities and Mac Book Pros had great graphics.  iPhones were small and elegant, not the of Android shape of today - an overused bar of soap.  I remember a time when iPad was the future of computing...not a the quickly stagnant coffee table computer with shrinking sales - the Netbook of this decade.  My Apple keyboard is the last Apple product I'm still using...my fingers still like it despite the failings.  But it too is starting to wear on me.  Why can't Apple get even this right?  A simple keyboard?  It's depressing.

  • Using ALT+cursor function of apple keyboard for windows program

Not sure where to ask this question, but here goes. My company uses a web based transportation routing program I can access from my home computer, (which is a Mac using Mac, not windows).
Using the program requires the ability to often select or deselect lines from a group of lines to send to be routed. Using a Microsoft keyboard I would simply press ALT and then select with the cursor the lines I want. When I am using my apple keyboard this does not work.
I know that the command key takes the place of the ALT key, so you would think that I would simply press Command and select with the cursor, but this does not work. Therefore all I can do is select all or none.
Anyone have a idea of another combination of keys that will work for this?
    Thanks
I am using the standard apple keyboard with the numeric keys

Not sure why that isn't working. I have a page displaying below from the Apple Support website, with three different lines selected:
The purple highlighted lines are all selected independently of one another. Maybe it is the type of webpage or data?

  • Using apple keyboard's default keys (play/pause, next, previous song) with iTunes on windows 7

    Hi,
I'm using my apple keyboard (wired with numpad) connected to a windows 7 machine. I'd like to know if there is any way for the default iTunes keys (previous song, play/pause song and next song) to work on windows? It's very annoying to constantly alt tab to iTunes and use the arrow keys and spacebar... Also, can I link the mute, lower and higher sound buttons to the audio output?
    Thanks in advance!!

I have this same problem, but with Windows XP Pro. It MUST be a iTunes and a Microsoft IntelliType driver issue.
I JUST reinstalled my computer and loaded all new everything and the buttons worked off and on (depending on focus). I don't remember doing anything to make it work last time. The only thing I remember was installing a plug-in so my ATI Remote Wonder worked with iTunes.
I downloaded Chris's dll as suggested. Worked flawlessly. I hope Apple and/or Microsoft fix this in the next release of their software.

  • Apple Keyboard in Windows doesn't like External HD

I just bought a new Apple keyboard to use on my native Windows XP Pro machine at work. Note: this is not Windows in Boot Camp; it's a Dell PC.
When I have the apple keyboard plugged in to the USB at the same time my external hard drive is connected, the HD will stop working, and Windows won't recognize it. As soon as I unplug the apple keyboard, the hard drive will be recognized by Windows and will load up normally.
Each peripheral works fine when the other isn't plugged in, but as soon as they're both plugged in, they have a stand off.

Its not normal, stannard, but it is certainly technically possible for this to occur. If the drive draws more current than it should for some reason (ie more than the regular FW specioication) then the port may not be able to provide sufficient. I have seen similar problems mentioned as an issue with bus powered USB devices on some PBs, for example, and it can be common in situations where more than one bus powered device is attached simultaneously on many computers.
You are probably more likely to run into such an issue when running from battery rather than the mains I would think.
Different computers have different abilities in this area, so the fact that the drive won't work on one computer but will on another is not altogether surprising, although it is uncommon, even if everything is working OK. Does the bus powered drive have a power connection option? Some do. It would be interesting to see if it worked when provided with an independent supply.
Have you tried another cable, yet? Cables really can be the bane of your life when it comes to firewire.
Some cable manufacturers actually sell cables that provide a visual indication of power and data availability - see http://www.granitedigital.com/catalog/pg18_firewirecables.htm for example. Worth considering, though I haven't tried them myself.
The article at http://www.wiebetech.com/whitepapers/FireWirePortFailures.php is interesting, by the way. Some of the stuff in http://www.macintouch.com/panfirewire04.html is too.

  • Apple Keyboard on Windows PC?

I am running Windows 7 on a Dell Windows PC. I am trying to get the Apple wired keyboard working so I can use the keys on the top of the keyboard. Keys like: volume up and down, eject, etc. Is there a way to do that?
I tried downloading a custom driver from uxsoft but it didn't seem to do anything.
    Thanks.

No. The embedded codes will only work on Apple hardware. You should not use an Apple keyboard on non-Apple hardware.

  • Apple keyboard on Windows XP?

    Hello everybody!
I just wondering. To get all this ready before i buy.
I'm not rich. That mean that I can't offer that much money to buy a Mac. (Actualy never touched a Mac neither. :S)
I was looking at the Apple keyboard (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB110LL/A) and I felt for it. And since my original Dell keyboard just got broke I do need a new one and I will buy that one. The computer is only for internet browsing and write stuff. But is the keyboard a gaming keyboard?
I know such buttons as play, next track, stop and CD out don't work. But is it any drivers to get those to work? I use a lot of music on that pc and would be very nice to have. And the two USB ports would be realy handy since the computer is hided.
It is a Windows XP Home edition running on an five year old Dell Dimension 3000.
But is this keyboard recommeded? Nice to write on?
Is it recommeded for me to run it on that pc pr should I go for some other keyboard? If it is recommeded, and need drivers pleas post it here.
I am new here at this forum, and sorry if this is wrongly posted.
I hope I will get some posetive answers since this product look so nice.
Thanks. (Sorry for my bad english.)

Hi Ravia and welcome to Discussions,
the 'Basics' of the Apple keyboard work without any drivers on a WIndows PC since it is basically an USB-connected keyboard.
For the extra keys you need the Apple Drivers which sadly are not avaiable for download.
Not sure if this keyboard qualifies as a gaming keyboard (I don't game) and whther the "typing feeling" will suit you (it suits me, but that's my personal impression).
Before buying I would really suggest to go into an Apple Store and try the keyboard yourself.
They might even be able to help with the 'missing drivers'.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Apple keyboard on Windows based PC ?

My keyboard is about to die & I'm looking for a very simple yet good looking keyboard. I was looking at getting an Apple keyboard for an upcoming iMac mini in the near future but now I actualy want to get the keyboard sooner to use on this PC.
Would that keyboard work ? If it does, what does the Apple key do ?
    Thanks in advance.

For the most part the Apple keyboard works well on a Windows PC. You'll have to get use the fact that the Alt/Option key and the Windows/Command key are reversed, but that's easily overcome. The Apple key, aka the Command key, typically maps automatically to the function of the Windows key found on most Windows style keyboards.
Also, some of the higher Windows F-Keys may not function (typically F13, F14 and F15) because they're also special keys in Windows (such as Print Screen). Not a huge loss.
You may also find that a keyboard re-mapper, such as Key Remapper or OkayKeybees comes in handy.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • Apple keyboard in windows xp

    Hi,

Where I can find drivers for windows fo this keyboard?
    thank you very much

I just bought a Mac Pro and it came with 2 OSX install discs. I still use a PC on the side but I just got a KVM so I'm sticking to the Apple keyboard. I found a file on the first install disc called "AppleKeyboardInstaller." I ran it in Vista Ultimate but it didn't seem to do anything. I was hoping to get the volume keys to work...

  • HT3986 apple keyboard for windows

There are so many PC-guy starting to use apple products, like me. I just buy apple keyboards numeric USA, although the salesmen told me the function would not full properly. My OS is Win 7 (64-bit), could you upload the software that I could use in my PC ? Thank you.

I found a used IBM USB keyboard at a yard sale for US$1 and use it when I'm in Windows. It's sufficiently compact and light to tuck away beside the iMac when I don't need it.
could you upload the software that I could use in my PC ? Thank you.
We are all end-users like you, not Apple employees. If you need to get a request for BootCamp features directly to Apple personal, use this link:

They will not respond, but the rght people will see it.

  • '{' Key not working with Apple Keyboard in Windows & Visual Studio

    Good morning,
I've been bugged by this forever now and tried it with Windows XP, Vista and 7 now on my macPro & (the latest version of) Bootcamp: I can type the { and } brackets just fine in most windows apps (e.g. start > run etc), but in visual studio, for some reason the 'ctrl + alt + 7' (for the '{') does result in the whole line being commented with // instead of the expected opening '{'. 'ctrl + alt + 0' ('}') does however work just fine.
Now I am really not sure why this is happening, but it's the same for VS2008 and the VS2010 beta and developing in C# without a proper '{' combo is somewhat.. difficult
Has anyone ever come across the same behavior and knows what to do?
    Cheers and thanks,

  • Synaptics touchpad blocked & delay when using the keyboard in Windows 8.1

Sometimes (possibly when I use the keyboard and then quickly attempt to move the mouse arrow on the screen with the Synaptics touchpad), I am unable to move the cursor for a half of second-or-so.
Sometimes I cannot tap to click, maybe, few seconds (it is very annoying).
There are some Mouse and touchpad settings in Windows 8.1 ("To prevent the cursor from accidentally moving while you type, change the delay before clicks work") which I set to "No Delay (always on)" but it does not work, either.
I also checked the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PrecisionTouchPad
but "AAPThreshold" is set correctly to 0 (No delay).
But I still experiences problems and touchpad does not work while typing and sometimes also few moments after.

    Hi,
If you trying connect two Universal apps through Bluetooth, can you check if the
Windows 8.1 Bluetooth RFComm sample runs fine on both the devices? I successfully tested the Windows 8.1 Bluetooth RFComm sample on Laptop (Windows 8.1) and Windows Phone 8.1 (paired).
Make sure the service which you are trying to advertise/listen is supported by both the devices.
