Using Apple Monitor - on/off indicator reversed..

My mini is connected to the 23" Apple display (early 2008).
When its running, the screen on/off LED is off. When I shut the Mini down, it is switching from off to on. This is rather irritating.
Is anyone else having that issue? What is going on there?
(This issue did not exist on my old mini (late 2005) using Tiger)

Hey Mikey
I had a similar problem with my new MacPro. Couldn't get my Lacie CRT to work with it although it worked fine with my G5. Apple sent me a new video card and we replaced it today. Works like a dream. Give AppleCare a call and they will most likely send you a new video card. They have been having problems with some of the ones that had shipped.

  • Using Apple monitor with my Viao

My Sony Vaio PCZ-RZ-324 has a Nvidia FX 5600 (Asus variant - http://www.nvidia.com/page/fx_5600.html) graphics card with a DVI port which cables can be plugged into at the back of my machine. I bought the machine with a VGA Sony monitor.
My better half has a fairly new 20" Apple Mac monitor which I have been passed (this one: http://bungatech.com/wp-content/uploads/20...emadisplay.jpg).
However, when the monitor is connected there is no output to the monitor. When the computer is connected and started up, a blank black screen only. Not any BIOS loading information, not any Windows XP Home logo, nothing. Just the machine running and a black screen.
I have found the following page at Apple: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301066 - its first paragraph suggests the reason for my problem maybe? I am not sure.
    Questions:
    1) What might be the reason for the black screen, and if it is the reason listed on the apple website, how can I find out if my graphics card "supports the full single link and/or dual link bandwidth defined in the DVI specification"?
    2) What to do to resolve, if this IS solvable?

The problem is that the 20" ACD onlu support the following ressolutions:
    - 1680 x 1050 pixels (optimum resolution)
    - 1280 x 800 pixels
    - 1024 x 640 pixels
If your graphic card can't handle one of these, than you will get a black screen.
The BIOS / POST message and Windows LOGO are even more difficult. The BIOS/POST requires 640x480 and same with Windows LEGO (I am not sure about that one, maybe it done in 800x600). For sure, your ACD won't be able to display these PC resolutions. Unless - you have a graphic card that can detect the ACD resolution and scale the VGA res into ACD res all in the firmware on the card (don't forget, Windows driver is not loaded yet).
Most graphic card manufactures don't even bother to advertise such features. Here is a very old list from the past thread which list all the BIOS friendly cards:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=221208
Note: I use ATI 9550 on my VAIO PC and I can see the BIOS message. There is even an option to let me either scale it to full screen or leaving black borders.
WinACD has nothing to do with the BIOS message. It lets you control the ACD from a Windows keyboard (just like on a Mac), and communicate the ACD sleep/wakeup status to/from the PC via USB. You can also change the function of the power button. I haven't seen L. Morichetti (the original programmer) on this site recently, but if you have any more questions, just ask here.

  • Why does my Apple monitor blink off and on?

    Laptop and additional monitor:
MacBook Pro late 2009 running Lion 10.7.5, updated
LED Cinema display, 24 inches, Late 2008 NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 graphics
The LED display started flashing off & on (to black -- it's not the alert flash, which is turned off in sys prefs). Changing monitor resolution did not fix it. Shutting down and re-seting the video cable plug did not fix it. The laptop display is not affected.
I restarted and reset PRAM multiple times. The on-off blinking continued for several minutes while I started to research the issue. Now, as I am writing this, I realize the blinking stopped after about five minutes or so.
    What might be going bad?
    Posting this under hardware, too.

My 30" monitor does the same thing with my Mac Pro.  Did the same thing about a year ago and then stopped doing it.  Now, it's starting to flash on and off again.  Connections are all tight.  I think it's a "warm-up" thing?  But, why did it stop doing it for so long and now just started doing it again?  Stops flashing on and off after about a 10-minute warm up period.

Have you plugged the USB cable into the computer also as the brightness is controlled over USB. If this does not work, you would need the Apple Display Driver for the version of Windows that you are using. The display driver is part of BootCamp software that you may be able to find online

Press any key on the wireless keyboard after you close the MBP and it goes to sleep. The computer will wake up with the external monitor as its display. This is called Clamshell mode.

  • Can i use apple tv to make my mac a monitor

can i use apple tv to make my mac a monitor

You can, somewhat. Certain iMacs released in the last two years support "Target Display Mode" which lets you use them as very expensive dedicated external monitors. In theory you could hook your Apple TV up to that with an HDMI to minidisplayport or (possibly) Thunderbolt adapter. (See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3924 for Target Display Mode specifics)
But I would have to question the value in that, since you could buy a decent comparable sized flat screen TV for 1/5th the price of that iMac.
If your goal is to watch media content on your iMac, you would almost certainly be better off doing it using the Front Row application, or setting up iTunes to display fullscreen content and control it from your iOs device with the App Store's "Remote" program.

  • I seem to have multiple problems related or unrelated.  I cannot use Apple Mail for blueyonder and mostly for gmail as both show that the server is off line.  My pop up blocker doesn't work and I am blitzed with pop up windows on nearly every command

Firstly I am unable to use Apple mail except for hotmail, for blueyonder, gmail or Sky as the server shows as (off line) and I have no idea how to get them on line even though I tell them to go there.
My pop up blocker doesn't work and I am blitzed with advertising windows virtually on ever command I make, one seems to be impossible to unsubscribe from.
When I am in an email with a web link the web link doesn't work and I get a window saying that I must have a pop up blocker, but if I switch it off it is no different, what does work is switching the "enable Java script off", then when I get to the web site I can't use it until I switch the java script back on.
I can't do a screen shot either full or partial, when I try it changes the web site that is on screen to another.
So what have I done that might have caused problems, downloading Yosemite seemed to be the start of the problems.  Since then I have started to install Mackeeper, after checking with a family members who should know, that MacPaw is safe.  I decided that I didn't want to pay the subscription, so went through the uninstall instructions but it comes up as a pop up with considerable regularity.
My stress levels have gone through the roof with pop ups happening so regularly and not being able to use Apple mail.o can anyone help please?

I cracked my screen. I want to use other monitor which I had one. I bought an Apple Mini-DP to VGA adapter. It worked. It means I can see ADDITIONAL screen. However I want to use this monitor for the main screen. How can I do?? Please help.

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and your background screen on the monitor. In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the monitor and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the monitor your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.

  • How do you get your tv to act as a monitor using apple tv?

Can you get your television to act as a monitor using Apple TV?

I presume you mean you want to view your computer screen on your TV by going through the Apple TV. Right now you can't do that but the next version of Mac OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, will allow Mac computers to mirror their computer screen on a TV connected to Apple TV.

  • Use 23" apple monitor as second monitor with 27" imac

I've just bought a 27" imac, and I want to connect the 23" apple monitor from my old system to it as a second monitor.
The 23" has a huge cable with firewire and usb connectors as well as a multipin connector. How can I link it up?

    Hello,
I have seen people use the expensive DVI-ADC converter with an MDP-> DVI cable.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-Mac-A1006-DVI-to-ADC-Converter-LCD-Display-Adapter -w-Power-Cord-/330799049978?
Cheaper ADC to DVI converter won't work.
Then you need an MDP to DVI adapter...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/B/mini-displayport-to-dvi-adapter
DVI single link 60-Hz LCD can display a resolution of 1920 x 1200.

  • What is  the maximum no. of apple tv players 2nd gen that users on forum have successfully used on home sharing off a 1gb network.

The maximum no. of 2nd generation apple tv players that have been successfully used in home sharing mode on a 1gb or 100mb network????

Apple TV is by it self in a category.
With Apple TV 1 the limit was 5 Apple clearly stated that. The reason? Probably because the Apple TV 1 had a hard drive and was able to store content locally (quite a bit actually). This would make it more in line with authorized devices.
You authorized device limit is 5 but this does not pertain to home sharing again something different.
When you play content from an Apple TV you are streaming from an authorized device and as long as you have the same iTunes account on that Apple TV as the iTunes you are connecting to you will be ok.
Now to the error. I have also had this error and I had it on a network with only 1 Apple TV connected and it is since iTunes 11. It seems every time Apple updates iTunes it has a bad effect on Apple TV. So I would not relate this error to the number of Apple TV's you have, every time I get this error I restart the Apple TV and its fine again.
On a side not I used to run MANY Apple TV's off my xserver. I had my families homes networked with VPN. I would prefer to not say how many but it was quite a few. biggest problem there was multicast over VPN....whole other story.
