  • Using Apple TV as display for MacBook

Is there any way for me to use my Apple TV to display what I see on my macBook wirelessly to my flat screen TV? I have a 1TB Time Capsule as well if that helps.

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums
No way as far as I'm aware I'm afraid.

  • Using Apple TV to display my desk top on my laptop

I had hoped I could use my flat screen tv as my computer screen for presentations I would normally do I my laptop. I thought Apple TV would allow me to do this but I don't see anything in the menu that might allow it. Does anyone have any thoughts how to do this? I have tried cables but have not had much success.

Unfortunately you cannot use the tv to display your mac/pc desktop on your tv, nor can you use keynote or powerpoint presentations in their native format, you could however export them to a movie file using an appropriate compression for the tv.

  • Airport Express Problems when using Apple 27 " cinema display with Macbook

I have recently got an apple cinema 27" display and when I connect it to my macbook and wake the computer up I cannot connect to the airport network. I can connect to wlan-ap, whatever that is, but my wifi barely sees my network. When I re-awaken the computer in normal mode, without he cinema display, the network can be connected to easily. Also, when I run the airport utility while using the cinema screen, you cannot see the airport express, but without the screen, you can.
This is a weird wifi problem,=.
    Any help is appreciated.

    This is known to happen:

Try a different broadcast channel on the wireless router.

  • Using Apple's Preview displays a sharper picture

I'm not sure where to post this topic because it really concerns Photoshop Elements 3.0, but hear goes.
I normally use iPhoto 6.0 to organize my photos and have Elements 3.0 set as the default editing tool. In the past this has worked great, but during the past few months I have noticed that my pictures on screen don't look as sharp in Elements as they once used to. The final output to paper or DVD still looked great, so I never gave it much thought at least until this past weekend.
That's when I opened a new picture accidentally using Apple's Preview program. Wow, was I surprised because the picture just downloaded from my camera looked fantastic. It was sharp, bright and had great detail. I then opened it using Photoshop Elements 3.0 and was quite disappointed with the results. The picture had slightly less detail and was not as sharp and the colors were not as saturated.
When I first bought Elements 3.0, I was using Panther and I remember my pictures looking great. The only thing I changed between then and now was upgrading to Tiger in early summer. After upgrading to Tiger I reinstalled all my third party software from the original disks.
So why do my pictures look poorer in Elements when compared to Apple's Preview? Could I have changed something or do I need to make a change?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Keith

What was the answer Keith? I'd be interested to know.

  • Any suggestions on using apple TV to display signage in a building

We have several old flat screens we would like to repurpose in the building for signage. Any suggestions on how we can use apple tv to deliver this content? software requirements?

The simplest method would be to use the screensaver. Initially you would need to use your computer to create a small photo album with the slides in and share them using homesharing to the Apple TV. The Apple TV is able to hold a small number of photographs in memory and so once you have set this up you don't really need your computer again unless you need to update the slides.
Selecting a classic slideshow from the screensaver options, will give you access to both simple transitions and the ability to change the slide duration.

  • Flash media (youtube, video, etc) won't play when using Apple TV Airplay Display

I have a new Apple Tv. I have connected it to my tv and am using the tv as a second display from my iMac. The display works just fine, but if I try and play any flash based media, say a Youtube video, on my iMac while Airplay is on, it won't play.
Mind you, it isn't that I am not getting audio, it just won't play the video at all. I can even see the progress bar load fully, but it doesn't begin playing.
The second I turn Airplay off, the video will play.
This also happens with sites such as Soundcloud, and Tumblr audio posts.
    Any ideas?

I connect to Airplay Display, I select apple tv, and either mirror display or extended desktop. Doesn't matter which, both have the problem.
Then, on my imac I try to play a video and it does not work. I can even hit play on a video, let it go, and THEN turn on Airplay and it will stop playing as soon as I do.

  • Using apple tv to display my desktop on my tv?

I dont want to hack my apple tv, i don't do those sort of things, ( jailbreaks and chipping games consoles) but is there some way or does anybody know if there might be the possibility that i can sit browsing safari on my macbook on the sofa click the airplay icon and view it on my flat screen tv obviously using the macbooks keyboard to navigate etc?
I'm no genius but i don't see any reason this cant be accomplished!?
Or even browse safari in the same manner using safari from my iphone or ipad? This would make me VERY happy!

Sorry but unfortunately this cannot be done. Your best bet is a cable direct from your laptop to the TV.

  • Is it possible to use Apple TV to display what I am viewing or listining to on my Macbook Pro?

    Morning folks-
Curious if streaming music from any other player other than iTunes is possible? I listen to a ton of www.panicstream.com which features 90+% of all Widespread Panic shows going back to the mid 80's......as well as, recorded live streams from many other bands from AC/DC to ZZ Top.....fabulous free website for any music fan......If someone told me that it was possible it would make my day!! Blessed day to all!
    Thanks!

    No it's not possible.
Airplay works with iTunes and on iOS devices, so you wont be able to use it for websites on your MBP.
While Mirroring will be possible with iOS 5 your MBP won't run iOS 5.
Mirroring is possible from your MBP using an appropriate cable but it doesn't require an Apple TV.

  • Using Apple remote with macbook display closed

    Hi ,
I have a macbook connected to LCD TV with HDMI connection .
Is there a way to use Apple remote with display closed .
examples of using apple remote with display closed would be
    (1) waking the macbook with apple remote
    (2) putting the macbook to sleep with apple remote
    (3) Shutting down the macbook with apple remote
    (4) accessing front row (using LCD TV as Display )
while doing this should I connect the macbook to power source.
please point me to any documentation / solutions available .
I don't have any external keyboard or mouse connected to macbook . I just want to use Apple remote to do the above functions .
    Thanks

    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi suresh,
    as mentioned here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86286
    and
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300562
you must have to have a keyboard or mouse to trigger the macbook wake up from sleep when you close the lid.
usb mouse is not that expensive and you can start with that.
    Good Luck

  • Will the Apple 30 Inch display work with my MacBook pro? Confused!!

    Hi all,
thinking of getting a used Apple 30 inch display to go with my MBP, but not sure if it will work at the correct resolution. Ive read you need a Duel Link DVI cable, but I have Thunderbolt not mini-display port. My MBP is early 2011 (think), so I am really confused. The 27 Incher with thunderbolt would be good too, but they are too expensive for me.
Graphics card is AMD Radeon HD 6490M, 16mb RAM. 10.6.8.
I would really appriciate any advice !
    Thank you all in advance,
    Bish.

I am replying to my own post here, but i have made excellent progress and wanted to let any other viewers in the same boat, know the solution.
Basically, the Duel Link DVI cable from Apple (£70 / $99) is the bad boy that works. My confusion was Thunderbolt, but apparently Thunderbolt IS ALSO a DVI port ! So, buy the 30 incher on Ebay or off a mate, and BANZAI ! done. Glorious res of about 2560x1600pixels is awesome!
The only downside here is that it might be too big LOL !!!!
    Good luck all

  • Apple HD Cinema Display not working

Hello everyone, I bought a used Apple HD Cinema Display a few months ago and I have been using it with no problems in Leopard with my white macbook (late 2007). I have recently installed XP using bootcamp (the display was not connected at the time of install) and now I am unable to get the display to work in XP. All I get is a black screen. Can anyone help me with this please? Are there any drivers that I may need to install in XP to allow it to work?
    Thanks!

I am having this same issue. Im not sure if this is the cause but I think this is keeping PowerDVD Ultra 11 from playing back Bluray under Windows 7 / Bootcamp
