Using AppleTV on HDTV, while still using computer for other programs

So, here's what i want to do...i want to use AppleTV in lieu of cable television, as i don't watch enough TV to warrant the cost of digital cable.
Sooooo... i want to be able to watch online content on my HDTV, connected to my home theater, but still use my MacMini to use other programs. Basically, i want all my video content to go directly to my HDTV (youtube, Hulu, an other videos streamed directly from websites, such as comedycentral.com), while keeping my desktop monitor solely for the use of other programs (iLife, iWork, photoshop, etc).
Is this a possible feat? I know if i use websites like ComedyCentral's to watch Daily Show & Colbert, it will have to go through my MacMini (i assume), but can it then be sent directly to my HDTV, and NOT have the video output go to my monitor?

Well, i appreciate your reply, but the very first line in my question asks, "I want to use AppleTV in lieu of cable..." and then i go on to ask whether AppleTV can do what i need. I'm not sure where else to ask a question about what AppleTV can do, than under the AppleTV support section.
Was there a different place i should put a question about AppleTV?

To enable a second display over AirPlay, you first need to be connected to the same network as your Apple TV. Next, open System Preferences > Displays, and select your Apple TV from the “AirPlay Display” drop-down menu.
Once you do this, your display may flash as the second display connection is acquired, and the Apple TV takes over as the second display. If the displays are mirrored, then you can correct this by opening the “Arrangement” tab in System Preferences > Displays, and ensuring that the “Mirror Displays” checkbox is unchecked.

You need to delete here conversation and start another one using her phone number and not her Apple ID. You cannot delete iMessage, you can disable it. If the Apple server still sees her iPod with iMessage on and using her Apple ID, then it will continue to appear to your phone that she has iMessage. She needs to take a look at this support document about permanently disabling iMessage for her account. Can’t receive text messages on a non-Apple phone

Using SSH as a secure channel for other programs

Hi,
I'm wondering if it's possible to use an SSH connection as a generic secure channel for other programs. I want to write a server-client program where I can open up an SSH channel first and then have the server and client communicate over it. If there is some other way to communicate via a secure channel and using SSH-like users and keys that would be great too.

Command button opens mission control, so I can't use it for other shortcuts

I have only had my macbook air for a few weeks, and I think I may have fiddled with settings before I had any clue what I was doing, as now every time I press the command key, it opens mission control, and I can't use command for other shortcuts... I am having this issue, too, and Keyboard Shortcuts doesn't fix it, as I have not assigned Command to anything. It just states at the bottom "for additional choices press Shift, Control, Option, or Command," but doesn't seem to allow me to change these. Do you know of a way?

I figured out that if you remove the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist file and restart, that restores the keyboard.
Second question: Is there any way to make F4 (without holding fn) bring up Dashboard on Lion that doesn't require FunctionFlip? If it matters, I have a Time Machine backup of the symbolichotkeys.plist file from when I had the older keyboard.

Use drive for other things

If I use an external hard drive for time machine, can I also use it for other things? I ask because I have a 500gb internal, and I'm debating on the 500 lacie or 1000 lacie. Obviously I only need the 500 for time machine, but I'm thinking additional space could be useful now that I have a HD video camera. Granted, I dont shoot a lot of movies, but HD does take up some storage. Any advice?

Before using the HDD for TM backups, create another partition for your other storage needs. Use the 1st partition for TM backups in case you need to expand into the 2nd partition. The TM partition should be 2-3X the contents you are backing up. TM is NOT a clone, therefore the size of the backup will grow.

If you buy it directly from apple as unlocked yes. I know some places sell "unlocked" phones that lock to the first network you connect them to. Your best bet is to buy directly from apple.

Make sure your Project has the focus. You cannot Share an Event.

I use I cloud for my contacts, etc. but want to use computer for music.

I use the I cloud for my contacts etc., but don't want to use it for music and movies. But when I manually try to sink the iphone, it says it will erase the content and replace it with the new content on my work computer. Will this destroy all info or just the music?

For me all of my data and backups are done through iCloud, but it still lets me sync to iTunes no prob. I would turn off Music and anything else you want on the iCloud menu on the iPhone, and then when you plug in to iTunes instead of saying iCloud backup say Computer backup.

Lumia 800 uses computer for headset

When i am sitting by my computer, and my lumia 800 recieves a call, i automaticaly take the call and uses my computer for headset, via the bluetooth-connection. I there a way to turn this on/off? Most of the time, it's just anoying :-(

You do not need to keep a Bluetooth pairing active for other things like a file transfer, those connections can be indicental as required..

Using Airtunes for other things than iTunes?

Hi,
Is it possible to use my Airport Express, which is connected to speakers around the house, for other sounds than just from iTunes? So I can hear different sounds from all applications as though it were my built in speakers I was using?

yes it is possible. ABAP still supports the dynamic assign althought no official documentation on this is available.
I'm not on system now, so take the following sample and adapt to your needs.

Although the SAP docu said that it is for internal use and may be changed in the future it still works fine for all global structures, variables and even global internal tables.

Firefox regularly hangs after an unspecified period of use, and causes other programs to hang, and a forced system shutdown is necessary.

The firefox browser hangs after an unspecified period of time. Anything from a few minutes after system startup, up to 5-6 hours of use or perhaps more. Attempting to use other programs including windows explorer while firefox is hanging causes those programs to hang also, making a forced shutdown necessary. Occaisionally I've noticed firefox will respond, perhaps after 10 or more minutes. There seems to be no hard disk activity while the program hangs. Memory usage of firefox on my system is usually upwards of 190,000.

I have circumvented this mostly by running internet explorer, and using Firefox only for browsing when I need to make use of it's addons. In this way I've had the problem re-occur maybe once or twice in the past two weeks. It's not really a solution but it does seem to help, and I'm no longer sure the problem IS firefox but using it certainly exacerbates the problem.
I've only just updated to firefox 6, so I am not entirely sure how that will go just yet.
