Using Application - Specific Upgrade tools

Hi,
This is in refrence to point 3.25 of the ECC 6.0 SR1 upgrade document (Relevant text is below).  Is this step really required to be performed?  Can a Basis resource do it independently or will require ABAP/Functional help?  If we ignore this step, how will it impact the upgraded system?  If we have to run this step, at what stage we have to do it?
Any insights would be helpful.
Thanks & Regards,
Abdul

Application-Specific Upgrade Toolbox
The application-specific upgrade toolbox (ASU toolbox) provides you with application-related upgrade guides and tools:
n Application-specific upgrade guides
These upgrade guides contain collections of known application-specific upgrade problems together with
the related SAP Notes, which saves you the time when searching for SAP Notes on SAP Service Marketplace.
n Automatic repair toolbox
This tool automatically starts application-specific repair and conversion programs.
n Additional repair toolbox
This program contains tools that assist you in adjusting customer data to the new release. Particularly
useful is the variant restore tool that can adjust the report variants to the new interfaces of the reports. In
the past, a lot of variants had to be created again, without giving you the option of displaying the old values.
For more information, see SAP Note 623723.
=== End of section ===

The ASU toolbox is a mixture of Basis and application.
The way you can go would be
- upgrade a test system
- let the modules have a look if they need parts from the toolbox
- upgrade production
- run the parts that are necessary
Since this is implementation dependent a general advice can´t be given. On our upgrade from 4.6c to 4.7 we needed only five of the given tools, your mileage may vary.

  • Why not use application specific multicast listener in  appserver cluster

    Hello Friends,
I am using oracle9iAs. we have basically two enterprise application. and often they communicate to each other, currently we have message bean sending a message with is nothing more than 2 integer values. The second application uses these two integers to update specific data cache.
First of All I am not aware or have come across any documentation on JMS clustering in Oralce9iAS. they still are very much behind Weblogic interms of feature implementation, If I wrong correct me here.
Now coming to my requirement, we are clustering application servers now and I need to be able to send messages to all
the servers in the cluster, lets say message generated by server 1 and application A to Application B on all other servers in cluster including the host.
well My dilemma is I want to use JMS but How to subscribe to different topics on cluster if topic is not only cluster able,.. if topics themselves running in clustered servers are not clustered.
so the easiest way for me to do this is to use a Multicast Listener on Application B on all the servers in the cluster and send message to it. well I know I will using socket here,... but I do also have control over transaction scope, this message is only sent upon successful completion of transaction on Application A.
now I ask my question. In this situation do things is there any risk that I am taking by using MulticastListner in my app?
your thoughts and ideas are appreciated
    Thanks
    Jay

Scrap JMS. Use plain java.net or JINI.
You could create a Peer-to-Peer Chain:
    Server A -> Server B -> Server C -> Server A
On each Server have a server listening for messages (from the Server to the left in the chain) and a client that sends messages (to the Server to the right in the chain) and an application that links the server and client on each Server.
    So,
Server A's "server" listens for messages from the "client" on Server C, and so on.
This is vary efficent. A simple send-receive chain that is clusterd within a small (or large) group of Servers. You could also try Bi-Directional Parallel Communications BDPC. That would basically have Server A send messages to both Servers - one to the left and one to the right, then at the same time, listen for messages from the Server on the left and the Server on the right. This is better suited for large-scale clusters where a Uni-directional communications model would take too long to propogate messages to every member of the group.
    But, that's just me.

  • How do I use a MessageSelector with application-specific properties

According to a couple of JMS references (Sun, Oreilly) and the oracle documentation (under the heading "Using Oracle Java Messaging Service (JMS) to Access AQ", page 102 of 1082 , Application Developers Guide - Advanced Queuing, Release 2 (8.1.6))
    Standard JMS Features
"Message selection based on message header fields/properties"
Is there a special syntax for using application-specific (user defined) JMS message properties as message selectors in Oracle 8.1.7?
I've tried to create a message selector based on a custom property that I set, i.e. "username != 'William'". (example from O'Reilly JMS book, pg. 44)
I always get a JMS-159: Invalid selector Selector Parse error unless the property is a JMS-Defined property. i.e., " JMSMessageID = 'ID:9789D65E215B3613E034080020B1456E' " works fine.
From the docs and the oter examples, I figure application-specific (user-defined) properties are legal.
Thans for any help in advance.

Well I found an article in another forum that states in oracle 8i, message selectors are only supported on JMSCorrelationID and JMSMessageID
(9i will have/has the full JMS spec support for message selectors , or so the response to the message says)
    Thanks anyway

  • UCCX 5.0 - 8.0 using pre-upgrade tool

    Hi,
We're upgrading from 5.0(2) to 8.0. We've used the Pre-Upgrade Tool to create a TAR file on the production UCCX. From the replacement server we've selected "Upgrade from a previous UCCX release". The Pre-Upgrade Tool ran without issue and the log file shows no errors.
The status message shows: "Enter a valid backup file"
We know the sftp server is setup correctly and the user credentials are correct.
    Any feedback welcome.Many thanks.

The Pre-Upgrade Tool also have the option to verify the backup file. Try running the verification and see if it works:
    (page 16 - Upgrade guide)
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/crs/express_8_0/installation/guide/uccx801ig.pdf
Also what are the exact UCCX versions 5.0(2) SR? and going to 8.0(1) or 8.0(2)? there is one upgrade tool for 8.0(1) and another for 8.0(2), make sure you are running the right one.

  • Upgrade IDSM2 from 4.1(5)S225 to 5,1 using application partition

can i upgrade an IDSM2 (WS-SVC-IDSM2-BUN)in a 6513 from 4.1(5)S225 to 5.1 by copying the 5.1 application partition to the sensor
    [from the cisco userguide]
Chapter 10 Configuring the Sensor Using the CLI
    Reimaging Appliances and Modules
    Reimaging the IDSM-2
This section contains the following topics:
    • Catalyst Software, page 10-124
    • Cisco IOS Software, page 10-126
    Catalyst Software
To reimage the application partition, follow these steps:
Step 1 Obtain the application partition file from Software Center on Cisco.com and copy
    it to an FTP server.
Step 2 Log in to the switch CLI.
Step 3 Boot the IDSM-2 to the maintenance partition:
    cat6k> (enable) reset module_number cf:1
Step 4 Log in to the maintenance partition CLI:
    login: guest
    Password: cisco
Step 5 Reimage the application partition:
    [email protected]# upgrade ftp://user@ftp server IP/directory
    path/image file
Step 6 Specify the FTP server password.
After the application partition file has been downloaded, you are asked if you
    want to proceed:
Upgrading will wipe out the contents on the hard disk. Do you want to
    proceed installing it [y|n]:
Step 7 Type y to continue.
When the application partition file has been installed, you are returned to the
    maintenance partition CLI.
Step 8 Exit the maintenance partition CLI and return to the switch CLI.
Step 9 Reboot the IDSM-2 to the application partition:
    cat6k> (enable) reset module_number hdd:1
Step 10 When the IDSM-2 has rebooted, check the software version.
Step 11 Log in to the application partition CLI and initialize the IDSM-2.
See Initializing the Sensor, page 10-2, for the procedure.
IF NOT, THEN IS THERE A SHORT CUT FROM 4.1 to 5.1 ?

Just wanted to clarify some things.
As Scott has already confirmed you can re-image using the method described and following Scott's advice on what additional updates to install.
BUT understand that any configuration you have your 4.1 sensor will be lost during that method of re-imaging to 5.1.
Another alternative is to first upgrade from 4.1(5)S225 to 5.0(1), and then to upgrade to 5.1(1).
The upgrade to 5.0(1) will convert the 4.1 configuration into a compatible 5.0 format.
I saw another post you made implying that you had to downgrade back to 4.1(5)S189 to do the 5.0(1) upgrade. This is not the case. You can upgrade directly from your current 4.1(5)S225 to 5.0(1).
You can install the IPS-K9-maj-5.0-1-S149.rpm.pkg file directly on your current 4.1(5)S225 sensor.
When S225 was installed on your 4.1(5) sensor, it also placed in storage the corresponding S225 update for your 5.0 sensor.
So when IPS-K9-maj-5.0-1-S149.rpm.pkg is installed on the sensor it will detect that stored off S225 for 5.0 and install it at the same time.
So once installed you will be immediately at 5.0(1)S225.
Once at 5.0(1)S225, then you can upgrade directly to 5.1(1) using the IPS-K9-min-5.1-1d.pkg upgrade.
(NOTE: 5.1-1d file was created to fix some upgrade bugs, but still installs the same 5.1(1) files as the original 5.1(1) upgrade package).
So you will wind up at 5.1(1)S225.
Now at this point I would recommend installing at least one later signature update (S226 or higher in your case) BEFORE installing the 5.1(1p1) patch.
And AFTER the signature update, then install the 5.1(1p1) Engineering Patch (contact the TAC for this patch).
Because of this specific upgrade path, the best way to avoid some issues is to install at least one signature update before installing the 5.1(1p1) patch. The signature update helps to ensure the sensor is ready for the 5.1(1p1) upgrade. Some of the files needed for the 5.1(1p1) upgrade have been seen to not get carried forward properly in the upgrade from 5.0(1) to 5.1(1), but a signature update corrects those issues.
NOTE: This precaution of installing the signature update BEFORE the 5.1(1p1) is only needed when upgrading from 5.0(1) to 5.1(1). If imaging directly to 5.1(1) using the maintenance partition, then the 5.1(1p1) can be installed before a signature update without an issue.
Once 5.1(1p1) is up and running and monitoring packets and generating alarms, then additional signature updates can be installed afterwards.

  • Db2 homogenous system copy using DB specific tools.

    Hi,
I'm currently doing a homogenous system copy using db specific tools option (DB2). I did an offline backup of the source system using db2 backup database command, then ran SAPinst (NW70SR2) on the source system to go through the export phase, no problem. On the destination system, I ran SAPinst (NW70SR3) to do the import phase and reached a point where SAPinst asked me to restore the database using db2 tools. I running command:
    RESTORE DATABASE <SID> FROM "E:\backup_folder" TAKEN AT 20090617164332 TO "Q:" INTO <SID> NEWLOGPATH "F:\" WITH 2 BUFFERS BUFFER 1024 PARALLELISM 1 WITHOUT PROMPTING;
After running this command I get SQL0902C  A system error (reason code = "") occurred.  Subsequent
    SQL statements cannot be processed.
    sqlcode: -902
    sqlstate: 58005
Some background information: I'm running this procedure to do a migrate the database from a 32 bit to 64 bit.
Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to run any other commands or prep on the detination system before running the restore command?

One other thing you might have wanted to check was the physical memory on the target machine. Does the target have the same amount of memory as the source? If it is much smaller, sometimes there can be issues with starting up the database on the smaller machine. There is an instance level registry setting you can use to reduce the amount of bufferpool memory the database wants to use.
Another issue I have seen is that you may want to restore a 32-bit backup to a 32-bit instance. You can then upgrade then instance and database to 64-bit.
EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realize this thread was 2 months old.

    Thanks Mark
I'll proceed with the import & inform you about the outcome
My QAS system is the transport domain controller i.e. it hosts the transport directory /usr/sap/trans
What happens to pending transports after system copy ? Is there a way I can retain them or do I have to advice my users to complete pending requests so that I can import all of them before proceeding .
what happens to the CUA configurations in my 3 tier system landscape after I overwrite QAS ? I will make a note of all the RFC's & thier configuration details just incase I need to recreate them

  • Is there a Apple tool to check THe installed applications by upgrading to os X Mavericks?

I like to know the following:
    - Are there issues I have to know when I decide to upgrade too OS X Mavericks?
    - Has Apple a tool I can use to Check my installed applications before upgrading too Os X Mavericks?
( Microsoft has a tool named Windows7Upgrade advisor what tells my exacty after running the program: Hardware Okay - Yes or no and what is not and also for each applicationprogram)

    Doubts?
Why we are using Application upgrade assistance in the case of apps up-gradation from 11i to R12, whenever up-gradation assistance don not upgrade database and all custom form and reports. It will install new Tech Pack.
    Please clear my doubts.

  • Windows 8 free upgrade tool for model VPCF226FM

Hi everyone I used before to download the free upgrade tool from support website, where it helped me to uninstall incompitable drivers/tools/utilities and re-install them later after upgrading to Windows 8 I am not able to find that tool anymore and downloading/installing drivers one by one is not working fine. I have removed power management & Vaio control center and re-installed more than dozen time and still have same issue as unable to use FN keys to control brightness

    Hi athensguy,
Thank you for considering Sony Community!
I am not sure what specific application you used before but all drivers and software that is compatible with your machine are listed on eSupport website. If you are refereeing to the upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8, please visit this link: Windows® 8 Upgrade Instructions for VAIO® PCs
If your main issue is the function key (Fn), you may follow these steps to troubleshoot the laptop.
Power Cycle - Remove the battery and all peripherals -> press and hold the power button for 5 seconds
    Reset BIOS.
Got o Device Manager -> Keyboards -> right click Keyboard driver -> Uninstall (DO NOT DELETE) -> restart the laptop. The driver will be reinstalled.
Download or update all the drivers from eSupport website.
For further assistance, we kindly recommend visiting our Sony Global Web site for information on contacting the Sony Support Center in your region at http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/.
    Hope these help.
    Thanks,

  • Why can't I use the Basic brush tool?

I'm learning the ropes of drawing in Illustrator and I've fallen at the first hurdle. Why can't I use the Basic brush tool? Whenever I select the brush tool and use the 'Basic' brush type, the cursor turns into a hashed circle indicating I can't draw. If I load other brushes, I can draw with other brush types, but I can't use the Basic one. If I select the Basic brush when I have other brushes loaded and try to draw with it, it always defaults to a different brush! I don't understand why.
On a related matter, I'm also having trouble changing brush size. I know that using the [ and ] keys changes brush size, but I have no idea what the values are. If I try this in Photoshop, I can see the brush size in the Options bar, but in Illustrator it doesn't appear anywhere! Not in the Brushes palette, the Stroke palette or the Appearance palette. Where can I see the brush size?

    Glitcher,
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • HT5037 What is the iPhoto Library Upgrader tool?  Should not need it, because installed Photo 9.5.1 three days ago, AND my iphoto will not open. The message says if I have v8.x or later, I don't need this tool.

Why is my iPhoto 9.5.1 blocked?
Message on pop up screen says I need the Library Upgrader tool, when in the very discription of it: "If your library is from iPhoto (v8.x) or later, you don't need to use this tool."

What version of iPhoto did you have prior to upgrading to iPhoto 9.5.1?  The following is from this download page: iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1
This tool prepares libraries from iPhoto 7 or earlier so they can be upgraded with the current version of iPhoto.
So if you previous version of iPhoto was 7 or earlier you need to download (it installs in the Applications/Utilities folder), launch and apply it to your iPhoto Library before opening the library with iPhoto 9.5.1.
