Using AR 10.1.3, selecting .PDF results in a black page.

I use an imac 10.6.8.  After the latest upgrade to 10.1.3, whenever I select a .pdf file to view the result is a completely black page, no vertical or horizontal scroll bars.  I can view previously saved .pdf files.  What do I do?

  • In Safari, opening a web-based pdf results in a black page?

Whn I am using Safari which is  the default browser on my IMAC, opening a web-based pdf results in a black page? This does not happen when using firefox. Also does not happen when opening an emailed pdf.

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

I converted a 253 page document from Word 2010 to pdf using Adobe Professional 8.  The pdf fike only had 251 pages.  Why?

Word documents don't have a fixed page layout; Word reflows freely if it wants. This isn't normally a problem unless things like typing page numbers is done; avoid that.

  • All PDF print as completely black pages.  I can read the PDF fine.  This is true on any printer.

All PDF print as completely black pages.  I can read the PDF fine.  This is true on any printer.
A google search shows others have had this problem, but I have not seen a solution posted.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat, without help.  I'm wondering if this is a registry problem.
I saw some post that referred to a stuck switch of print colors as black, but I know nothing about this.
    Please help!

I am using a Mac (all software latest version - Mt. Lion and Safari as web browser).  I see this exact problem but NOT with all PDFs.  As you might not know, PDF creation is built-into all Macs and I do NOT have a problem with any of those, nor has anyone complained to me about those.  Also, Macs have a bulit-in PDF viewer ("Preview") which also can NOT view the file correctly.  If I try to open the file once it has been stored on the desktop, Acrobat gives me an "incorrectly formatted PDF file" error.
My AMEX statement is unprintable and some other stuff that comes from our local school board, and other online sources.  (My suspicion is that these files are not perfectly formatted).
    Here was my work-around:
I use FIREFOX browser to retrieve the same PDF and it prints fine.
I, too, would LOVE to know why this is happening because it is annoying.

  • IPad Air- PDFs in Safari are black pages. How can I read them?

I've had my iPad Air a month, and couldn't open PDFs in Safari; they appeared as black pages. I downloaded Adobe Reader from the App store, but it made no difference. The advice given here all seems to relate to Mac OS, not iOS. The iPad is my only computer. I have deleted the Adobe Reader,  and I tried another free PDF reader, but the black pages persisted, so I deleted that reader too. PLEASE.PLEASE PLEASE can somebody help me read PDFs in Safari? Adobe were no help; there's nothing about PDFs in 'iPad for Dummies' or in the iPad User Guide. I'm at my wits end!

I did a reset, after deleting Adobe Reader AND iBooks, and then downloaded iBooks again from the App Store. This was on the advice of an Apple support advisor, who thought that the Adobe Reader was interfering with the  native iBook's ability to read the PDFs. THIS WORKED! Suddenly I could see PDFs and had a toolbar with 'open in ' options!
I hadn't realised that iBooks was Apple's own PDF reader, so I had thought that I needed to get Adobe Reader in order to see PDFs.
It does beg the question as to why things aren't explained better in user guides and manuals. Couldn't even find info on PDFs in 'iPad for Dummies'.
Anyway, thank you for the suggestion; it was certainly on the right track.

  • Opening PDF from browser gets black page with white message box containing question mark in blue circle and an OK box that does nothing

Both reader XI and acrobat pro 9 installed on computer.  Same error in both IE and Chrome.  Using 'save as' the document can be saved to desk top and opened from there.  There is a little flicker as if the document tried to open when black page first appears.

  • Opening a PDF results in a blank page

    Hello,
One of my clients is having problems opening PDF files on his machine.  When he tries to open up a PDF, Internet explorer will open a new blank window.  Refreshing does nothing.  However, sometimes it will open up the actual PDF.  (Maybe 1/10 attempts.)  I've tried this on my account and it also occurs.  I've tried reinstalling Adobe Reader, to no avail.  I've also gone in and removed all registry keys involving Adobe Reader before reinstalling.  Resetted internet explorer settings.  Set up Adobe Reader to not open PDFs in browser.  Nothing seems to be working.  My next step is to reinstall Internet explorer 7, but I've got a bit of red tape to go through before I can accomplish this.  In the meantime, does anyone have any advice?  Thank you.
My user is using Internet explorer 7, Adobe Reader 7.0.9 on Windows XP Pro.  Before anyone tells me to update and try again, All software must go through a thorough testing process.  No one has certified Reader 9.2 yet because 7 works just fine for our needs, so therefore upgrading is completely out of the question.  I have a very specific list of software I have available.
    Thanks,
    - Marshall

    Open a PDF from where:
    saved locally on the computer?
    from an online link?
If from an online link, I have seen the same before.  This usually occurs if the server where the document is located is very slow.  Retrying (F5) usually resolves the problem.
P.S. the latest secure version of Reader 7x is 7.1.4!

  • PDF creation causes rich black colors to shift

I'm designing a book cover. There are three main areas: front, back and spine. Each area has specified the default "black" color in the swatches panel. This color uses 100% K in the CMYK color space. In the preferences panel, under "appearance of black", I have checked to print and display blacks as rich black. Everthing looks great on the Indesign file. My blacks are as specified. Everything has been double-checked on the swatch panel to be set to this black color, which is a non-editable color (always remains 100% K on the CMYK setting). It has been displaying just fine on the file, as a rich black, no color shifting ever whatsoever until doing the following:
When I make a PDF using the "Export" window, I select PDF/x-1A as my printer specifies. I create the PDF, and open it, only to see that my blacks are being shifted to a shade of deep brownish black.
On the first few attempts, only two of the three areas specified above did this. ON the next attempts, all three areas look the same. This is weird. I'm very disappointed with the strange issues present in Indesign, as I am trained with Quarkxpress and find it to work flawlessly in comparison, especially with something like color output.
    What am I doing wrong?
When I change settings, for example, change the color management to "none" or leave it in the default for the PDFx/1-a, it doesn't make any difference in this glitch in the output.
    Help!
    Thanks.

The Appearance of Black setting to print all blacks as rich black ONLY affects printing or exporting to RGB devices (essentially printing to desktop printers or PRINTING to PDF with Composite RGB or Composite Grayscale selected). It has no effect at all on EXPORT to PDF.
    >I changed my 100%K only blacks to genuine rich blacks of 100%K 25%C 25%Y 25%M  and the problem is corrected.
You said this is a book cover. That implies that the output will be printed, not viewed on screen. For printed output it is ESSENTIAL that you set blacks to display accurately. You should also turn on Overprint Preview when judging color. You'll probably get away with your rich black in any type over 12 points or so where it might be applied, but it's generally not a great idea to use rich black for type in small sizes. Rich blacks also generally use slightly more cyan than yellow and magenta to compensate for ink impurities.
Do you have a high-end monitor? Is your monitor calibrated and profiled using a colorimeter? If not, you can forget what you see on screen. The odds that it is anywhere near accurate are similar to the odds of winning the lottery. Are you using the same color space in Acrobat as you are in ID? If you change the color space, the appearance of your colors will change.
When you export to PDF/X-1a you are converting everything to CMYK using a target color space. By default the conversion option is set to preserve numbers. If your imported art has an embedded profile that differs from the destination, that will be honored and color numbers will be changed to preserve the appearance of color, as much as possible taking into account different gamuts, and untagged imported art, along with native objects will all be presumed to be in the current working space in ID, and cmyk numbers for those objects will be preserved. If the destination space differs from the working space, thew appearance of these colors will shift, but 100% K native objects will continue to be 100% K in the PDF. A conversion to a destination that differs from the working space WITHOUT preserving numbers will result in 100% K being changed to a 4-color mix that mimics the appearance of 100% K output in the working space.
Knowing the destination space in advance is vital if you are doing a CMYK conversion. CMYK profiles are "device dependent" and CMYK-to-CMYK conversions are destructive, both in terms of potential loss of color (and you don't gain by going from a smaller to a larger gamut space) and conversion of solid colors to 4-color mixes which is particularly problematic for black type and thin rules.

  • Flash Website Results in Black Page (Chrome and IE)

I am attempting to load this website "TagHeuer eSAV" but it only results in a black page on my Chrome browser and in IE.  I have updated to the latest Flash version, verified that Flash in enabled in both browswers, but still get the same results.

I see the TagHeuer page render on both IE 11 and Chrome on Windows 7.  I did notice that it takes 6 seconds for the SWF to render anything.  You might want to check the content out with Adobe Scout (our profiler) to see if there's something you can do to speed things up.  It seems excessive for what it's actually doing.
For the Cuba site, it looks like one of your JavaScript libraries doesn't like the latest Chrome:
Execution halts before it even tries to load the SWF, so Flash Player isn't even getting invoked.
Bear71 in Chrome worked fine for me.  For Bear71 on IE11, it looks like IE is trying to show the ActiveX filtering dialog, but you have script that keeps retargeting the page between bear71.nfb.ca and bear71.nfb.ca/#/bear71, and the screen never stays put long enough for the user to authorize the ActiveX blocking prompt.  If I add the site to the Compatibility View settings on IE11, it works fine.  IE has changed a bunch of stuff in recent versions related to UA strings and how the browser identifies itself to JavaScript, and dropping support for conditional comments.  Any IE-specific JavaScript you had will probably need to be rewritten to align with Microsoft's new world view.

  • Using browser javascript to copy selected text from a pdf file opened in Air app.

I have posted this question on reader forum as well, but I think it is more suited here...
I am trying to create a note-taking application in air. I want to extract selected text from pdf file as a string object or to the clipboard.
Obviously, all pdfs in my local storage will not be scripted to recieve postMessages and act accordingly, and that is not practical either. So, my problem is, how can I copy the selected text in the pdf file (opened as an object in htmlloader within my Air app) to clipboard or directly in another control by say clicking a button in air application? I suppose, this is possible using javascript, however, I don't know which reader methods are exposed to the wrapper htmlloader control. In short, I want to execute app.execMenuItem("Copy") command through htmlloader javascript. Any alternate solutions are also welcome.
This is similar to passing inbuilt commands/methods/functions (of adobe reader) to pdf-reader plugin embedded in a webpage via javascript. This is possible in IE where the pdf is rendered as activex object, and hence JSObject interface of pdf document/reader is accessible to the browser javascript. I have also read that this same JSObject is accessible to VB as interface for IAC, so as the Air is Adobe's own product, I was wondering if equivalent of JSObject is accessible to htmlloader control as well.
    Thanks in advance...

Thank you Thom for your reply...
    from
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/javascript.html
...Through JavaScript extensions, the viewer application and its plug-ins expose much of their functionality to document authors, form designers, and plug-in developers...
As it is explicitly mentioned, that the functionality of adobe reader are exposed for plugin development, I thought someone here might have used external javascript to execute some safe methods in adobe reader. The functionality (i.e. external javascript interface-JSObject) is already available for VB programmers to develop IAC. Further, the Acrobat SDK example called "AcroPDFinHML" shows how one can embed a pdf-reader in a html page and execute some safe methods (like gotonextpage(), zooming etc.) in IE as ActiveX plugin. I have checked it myself for adobe reader 9, and it works perfectly, so there is no security issue as such to implement the same for another browser (like in my case, the htmlloader control in flex/air app).
I intend to create a note taking application in air, where it is very much required that I should be able to copy selected text from various pdf documents, that are open in my app, and subsequently paste/collect/save the collected notes and process them afterwords (offcourse, from the pdfs that allow me copying text). However, it is not happening for me here. As the pdfs are opened through adobe reader plugin, it does not register the copy command executed by my air app. It registers the system level copy command (by keyboard shortcut Ctrl+C), but my air app has no way to execute the system level copy command programmatically. So I am kind of stuck here...
Thanks again for your reply. Having known what am I intend to accomplish, any other (may be alternative) solutions will be appreciated nonetheless...

The problems I am having are: I cannot scroll using the side slider on downloaded PDF files, nor can I fill in fillable files.
