Using ARR to forward OWA requests to Exchange (On Premises) gives Server Error 502
I have been struggling to configure a Windows Essentials Experience and Exchange On Premises system for our company.
I have two hyper-v guest servers running Server 2012 R2, one with the Windows Essentials Experience role installed and one with Exchange 2013. After weeks of trying to get various parts of the configuration installed, following the various Microsoft
guides, I thought I had finally managed to do it but have failed, again, at the final hurdle.
Exchange is working and users can connect to OWA from inside the domain using the same URL as the external URL. However when accessed from the internet we get "502 - Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server."
I have tried to do some tracing in IIS but don't seem to get any results. Can anyone shed any light on how to resolve this issue so I don't have to tear any more of my hair out!
Thanks in advance
Hi RicoE,
On current situation, please go to
Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer and run a test, then monitor the result.
In addition, please refer to Post-installation tasks section in following article, then check if correctly
set up an on-premises server that is running Exchange Server on a Windows Server Essentials network.
Integrate an On-Premises Exchange Server
with Windows Server Essentials
Please also refer to following KB and check if can help you.
FIX: ARR does not route requests correctly when you use the
ARR module in IIS 7.0
By the way, please use the
Configuration Troubleshooter tool that Robert created to check IIS and Certificates.
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Justin Gu

Exchange Receive Connector Temporary Server Error. Please Try again later. PRX4
Hi ,
I installated Exchange server 2013 on Windows 2012 R2 Servers..
Topology ;
1 Active Directory Server : Windows 2012 r2 all updates installed.
1 Exchange 2013 Server : Windows 2012 r2 all updates installed.
I configured send Connector settings and I checked Receive connectors Default Frontend Exchange settings. Anonymous users is ok and don't have any problem.
When I send mail Exchange -> Internet mail goes. this is ok.
But when I send mail Internet -> Exchange I am getting this error ;

Thanks. Regards.Hi,
If the CAS and MBX servers are collocated on the same server the SMTP Receive connection for the Transport service will listen on 2525 instead of 25. This is because two services (FET and Transport Service) can’t listen on the same port.
Refer from this article:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/rischwen/archive/2013/03/13/exchange-2013-mail-flow-demystified-hopefully.aspx
Please try to create an endpoint for 2525 on default receive connector to test mail flow by the following steps:
EAC -> mail flow -> receive connectors -> Default EXCHANGE
Click Edit then click scoping tab.
Under Network adapter bindings, click
add button to create port 2525 for all available Ipv4/Ipv6 addresses.

Exchange 2013 using ARR reverse proxy OWA options won't open
Hi,
I've been using the exchange team's blog post (http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/08/05/part-3-reverse-proxy-for-exchange-server-2013-using-iis-arr.aspx)
as a guidelin on configuring my ARR deployment in my lab.
Everything was working perfectly right until i got the last part of the blog on restricting the pattern matches.
The rewrite rules all work fine and everything is working as expected with the excpetion of the fact that i cannot access the options in OWA. ECP itself works great if i access it via the
https://ecp.domain.com/ecp url, but as soon as i use the https//mail.domain.com/ecp it just wont display anything.
Looking at the failed request logs it just shows that it executes a 302 rewrite to ecp.domain.com, which is what i would expect it to base done rewrite rule matching
https://mail.domain.com/ecp to the ecp.domain.com server farm.
If i look at the iis logs it looks like it's getting into some sort of loop (the section below is about a 10% of a single attempt to access the options pages:
2014-06-28 12:25:38 xxx.xxx.xx.xxx GET /ecp/ rfr=owa&X-ARR-CACHE-HIT=0&X-ARR-LOG-ID=6983c585-b0ea-4fd0-9bb1-fc747ee8e992 443 - xxx.xxx.xx.xxx Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+7.0;+Windows+NT+6.2;+WOW64;+Trident/6.0;+.NET4.0E;+.NET4.0C)

Did anyone ever run into something like this? Or have an idea where i may have made a mistake? I've tried everything i could think of.
The rewrite rules i have in place are basically exactly the same as the exchange team's blog but just in case i overlooked somehthing, please se the image below.
thanks in advance for your timeHello,
I wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions on reverse proxy options that can do pre-authentication like TMG use to do? I am currently trying to deploy out a new Excahnge 2013 setup in coexistence with an existing Exchange 2010 environment
which will then be migrated over. And one of the requirements is to block certain users from accessing webmail externally while still allowing others to access webmail. That is currently achieved by using a TMG server but that is going to be decommissioned
along with Exchange 2010.
I have been searching online but so far I have not found anything that seemed to meet this requirement. I have seen that IIS Web Application Proxy tied in with AD FS would do the job. But there is some issue there with Excahnge 2010 still being active that
won't allow it to work. Some suggestions I have seen online involved changing permissions on the IIS directory or modifying web config files but those options didn't seem like they provided a consistent result.
So I am looking for some sort of option that is either inexpensive or some means of leveraging existing Microsoft technologies to achieve my goal any suggestions would be helpful.
Nicholas,
How about IIS ARR?

Logging of Forwarded HTTP Requests using RequestDispatcher in Weblogic
Can anyone help me on this?
Logging of Forwarded HTTP Requests using RequestDispatcher in Weblogic
Access Log File:
1. I have a servlet(S1) which decides which JSP to be published based on
some logic. If I try to forward the request from a servlet to a JSP or to
another servlet from within S1 using RequestDispatcher, it doesn't get
logged in the access log, only the initial request to S1 gets logged, when I
switch on HTTP logging by setting weblogic.httpd.enableLogFile to true. Is
there any way of logging this forwarding of request in the access log?
2. If there is no solution for (1), I woiuld like to make entries into the
access log file of weblogic in the common log format, when I forward a
request to a JSP or a servlet throught the RequestDispatcher, so that I can
use standard tools to analyze the logfile. The two issues with this are (i)
is there any weblogic service that gives a handle to the access log file
like the LogServicesDef which gives a handle to the weblogic log file. (ii)
Is there any utility class available that can format a URL pointing to a JSP
to a string confirming to the common log format. The log4j:ERROR messages are not coming from Log4j 2 and are most likely from Log4j 1.x. Somehow Log4j 1.x must be getting the log4j2 configuration.

Using Outlook Web App Web Parts in Exchange Server 2013 - OWA ? Possible?
Using Outlook Web App Web Parts in Exchange Server 2013 - OWA ? Possible?
We recently upgraded from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.
The links that used OWA Web parts have completely stopped working and generate the " :( something went wrong contact your help desk" screen for domain Authenticated users other than myself. The links accessed content of a Shared Account of which
I am an owner and can set the necessary permissions using the Outlook 2013 client.
Using the example from the link provided below we were able to provide calendar access to all authenticated users in our area. The link for calendar still works for me but for noone else. Additionally, all navigation menus are missing when I use this link.
<server>/owa/<SMTP address>/?cmd=contents&module=calendar&view=weekly name
Another crafted link provided web access to our group's task list. This has completely stopped working for anyone including myself. However, when I use "open another mailbox" I am able to navigate to the needed pages.
<server name>/owa/<SMTP address>/?cmd=contents&module=tasks
These links were crafted using advice provided from this provided link.
technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232199(v=exchg.141).aspx
Is it still possible to use Outlook Web App Web Parts in Exchange Server 2013 - OWA?
Or
Is this a misconfiguration of some sort?
My IT support has given up and closed out the ticket stating that maybe Microsoft will fix this someday...Hello,
At present, there is no official article to verify whether we can use Outlook Web App Web Parts in Exchange Server 2013. In exchange online, the Outlook Web App Parts is supported.

Hi, you said this feature is supported in Exchange Online (I understand you're referring to Office 365). Can you please point me to some documentation as I was trying to use it with my E3 account and it doesn't seem to work?
What I'm trying to acomplish is something similar to our old URL (Exchange 2010) in Office 365:
https://ourserver.mydomain.com/owa/[email protected]/?cmd=contents&module=calendar&view=monthly
The best I can do in Office 365 is this:
https://outlook.com/owa/mydomain.com/[email protected]/#path=/calendar
But it's clearly not the same and Office 365 ignores all the information I add to the URL. I would greatly appreciate something in the line of the document referred by 'MarquetteENG' (technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232199(v=exchg.141).aspx)
Thanks.

Can't get OWA to work on Essentials 2012 R2 with Exchange 2013 on second server 2012 R2 std.
I have previously with success setup a working solution with server 2012 essentials, and a second server 2012 std. with exchange 2013, I did it following this guide: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj200172.aspx
Unfortunately I lost the server due to a cooling error which led to an un-repairable essentials 2012, since this was a new setup and also a test setup I didn't have any working backup solution setup at the time...tsk.tsk.
Since I had to make a complete do over I chose to try out the new R2 server editions, and set it up following the same guide, when it came to this part:
Download KB2732764 for ARR 2.5, and then install the update on the server that is running Windows Server 2012 Essentials.
Copy the SSL certificate file for Exchange Server to the server that is running Windows Server 2012 Essentials. The certificate file must contain the private key, and it must be in the PFX file format.
Note
If you are using a self-issued certificate, follow the instruction in the Exchange Server article Export an Exchange Certificate to export the certificate.
Open a command window as an administrator, and then open the %ProgramFiles%\Windows Server\Bin directory.
Based on you installation scenario, follow one of these steps to configure ARR:
If you are performing a clean setup, run the following command:
ARRConfig config –cert “path to the certificate file” –hostnames “host names for Exchange Server”
I noticed that the version of "Application request routing" had changed to version 3, so obviously I didn't need to dl the 2.5 update.. When I came to the part where I wa instructed to run arrconfig config etc. I noticed
that the ARRconfig file no longer where placed where the setup guide indicated, I then went ahead and tried som manual configuration regarding certificates and such. In the end I have a working solution where Exchange and OWA is working locally but OWA isn't
working outside my local domain, the link get's placed in the RWA and is indicating the correct link for the exchange server www.remote.clinten.dk I have a certificate which include to separate domain names aforementioned and remote.clinten.dk and
I get no errors indicating certificate errors, when I try to connect to www.remote.clinten.dk/owa from outside I get a 404 error, and when I connect to www.remote.clinten.dk I get the RWA login screen for the essentials RWA. Obviously I need to set up something
in ISS probably in the url rewrite section, but I can't seem to find the right setting.. Can someone help with this?
Btw. I have found the missing arrconfig file in c:\windows\system32\essentials" and tried to run the command as described in the guide "ARRConfig config –cert “path to the certificate file” –hostnames “host
names for Exchange Server”" but it doesn't seem to work, it just prompts with a guide for using the arrconfig command and examples of correct use, I also tried removing the "" from the guide, like this "ARRConfig
config –cert path to the certificate file –hostnames host names for Exchange Server",
when I ran it without the "" It didn't prompt me with anything nor did It indicate any errors, it did not however make my OWA work either..
I am aware that exchange 2013 atm. isn't officially supported on the R2 server, but the exchange works fine inside my domain, and the pop3/smtp also works from outside, since this Is a test environment, using only my own private domain and not a company
domain I figured it would be ok to run the risk.. ;)Hi
found this on
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/1f099068-b3ed-44f3-a8c4-c22d760a8621/arr-broken-or-bad-syntax-exchange-2013-essentials-2012-r2?forum=winserveressentials
"Ok just an update for anyone else how has this issue.
The problem has been solved by Microsoft and I have included their findings below, but basically it comes down to a typo!
I often use notepad to have all the commands I need on hand, and I must have copied the command direct from the TechNet article or other website and customised the required fields. The issue with this is one of the characters did not “convert” - for want
of a better word. I should have retyped the whole command from scratch and it would have been right!
Thanks for everyone’s input and for Microsoft for getting to the bottom of it.
From Microsoft:
We have tested on your environment and here is the investigation result from our senior engineer:
================================================================
Basically the command fails due to invalid parameter, the invalid one is the ‘-‘. I think the one customer used is copied from the online document sample which translate to the unicode is 0x8211 means “en dash”, it
can’t be input by normal keyboard, so I pretty sure it is from web (mostly HTML document).
The one we check (compare) is ‘-‘ which has the code 0x45.
So it always failed to compare the parameter and ARRconfig.exe thought it is invalid parameter.
The solution is quite simple, just using keyboard to retype the command, using normal ‘-‘ and I have tried the password prompt shows

If I would like to forward a request from a servlet to another one, but they are not located in the same machine.
Could I use the following code to do it?
getServletConfig().getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("XXXXX").forward(request, response); You can not do a forward to a servlet on a different server. You can do a redirect and put any parameters you want to pass in the url. If you are using JSP you may bve able to use the JSTL include tag, again passing the parameters in the URL. You could use the URLConnection or HttpURLConnection class to open a connection to the servlet, make a request, get the response and the return the response to the client.

How to get JSP to forward a request over SSL?
I'm new to JSP and servlets, although I've been working with Java for a long time. I'm trying to write a simple user registration and login system to teach myself JSP. I would like to set things up so that the user is able to login securely over https. I'm not sure how to do that, though. There seems to be no place in the relative URLs to indicate that you should be forwarding a request over SSL. I've got sample login page below - would anyone know how to modify it so that it happens securely?

7 Standard and MS Exchange 2000. We just changed to MS Exchange
2007 and we get an error as follows: "Logon failure: unknown user
name or bad password." We can access the mailbox directly from
Exchange using the account and password, so we think we are passing
the correct information (example below).
<CFPOP ACTION="GetHeaderOnly" SERVER="192.168.1.15"
USERNAME="testaccount" PASSWORD="testpassword" NAME="getMail">
Is there something we're missing? We are certain that the IP,
account and password are still correct. We have assigned this mail
server to the Mail tab in CF Administrator and it can see it and
route CFMAILs through it.
Any help is appreciated. We discovered that Exchange 2007 has five specific steps that
have to occur in a particular order for CFPOP to resume working
properly. We did this (despite several security issues) because
this function is strictly internal. Not recommended for an
application available to the general public.
Steps for making Exchange 2007 work for CFPOP:
1) Start the POP service on the Exchange 2007 server.
2) Allow the necessary email accounts to use POP3.
3) Lower the security requirements on those accounts to allow
CF to send clear text instead of encrypted (SSL) requests to POP3.
4) Set the Exchange server to allow relay.
5) Lower the security requirements for relay.
I hope I explained this correctly. This is how my network
supervisor explained it to me.
