Using ATMI and tuxedo to institue distributed transactions across multiple DBs

I am creating the framework for a given application that needs to ensure that data
integrity is maintained spanning multiple databases not necessarily within an
instance of weblogic. In other words, I need to basically have 2 phase commit
"internet transactions" between a given coordinator and n participants without
having any real knowlegde of their internal system.
Originally I was thinking of using Weblogic but it appears that I may need to
have all my particular data stores registered with my weblogic instance. This
cannot be the case as I will not have access to that information for the other
participating sytems.
I next thought I would write my own TP...ouch. Everytime I get through another
iteration I kept hitting the same issue of falling into an infinite loop trying
to ensure that my coordinator and the set of participants were each able to perform
the directed action.
My next attempt has led me to the world of ATMI. Would ATMI be able to help me
here. Granted I am using JAVA so I am assuming that I would have to use CORBA
to make the calls but will ATMI enable me to truly manage and create distributed
transactions across multiple databases. Please, any advice at all would be greatly
appreciated.

I will not have multiple instances of weblogic as I cannot enfore that
the other participants involved in the transaction have weblogic as
their application server. That being said, I may not have the choice
but to use WTC.

between weblogic instances, so as long as the things you are calling
are transaction (EJBs for instance) it should all work out fine.

appreciated.I don't see that ATMI would give you anything different. Transaction
management Tux is fairly similar to WebLogic (it was written by the
same people). If you are trying to do interposed transactions
(i.e. multiple co-ordinators) then WTC would give you this but it is
only a beta feature in WLS 6.1. Using Tux domain gateways would also
give you interposed behaviour but would require you write your servers
in C or C++ ....

  • Maintaining Transaction Across Multiple JSP Pages

              Hi,
              I have a multi page Registration (3 steps). On each step data submited is taken
              to the database via an EJB component (Session Bean). How do I maintain a transaction
              across these JSP pages so that the data in the database is consistent. If a there
              is a problem in the 3rd step the data submitted in the first two steps should
              be rolled back.
              How do I maintain transaction across multiple pages.

    It will take from several minutes to a long time for a user to complete a multiple page registration process. Do you really have enough database connections that each concurrent user can hold on to one?
    Usually you cannot open more than 50-200 connections to a database at any given time.
    Remember that some users will abandon the registration process. Can you afford that their sessions holds a db conenction until the session times out?
    Consider changing your datamodel so you can run and commit a transaction at the end of processing the form data from a page. Immediately after the commit give the db connection back to the pool inside the app. server.
    It can be as simple as having a column in the database of type enum, with a set of values that shows how far in the registration process the registration has procesed.
    BTW. if you absolutely have to hold on to the db connection, you can stuff it into a session scoped attribute and it will be available on all pages.

    I am attempting to use LabVIEW and myDAQ to power 3 independent solenoids with PWM. I am new to Labview, so I am having trouble grasping the best was to use a digital output to power my solenoids. I have many codes to generate PWM to digital output, but I cannot figure out how to actually power my solenoid from these signals. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Google ULN2003 which is a relay/solenoid driver chip. The digital outputs of your card feed to the inputs of the chip, Review the max current/voltage specs of your solenoids and compare to teh driver chip max ratings to ensure the chip can power them.
    How fast do you plan to PWM the solenoids? Can they achieve your PWM rate?

  • Transaction across multiple databases in the same BDB environment

    Hi,
    I have multiple databases and one metadata database all in the same BDB environment. At runtime I want to create an additional database, update this database and update the metadata database in the same environment under one transaction. Are there any issues in having transactions that span multiple databases in the same environment?

    There is virtually no difference between using multiple databases and a single database in a transaction. Concurrency is determined by other factors such as whether multiple threads access the same records. See the Writing Transactional Applications for more information:

  • Load balancing Internet and Site to Site VPN's across Multiple ISP.

    Hi Everyone,
    We  are currently connected to a single ISP with different Internet related  services like mail, web, dns and IPSEC site to site VPN's running. We  would be adding another ISP and do load balancing across these multiple  links. We are using Cisco ASA firewall.
    Can anyone suggest a load  balancer which can not only provide load balancing of the links but  failover as well for mail,web and IPSEC Site to Site VPN's. I came  across Peplink that can achieve this but I guess I will have to  decommision our ASA in order to install Peplink.

    Hi Sundeep,
    The simplest solution would be to put an IOS router (or two with HSRP) between the ASA and the ISPs and do policy-based routing for your flows between the 2 ISPs. Otherwise, any load balancer should work fine with the ASA. If failover of the load balancer is a requirement, you'll need to look at product specific documentation for whichever solution you choose.

  • Distribute Objects Across Multiple Pages

    I want to drag a *lot* of images into a Page Layout and have Pages create enough pages to distribute them evenly.
    I have no dead how many pages I'll need .... I expected to be able to add them to a page, the "Distribute Vetically" to have the app make as many pages as required. But it piles the images on top of each other!
    Any Ideas?

    Well not necessarily one image per page .... if 2 fitted per page that would be fine. But I needed to avoid placing hundreds of images each onto a spot on a page. It would have taken hours.
    I was hoping pages could didtribute the images for me across as many pages as required. I thought my question conveyed that. Sorry if I confused the issue though.

  • Can you propagate a transaction through multiple DBs of different vendors?

    I want to do some inserts/updates/deletes from my Oracle DB. Some of them are in my DB, others are in another Oracle DB in another machine, some are happening in a MS SQL Server in a another machine, some in a DB2 which is residing in another country. Everything should work as ONE Txn.
    Can we do this using the Oracle DB? Is there a built-in Oracle supplied pkg for this?
    i.e. We assume we are using an Oracle SP for this.

  • Distributed Transactions and Linked Servers

    I'm somewhat of a novice with SQL Server but I'm learning rapidly from an application I'm developing that uses SQL Server very heavily. In conjunction with the development of this application, I have 3-4 systems set up running SQL Server and I am using those
    systems to develop the database that will ultimately support the application. I decided to try to use linked servers because I am moving data back-and-forth among the different servers frequently and I ran into some consequences that I wasn't expecting.
    I was doing a simple delete query on one of the servers (Delete from TableName Where ...) and I was expecting, of course, that it would only impact the server I was running it on; however, when the query finished after running for a long time, it was apparent
    that SQL Server had automatically escalated that simple delete query into a distributed transaction and applied it to all four of the linked servers I had defined.  I was totally surprised by that and it took some time to recover the data that was inadvertently
    lost on the other servers.
    I want to ensure that this doesn't happen again without me expecting it - I think the right way to prevent this from happening is to run the following stored procedure:
    EXEC sp_serveroption 'servername', 'remote proc transaction promotion', 'false';
    Can someone please verify that this assumption is correct and will prevent SQL Server from automatically creating distributed transactions impacting multiple servers?

    Based on your description, it seems that when you connect to a SQL Server database and execute a DELETE statement to delete a recode on a table, and then the same recode were delete in the linked server which has the same table.
    As pre my understand, the statement executed on one server will not  apply to the linked servers unless you specify the logic yourself in the application. For example, you use dynamic query and exec the query synchronously on  linked servers.
    What's more, did you specify replication between this linked server?

              Our company has aworking application running on WLS5.1sp9.
              Im in the process of migrating it to WL6.0sp2.
              Our domain has 2 clusters each running 2 servers:
              1) servlet engines (handling http requests from clients, running servlets
              and jsp's)
              2) ejb containers (runnigour entities and session beans, working with Oracle
              8i database using connection pool and TxDataSource)
              The scenario:
              - a client request invokes a servlet on one of the servlet engines.
              - the servlet opens a jndi context to one of the ejb containers
              - the servlet open a transaction on a UserTransaction stub on that ejb.
              - then the servlet calls an entity bean using a home interface looked up
              using the same context.
              - the entity bean uses DataSource lookup in its own servers jndi to rerieve
              a connection.
              and then i get the following exception:

              that coordinates the transaction but uses the deprecated t3 driver.

              not moving on to WL6.0 we also looked at WL6.1 Beta and theres nothing new
              about it either.

    An observation and a conjecture about distributed transactions
    and distributed object references:
    Distributed non-service object references are persistent, and
    a transaction can, in principle, propagate to the distributed
    object through a method call from another partition.
    However, in order to make the transaction propagate to the
    object's partition the object must also have the
    isTransactional attribute set to TRUE. The Fort&eacute; runtime
    system apparently uses the isTransactional property not only

    As I understand, JDBC transaction is connection based and uses Oracle internal transaction manager. In order to do "distributed transactions", I must have at least two connections open at the same time each to its own database instance. How does the two connections coordinate the transactions? I thought in order to support "distributed transactions", one has to build a higher layer to encapsulate the two connections and therefore coordinate the distributed transactions. Any examples will be welcome.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
    The two branches of the transaction are coordinated using 2-phase commit.
