Using audio-in to record to my mac
Hi there - apologies if this is a dumb question.
I have some albums on mini-disc which I'd to get on to iTunes and iPod. If I play the discs on my minidisc player and feed it into the audio in port on my mac will iTunes automaticallt pick it up and "record" it or do I need some other software or a completely different approach.
Thank
Susie
...and for pure simplicity you'll find Garageband (instructions) is already installed on your iMac.

HT3625 I cannot find the use audio for option in my laptop, Pls. advise.
Hey.. i cant find ' use audio port for' in my new mac book pro. Pls. help.
Go to: Apple menu / System Preferences / Sound.
The pane that comes up lets you make changes to Output and Input.
Is there a specific audio device you want the computer to recognise? -
I would like to know If I will be able to record(using quick time player) both audio and video on my mac with head phones connected
My Mac - OSX Version 10.9.3 , Processor 1.8GHz Intel core i5, Memory 4GB 1600 Mhz DDR3Hi Sansony,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand you would like to record audio from the headphones you connected to your computer. When recording audio with QuickTime Player, you can choose to use the built-in microphone, an external microphone you’ve connected, or a microphone from a connected Apple display. Please use the following article as a reference.
Mac Basics: QuickTime Player creates, plays, edits, and shares video and audio files
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4024
Clicking the triangle icon gives you additional options, such as letting you choose whether to use the built-in microphone on your Mac, an external microphone you've connected to your Mac, a microphone from a connected Apple display, or the option to simply use no microphone at all. The triangle also allows you to adjust the finished quality of your screen recording, select whether or not your mouse clicks are shown during the recording (the pointer is highlighted when you click), and to select what location (on your Mac) to save your screen recording when finished.
Have a great day,

Using a camcorder to record video and an interface to capture the audio
Here is what I am trying to do:
Use my camcorder to record the video and use a mic connected to an audio interface to record the audio portion of the video.
Here is how my set up looks like:
I have an M-Audio firewire audio interface connected to my MacBook Pro. I have a mic connected to the interface, and I have a firewire cable connecting the camcorder to the interface.
I am able to make this work using iSight but not with the camcorder.
Recording with the camcorder works fine but the mic connected to the interface will not work. I can only hear the mic connected to the camcorder itself.
Any suggestions?
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.7)
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.7)... hmm, probably beyond the concept of this nice consumer app...?
iM is meant to work with miniDV camcorders.. all audio+video come via that single firewire "line"...
I've heard about an "internal software router", which claims to route different sound inputs to diff. apps...
it's free, so give it a try: Soundflower
please post your results, and let us know what happend.. -
Using the firebox/ to record an external synth via audio outs and a USB Mic
I have the following set up:
firebox Firewired to the QuaD.
ALL audio in and out is PRESONUS FIREBOX
in GB prefs/sound/audio midi utility
will i be able to record vocals with the USB samson
and add
an external synth coming in to channels 1/2 in the front of the Firebox 1/2 channels
and ofcourse use GB as the recording studio and use this all together.
the outs in the back of the Firebox go to a minidisc whose audio outs go to monitors so that i can record what i do in case genius strikes me fiddling around
as we all do.
so 1 Firebox, Firewire, Samson Mic ( USB ) GB 08 , minidisc, monitors
with all drivers to PResonus together.
i notice in audio midi i needed to change to device not mac to rid static
Is this a plausible set up?
can this work:
The synth is taking up 1 real track ( i set monitor on and mono presonus track )
the samson mic is taking up another real track
can i hear record the synth and sing at the same time with them on both tracks
Chris said use aggregate in the midi audio
i do not understand how to do that and what that means?
would someone be kind enough to explain this?
please take it a step at a time.
i essentially want everything working at the same time
external synths/usb mics/Gband/external recording/monitors
using the presonus firebox
thanks for your time
bless u all
someone mentioned using aggregate in the audio midi utility.Funny you should say that. It used to work fine, then suddenly last night it stopped working in the line-in jack. It's crazy, I'm not sure what the deal is, still trying to figure out what happened.

Recording through the Mac Audio Tracks rather than through the Mic.
I figured this would be very handy since I'm just recording the sound from a YouTube video, I don't want to have to use the mic to record the sound, If it's possible to save the Mac Audio Tracks, which is basically anything that comes out of the speaker, to a file to be used by Garageband later? Or is there a way to record, not through the mic, but using the Mac Audio Track through Garageband? It would help because I realized when I recorded through the mic that I had to worry about everyone around me being quite for a few seconds only to realize that the fan was running full boar which made the quality terrible. Just looking for an alternative. Maybe a program that records the Mac Audio Tracks? Sorry for the long-winded post.
I know a way around this as I had the same problem once. I bought a small lead with stereo mini jack to stereo mini jack which enabled me to connect the headphones socket to the line/mic in socket. This means that any sound your computer makes can be recorded directly using any recording application, including Garageband. No fear of extraneous noise as it is a direct connection not microphone. There may well be a purely 'software' method also but I can confirm that this does work anyway.

Hi there,
Can anyone tell me how to make make Garageband ignore HDMI as an audio output-device on a 2013 Mac mini i7 using an Apogee jam as an input for bass and a Behringer USB DAC with RCA audio output? Now it keeps on prompting me: Do you want want to use the HDMI device (monitor without audio) for audio output? I'm also suffering massive audio lag issues with the Apogee jam after waking the mini from sleepmode, wich pretty much renders it useless.
Thanks in advance,
Grtz T.I think the easiest way to do this is to have the EyeTV app running in one user account and sent via HDMI to the TV, and use a separate user account for Screen Sharing. Both logins can be active at the same time and with Lion you can connect via screen sharing to which ever login you need.
With regards to the Mac video resolution changing, when it is not the current input on your AV receiver. This is 'normal', if the Mac sees no signal it drops down the a lower level. What you need is to buy a HDMI Detective Plus which tricks the Mac in to always seeing a signal and hence it will not drop down the resolution. See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=8005
The Mac mini does have an IR receiver. This can be used with the EyeTV app, iTunes, and similar. Yes I believe EyeTV would run for prolonged periods quite happily, it is has been around for a long time and had most of the rough edges polished off. However one issue you will have to deal with is that it does not automatically update its program guide data. For this you might have to write or modify an AppleScript. Elgato support or their user forums will be a lot of help.
You can set EyeTV to convert recordings to an iTunes (Apple TV) compatible format and then delete them from EyeTV.
The HDMI Detective should solve your handshaking problems. -
HT3625 But my Mac in the Sound Input menu does not have the "Use audio for" menu option.
I want to use the audio port in my MacBook Pro 13 to record stereo sound, under the Preference>Sound> Input menu, there is no option of "use audio for".
Mid 2012 Macbook Pro 13" do not have audio in through the headphone jack.
The 13" with retina and the 15" have it. -

no audio when i record video on iphone 6plus using the front... but the rear or back camera is workin fine... pls help
Hi ria05,
If you are having issues with your iPhone not recording sound when using your front camera, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
Force an app to close in iOS
Next, I would try restarting and if needed resetting the iPhone -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Im using an iMic to record but now it all of a sudden won't pick up anything played through it, yet if i turn on garageband it works. logic pro does acknowledge that the imic is plugged in but still won't pick up any sound, even with audio input : imic and audio output : external speakers. is this just logic pro not working properly?
Same problem - happened after recent logic update.

Is it possible to lock an audio track in "record enabled" mode?
Here's how i write... i set up a drum loop to play for around 20 minutes, then I rec-enable one audio track to record vocals, and then finally, I skip around among hundreds of different midi tracks.
I just hit the down arrow button, and scroll through dozens and dozens of midi tracks. I quickly hit the keyboard to listen to the sounds. If i like a particular sound, i just want to hit record, and instantly record my vocals along with the midi performance.
Unfortunately, when i hit record, the vocal/audio track doesn't record. Right at the moment when i find an inspiring sound and hit record, the vocals just don't record.
I'm forced to scroll miles up the arrange window, to find
the vocal audio track. It's still blinking the red "rec" button, but this is misleading. It's not actually record enabled. I have to hold down shift, hit it once to turn it off, then hit it again to re-activate record function.
Only then can i record the midi AND vocals.
What I want and need is sooooooo simple to offer as a function, yet totally ruinous to my creative flow if it's not possible. (I used to do this easily on the far inferior
Cubase VST 5.1, OS 9)
Is there a way to record enable an audio track, so that,
until I specifically disable the record function, it's
ALWAYS ready to record the second I hit the record button?
Even after I've been hitting the down arrow to audition
various midi channels?
MacPro 3ghz, 8 gig RAM, 3 raptor drives Mac OS X (10.4.10) Logic 7.2.3, Kontakt 2 soft-sampler, RME 400I tried to build screensets like you suggested. If I could
get this to work, I think it would be a great solution, but
I'm having serious problems.
I opened a separate mixer, with just the single vocal/audio
track showing.
Then I opened the main mixer, which has all the faders.
If I record-enable a midi track, and then hit the record-enable button on the audio track, the midi track becomes un-enabled. Incredibly frustrating.
The only way I've been able to do it has been to record-enable the vocal track, and then start recording.
Only if Logic is actually recording, can i then record-enable the midi track without deactivating the audio
track.
A big problem is, that when i click to record enable the
vocal track, the arrange window jumps all the way up to the
top, where the audio track is. THen i'm forced to travel
down, to re-find the midi track.
You mentioned in your post that the mixer needs to be
"unlinked". HOw is this done? Will it be possible for
me to click on the record-enable button on the mixer's audio track without the arrange window jumping to that track? -
Is there any way I can find out the service record on this mac ?
I purchased a used QS from an authorized apple dealer at their after boxing day sales event. This QS is extremely quite compared to my polar express MDD.
Is there any way I can find out the service record on this mac ?
Somewhere away back when I heard that by knowing the serial number the details of the service record on the given mac could be found. However in those days I only bought new. These days with mac's inability to run applications that require the for real OS 9 ( not classic ) I have to scour the used market. I have some high end audio midi programmes ( for example emagic, cubase VST score ) that do the job and sometimes better then then the OS X versions.Hello,
You can use System.getProperty("SAPSYSTEMNAME"); in your UDF as specified in this thread.
Get name of XI System in mapping
Hope this helps,
Mark
