Using Audio sources to stress VOIP QOS

I'm looking for a way to supply/inject either test tones, voice or music as a source to inject into a voice/data stream in order to qualify and/or quantify the voice portion stats. We want to see if we can collect benchmarks or standards of performance by injecting tones or music or voice into the datastream and measure it at both endpoints; in terms of jitter, voice level adjustment, etc.

If this is just between 2 gateways you can inject a single tone via IOS using the 'test voice port inject-tone' commands:

This is a good tool for setting audio levels.
If you are using callmanager and IP phones, you can use the QRT feature.

Using MONO sources on audio tracks, is anyone else seeing buggy performance

When recording guitar or vocals they are mono tracks so I try to bring them in as mono into L8.
I am noticing a few different problems that happen VERY regularly, and I was wondering if anyone else was seeing these issues. I know that the word 'bug' is frowned at if it is user error, and in this instance, they clearly are behaving as bugs.
1) Sometimes when I create a new mono audio track, it does not come out of both speakers, EVEN THOUGH the output track is showing it going out of both.
2) If I click the little stereo/mono button on the track to switch back and forth, many times it stops playing audio altogether, and doesn't switch between the single meter or the dual meter. It gets stuck on the dual.
3) If I create a mono to stereo plugin, audio many times just comes out one side OR not at all processed, like it is bypassing the effect altogether. iZotope seems to have this problem the most.
I never know which problem I am going to get. The worst is when the audio just stops coming out altogether, but it is very frustrating for using MONO sources.
I have tested and tested and tested this to make sure I was not doing something stupid. Has anyone else experimented with this? Are you seeing this as well?

Yep, just fired up my feature film that I went through and perfected the audio levels a couple weeks ago and now they are all screwed up. The levels are not what they were two weeks ago.
Maybe this is a Limiter effect bug.

Equium L20-197: No line-in jack - How to record from an external audio source

Hi,
I'm generally very pleased with my Equium L20, but am now finding a few annoyances that I guess are cost-cutting issues. For instance, there's no onboard mic, so need to buy one for Voip purposes. And I would like to use this laptop to record from an external audio source, but now discover that there is no line-in jack, and it seems the microphone jack is mono only, even if it was possible to configure the audo card to use this for line-in source.
I'd be very grateful if anyone has any ideas for a workaround perhaps using a USB port.

The same problem I have today afternoon.
My car audio system is compatible with iPod USB connector and worked fine for also 6 months.
When connecting my iPod nano 6rd gen via USB to car audio system, iPod displays on its screen a sucessfull connection, and music tracks is successfully displayed on the car audio system. But do not play. Switch forward or backward by playlist (by the buttons on the car audio system) works also, but still there is no start playback.
I tried plugged my iPhone 5 via USB to car audio system - it's works fine.
I plugged iPod to my mac computer - itunes says it's all Ok.
I am confused and do not understand what is happening.
May be restoring to default factory settings iPod....

Hi, I have an Audi A4, my iphone 4 connects to it, you can look at the directory's, calls made, missed etc,
When you want to make a call or receive a call, the audio source from the phone is not put through the car, its only goes through the phone.
Checking the iphone, it used to show a list of audio sources i.e. the car's bluetooth connection, the speaker or the phone.
No it doesn't show the car's bluetooth.
My HTC Desire S has no such issues and voice can be heard through the car's bluetooth, so I assume that the car's bluetooth is not at fault.

I had this same problem with my iPhone 4 and my BMW. I deleted the pairing and paired the phone to the car again, and the same issue occurred.
I reset the iPhone by pressing the on/off switch and the home button and that worked! The audio sources showed up and I was able to get audio from the car.

Can I select an external audio source?

I have iMovie09 ver 8.0.6. I'm using a Panasonic video camera (it uses miniDV tapes) connected to my MacBook (white plastic 07) via firewire. When I have the cable from the mixer going into the camera and recording to tape; when I transfer the tape to MacBook, I get the external audio source great!!! However, when I plug the cable directly into the MacBook, it still gives me the audio (BUT) from the built-in mic of the camera. When I open GarabeBand and record the audio, its the external and its great. However, I don't want to have both recording at the same time only to overlay the GarageBand audio onto the video clip. Yes, I've selected the 'in-line' option from 'System Preferences'.
Is there a way that I can select the external source while in iMovie?? Looking at some other negative posts, I don't want to upgrade to iMovie 11 either.

I came across a much older post which I believe solved my issue. I connected everything up first, then booted up the MacBook; then I selected 'built-in audio' from the 'voice-over' option within iMovie. It recognized it right immediately. However, now I'm not sure that the audio is in fact coming from the 'hot' microphones that I'm receiving from the mixer. But that's just troubleshooting.

How do I record an audio source outside of Logic while in Logic? For example, I would like to record the audio off a youtube video or dvd to be then used in Logic. I am using a Dididesign M-Box Mini for both my audio input and audio output i.e. all sound is coming in and out of the M-Box. I hope this is an easy question to answer (I am a new Mac user). Why does Premiere Pro CS5 process audio source before exporting clip in AME CS5?

Hello everyone, my first post here. I am currently trying out the trial CS5 Master Collection on my MacBook Pro. I've been using Premiere Pro CS5 to put together family videos. I select a certain portion of a sequence and queue it for export in Media Encoder CS5 in the format H.264 for iPod with video and audio.
Now in AME I have a queue list of about 5 clips from the sequence. But when I hit the Start Queue button, the bottom left of the progress bar states "Adobe Premiere Pro processing audio source from [then file name]" for all 5 clips from the sequence then creates the first output file.
Then it moves to encode the second and again states "Adobe Premiere Pro processing audio source from [then file name]" for all 5 clips of mt sequence then spits out only the second output file.
This continues for the remaining 3 output files. The total sequence length is ~32 minutes with transitions and it takes about 35 minutes to export which is all consumed by the process audio source of the 5 clips in my sequence for 5 separate times.
Is there a certain reason why Media Encoder or Premiere Pro does this process of audio source? Is this process necessary or needed? I experimented with choosing different output formats but the results are the same. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

As you have found, there is basically a Render/Replace operation going on in PrPro, to get the material in the correct form for AME.

Music app does not have the function to change the audio source.

I use to change my audio source in my music app with the icon that looks like a triangle going into a rectangle i think it is call airplay, but it not there any more and what it is weir is that others app does have it so if i change my audio source in a video online it will change it in my music too..... Well i hope i could explain my self clear enough. Just put the airplay icon back in the music app. Thanks for your attention.

iTunes Radio is currently only available in the US - if you are in the US then try logging out and back into your account via Settings > iTunes & App Store, and if that doesn't fix it then try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

thanks for the replies. I'll try to explain better my scenario:
Pretend that a WM-Transfer Request was already created for a series of material linked to a certain Production Order --> 4 items in that case
          I've got a Production Order BOM with 4 components. So the system creates a WM-TR with 4 different items:
Material A123
Material B321
Material C143
Material D312
          Maybe no one will process this TR due to the fact that the Picking Date is far from today.
          So the Warehouse Supervisor didn't convert it into a TO.
Maybe the day after, the Warehouse operator recognize that the stock of the material B321, is not correct. SAP is misaligned with the reality.
        So, using MM-562 movement type and related TO, he set to 0 the quantities.
After this changes, the Warehouse Supervisor try to convert this TR into a TO using "TO IN BACKGROUND" button:
Material A123 - stock at system level
Material B321 - NO stock at system level
Material C143 - stock at system level
Material D312 - stock at system level
This error message appear and NO TO were created.
There's any way to modify this behavior?
Is possible (like VL06P) to set up a customizing or user exit that can skip only the item that are not pickable??
My expectation is to have a TO with only the 3 item that I can pick.
In our system we didn't accept negative quantity, as for Client requirement.

Multiple audio sources for quicktime movie recording

I want to record a Quicktime movie using iSight as the video input, external audio (guitar) via a Focusrite Saffire LE (1874) audio interface and internal audio (a backing track) from either iTunes, Logic 9 or MainStage 2 (I don't care which), so I can record myself playing and then send the video to another guitarist via Dropbox or similar. Is this possible and if so how do I set it up on my iMac?

QuickTime Player Pro, QuickTime X (Snow Leopard) and QuickTime 10.1 (Lion) all include a "New Movie Recording" feature. The camera can be the internal iSight or an externaly connected one and the audio can be internal or line in.
But you can only have one video and one audio source.
QuickTime Player Pro can be used to add additional "tracks" and the .mov container can have up to 99 of them. GarageBand can help you edit the track timing. It also includes other "instuments" and can play your video while you build additional tracks.
I would record via iSight but not include any audio. Then use GarageBand to add the additional audio tracks.

Ok, I reply to myself.
The problem was caused by the microphone and the firewire connection. Enhanced Dictation is not ready to work with my audio hardware (micro Shure and Presonus audio card via Firewire). Although this audio hardware works fine with other software and even with online dictation, when I use it with Enhanced Dictation, the system seems to be working (the micro bars of the microphone in the screen move ok) but no words are written at all.
The solution was to connect it analogically, using an audio connection between my audio card and the line-in connection of the mac mini (stereo).
Hope Apple will solve this problem. I guess many people probably are having the same problem, mainly people with pro audio cards. I hope that this will help them

Cutting with a different audio source

Hi,
my main purpose working with FCE is to cut Videos from my seminars and lectures. The camera (with built in microphone) is usually stationary and I have a head-set microphone which is amplified in the (big) room and recorded on a MP3-Recorder.
For cutting I would like to use the audio source from the mp3-recorder, it is much clearer, does not have any disturbances from the audience etc...
The problem is, that the timing does not really match between the two machines. For example I have a lecture with 1:08:20 video but the recorded audio on the mp3 recorder is (for whatever reason I do not understand) 1:08:28 long.
I have not yet found a solution for this. Is it possible to put markers on the two files (video and audio) in the timeline at exactly the same point and then say "stretch video to match audio markers"?

Convert the MP3 file to an AIFF file with the settings that match your FCE Sequence. Typically that would be AIFF at 48khz, 16 bit.

Cant set it to game mode etc.
Also cant set the EQ, crystalizer etc etc.
If i start the program everything seems normal, but when i turn crystalizer on/off i hear no difference, also volume control EQ nothing works!

Did not know that rMBP didn't have audio...
I had a USB headset that was a regulard headset with a USB adapter. When the headset broke, I got a cable that split the three part connector of the iPhone headset and then plugged that into the usb port and it works fine.
In any case, USB tends to be a cleaner audio source but ymv.
