Using Automator with Facebook Insights

I've trying to figure this out for three hours and I must concede that this just isn't my skill set. I have to manage 15 different facebook fan pages and want to use Automator to export the excel reports from each page and organize them in one excel document. This would save me ridiculous amounts of time. I'm sure it's possible because Automator looks quite capable.
I just can't figure it out.

If a program doesn't appear in the list, that means that Apple hasn't written actions for it yet.
You can still use Automator with Disk Utillity, but you will need to use Applescript and the 'Run Applesript' action to operate Disk Utillity.
Unfortuately the 'how' is beyond my knowledge, and the scope of this post.

Perhaps we could answer the question better if we knoe what functions were taking up the most time. Are you having to delete spam that slipped through the craks? Moving Mail to folders can be accomplished through mail rules.

Using Flash with Facebook Connect

I was wondering if anyone has any information or resources on using Flash AS3 with facebook connect. What I'm particularly looking for is how to do facebook authentication within the flash interface (so the user doesn't need to exit to the facebook website to connect) and also if there are any ways to make facebook calls from within flash once you have authenticated (rather than loading xml generated in PHP as I am currently doing).
Any information or resources would be appreciated.

The dial in process would be exactly the same as if you were dialing into the bridge as a participant. Most of the time it needs the following steps.

DTMF:                      1 or # (for a roll call or to join the bridge)
However if the provider is not using a SIP compliant bridge, the Universal Voice tool will fail upon attempting to dial out.
Also, for the hosted environment, the phone bridge must have a toll-free number.

Using Automator with iPhoto or Preview

I'm brand new to iMac. I love it, just having some learning curves.
I have over 14,000 photos needing my watermark. How do I use automator to do this quickly instead of one photo at a time with preview?

I didn't see a watermark option for graphics files in Automator.
However, I think every photo processing app will batch convert all of your files and some of them have a watermark option.
From a google search, Aperture provides a watermark option and batch processing.
In Photoshop Elements, you can "Process Multiple Files…" which allows you to add a text watermark.
I don't know if GraphicConverter can add a watermark.

Using Automator with iPhoto

I am new to using Automator. I have over 400 pictures in iPhoto and I would like to be able to organize the pictures. Unfortunately, there are many duplications of the same pictures in iPhoto. Can Automator help me identify the duplications and delete those photos without too much difficulty.
Also, if I have edited a photo in iPhoto, will Automator keep the original as well as the newly edited version?
What steps do I need to take to automate the deletion of duplicate photos?
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I must warn you to first backup your iPhoto Library folder before you try anything. using Automator to do things in your iPhoto Library folder is asking for disaster.

About the iPhoto Library folder
iPhoto diet is a good program and it would be best to read all the info he has on his site as to what it can do. Do not use automator or manually delete Originals from your iPhoto Library folder in the Finder.
How did you come to have the duplications in the library?
If I were you I would start keyword your images, then when done, do a keyword search so you can find all the same images and it will be easier to find the dups. Then delete them from within iPhoto.

Using Automator with the Apple Mail app

I want to do something that I think should be easy! I have the text of an e-mail message that I want to send to a specific mailing list. The list is in an Address Book group. I want to personalize each e-mail so that it goes to just one person and is addressed to "Dr. <last name>" at "<e-mail address>," where both are in a separate Address Book entry.
I've tried a couple of scripts using the actions provided by Apple but they fall down because I can't get Automator to reference my e-mail message. I get the error, "There is no outgoing Mail message. (-2700)) occurred in Group Mailer."
Anyone know how to properly present Automator with my mail message?

That depends on the type of email account and the settings. You can leave mail on the server or remove it.

Using Automator with Apimac Timer 6

I run a small internet café where we are all Mac. We use Apimac Timer to time our customers when they come in for a predetermined amount of time. I want to use automator to perform the following sequence of commands:
open Apimac Timer
have the "Countdown" tab selected
click "Prevent Changes" deselecting the box
change the amount of time (would like an individual workflow for 15min, 30min, 45min, 1hour)
click "Prevent Changes" selecting the box again
click start
click the "iconize" option in the lower left hand of the timer window
When we click "Prevent Changes" or "Start" it prompts us for our admin password. This prevents users from making time changes, pausing the timer, or even closing out the timer. If it were possible I would like to script in the admin username and password, and then figure out a way to password protect the workflow application created through automator via software like "File Protect" from Apimac. This would allow myself or employees to select the specific time increment be it 15, 30, 45, 1hour and only have to put in our password once.
Can anyone help me? I have made workflows with automator and they are just real inconsistent. It always opens up the timer but then it won't do everything correctly but sometimes it will.... it is like 50/50 which is pointless for what I am trying to do. I would greatly appreciate help or advice as we are small non-profit café in central america with limited resources. Please help anyone! Maybe there is even another option out there?

Can't use isight with Facebook

Hello there,
For some reasons the Isight on my Imac does not work anymore on Facebook. It's an Intel based, and the problem appeared let's say six month ago maybe after some update, can't remember. I'm on maverick now, everything works fine ( skype, facetime) but cannot shoot any vids or pics to post directly on my page wich is very very bothering me at the time...
Any Ideas??

I don't use Facebook. Apparently, however, FB Video Calling works via Skype. Therefore, you may find that you need to update to the latest Skype for proper FB function with Mac OS X 10.9.

If your problem continues to be with FB only after properly updating Skype, follow your application specific problem in the FaceBook Help Community.

Using facetime with facebook

I have the mini ipad and would like to talk with my family in italy. They use facebook on their computer. I would like to use facetime on my minipad to connect with them to their facebook account on their computer. I would to video chat. Is this possible. If so what steps need to be done in order to connect with them.

Thank you, I already looked at that site earlier. Basically, I have 2 iMacs in different locations and need to keep the Entourage email synchronized. Because of the nature of my job I often need to go back and search the emails I sent out. Basically I need to keep the information on who the email was sent to because that helps me a lot during the searches. When I set a "Redirect" or "Forward" rule it shows an email was sent from me to me, not from me to a client. When I save copies in the Sent folder, it doesn't show up on my other computer. The way I thought I'd get around it is when I BCC myself so I actually "receive" a copy of that message, and then set up a rule to mark messages coming to me from me as unread and file them in the Sent folder automatically. It works rather well, but I need to remember to BCC myself, which is why I look for automation. I tried the BCC (or CC) script for outgoing mail as well, but Entourage executes the script only after the message is sent, not as it is being created.
I tried using the "Mail" application, but for one I wasn't able to use aliases for our POP email, which we use on daily basis, and also it seems to synchronize only the .mail account, not the work account...

Using Automator with Camouflage

Hi, I am trying to find out if Automator can help me activate and deactivate Camouflage, but I cannot find a way to do it. Is it possible for it to do so and how should I do it? I also have set the hotkey for it to CmdOpt+ConH, is it possible for Automator to "press" keys then?

apple script can press keys and hence so can automator via "run apple script" action. I don't know what Camouflage is but apple script to press

You have just to install Berkeley DB, in order to use C API. Please, be aware that you have to link against the release build, after you built it.

Automator with Address Book Problem

Hey,
I am trying to remove this string of text that has been plastered to the Note of every contact of mine for some odd reason. I am trying to use Automator with the Filter Address Book Items action. I am able to collect all of those people in Automator, however I can't seem to figure out the next step which is removing the selected person's Note's. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Mikey, I saw something in the forums a while ago that might meet your needs. The thread at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1645258&%231645258 contains a script that might do what you need. If I understand the code correctly it goes through all contacts and clears the Notes field. In the meantime I'll see if I can devise an Automator solution.
