Using .avi in Breeze

I have an .avi video file in a ppt presentation, which when I
publish to Breeze the audio/video are out of sync with one another.
Can this be fixed? If not, is there a easy (free) way to convert an
.avi video file to a supported Breeze format (swf or flv)?
Help!!!
Eric

you may also try converting to FLV as it is better quality
and more reliable than SWF for video conversion. Just stick with
Flash Player 8 as the version of the FLV to ensure that your users
can watch it.
Presenter 7 should be able to convert the AVI to FLV for you
as well.

dpreview.com has a compare cameras feature that lets you compare up to 20 models at once. You just could load a bunch in and see if it gives you what you want.

  • Looking for a codec to use AVI files on Windows 8

Thanks for you assistance. My new computer using Windows 8 doesn't take a shine to me using AVI files in Adobe Premiere. Prompts me to install a codec. Pretty sure there are a ga'zillion out there. Any suggestions on which is right? And one step further, how to properly install? Best regards!

@ATRomano - First, thank you for your reply. I've been trying to correct this problem since purchasing the new computer in Dec, and this is effecting my livelihood.
    Here's a what I know.
Downloaded Adobe Premiere 11 from Amazon in June 2013 onto my Sony Vaio laptop running on Windows 7. the AVI files from my Fujifilm Finepix 4500S camera were accepted. The AVI files are titled DSCF0217.AVI. for example.
Computer crashed on T-day, so forced to buy new one. Also a Vaio, this time running on Windows 8. AVI files from my Fugifilm Finepix 4500S no longer work. Says I need a codec.
Went to Best Buy. They spent two hours on it, nothing. There solution since the AVI files worked on Windows Media player, was to start uses Sony Vaio's editing software the comes with the computer, really?
Then all of a sudden, the program is gone. Completely removed from my computer. All the projects and video/pics in elements included.
So last night I redownloaded the software from Amazon. Thank goodness they kept the serial number.
Surprisingly, the projects are still there, though when I open them most of the files in the timeline are AVI and appear as "Media Offline."
When I try to add new AVI files to the time I receive this error message - "This type of file is not supports, or requires a codec to be installed."

  • Why Can't we use AVI containers?

I've just got the new N97 and I've updated to firmware 11.0.021
I have to say I'm impressed with the multimedia capabilities and the screen is wonderful. My question is why on earth we don't have support for the AVI container.
I have a pretty good understanding of video technology and I've come to realize that despite the fact my handset will play xvid or h264 in an MP4 container it won't play the exact same file with an avi container.
I can't understand why. I'm guessing it won't play the same file again if it's in an MKV container either, that's quite understandable.
The effort one has to go to to demux/remux every single file for playback on the mobile makes the whole package so much less intuitive.
As far as I know there is no licensing concerns with container formats as the codecs themselves are what costs money to support.
The worst part of the whole situation is that there is almost no applications on Windows which will allow the transfer of a video from one container format to another without re-encoding. Linux and Mac both have options to do this with pass-through encoders like 'transcode' or 'quicktime pro' but on Windows the only solution is a complete re-encode which could mean hours to convert an entire film.
Please nokia, I implore you. Add AVI container support in the next firmware revision.

You can't use WMA audio in an MP4 file it won't play with an N97.
    Use these settings:
    Video
    - MPEG-4
    - 640x360
    - 1.5 Mbps
    - 25 fps
    Audio
    - AAC (mpeg4aac)
    - 2 channel
    - 96 kbps
    - 44100 Hz or 48000 Hz
If you are trying to use H264 video codec, start by trying Baseline profile. I don't know how to set it up in ffmpeg but if by default it tries main profile then the resulting video will not work.
For information about the video capabilities it should be here

  • Multi-Camera-Link Vision Acquisition using .avi

So I'm trying to use two Camera-Link Cameras (JAI CM-200-MCL) with the NI PCIe 1430 frame grabber in order to obtain video of a y-axis tensile testing project, and I'm relatively new to the whole LabVIEW experience. Essentially, I want to be able to capture every image of the testing process, so I can correlate the tensile testing results with specific images using the same sample clock, (e.g. data taken at 30 seconds match the image taken at 30 seconds). I'm trying to put everything together in piece and I already have a fairly stable, working tensile testing program written for LabVIEW 2009. I'm now in the process of using IMAQ (4.4) to track these images and save them as a .avi file. I've provided some sample code -- although it currently isn't working -- that's very simplistic.
    Questions:
    1. Is there an even simpler way?
    2. Can I sync the tensile testing VI and the Vision VI by placing the Vision VI in the Tensile Testing VI inside an event structure that's triggered by the "start" button. (Boolean)
    Thanks

    lyncheb,
How accurately do you want your test and images to by synchronized (second, millisecond...)?  If you only need to be accurate to around 1 second then software timing would work.  However if you need sub milisecond accuracy you will want to use hardware triggering.  The 1430 is capable of hardware triggering over a RTSI line.  See page 16 (2-4) of the user manual here: http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/372016a.pdf
What kind of data are you logging?  What hardware / software are you using to log this data?

  • Version 3.5 vs. 4.0 & using .avi with either

I've heard from numerous sources that people think Final Cut 3.5 HD is actually better than the newest version. From anyone's experience is this true, and can you give me reasons why? It's going for around $80-100 on Ebay, and I want to know if that sounds worth it.
Second of all, the only camcorder I have records in .avi type files, which aren't the most desirable I know, but they do work just fine for using on Imovie, and I'm wondering if I bought either version of the software, would my camera still be compatible with Final Cut Express? Or does it ONLY work with mini DV type cameras?
Any help at all would be appreciated!

+" ... people think Final Cut 3.5 HD is actually better than the newest version ..."+
Just the reverse. FCE 4 is more recent code, is the only version supported on Snow Leopard, and has some additional features that FCE 3.5 did not have. Among other things, it supports DV, HDV and AVCHD camcorders.
Besides that, FCE 3.5 included additional apps SoundTrack and LiveType. FCE 4 includes LiveType but not SoundTrack. Not much of a loss, as SoundTrack was not particularly useful with FCE, for technical & workflow reasons.
Regarding AVI video files, you will need to convert them to QuickTime in order to use them with FCE. Download MPEG Streamclip - it's a great conversion tool, and free.

  • Not enough speed when using AVI read

    Hello!
I have a problem with the speed, when I'm using the 'AVI read' VI.
I want to read 60 frames per second, but my test.vi allows to read at least 20 to 30 fps (->33 - 50ms loop time), even when I do it in the easiest way (only the AVIread in the loop without any analize, graphs and of course wait functions).
The VI profiler tells me, that the AVI read VI only needs 1ms per loop. During that the CPU utilization is 10%.
My hard disks are fast enough, because its possible to write more than 60 frames per second in real time.
So, can anybody help me and tell me, where the VI spend its time and how to make it faster???
    Thank you,
    Gero

    Hi all,
i just played around a bit using an advertisment video from Heineken. The default video is set to 24 fps which is displayed as expected.
I converted the video (sadly with a not so good comporession) to 72 fps. In Windows Media Player, i'd say that the 72 fps are maintained.
Using my Player.vi, the video is played with about 40fps on my Laptop. The CPU load is about 15%. So it seem that either my programming is bad or there is a platform dependency in the performance.
Removing the display from the loop (so no visualisation of the video), the performance got up to near 43 fps.
Gero, please confirm if this is the behaviour you are seeing. I asume quite an impact by different platforms, so feel free to check other systems as well.
    hope this helps,
    Norbert
PS: I split the attachment and repacked the _fast-version using a higher compression (lossy) for a smaller file size.

  • Using .AVI in Premiere Pro.

    Hello,
First of all I want to point out that it's about a MacBook Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro CS3.
    This is the problem:
I am an anime editor. I download videos of anime and edit them with my MacBook Pro. Back when i had windows, it was easy: i just installed the needed .avi codecs ( div/xvid) and i could use the .avi files ( wich the clips of the anime i download is) and i was good to go.
Since i have a macbook pro, i can't edit the clips i want with premiere: I installed all the xvid and divx codecs i could find wich allowed me to play the files in quicktime, and also i can edit them with After Effects. But whenever i try to import files in Premiere, it says: ' Unsupported compression in file.'
I've been looking for a solution for 2 days, i would highly appreciate if someone could find a solution.
    Regards
( Sorry for my bad english, I am not from the UK / USA. )

You did not misread. I have yet to see PrPro (or PrE) work perfectly with Xvid/DivX material. The main issues are Video, but no Audio, Audio, but no Video, or horribly and dynamically OOS Audio. With the Video issues, one often gets one still frame from the beginning, and then no more images, though the Audio might continue to play.
On the PC, I use a conversion program, DigitalMedia Converter, that is shareware, but I think only for the PC, and it does batch conversion. I load it up with Xvid/DivX files and alter my settings to get SD 720 x 480 29.97 FPS DV-AVI Type II files with 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio. I hit Convert, and get a cup of coffee. When done, so is the conversion.
Unfortunately, I do not know of such for the Mac, but others probably will. I do know that QT Pro should be able to do the conversion to MOV, through Export, but with no batch function, that I know of.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - as I mentioned, some other NLE's are much more capable at editing Xvid/DivX files, than any Adobe program is. However, PrPro will Export to DivX (Xvid has always failed, or even crashed the program, so I do not bother with that) just fine, but from DV-AVI Type II source footage. Xvid/DivX are delivery-only CODEC's, and are not meant to be edited. The material has been greatly compressed, and is in a GOP structure, neither of which is helpful, when going to edit.

  • Using AVI files w/final cut

Tried opening/importing, no luck, only a black screen in the viewer. Strangely, the timeline reflected the length of the clip (12 seconds of AVI video), but fcp was unable to play the video.
I ended up having to import the files to a pinnacle system which read the files with no problem, record to dv, then digitize to fcp. Certainly not the method of choice.
Is there a setting I can change to be able to import/playback AVI files in fcp?
Or is there a conversion program out there that will allow me to convert the files prior to importing?

If you look up AVI in any of the video codec references, you'll see it's as bizarre as QT or WMP ever was/is. AVI was an architecture capable of employing dozens of codecs. Most AVI codecs are obsolete or never appeared in a Macintosh form.
You need to find out what codec was used and then acquire it, if it's available at all. Probably isn't.
Try to get your source to export them into a more commonly used format.

  • How to Stop the preview from jumping when  using .avi's??

    Hi
Ive been having aproblem where the .avi file I have imported will just jump forward , making it impossible to edit.. I have try reconverting th.avi's to lower bitrate, and still it jumps ,, the avi files iam using having been converted from SUPER to .avi with h.264/AVC Video Codec, at 1280 * 720 and 29.97 Fps -> Bitrate 2208 kbs,, if anyone has any suggestions,,??

DV won't handle John's frame size. He may be better off using Desktop mode with something like the Lagarith codec, though Premiere may not edit perfectly smooth with that one either.

  • Using AVI files in FCP and the 3ivx codec

    Hello there,
My video camera only films in .AVI files which the Mac cannot 'see' although the audio is fine. From my research it seems like the only codec available to allow you to 'see' the video on .AVI is the 3ivx codec which I downloaded before and which worked fine but then the trial ran out and left nasty watermarks all over my files which were a pain to get rid of. Is buying the codec the only thing to do? Has anyone bought the codec, so I know it's a safe website?
What I had been doing to avoid the codec was using iSquint to convert to mp4 and then using that file in editing software, then converting that to a youtube friendly file and then on to youtube itself, meaning that all the compression left the youtube video very very blurry.
Is the codec my only option?
Thanks for your help on this, it's driving me mental.

What camera only shoots 3ivx, Jenni?
And have you tried Perian yet? It will allow Quicktime to read 3ivx along with many other otherwise unsupported codecs. Suck it and see ... some users have issues with Perian installed, others get along with it just fine.
Converting to mp4 for editing is not recommended, nor is editing in 3ivx or any AVI wrapped codec for that matter. Convert it instead to a proper intraframe editing codec (such as good old fashioned DV) ... you can use the free MPEG Streamclip for this

  • Using .AVI files in FCP

Hi (this is my first posting),
I have hard drives (XP) full of AVI files that I must use in FCP. When I import them Final Cut says that these files "are not optimized for FCP" and should be recaptured or to use Media Manager to copy.
I'm new to FCP so when I copied in Media Manager - I don't know what happened. I was assuming I'd get a .MOV somewhere?
Do I need to get the original tape and re-capture on my Mac? The video doesn't look degraded and I produced a video ignoring this message with no problems. Now we're going to move to HD.
Is there a way to recapture an AVI from a hard drive, do I need to? What am I doing wrong (besides capturing to .AVI on XP system). Help .....
Dual G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Final Cut Studio

I'm having the same problem, with hours and hours of AVI files that I want to sort through and can't recapture. I am trying to use Media Manager -- I choose recompress, and pick my destination, but it only creates more AVI files, not MOV files, and I can't figure out why?
When I try to import these new AVI files into my project, I get the same optimization warning... what am I doing wrong? (using FCP 5.1.4)

  • Using .avi files in iMovie

I have a point an shoot camera that records video. They're avi files. iMovie can't process these files that I know...
Any idea how to modify file extension to something that iMovie can use. If I had only 1 file I just open with Quicktime and export to .mov, but having dozens of files makes this very time consuming...
    Ideas?

    Import them into iPhoto.
Then in iMovie, you will see an iPhoto category in the Event Library. You can access it there.

  • Faster exports for BluRay: Use .avi or mp4?

    Hello,
I have digitized about 20 movies to .avi files.  In total, the are about 300GB.  My goal is to use Premier to create a movie with these files and to insert chapter markers to separate them.  Next, export the movie to Encore to build an H265 BluRay disk with the chapters.  I've found that the rendering time is off the charts...  Would it be better for me to convert the .AVI files to .MP4 and use them in the movie?  My thought is that the compressed format will reduce the time it takes to export to Encore and for Encore to build the BluRay disk.  If this idea is a good one, will there be much loss in quality?  I am using Adobe Cloud versions of the applications...
Thank you for your time and advice,

I've tried just about everything to get the sound to play on my AVI files using OS Tiger. Even download VLC as suggested by someone here, but to no avail. Sound plays fine when I switch over to OS 10.5.2 [L], but I can't get anything when I play AVI files using OS 10.4.11 [T]. Any suggestions? Would truly appreciate it. TIA!

In the OS Systems Preference, tried adjusting sound there and as mentioned on my OP, I've downloaded VLC, Perian and one other program whose name I can't recall at the moment and restarted computer as suggested after downloading, but nothing worked.
