Using backup for new set-up

Just a quick question...
I am setting up my new Mac Pro from a time machine backup from my old G5 PPC. The new one is set up with Snow Leopard old one is just Leopard. Will the snow leopard remain on the new system or get overridden since the back up is from just leopard?
Sorry if this is a silly question...I've never set-up from a back up before.
Thanks.

Use +Setup Assistant+ when the new Mac first starts up.
See [Setting up a new Mac from an old one or its backups|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/Setup.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum) for details and instructions.

  • SMW01 - A key was used twice for multirow set type COMM_PR_CATEGORY

    Hi experts!
    I'm facing with next problem:
    - after we delete product by program COM_PRODUCT_DELETE_SINGLE.
    - now we using r3ar2-r3ar4 for replicate existing materials from r/3
and receive followng error in bdoc's (smw01)
"A key was used twice for multirow set type COMM_PR_CATEGORY" COM_PRODUCT 512
"Validation error occurred: Module COM_PRODUCT_MAT_VALIDATE, BDoc type PRODUCT_MAT." SMW3 18
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks.

    Hi Hon,
In my scenario there was a customizing error regarding TAXes, I solved it checking mlan registries.
Have a close look on the error mine was: A key was used twice for multirow set type CRMM_PR_TAX.
Then check on SMW01 the segment that stores this info. and look for inconsistencies.

  • Unable to delete EPMA Planning app & re-use datasource for new app

We have EPMA Planning application (v11.1.1.3)
I am trying to delete a deployed planning application and try to use the same datasource for creating new application.
I have deleted the application from EPMA application library and deleted it from Planning directory in Shared Services. But, still that datasource is not showing up as available datasource for new application.
Any ideas to how I can re-use the datasource. Please advise.
    Thanks,
    DV

You may need to update the planning system tables.
Go into the planning system relational tables
Table HSPSYS_APPLICATION, delete row relating to planning app, note the app_id.
Table HSPSYS_PROPERTIES, delete records with id that you have just stored.
Table HSPSYS_DATASOURCES, update app_id to -1 for the datasource you use for the planning app.
    Restart Planning.
    Try again.
    Ok?
    Cheers

  • Using Mail for news feed

    Hello-
Can Mail be used to receive news? My ISP has a how-to for using Outlook Express but I'd like to try it with Mail. If not Mail, is there another Mac app that will work? This is for a class assignment. Thanks!

Can Mail be used to receive news?
    No.
If you mean Usenet newsgroups, you can use Thunderbird. They can also often be viewed with a browser via groups.google.com

  • Use securefile for new partitions made by interval partitioning

I am using Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production.
I have a range partitioned table having lobs as basicfile. Due to storage issue and other business constraints , it is determined not to change existing lobs to securefile.
However ,we want new lobs to be in securefile and alter table to have  interval partition+.
While researching, I found sql to change lob in range partition to securefile by using
alter table t1 add partition t1_p2 value less than (10000) lob (col3) store as securefile (tablespace tbs_sf1)Please advise me to do similar  in case of interval partition.
    Many thanks for assistance.

    >
Can we modify default attribute of lob to store as securefile for partition table.
    >
Yes - that is what I meant in my reply. But it seems I may have been wrong since after further testing I was able to find syntax that would appear to work for you. Please test this and post the results.
    The line
LOB(CLOB_DATA) store as securefileshould store intervals as securefile. But it accepted syntax to store the predefined partitions as basicfile
      PARTITION P0 VALUES LESS THAN
      (TO_DATE(' 2008-01-01 00:00:00', 'SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS', 'NLS_CALENDAR=GREGORIAN'))
LOB(CLOB_DATA) store as basicfile,I don't have time to test with data until next week. But if this works you could predefine all of your partitions that you want to use basicfile for and then use interval partitions for the ones you want securefile for. That sounded like what you were trying to do.
    DROP TABLE INTERVAL_SALES1 CASCADE CONSTRAINTS;
    CREATE TABLE INTERVAL_SALES1

      AMOUNT_SOLD    NUMBER(10,2),
      CLOB_DATA      CLOB
    LOB(CLOB_DATA) store as securefile
    PARTITION BY RANGE (TIME_ID)
    INTERVAL( NUMTOYMINTERVAL(1,'MONTH'))
      PARTITION P0 VALUES LESS THAN
      (TO_DATE(' 2008-01-01 00:00:00', 'SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS', 'NLS_CALENDAR=GREGORIAN'))
      LOB(CLOB_DATA) store as basicfile,
      PARTITION P1 VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE(' 2009-01-01 00:00:00', 'SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS', 'NLS_CALENDAR=GREGORIAN')),
      PARTITION P2 VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE(' 2009-07-01 00:00:00', 'SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS', 'NLS_CALENDAR=GREGORIAN')),
      PARTITION P3 VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE(' 2010-01-01 00:00:00', 'SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS', 'NLS_CALENDAR=GREGORIAN'))
)Post the results of any testing you do.

  • Can I use old iPhone 4.3.3 backup for new iPad 6.1.3 to recover lost contacts?

I lost all Contacts from iPhone 4 iOS 4.3.3 when I accidentally deleted my old MobileMe email account. (Never upgraded to 5.0+). Can I sync or restore a new iPad mini 6.1.3 using an old iPhone backup through iTunes to retrieve my Contacts? Is there other way?  Not on iCloud. Don't wanna restore my iPhone & lose all its data since last backup. Thank you.

Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and confirm that the backup completed successfully.  If wi was it will say "Last Backup:" with a date and/or time at the very bottom under the "Back Up Now" button.  After confirming this, do the following:
Restore your iPhone backup to your iPad Mini by connecting the iPad Mini to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of your iPad Mini in iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click on Restore Backup.  Watch the progress bar at the top of iTunes and allow the restore process to complete.  When it's done, eject it from iTunes and disconnect it from your computer.
Check the contacts and calendar on your iPad Mini to confirm that the they was successfully restored.  Assuming they were, go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts and Calendars to On (if they aren't already on), and choose Merge when prompted to upload the data to your account.
Go to icloud.com from your computer, sign into your iCloud account and check your contacts and calendar to confirm that they were both successfully uploaded.
Restore your iCloud backup by going to Settings>General>Reset and tapping Erase All Content and Settings.  Then go through the setup screens on your iPad Mini and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup.  Sign into your iCloud account, agree to the terms and conditions, then choose your most recent backup to restore to.  Be sure your iPad Mini is connected to wifi and your charger as this may take some time to finish.  After restoring your data and settings, it will restart and begin to download your apps and other purchased media.  During this process you will be prompted enter the passwords for the Apple ID(s) used to purchase this media.
When it's done restoring our iCloud backup, go to Settings>iCloud, confirm that you are signed into your iCloud account and turn Contacts and Calendars to On (if they aren't already on).  Your recovered contacts and calendar should then reappear on it.

  • I have two time capsules (1TB, 2TB) and want to use one for another set of Macs (my Family). How do I set both up and keep all the Macs from joining both Time Capsules?

I Have two Time Capsules (1TB and 2TB) and want to set one for business and the other for family - networking seperate Macs to each.

Both should be plugged into the network with ethernet.. if at all possible.
If you have a router already then both bridged otherwise one set to router and one to bridge.
How do you access the TC? Ethernet or wireless?
Are they located in the same area?
You could set different wireless networks.. if they use wireless.. this is nice easy way to do it.
You can set user account in the TC you want the business one to join with.. that will prevent access by the family.
So there is a number of ways.. none are particularly secure btw.. the TC is a home not a business device.. if anybody wants access they press the reset for one second.. pofff all the passwords are default for 5min.. to allow people who forget their password to get access.
On ML you can encrypt TM backups.. this is better for security if that is the problem.. and still use different user profile to prevent access.

  • HT1178 scan cannot find time capsule for new set up

I have connected airport time capsule with ethernet cable direct to the computer, but the scan for the new time capsule comes up with nothing.
Can anyone suggest a way to scan manually when manual scan button is greyed out.
    Thanks

Unfortunately, if you check the Specification page for the System Requirements for the new Time Capsule, it reads like this:
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
         or
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3
    http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/specs/
So, if you have a new Time Capsule, you will not be able to use 10.6.8 to set it up and administer it.
If you have an iPhone or iPad handy, that could be used to set up the new Time Capsule.
If not, then you will need to upgrade your Mac to at least Lion (10.7.5) or higher.

  • Continuity issue after Time Machine Backup for new Mac

I restore new Mac Mini (2014) with a Time Machine backup made on MacBook Air (13', 2012). Now handoff is not working on my MacBook because iCloud thinks that Mac Mini is MacBook Air now. I disabled iCloud on all devices and Handoff and other worked well on Air before I logged into iCloud on Mac Mini. What should I do to repair this issue?

That's not how you set up a new computer.

  • Data Backup for New iMac

    Hi all,
I just purchased my first iMac and before it gets here I am trying to figure out what the best ways are to backup data on the system. I currently backup data for my Windows-based PCs using Carbonite online backup. But I wasn't sure what ways people commonly use to backup data on iMacs.
    Thanks,
    JK

Hello! Backing up your data can be as simple of using a .mac account or some other type service or it can be to cd/dvd or another drive. Backing up your system is a different matter. You'll need an external firewire drive (preferably with the oxford 911 chipset) in order to "clone" a bootable system using CarbonCopyCloner, DiskUtility, or SuperDuper. Tom

  • Problem when using template for new database (ora10g)

    Hi all,
I've done this a few times now, on different servers weeks apart.
I have an Oracle 10g install on a Windows Server 2003 box, and I have run the database configuration assistant to create a database. We will have several databases with the exact same setup when I move Oracle 10g to a production environment. I created the database exactly as I need it the first time round, then I save it as a template to use for the next ones. However, when I run the template I get the following error:
    ORA-01501: CREATE DATABASE failed
ORA-09314: sltln: error translating logical name
Whats driving me nuts is, if I just go ahead and retype everything back in the same as the last database it works fine, just seems to be the template which is messing me up.
Heres the template I'm trying to use (hope just pasting it like this is ok.. if not, please some mod remove it and I'll attach it)
    Thanks!

  • Export using Compressor for DTV setting (7 channel audio)

I am trying to export a FCP project using Compressor - I have 8 channels of audio - to make up L, R, C, FLE, Ls, Rs,Lt, Rt. I am exporting ProRes 422 HQ with the SMTP DTV Audio setting. At the end of the export, I have been dragging the file into soundtrack to check the audio output, and there is only info on the first two channels of the 8-channel audio track.
The sequence settings are set as discrete channels. What am I missing?

And then, you feel like an eejit when you realize that you forgot to assign the channels in the timeline....

  • When I try 'restore from iTunes Backup' for new iPhone it says the 'backup "(name)" cannot be restored to this iPhone because the software on the iPhone is too old'

I don't know how to resolve this so I can set up the phone?
It's an upgrade from 4S to 5S if that's any help and I have checked if there are any updates which have not been done on the old phone and it says there isn't.

  • Using Search for new contacts that are strangers.

    Hi Guys! How are you?

Hi, Christopher, and welcome to the Community,
Skype now restricts the directory search parameters in an effort to prohibit the activities of spammers, phishers, and the like.  I would not expect Skype to describe the search algorithm's parameters.
    Best regards,

  • Need to undo the "use for new links" option...???

Hello- Probably an easy answer to this one- I'm just not seeing it.....My first link I made on the page I clicked "use this for new links". Now I don't want to use that format for new links anymore. Do I always have to remember which link was the first one I created and change that one? Do all of the link have to have the same effect? How do I undo the "use for new links" option?
    Thanks!
    Holly

That's how I thought it should work- there must be something wrong then because after I click "use for new" once, the options are greyed out for any link made after that. Only the original one lets me change it, then all the others follow suit with the changes made to the one. Didn't seem right. Think I should reload iLife?
