Using bespoke profiles in Lightroom

I know this is an old chestnut but I wonder if anyone has yet cracked the problem of printing with bespoke profiles (Permajet, for their own ink and paper combination) in Lightroom. I use an iMac and Epson 2400. I've recently had Permajet's continuous flow ink system installed in the Epson. They suggested I would get the best results by using their bespoke profiling service.
Sadly, they failed to mention that their system is geared to printing through Photoshop CS. After the conversion I discovered that they aren't familiar with Lightroom. Needless to say, trying to use the bespoke profiles they supplied is a disaster - very strong magenta overtones.
I went back to an excellent post in this forum by Jason Hicking on 25 January this year which should, I think, have solved the problem. Using the guidance provided I adjusted the profile selection in the Mac's colourSync utility. I'm sorry to say that it didn't work. Still the strong magenta cast.
I'm using Lightroom 1.4 (too frightened of upsetting my system by upgrading to 2.0)
Any thoughts?
With thanks in advance
Chris

You have to print the targets from PS CS (or some other tool in which you can disable color management) and then you can use the resulting profiles to print from LR.
You cannot print the targets correctly from LR because LR always uses color management (a good thing).

  • How to use lens profile from Lightroom 5 in Lightroom 4

I'm using Lightroom 4.4 on a five-year-old iMac.  I haven't been able to upgrade to LR 5 because it requires an operating system upgrade, but the technicians at the Apple Store say my machine is too old for the upgrade.  I just bought a new Sony 18-105 lens which requires siginificant software lens correction.  It has been included in the latest ACR in LR 5, but not LR 4.  Is there any way I can locate and load the lens profile for just this one lens in my LR4?  I've looked and there is no profile in the Adobe Porfile Downloader I can use.

Zenfolio purposely disables saving of images from the gallery, so requires some deviousness to get to a smallish version of the underlying JPG image, here:
    http://fiegenschuhphotography.zenfolio.com/cdn/pub/uf9epzjb9ekl/0/null/mk/2ho0rvxl_mbq61ne tqcu/s2/v61/p207717972-3.jpg
Figgie123, can you provide an original-sized raw file to test with?  Upload it to somewhere like www.dropbox.com then post the public download link, here. The file on Zenfolio is small, difficult to even download, and isn't what you're working with when the lens profiles are not working for you.  The idea is to repeat what you're doing to see if we have the same issues.
Here is what applying a Sony E PZ 18-105 F4 G OSS profile looks like in Photoshop Lens Corrections and I don't really see any change compared with the Zenfolio image:

  • How to use DNG profiles without buying Lightroom/Photoshop?

I bought a ColorChecker Passport. All I want to achieve is accurate color reproduction and white balancing. I don't need Photoshop or Lightroom. Is there a cheaper solution to apply DNG profiles to my photos?

For your edification, you may want to read this thread:

especially post #9 by Jeff Schewe:
    Jeff Schewe wrote:
Actually, if you think about it, you really WOULDN'T want a DNG profile to alter the white balance of an image...that would seriously limit the usefulness of that profile. DNG profiles are designed to adjust the color and tone rendering of a given camera's spectral response. However, white balance is a shot by shot situation.
So, DNG profiles specifically DON'T take white balance into consideration. If they did, you could only use that profile for single white balance situations. The whole camera profiling issue is made far more complex than profiling a printer. You need a camera profile that allows color and tone adjustments over a broader range of light sources...compared to a printer that should remain consistent given a specific paper and printer setting.

  • How to select my custom monitor calibration profile into Lightroom 5.7?  I used i1 Display Pro to calibrate my monitor, I could not find or confirm that Lightroom is using my custom monitor calibration profile? Thank you very much.

How to select my custom monitor calibration profile into Lightroom 5.7?  I used i1 Display Pro to calibrate my monitor, I could not find or confirm that Lightroom is using my custom monitor calibration profile? Thank you very much.

The monitor profile is set at system level. Lightroom will find it there and use it. You're not supposed to do anything, i1 Profiler will do it all for you.
Go here to confirm that the right profile is set as system default (Windows):

  • Unable to load icm printer profiles in Lightroom 5

I am unable to access correctly loaded RGB printer profiles in Lightroom 5.
In the print module when color management profile "Other" is selected no loaded profiles appear; and Lightroom usually freezes.
Using Photoshop v6 on same computer I can access all loaded printer profiles. I have reloaded LR5.
Does anyone have a solution or work-around for this problem?

The "Include Display Profiles" checkbox is at the bottom of the list that comes up if you click "Other..." in the Lightroom Print Job panel. If this is the point where Lightroom freezes you won't get to it of course. So then the question is what prevents Lightroom from loading that list?  Maybe someone else has suggestions, so hang on for a while.
Anyway, whatever the extension, the point is that the profile in question has to be the correct one for that particular printer/paper/ink combination. Apologies if this is stating the obvious, but you don't really have a choice between several, you just pick the right one. They install with the printer driver and are named for instance "Epson <model> Premium Semigloss" and so on, different profiles for different paper types.
Or you can make your own profiles. I believe the ColorMunki, for one, lets you create printer profiles as well as monitor profiles.

  • How to install ICC profiles in Lightroom

This is probably an easy question, but I didn't see an obvious reply in Google.  I use ICC profiles when I print from Photoshop, but they don't appear in Lightroom.  Is there an easy way to install all my profiles into lightroom?

    Jim,
Thanks!   I was scratching my head there for a moment, because that's how I install profiles in Photoshop. I couldn't figure out why they weren't showing up in Lightroom. It finally dawned on me that I had had to nuke and re-install Lightroom due to a persistent corrupt file. Apparently the profiles went away with the previous installation.  Thanks for your help!

  • Color profiles in Lightroom 3 for online printing

    Hi,
I would like to know if I can enter color profiles in Lightroom 3 for online printing. I am going to use Adormapix and they have color profiles for each paper. Is there a way to do this in LR 3 and if not is this available in LR 4 or 5? I plan to upgrade in the next 6 months but may upgrade sooner if I need to.

Generally, profiles provided by labs are not for imbedding, or converting the image to send for on-line printing. They are used to simulate the final output on your screen so you have an idea what you will be getting back from the lab on that paper. This is called soft proofing. It is available in Lightroom 4 or 5 by hitting the [S] key while in the Develop module.  Choosing a profile in the Soft Proofing dialog that appears beneath the histogram is a way to see how your final print will approximately appear on a selected media.
From Adorama's website: "We print in sRGB color space, so for best results convert your images before uploading." meaning that you will want to send Adorama sRGB images only. When you create a JPEG file to send to Adorama, you will want to specify sRGB in the Lightroom Export dialog under File Settings.

  • Color profiling in Lightroom

    Hi,
I send my photos to a lab for printing. Is there a way to use their color profiles in Lightroom or do I have to go back to Photoshop to do this? And, if I adjust the photo using the labs color profile in Photoshop will Lightroom recognize it?
    Thanks,
    j.

You can "print" a color managed JPEG file out of Lightroom's print module and select any color profile on your system.(It's a handy way of utilizing the layout features in the print module while using your local lab) You can also select any color profile when exporting your file. The only place where color profiles are limited is the exchange between Lightroom and Photoshop. You can choose between the three most common color spaces at that point.
One other quick point, Lightroom is completely color managed. If your file is tagged with a valid ICC profile the application will respect and manage all of those details for you.
    Regards,
    Tom

  • Nikon 1 V3 profile for Lightroom

Please update the Nikon V3 Adobe Standard profile for Lightroom 5.4.  I regret to say it is not nearly as good as the corresponding profile for Camera Raw 8.5.

I have temporarily made a copy of the Nikon 1 V3 Adobe Standard profile used by Camera Raw and added it to my User camera profiles in Lightroom 5.4.  Is this an appropriate stopgap measure?

  • Huey Pro Monitor Profile and Lightroom

I have saved a monitor profile on my computer, but don't understand how Lightroom uses that profile. I am currently using Epson and Ilford Paper on my Epson Stylus Pro 1400 and I have the correct color profiles for those papers.
My question is, if Lightroom does not manage the printing, what settings should be entered in the Epson Printer Setup to ensure that the printer is using my monitor profile in addition to the correct paper profile?

    Wil-
    First, what Jao said :)
Second: In regards to printing, a calibrated monitor profile gives us the best shot at a print looking like what we see on the screen, as long as when we print we have LR manage the color using the correct printer/paper profile and we turn off color management in the printer's driver.
If you have the printer manage color make sure that you tell LR to not manage color. In this case, the answer to your Printer Setup question is you have to choose whatever paper option most closely matches the paper you are using. Then, you have to go through a series of test prints and adjust your print driver color settings until they match what you see on the screen. You may have to alter those settings for different prints, to adjust for different image color balances.
It's really preferred to let LR do the color management, since you have both a monitor profile and a printer/paper profile.

  • Relative path for Download directory folder.I created a firefox profile and i wanted to use this profile in multiple machines.I wanted to use a relative path for download directory with respect to the profile folder.I need this on Linux machines

I have a use case where I need to use different download directories with different firefox profiles.I need to use this profiles in multiple linux machines.
I need to have a relative path to my download directory with respect to the profile folder.
Ex: I have a selenium test which opens a website and downloads it to my machine.I want this downloaded file to go into some specific folder relative to this profile folder. How do I do this??

That is not a practically empty xinitrc - that file only needs one line: exec WM.  Other things are entirely optional, and some of them very useful, but I'd encourage you to stick with the simplest xinitrc that will do what you require.
Is slim involved?  Probably.  That is the source of many problems.  But to start narrowing this down, I have 3 suggestions:
    1) temporarily (at least) change your inittab to default to runlevel 3 ... actually, is it currently set to 5 or 3? if it is currently 3 that would explain why slim doesn't start.
    2) at a tty in runlevel 3 use "xinit" instead of "startx".  Startx is fine most of the time, but it is essentially just a complex wrapper for xinit.  That complexity can often iadd useful functionality, but it *always* makes troubleshooting more difficult.  So for now just use a vanilla 'xinit'.
    3) remove dbus-launch from your exec line in xinitrc.  This is done by console-kit so it is redundant and potentially problematic.  Further BOTH of these are taken care of by slim, so I'd even suggest getting both a jump start on being ready for slim and simplifying troubleshooting by removing both of them.  Just make that line "exec openbox-session"
    Edit: adding one more:
    4) temporarily switch out openbox-session for openbox.  I suspect the reason feh's setting of the background is getting overridden is due to a script or setting in openbox's autostart settings - many of these are only invoked when "openbox-session" is called, while "openbox" starts *just* the window manager itself.

  • Internet Shortcuts saved on Desktop open new instance of Firefox 3.6 using clean profile--how can I make it open all shortcuts using current profile?

I rely heavily on Firefox's profiling ability to assist me in my web design projects. Lately, using Firefox 3.6, I have run into some problems with how it opens Internet Shortcuts that are saved locally (i.e.- shortcuts that reside on my Desktop). When I double-click on one of these shortcuts, a new instance of Firefox 3.6 is loaded with the saved website from the shortcut, but it's also initialized a fresh profile (i.e.- my bookmarks are gone, no add-ons, etc.--it's as if it uses some sort of "hidden" clean slate to load the shortcuts).
Is there any way to force Firefox to load all shortcuts into whatever profile I'm currently using at that given moment? I think the reason this has happened to begin with is because of the fact that I did some stuff to Internet Explorer awhile back that caused some problems with the Internet Shortcut associations and it all led to this eventuality.
I'm running Windows XP Pro and have the following profiles with my Firefox versions:
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox 3.6\firefox.exe" -no-remote -p Firefox3.6
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox N\firefox.exe" -no-remote -p FirefoxN
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox 3\firefox.exe" -no-remote -p Firefox3
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox 2\firefox.exe" --no-remote -p Firefox2
When I go into the "Folder Options / File Types" and double-click on "Internet Shortcut", I have the following within the "Advanced" settings (for the "open" action):
    Action: open
Application used to perform action: rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %l
    "Use DDE" is checked...
    "DDE Message" is blank...
    "Application" is "shdocvw"...
"DDE Application Not Running" is blank...
    "Topic" is "System"
Again, I think the root problem here is to do with the profiles and how they're handled when being opened with Firefox but I can't discern how to apply a fix with all this as I've obviously goobered this up a bit. I would really appreciate some professional knowledge on this and would prefer to avoid any reinstalls of anything if possible.

To save your sanity with this issue, my advice is to find a method other than desktop shortcuts to open those URL's.
    1. Desktop shortcuts are going to open the Default Browser.
    a. With multiple versions of Firefox installed that would be the last version that was installed when you have Firefox set as the Default Browser in Windows..
    b. The Default Browser is going to use the Profile that shows a Default=1 in the profiles.ini file.
    c. The Default Browser with the Default Profile isn't going to open if you have any other versions of Firefox already running, and the -no-remote command line parameter doesn't work in this situation.
    2. The use of multiple Profiles and multiple versions isn't officially supported by Mozilla, and all the Bug reports that I have ever read about Requests for Enhancement have been WONTFIX'd by the developers. Basically we have to work with the limitations in Firefox and maybe improvise work arounds by ourselves. I've even seen a few threats about removing Profiles altogether in RFE Bug reports about Profiles.
I have had so many problems over the years with this Default Browser / Default Profile thing over the years that personally I find it easier to just set Opera as the Default Browser in Windows rather than have a Profile get b0rked because some other program I am using decides it wants to open the Default Browser unexpectedly. I don't use Opera for much, but it is a lot better than IE for purposes of being the Default Browser, considering the quirks I have seen with Firefox and multiple Profiles.
I have written a number of postings over at the MozillaZine Builds forum over the years about installing multiple versions of Firefox and using multiple Profiles. There's a lot of tips and comments provided by other multiple Profile users in one of those threads. Why don't you read those threads and see if it gives you some ideas or solutions I haven't thought of.

  • Can I use the Profile Manager as an MDM while distributing app through app store?

Is it possible to use the Profile Manager within the OSX Server to provision profiles through apps purchased in the app store?
Ex:  userX buys app in the app store, in downloading the app they get enrolled in the MDM / OSX Server I control.  They select profile settings within my app and submit to OSX Server (Profile Manager) at which point I send back OTA the provisioned profile for them to upload.
    Ex:  https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/parentkit/id600618138?mt=8
    Thanks for the feedback!

Is this not possible?  Is it possible but not allowed?

  • I used  Ion Profile Pro to digitize quite a few records. However on some records, it will not recognize them and sync them in iTunes. Perhaps because some songs "ran together" when copied or titles were misspelled. Can I get iTunes to recognize them?

I used Ion Profile Pro turntable to digitize some old records. It worked fine for most of the records, but on five or six albums I get an error message saying "the original file can't be found" and it won't transfer them to my iPod Touch. However, the files are on my hard disk digitized and I can click on them and play them in Windows Media Player. When I go to iTunes, the records (or the CD created from the original records) exits in the iTunes libraries for sale. However, in some cases, the contents of the album offered for sale differs slightly from the original record, or the songs exist on different albums, but not the original album that I had. In some cases minor misspellings occurred on a few titles when they were entered in the ION softwareon my computer. In a few cases, it seemed as if ION did not recognize that there were two or three songs and ran them all together as one and again, my song list does not exactly match Apple's.
I own these songs, but iTunes won't put them on my iPod Touch. Is there anything I can do (short of paying for songs I already own) to get Apple to recognize these songs?

You seem to have an iTunes problem, not an iPod problem.  Try posting in the iTunes forum.
