Using blue yeti microphone with skype question

Hi,
I just bought a blue yeti mic to use with skype. The other person can hear me fine
but I cant hear him. All tests checked out fine on both ends. Then I saw the headphone jack on the bottom of the yeti mic. Question: do I have to have headphones on and plugged into the yeti headphone jack in order to hear someone, or is there a way to use the yeti and hear the other party without using headphones?
Thanks for any replies!

I briefly googled your issue and came up with this: http://the-gadgeteer.com/2010/08/11/blue_yeti_mic/
It may be worth a read, as it sounds like you may need headphones unless you're willing to mess around with your computer's audio functions.

  • Using a studio microphone with skype

Hey! So i've recently bought a Samson Meteor USB Studio microphone for recording and such. It sounds flawless in programs like audacity. I tried to use it in skype while playing some video games with friends and the sound quality dropped so much, even my $50 gaming headset's mic sounds better. Anyone know why that is? Is a microphone like this not meant to be used with VOIP programs? My friends complain that they can barely hear me or that i sound depressed lmao, and keep making fun of how bad the quality is. I'd rather use my new studio mic, not my gaming headsets mic though, any thoughts? Thanks!

I don't know I've seen plenty of headsets more expensive than that Mic.  One thing I've learned with Skype is the more bells and whistles a device has, the more problematic it can be with Skype.  I also would suggest initially not doing other things when testing out the mic to narrow down if the issue is mic settings, Internet or USB bandwidth related.  If the USB mic has any hardware modes or virtual software modes/enhanced settings (EQ, Noise cancellation, etc.), I would suggest disabling them as they can distort or limit audio levels in Skype when other apps are seemingly unaffected.  If you are connecting the device through a hub, try directly to a USB port on your computer.

  • Blue Yeti microphone problem with iPad 2!

I have a Blue Yeti microphone which I connect to a powered hub (Logik LP4HUB10) and an Apple camera connection kit which I then have used through GarageBand on my iPad 2. Due to various reasons I did not use the Yeti for about 9 months or so. Anyway, when I returned to use it today, when I plug in (through recommended connection sequence) and turn on GarageBand, the microphone does not work. The light is on constantly (doesn't even blink when I press the mute button) and GarageBand does not seem to acknowledge the microphones existence (not even an error message of any sort). I have tried the microphone on my PC and it works fine. The Yeti previously worked fine through GarageBand on my iPad 2. Therefore, can anyone provide any help at all? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    C

It's really hard to say why it's not working since it should not work to begin with.
That's a completely unsupported configuration and could very well damage your iPad.

  • Blue Yeti Microphone Issues

Recently purchased a Blue Yeti microphone from Apple and I've had an issue after only using it for one day.
In Garageband > Preferences > Audio/MIDI, the microphone used to be recognised as "Yeti Microphone" however it is now recognised as "USB Advanced Audio Device". This has lowered the quality and increased the sensitivity of the mic by 10 fold. I'm not sure what would have caused this since it occurred after I simply unplugged the mic one day and plugged it back in the next and boom it happened.
Does anyone know how to resolve this? I tried with a new chord as well and that didn't fix the issue...

I'm not sure if this will help but open the Audio Midi setup utility click the on the Yeti or Advance USB device whatever it shows up as. See if you can change the settings to 44100 and 24 bit.

  • Why doesn't my MacBook Pro recognize Blue Yeti microphone?

I have a Blue Yeti microphone and when I plug it though USB to my MacBook Pro I can't find it. I have my internal sound input only.
    I use Yosemite OS X.

You're looking at the Sound input in System Settings?  Should simply work.  If you plug headphones direction into the Yeti, do you hear anything?

  • Blue Yeti Microphone (3 months later... no answer ...

I'm not going to bother to say "Good Evening" because I'm very angry! I bought a Blue Yeti from Chat and Vision, a Skype-Certified store, 3 months ago and it came faulty. 3 xxxxxxx MONTHS! I sent you e-mails and tickets through your Returns ticket system. I even sent you an e-mail which I quote:
"Good evening, According to the received e-mail about my complaint, I'll attach two photos about my item's fault. According to my father's explanation - he's a mechanical engineer - the problem is from the side hoop from the mic's stand, it has a big gap, creating a big tension on the screw zone, damaging the screw's fillets. As I described, the mic's screws don't tight making the microphone loose/unstable. With this fault, I can't use it. On the photos you can see the side hoop and screw's fillets. I don't want to return this item. I want to repair it. Can it be repaired here, in Portugal? How much is going to cost? (The microphone is one month old!!)"
This was sent 2 MONTHS AGO (23/10/2014). If I won't get an imediat answer I will actuate the legal methods and I will spread through the World Wide Web your kind of behavior. I need help from Skype.

    Hello
    1. Are you addressing Skype or Chat&Vision?
    2. As you are located in Portugal you would be best placed to answer those questions.
We can contact Chat&Vision on your behalf if you wish.
    Please clarify the above points.

  • When testing the microphone with Skype, the pla back sounds garbled.

Problem with microphone testing Skype.  When testing the sound and play back it sounds garbled.

    Hello,
    Thanks for your post!
What computer model do you have? Are you using the internal MIC or any external one? Have you checked the volume of that mic and try to decrease it? Also low down the volume from your speakers or from your default playback device.
What operating system do you have?
Please provide this additional information to understand more your setup and if the cause of it is settings related.
By the way, did it worked before? If its the first time, you can also try to update the sound driver or even remove it from device manager and having the device detected again, maybe in that way it will resolve the problem.
    Thanks,

  • Using an external microphone with a Mac Pro Tower

I have a Mac Pro tower with OS 10.4.11 and I have a question regarding recording sound through an external microphone.
I own a microphone with a 1/4" jack and when I plug it into the designated input on the back of my tower, I'm not getting any sound. I've troubleshooted with a couple different microphones and none seem to work. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some sort of configuration that I have to do when using a mic?
    Please help!

I'm sorry, but that's not really my area of expertise. If you are planning to use this for simple voice-recording you could try the Griffin iMic device which helps provide both pre-amplification and impedance matching between a mini-plug mic and a USB port for sound input. I've used it recording music from a boom-box to a MacBook.
The tech specs state that the audio line-level in port is:
Input impedance greater than 20,000 ohms
Input level: Max 2 V rms (+8.2 dbµ)
I would look for a mic that meets those specifications. MacSpeech.com has several microphone/headset recommendations for use with their Dictate and iListen voice recognition software. I would think that their suggestions would be useful.

  • Blue Yeti microphone being activated by OS - won't stay muted!

I upgraded to Yosemite last night and I love it but for one very annoying bug: I use a Blue Yeti USB microphone as my input device, but since it has such an active diaphragm I keep it muted using the front mute button (turning the input to zero doesn't quite do it) to prevent feedback. Since upgrading, there are a huge number of applications that "un-mute" the mic without my input. Anything, it seems, that might potentially use a microphone activates it. As a result, if I have music playing I will suddenly have the mic feeding back without my consent - very annoying! Is there a fix to this? Any ideas?

It seems that any time a system sound of any kind is played it trips the mute switch. Very annoying.

  • EMU 1212 Microphone with Skype?

    Hello my dear readers,
I want to use a microphone with my emu1212 audio interface, that is connected via an audio mixer. the signal reaches the interface properly and can be recorded with reaper with "send to asio", but i also want to use it in skype. windows and skype only offer "wave" as recording source. if i insert "send to wave" in the microphone input channel, nothing happens. i tried to do this step by step tutorial, but this did not work either. The recording source "wave" offered by windows seems to be dead, there is no amplitude at any time.
i hope you can help me.
    kind regards.
edit: here are pictures of my settings. "I/O card in" is the connection to the microphone, which does have an amplitude as you see in the picture.

  • How do I use an external microphone with iPhone Facetime?

Model of iphone doesn't matter to me.  I have an Iphone 4S or Iphone 5 to use.  I am specifically trying to use a wireless microphone set with Facetime so I can get better audio quality at a distance.  Of course, I have a mount for my phone so it's pointed toward me.  Can anyone figure out how I can bypass the internal microphones and use and external?  I have already tried plugging into the jack on the phone, but no luck.
If there is some sort of adapter to plug into the Lightning port or 30pin that might bypass the external mics when using Facetime then I can go with that too.
    Any help is appreciated!

    Hello lizarose,
You might consider recording your video in the QuickTime Player application. The QuickTime Player application will allow you to control input sources for both your video and audio (allowing you to choose the Fast Track for audio and the iSight camera for video).
Once in QuickTime Player, choose 'New Movie Recording' from the File menu. In the resulting window, on the controls bar (near the record button), there will be a small triangle. This triangle will produce a menu allowing you to choose your Fast Track as the desired microphone.
Once the video is recorded and satisfactory, from the File menu, you can choose 'Export To,' then 'iMovie...' After the export process completes, open iMovie (close and re-open if necessary), and you should be prompted to import the video into iMovie. If, for some reason, iMovie is not an option, the video can be exported to the Desktop or the Movies folder (if exporting, choose 'Movie' for Format), then imported into iMovie via the File menu, 'Import,' 'Movies...'

  • Voice Over beeps in FCE using Blue Snowball Microphone

    Hello,
I would like to use a Blue Snowball Microphone, the same one advertised for sale on the Apple Store, to record voice overs in FCE. I have had some success, but there are beeps in the recording. How can I avoid those when doing voice overs?
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    Hi(Bonjour)!
YOur voice over captured audio needs rendering because the rate do not match of your easy setup (for audio).
Pay attention that your settings in voice over window is set to 48000 hz rate. See pages 625 and ss. of your user's manual (in the help menu).
