Using bookmarks

i want to be able to include Bookmarks in a pdf file. I understand how to create them and that works perfectly.
Hiw can I indent a bookmark under an existing bookmark. i.e
                             Bookmark-1
                                  sub-bookmark-2
                                  sub-bookmark-3
Also, I wnat Acrobat reader to open the bookmarked pdf file with the bookmarks showing. How do I do that?

How do I get my 8 most-used bookmarks to show on the bookmark toolbar in version 29?

I was automatically upgraded to Version 29. I have always used the bookmark toolbar to keep my 8 most-used bookmarks one click away. I can't figure out how to do that any more.
There are other changes that I dislike, and the classic theme restorer add-on was able to take care of the. But this one item is a deal breaker for me. Fortunately, I found and downloaded version 28 today. If I can't get this issue resolved, I will step back for now.

What is the problem, exactly? Is the Bookmarks Toolbar not displayed? Simply right-click an empty area of the tab bar and make sure "Bookmarks Toolbar" is checked.

How to edit text in MS Word HEADER using bookmarks?

I've been using the ActiveX calls to edit text in Word docs for a while. I assumed there was no trick to doing it in the header of a Word doc, but there seems to be no way to get into the header via LabView ActiveX calls.
Regretably, Word also makes this tricky. I found these VBA hints:
Bookmark, Go to Bookmark:

I have been using the first one and I was hoping one of the last three would be simple to implement, but there does not seem to be a way to do any of them via LabView.
I do not have the reports tool kit, but I have seen nothing to indicate that it is possble with that either.
So, is it possible to edit the headed of a MS Word doc?

I'm also not happy about word and LabVIEW and I hope that there will be much more improvement with the open document format... right know I have to use a word document template .
However, here is a code I use to fill bookmarks even in the header. I found that somehow the bookmark vanish after manipulation and you have to add it again.

MS Word Reports-how to use bookmarks

I am using the labview report writing tools to produce an MS Word report. I have produced several headings, information strings, tables etc. I need to use "Word Insert Object.vi" to place certain objects such as excel charts at certain places in the word report. This VI uses bookmarks in word to point at the right locations (the VI also seems incredibly limited in that it provides only a file reference as a source to obtain the object from - but no way of referring to which object in the file?? Does this mean I have to go to all the trouble to separate out my source objects to each reside in their own exclusive word doc? The documentation for "Word Insert Object" suggests you can extract objects from excel, but doesnt say how to identify the objects. Can anyone enlighten me?
The only way I can see to set up the bookmarks in the word doc to send my objects to is to setup a template doc with the bookmarks and pagebreaks in place as a starting point before I use the labview report generation vis to place everything else. The objects insert quite happily at the required bookmarks (since the vi has an input which specifies the bookmark to use), but now everything else that used to form my title page, tables, text etc are pushed to the end of the template document (i.e. after all of the bookmarks and pagebreaks structured into my template). None of the other report generation vis (insert tables, text etc) seem to have any ability to point at bookmark locations.
I can only hope for 2 possibilities here:
1) that there is a way to make the non-bookmark capable vis jump to a certain location in the document (by forcing the cursor there somehow)
2) that there is a way to programatically place bookmarks in the document as I write the various parts of it from labview, to which I can then insert objects at the end of the process.
Can anyone enlighten me about the approach to use here?

Hi Fred,
Well to answer both of the numerated questions, I can think of two ways that would most likely fix your problem.
1) Find the activeX call that can place bookmarks or move the cursor in your word document.
2) Make a macro that can do the same thing.
Has anyone in the community ever attempted this?

Don't assume people automatically know all your technical terms! Before you talk about, e.g., "status bar", it would be really helpful to show or tell us WHERE IT IS.
Since you made basic things like "history" and "bookmarks" harder to find, I'm back to using "CTRL H" for history -- is there a keystroke method to get to the bookmarks?

Portal framework when using bookmarks

Hi
When we use bookmarks to run reports, the portal framework does not show (the portal menu). It is only the BI template that is shown just like when you run a template from WAD. Is it possible to direct the user to the report with the portal framework around the WAD template when using bookmarks?

I do not want to create confusion but PFCG would not be helpful. If users want to run the report for different variables and different drilldowns. It would not be possible to keep record of their each bookmark and adding it to the Role.

Moving pages using bookmarks

Was hoping to receive some assistance with regard to this question, as I am having difficulty finding an answer online. I know how to move pages in a pdf using drag & drop in the page navigation tab at the left side of the pdf. But in a large document this may be cumbersome. Is there a way to use bookmarks to move pages? In other words, by dragging and dropping bookmarks (or headers) can I change the order of the pdf? If not, is there any other way to easily move groups of pages in a large pdf? thanks in advance for any assistance.

Error in UOMs when using Bookmarks

Hi,
I have a Forecast Consumption report which has 4 tabs: Data Analysis (which gives UOMs in KGs) , U.S. UOM View (which converts UOMs to LBs), Chart Display and Report Information.
An interesting problem faced by an User. When the User runs the Forecast Consumption report from the web, he is able to see UOMs in KGs in Data Analysis tab and in LBs under U.S. UOM View, which is expected.
But when he tries to execute the report using bookmarks, he is able to view only KGs in both the tabs in Data Analysis tab and under U.S. UOM View.
Have checked all the settings and everything seems fine but cannot figure out why U.S. UOM is showing in KGs when the report is run via bookmark. Has anybody encountered this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Link of PDF using bookmark, page

I would like to create links of PDF using bookmark, page, as below.

I created the link (HTMLResources/doc.pdf#page=3), but it opens 1st page of PDF.
Is it possible for using something like #page=3 or #nameddest=Chapter6?

Earlier we faced issue of 'NPE', while adding markups and it was show stopper for that we had to give this fix and now few markups are missing.
With the reference to the SR, SR 3-10406750311 : During creating Annotation dimensions getting Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.NullP we were asked to implement Listeners.
Please let us know if we can have any further fix to our current code.

Bookmarks saved to a uniquely named bookmarks "folder" using "Bookmark All Tabs" not exporting.

I used the Bookmark All Tabs feature to save a group of bookmarks into bookmark "folders". I did that by right-clicking on one of the tabs, choosing "Bookmark All Tabs". For "Folder Name" I entered "Watches". The default entry in the "Folder" field was "Bookmarks Menu", which I did not change. When I look at my list of bookmarks there is a separate "folder" named "Watches" that contains all the bookmarks I saved. So far so good. The problem came when I used "Export Bookmarks to HTML..." When I opened the "bookmarks" folder I noticed that the name "Watches" appeared on the page, but none of the actual "Watches" bookmarks were there. I thought that maybe they were contained somewhere within the bookmarks file, but I just could not see them. However, after I imported the bookmarks into IE none of the "Watches" bookmarks were there.
Why are the "Watches" bookmarks not included within the exported "bookmarks" file? I've searched Google but haven't seen where anyone else has mentioned this problem.
Incidentally, I have other bookmarks I've saved the same way (i.e., "Bookmark All Tabs"), and none of them are being exported either. Also, doing the export with all add-ons disabled made no difference.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Can you generate a Table of Contents using bookmarks?

Hi,
I am a newbie to InDesign and am probably missing the obvious but...
I am creating a document in InDesign and want to generate a Table of Contents. I have just created a de facto ToC with Bookmarks for the exported PDF version of the file, but there seems to be no way to take this information and use it to creat an actual ToC in the ID file itself. My bookmark list contains the information for all the chapter and sub headings along with the page locations, all the data I need to create my ToC, but I can't find a way to do this. I don't understand why I have to use paragraph styles to set this up? It is overly complicated for my needs, added to that it is duplicating my work. If I have to set up paragraph styles for the print version and bookmarks for the PDF version, why can't one set of information be used to generate both version of a Toc?

You don't consider 100 pages a long doc? Ouch. If it needs a TOC, I'd say that's pretty definitive for it being long.
I know users who set up styles for even one-page projects. I figure it's worth setting up a style for any formatting that will repeat more than twice, regardless of document length. It's pretty fast using the format/select/define style method of formatting text the way you want, then selecting it and choosing "New Style" from the appropriate panel.

How to use bookmarks in Pages

I am working with a very large document in Pages and would like to create bookmarks with headings and text that go under those headings. I am not getting the links to work when I try inserting a bookmark. Can someone explain how to link from one part of the page to another?

You select the text you want to bookmark:
Menu > Insert > Bookmark
The text has to be in the default text area, between the margins, of a Word Processing template.
If it is not working, you have selected placeholder text or text that is already a link or text inside an object.
Once you have created a bookmark you can then link back to it using a Hyperlink in the Links Inspector.

Garbled characters when using bookmark fast searches

and set keyword bk.When I search chinese words the search words become garbled characters.For example,I type"bk 内存" in the address bar to search,and it turns out the search words become garbled characters"鍐呭瓨".The search result address is "http://bk.baidu.com/notexists?word=内存",if I replace the %s with the search words and type it in the address bar,it turns out OK.Chrome do not have such problem.

The difference seems to be this HTTP request (first 4 RC and second in 3.6). 
That first code is the result of encodeURIComponent. 
I don't know how the second is encoded, but it looks like a bug in Firefox 4.

I want to use bookmarks but have no sync number haven had one for over a year . could never recover it.

I must like Firefox because I've spent the last 20 minutes just trying to report this so that I can get to bookmarks and history that's not including the 20 minutes I spend going through FAQ I don't care about the old Sync number that I use to have and I don't care if I ever get a new sink number but I would like to be able to use all the features in Firefox why would you not add these things to Firefox so everybody could use it and then decide to add something to it and see if they want to not a mandatory thing that you have to hunt for for over an hour trying to figure out how to do it just so you can get the basic functionality of the normal web browser

So you want to use Firefox Sync to synchronize the bookmarks between your various devices, but haven't ever used it? [[How do I set up Firefox Sync?]] can help
