Using Bootcamp to Run Windows

Ok, ponder me this, I loaded VMfusion on my machine added the windows system disk, added printer drivers and everything works wonderfully. I went over to a friends house and used bootcamp to load his windows system disk (XP2). During the process, you are suppose to load the Leopard disk to obtain drivers for windows, however here's the catch. When you are loading the windows system disk, the machine thinks it is in a windows environment, therefore you cannot use the disc eject button on your machine because it is a MAC command not recognized by windows. Since there is no manual eject button on the DVD/CD, how are you suppose to eject the windows system disk and then load the leopard disk.
I'll be really interested in the answer to this question, I'm assuming that the Apple people didn't take this into consideration when they designed these machines, hopefully I'm wrong. As a 25 year PC user I am more than please with my new MAC and will make recommendations to all of my friends to switch over. The key factor in my purchase was that the MAC can now run windows based programs. I still have my PC and laptop running XP (Vista was another reason I switched), but eventually I'll want to get a MAC book.

Kappy, thanks much for the reply, it was helpful and now that I think about it so simple. Thanks much

No idea if Windows will do it, but you can run Windows without Bootcamp & have OSX available at the same time, which should give you all the Monitors that OSX uses.

    Hello Everyone,
I have a MacBook older model with me.I am running 10.7.6 on that, I was trying to use BootCamp to install windows on my mac. Since BootCamp can only work on a single Volume, I partitioned my Hard Disk to one volume.
Using BootCamp I installed windows and everything worked fine. After installing windows and testing everything, I switched back to OS X and this time I tried to make another partition on my single portioned Mac volume and named it Backup. That too worked. Now I have three Volumes
    1)Development2)Backup3)BootCamp.
Next when I switched to Windows, It should the classic error, No Bootable device found, please insert a Bootable CD and press any key. When I tried to enter my Mac OS X install DVD and by pressing option key, it does not show me the proper Mac OS X development volume. It keeps going back to the No bootable device found message.
Any help will be much appreciated

you can't add a partition in between - you put Windows to a new partition number.
    GPT (GUID)
    EFI
    Mac HFS
    Lion Recovery
    Windows
And now you have two HFS
One partition and one Windows (plus Lion Recovery).
If you were to have more, it can't be before Windows for one thing.

  • Anyone use VMware to run windows on a intel macboon pro

I am looking for a reliable emulator to run widows as an application in my macbook pro.
Does anyone have any experience with the VM WARE player or such.
    Any help is appriciated.
    Happy Holidays All,

I use Parallels to run Vista and XP Pro. However it is not nessecary to run emulation software any longer on the mac platform, since Intel processors make it possible to run these OS's natively.
While I do use Parallels to run Windows. For the few moments i really do need to do such a silly thing, Bootcamp is MUCH better to use because Parallels emulates windows, and Bootcamp literally lets you partition the HD for a space to install the OS for real. If anyone is wondering, IMO Bootcamp is a bit more of an inconvienant because you have to reboot into the other partition, Parallels is quicker because it can be opened in its own window, and boot very fast. BUT Paralells is a bit quirky in its operation/emulation of WIndows. BC is not at all and runs as you would expect it to on any Intel computer.

    Hi,
If you trying connect two Universal apps through Bluetooth, can you check if the
Windows 8.1 Bluetooth RFComm sample runs fine on both the devices? I successfully tested the Windows 8.1 Bluetooth RFComm sample on Laptop (Windows 8.1) and Windows Phone 8.1 (paired).
Make sure the service which you are trying to advertise/listen is supported by both the devices.

Install the required Windows drivers: Boot Camp Support Software 5.0.5033. Download this link preferably from Windows. Otherwise, download onto a FAT formatted USB disk from which you can copy to your Windows system.

  • I have an old (read ancient) Apple Laserwriter 12/640 PS laser printer that I want to print to using my PC (running Windows 7). Suggestions?

I have an old (read ancient) Apple Laserwriter 12/640 PS laser printer - that still prints exceptionally well - that I want to print to using my PC (running Windows 7). Suggestions? While using Windows XP Pro, I used PC MacLan's version 9.01 and it worked beautifully. PC Maclan is no longer in business. Windows 7, however, doesn't even recognize any Apple printers in any of its lookups. Suggestions?

The LaserWriter 12/640 PS is a PostScript Level 2 and PCL5 printer with support for LPD (http://support.apple.com/kb/ta21876). How is the printer connected today? An external cable adapter (such as the Apple Ethernet Twisted-Pair Transceiver Model M0437) would allow Ethernet. Providing that an appropriate printer driver can be found (it may be worth checking whether a universal driver or a driver for a similar HP printer could be used), it should not be impossible to set up LPR printing under Windows 7.

  • Clock/time incorrect after upgrade to bootcamp 5 running windows 8-64

Since I did the upgrade to bootcamp 5 running windows 8-64, (which solved all the previous problems), the clock/time changes by itself to be off by hours frequently throughout the day.

I'd suggest you upgrade to OSB10.4.0.1.0 release.
Webtool taking ages is probably related to some other OS issue, check /var/log/messages and whatever and check your DNS settings are all correct.
What about obtool commands, are they also slow?
    Thanks

  • Is it possible to use bootcamp to install windows on a flash drive (rather than an HD partition)?

I would like to run windows on my Mac preferably from a flash drive, or an external drive. I don't want to install it locally because I don't have enough HD space. I've found a few sites and videos that show you how to do this from a PC (like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh-F6dcXmsE) but I don't have a PC and I'd like to know if it's possible to use bootcamp to accomplish this.
Thanks very much for any help! Would be greatly appreciated.

If you have Windows-to-Go, it can be installed on an external disk, otherwise Windows licensing restricts it. Bootcamp has additional checks to enforce such licensing.
You can always install it on an internal drive first and then put the drive in a USB enclosure.

  • New to Bootcamp, should I use bootcamp to run my PC audio softs?

Hi I'm new to bootcamp. I'm planning to use my MBP to run PC audio softwares daws like sonar or cubase, with firewire audio interface. I don't know if this is a good idea, will this sound the same as a real PC? Will there be a lot of problems?
How about if I play a 3d big video game on bootcamp xp sp3 on my MBP, will it run as fast as the same cpu, memory, graphics card PC?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
running Windows natively (with BootCamp) on a Mac is like running Windows on any other given PC and it uses the available hardware to its full power.
There are some reports of trouble with Firewire interfaces and BootCamp Windows, so you should check the manufacturer website and forums for such reports.
BootCamp Windows is your only choice to run 3D video games.
The virtualization apps there are (Parallels, VMWare Fusion or VirtualBox) cannot handle these games in a satisfactory manner
