Using both 8800GT ports

So I got a beautiful acer lcd monitor, and I wanted to set up my old Dell crt as a 2nd monitor for palettes & whatnot. The problem is, there's not enough room for both the acer plug and the vga - dvi adaptor I had been using on the crt on the 8800 card - or so it seems to me. I wasn't about to force anything for fear of breakage, but I'm wondering what the issue is. Do I need to go online and find a slimmer connector? And how would I know? Others don't seem to have this problem.... Or am I looking at the whole thing wrong, and I shouldn't do this for fear of overworking the video card?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your Mac Pro came with a nVidia card it should have included a short DVI extension cable with a narrow plug, which will allow the use of both DVI ports. Look in the shipping box that the Mac Pro came in. If you can't find the cable, you can buy a non-Apple narrow DVI to VGA adapter for a lot less than a new DVI extension cable. Here's one for $7.95, including shipping.

  • Issue Using both Firewire Ports on 24" iMac

I just got a new 24" iMac with the 3.06 processor. I intend to use it with Pro Tools and other music making software. I have an audio interface that is firewire only and an external hard drive (where I store my audio files) that is both firewire and USB. The problem is that I when I use both firewire ports (800 and 400) at the same time, my Pro Tools starts acting up. And I found one post stating that this was a known issue with the 24". But that was back in May and I thought it would have been resolved by now. Anyway, when I use the USB port on my hard drive instead of the firewire, everything works. Also, on my 17" iMac PPC G5 everything works just fine on there, including using both firewire ports a the same time. Finally, I've got the latest updates on all devices involved. Has anyone experienced this problem or have any knowledge of it? Thanks in advance.

I've got a similar problem. I've got a WD external drive connected via FW800 and an Mbox pro 2 audio interface connected via FW400 to my 24" mid 2007 iMac. They both power on (the mbox gets it's power from the iMac) and are recognised by the iMac. However, the WD drive seems to take dominance at some point during start up. The reason I know this is because I was watching the LED on the Mbox light up as I sent it signal from the guitar and then it suddenly stopped lighting up. I tried daisy chaining the mbox to the WD but outcome was the same. Then tried chaining the WD drive to the Mbox (this meant the WD drive was now down to FW400 speed). It worked!!!.............until the next time I started up the computer. The WD drive wasn't recognised by the iMac.
I'm not impressed with the iMac's inability to deal with devices from both it's ports. Why put them on the machine if they can't handle it?
I bought the WD drive to work at FW800 speed and don't want to have to submit to USB 2.0 if I can help it.
    Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks

  • Need to use both the ports of PRIME-NCS-APL-K9

    Hi all,
I am having NCS prime appliance. In that i have two Ethernet ports. I want to use both the ports for connectivity .
Can anyone please confirm that is it possible to bond these to ports and assign a single ip to these ports.
I wants to have redundancy in case of failure of links.
    Thanks in advance ,
    Selva

    Hi Selva:
This isn't possible today.  Whether a physical or virtual NCS/Prime Infrastructure appliance, the two NICs are separate and cannot be etherchanneled, NIC Teamed or combined in any other way with one IP address covering both of them. When both NICs are used, one will be for reaching the GUI for access and the other for sending SNMP traffic over to the managed devices, but most folks use just one.
If you need this functionality, please contact your Cisco SE, Cisco account team or Cisco authorized wireless reseller, and discuss it with them.  The sales side of Cisco has procedures in place to accumulate customer inputs like this across all the customers they serve, and to get that input forwarded to the various business units within Cisco for possible inclusion in future releases of Cisco's products.

  • Aggregate Bandwith of Stacking two Sg500 using both stacking ports?

Is the bandwidth 2Gbps when using both stacking ports to connect just two switches together?

No. If you're using both ports in a two-switch stack, you're using a ring topology and Fast Stack Link Failover will cause the inactive link to be used if the active one fails. Only 1Gb of bandwidth will be available on a single link.
If you want to maximize the bandwidth between the stack members and the switches have close physical proximity, you can use dedicated copper stacking cables (SFP-H10GB-CU1M) to get 5Gb out of each link.

My MBA will not allow me to use both usb ports at the same time. as soon as i plug the second in the first is disabled. trying to use a modem and printer.

What kind of peripherals are you connecting? Sometimes if an external device is drawing too much power, then it will shut down one of the USB ports. Make a test connecting two usb flash drives, it should work ok.

  • Using both usb ports the macbook doesn't charge, is that normal?

Hi, as headline says I'm using both the usb ports of my macbook pro 13", with an external HD and an externat audio interface. The macbook is attached to the charger, but it's not charging (i guess it's using the power without charging). The Macbook it's not fully charged.
    thank you

And what happens if you disconnect everything from the USB ports? BTW, your charger will kick in when the battery charge falls below 94%.

  • 27" iMac and two external displays -- using both TB ports best?

    Greetings to all.
Currently I have a 2011 Mac Mini to which is connected a 30" Dell display via a Dual Link DVI adapter, and another Dell 21" display via HDMI. I'm planning on getting the 27" iMac and want to check the best way to connect these two displays. While the 30" will still use the Dual Link DVI adapter, should I connect the 21" display via the iMac's second TB port, or via HDMI?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The iMac hasn't got a HDMI port, so you will have to connect your second monitor to your Thunderbolt port, using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter in order to be able to connect it to the computer

  • Using both MDP and Mini DVI on 2009 Mini

Can anyone confirm that you can use both video ports to mirror on the 2009 mini? Or is it an either/or situation?

No-one can confirm it until there is an actual 2009 model mini to test. However, all the evidence so far indicates the new mini will support two displays.
    The page at http://www.apple.com/macmini/features.html includes:
There’s nothing quite like seeing your photos and movies on a big, beautiful display. Unless, of course, you add a second. Mac mini comes with both mini-DVI and Mini DisplayPort output ports, so you can connect up to two displays....

  • I have 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute?

I just bought a 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute any work at all?  I read where on a PC they would work together, but on a MAC they do not.
I read that Display Port has higher band width than DVI, NEC monitors for best performance they recommend using DIsplay Port.
When I was setting this up I looked at a Nvidia Quadro 4000, unfortunately it was for PC, it had 2 Display Ports, in the Mac version they reduce it to one.  I did not think there could be a difference.
Mainly want to use it for CS6 and LR4.
    How to proceed???
I do not want to use the Quadro 4000 for both, that would not optimize both monitors, one DP and 1 DVI.  Using just the 5770 would work but I do not think the 4000 would be doing anything, and the 5770 has been replaced by the 5870.more bandwidth.
Any ideas, I am a Mac newbie, have not ever tried a Mac Pro, just bought off ebay and now I have these problems.
As a last resort I could sell both and get a 5870.  That would work, I'm sure of that, it's just that I wanted the better graphics card.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

  • Is it possible to use both an ILB and an ELB (listening on the same port) in the same Azure cloud service?

I'm building a test Lync deployment on Azure; yes, I know this is not supported, hence "test".
Lync Front-End servers expose two set of web services, one for internal users and one for external ones; they listen on different ports (443 and 4443) on the same servers; when external services are published, you need a reverse proxy or a port forwarding
in order to map port 443 of a public IP address to port 4443 of the Front-End server(s). When you have multiple Front-End servers in a pool, you also need to load-balance them.
So, a typical Lync deployment looks like this:
           Internal users
                     |
                   443
                      |
              Internal LB
            192.168.0.20
            443         443
              |               |
Lync FE 1     Lync FE 2
    192.168.0.21 192.168.0.22
              |               |
          4443        4443
              External LB
           Public IP Address
                     |
                  443
                     |
           External Users
This should be easily replicated in Azure, as it supports both external load balancing and internal load balancing. They are even supported together in the same cloud service, so this configuration should be easy. However, it looks like "should"
    is the keyword here.
After creating the external load balanced endpoint (which listens on external port 443 and forwards to port 4443 on the servers), I'm trying to create an internal load balancer and add internal endpoints to is; however, while the ILB can be created successfully,
adding an internal endpoint listening on port 443 and forwarding to port 443 on the servers fails miserably, with an error stating that port 443 is already in use by another endpoint:
Update-AzureVM : BadRequest : Port 443 is already in use by one of the endpoints in this deployment. Ensure that the port numbers are unique across endpoints within a deployment.
    For reference, my commands are:
Add-AzureInternalLoadBalancer -InternalLoadBalancerName "LyncILB" -ServiceName "LyncFrontEnd" -SubnetName "LabSubnet" -StaticVNetIPAddress 192.168.0.20
    (This completes successfully)
    Get-AzureVM LYNCFE1 | Add-AzureEndpoint -Name "Https-Int" -Protocol "tcp" -LocalPort 443 -PublicPort 443 -LBSetName "HttpsIntLB" -DefaultProbe -InternalLoadBalancerName "LyncILB"
    (This fails)
The existing external endpoint is configured as such:
    Get-AzureVM LYNCFE1 | get-azureendpoint
    LBSetName : HttpsExtLB
    LocalPort : 4443
    Name : HTTPS-Ext
    Port : 443
    Protocol : tcp
    Vip :
    ProbePath :
    ProbePort : 4443
    ProbeProtocol : tcp
    ProbeIntervalInSeconds : 15
    ProbeTimeoutInSeconds : 31
    EnableDirectServerReturn : False
    Acl : {}
    InternalLoadBalancerName :
    IdleTimeoutInMinutes :
    LoadBalancerDistribution :
The error doesn't even make a lot of sense; the external load balancer listens on a public IP address, while the internal load balancer listens on a private IP address in the internal network; there
shouldn't be any conflict here... however it looks like there is one instead.
Why doesn't this work? Am I doing something wrong, or is Azure networking just being silly as usual again?

    Hello Massimo Pascucci,
The issue that you are facing when creating an endpoint with internal loadbalancer is the limitation of not allowing same ports to be listening under a single cloud service. This reason for this is that there is a limitation of only one private IP (Also
known as the Internal load balanced IP) per cloud service.
There is also a limitation on the Internal load balancer more than one port to be published per load balancer:

I have a macbook pro4.1 and the sound chip in it failed. My speakers and microphone no longer work. Does anyone know of an external speaker and microphone set that plugs into the USB port so I can continue to use both of these functions and not have to pay to have the entire main board replaced. Preferably something under $100.

I don't think you're likely to find a set of external speakers that come with a microphone and plug directly into a USB port. There are USB audio cards that look like tiny flash drives but have microphone and headphone ports in them, to which you can connect a typical two-plug Windows PC headset with a microphone, or else you can connect external speakers and a stand-alone microphone. Those adapters typically cost under $10. I don't know anything about the quality of sound that can be expected from them.
I have a Griffin iMic, which is much the same idea but larger, a bit more expensive (retail~$40), and perhaps delivers somewhat better sound quality (I hope so, but I don't know because I've never had occasion to try one of the little ones).
