Using Bridge to edit underclass photographs

I normally take four or five images of each student when photographing a school or event. When using Bridge in the filmstrip mode, I use to be able to click on several images and they would always show up in file number sequence in enlarged format no matter what order I selected them . In CS6, the large images are displayed in the order they are selected. Not by file number sequence. Is there a way to set CS6 to preform the way CS3 did in this aspected?

You have to set the sort order to filename and select the first file and either with shift down the last file of the selection or with cmd (mac) to select each file for the wanted selection.
The first selected file shows first in the window, after that it should respect the sort order selected. I believe the path bar offering an easy option to select different settings showed first in CS4 and I really do't remember how to set the sort order in CS3 but probably in the menu'View'  or with right mouse click menu you can check this.

  • Photoshop elements 12 using layers to edit a photo

    I am having trouble figuring out how to use layers to edit digital photographs. Based on the online tutorials I've viewed, I'm under the impression that in order to edit parts of a photograph without affecting the original background image, I am supposed to create a layer for each set of edits I want to make and then merge these layers together to form a complete edited image with all the touch ups I want to make. I am also under the impression that any edits I make to the layers I create should not be showing up in the original background image, otherwise I have no way of comparing the original to the edited parts of the image to see if everything looks the way I want. Is there any way to make edits to image layers without these changes showing up in the original image and if so, how do I do it? Thanks ahead of time for your help.
    Anthony

    I suggest you select Help> Key Concepts and read up on Layers.
    The simplest way to preserve your original image is to either save a copy and work on that, or duplicate the background layer and work on the duplicate plus other layers you stack on top. Then the quickest way to view original v edited is to Alt-Click on the eye symbol of the background layer - this will turn off all the other layers. Alt-Click the eye again to turn them all back on.

    Hello- I am a Canon photographer.  I use Bridge (CS5) to process my raw files to jpegs.  I am taking on a second photographer who shoots Nikon (D800) and i am not currently able to see or process his images.  Can you please help?  thank you!

    According to Adobe:
    D800
    NEF
    6.7, 7.1
    4.1
    D800E
    NEF
    6.7, 7.1
    4.1
    The fact that they have 2 versions of ACR means that initial support for the D800 was added in 6.7  but that complete support was finalized in 7.1 (the 4.1 in the chart is for Lightroom)
    I'm not sure that this means there are missing features, but rather refinements and optimized settings were added in 7.1
    However, ACR 7.1 requires CS6.
    As Dag mentioned, you can also use the latest version of DNG Converter to convert the D800 files to DNGs which will be able to be opened in older versions of ACR.
    The DNG converter only works on folders of files, not individual files. So just select the folder and convert. All the files in the folder will be converted.

    I want to share a folder of images with a client who is also using bridge. I want the client to be able to edit metadata and rate the image. How can I do this?

    Metadata won't be a problem as long as you use Bridge to copy the file from within Bridge to whatever media (flash drive, CD/DVD. email, etc) you plan to use for the sharing.
    I'm not sure about the Label part.  Maybe it will travel along too.

    Description: Multiple Paths error while using Bridge Table
    1. I have a urgent customer encounterd a design issue and customer was trying to add 3 logical joins between SDI_GPOUP_MEMBERSHIP and these 3 tables (FACT_HOSPITAL_FINANCE_DTLS, FACT_HOSPITAL_BEDS_UTILZN and FACT_HOSPITAL_ATRIBUTES)
    2. They found found out by adding these 3 joins, they ended with circular error.

    [nQSError: 15009] Multiple paths exist to table DIM_SDI_CUSTOMER_DEMOGRAPHICS. Circular logical schemas are not supported.
    In response to this circular error, the developer was able to bypass the error using aliases, but this is not desired by client.
    3. They want to know how to avoid this error totally without using alias table and suggest a way to resolve the circular join(Multiple Path) error.
    Appreciated if someone can give some pointer or suggestion as the customer is in stiff deadline.
    Thanks

  • Photo Gallery using Bridge CS4 - trying to follow instructions, but no luck

    I'm running Photoshop CS4 Extended, and am trying to figure out how to create a Photo Gallery.
    Adobe instructions for using Bridge to create a photo gallery say this:
    Adobe Output Module provides a variety of templates for your gallery, which you can select using the Output panel. Each template has one or more style options, which you can select and customize to suit your needs.
    Important: Though gallery previews display a maximum of 10 files, your complete gallery will appear when you save or upload it.
    Select the files or the collection or folder that contains the images you want to include in the web gallery.
    Choose Window > Workspace > Output.
    If the Output workspace is not listed, select Adobe Output Module in Startup Scripts preferences.
    PROBLEMS:
    (1)In Bridge, there is no such item as Output under Window > Workspace.
    (2)In Photoshop, there is no such item as "Startup Scripts" in Edit  > Preferences.
    (3)In the Adobe CS4 Sample Scripts/JavaScript directory, there is no such item as Adobe Output Module.
    There must be some other secret that the instructions forgot to mention... but what IS it???

    Finally noticed I was running Bridge CS3 --- my old shortcut apparently still pointed to that version, even though I do have CS4 installed.
    When I launch Bridge from within Photoshop, version CS4 does come up.
    Will now go explore further, using the proper release...

  • Why not use Bridge CS4 with PsCS3?

    I will post this on both the Bridge and Ps User-to-User forums as it applies to both.
    I have PsCS3 and PsCS4 installed side by side in the default folders assigned by Adobe but have shifted my Bridge CS4 Cache (containing all the thumbnails and previews) from C:Documents and Settings\etc to a subfolder within My Documents, which I had previously moved to my F: drive - my main data drive.
    I have found Bridge CS4 to be much more stable than Bridge CS3. Additionally, Bridge CS4 has certain features which make it more attractive and easier to use than Bridge CS3. I want to use Bridge CS4 in conjunction with PsCS3 until Adobe has sorted out the problems with PsCS4 - which at the moment is simply unuseable on my rather old and humble system.
    On my system, I seem to be able to use Bridge CS4 with PsCS3 without any problems detected so far. I even have things set up such that any JPEG, TIFF or PSD file double clicked within Bridge CS4 or within Windows Explorer (Win XP Pro SP3) automatically opens the file in PsCS3 and not PsCS4 (provided, of course, that PsCS4 is not itself already running). Furthermore, even with PsCS3 running beside Bridge CS4, from within Bridge CS4 I can open any RAW, JPEG or TIFF file in Camera Raw 5.1 and use its new features (Adjustment Brush, Graduated Filter, extra vignetting capabilities, etcetera) which were not available in the last release of Camera Raw (4.6 I think) associated with PsCS3. The only problem comes when trying to open edits made in Camera Raw 5.1 in PsCS3 using the "Open Image" button in ACR - it does nothing/won't work, this is, it won't open the image with the ACR adjustments in PsCS3. That's not a big deal for me - as I am currently not doing any work within ACR (any version) and if I needed to I could simply save the ACR edits and then open the files in PsCS4, save the files as PSDs and then open them in PsCS3 to finalise them there.
    Has anyone else had a similar experience, or does anyone else know of any reason(s) why I should not continue to use this workflow, at least in the short term?

    I've been away. Thanks John, Bart and Buko for your responses. Think you misunderstood my post Bart, but it does not matter now. John got the correct message. Buko: of course CS3 cannot use ACR 5.x - that was implicit in my post.

  • Using Bridge and LR with same folders/files

    Having organized, edited and rated my photos using Bridge CS4 but recently started getting seriously into LR3 I still want to keep that file structure, either in a transitional period or indefinitely.
    I normally use Bridge to import the photos, then spend some time creating sub-folders (one folder per event), organizing them. I'm hoping that I can add those (already organized) folders into LR, but can't figure out how. I see how I can import the photos, but I don't want that as I want to keep them all in the same location (they're all organized on the hard drive as I want them), just have LR "see" them so I can further edit and rate them. How do I do that?
    I also want LR to understand and see the edits I've made to my RAW files as well as my ratings, keywords etc.
    Are there other things I should keep in mind when having my photos work with both Bridge and LR?

    It's possible to work the way you do, but with Lr it's a bit awkward, particularly if you start editing (developing) your images in Bridge.
    You ask: " I'm hoping that I can add those (already organized) folders into Lr, but can't figure out how."
    You have to import the images. Without importing nothing can happen in Lr.
    So, open the Import Dialog. If it shows only the small window of the Import Dialog, click on the triangle in the bottom left corner, to expand the window.
    On the left side you'll see the <Source> panel. navigate to the folder in question and click on it to select it. You will see all images in this folder in the main window of the Import Dialog.
    Then in the top center of the Import Dialog select <Add>.
    <Add> is for importing images that are already on the hard drive and you do not want to change their location.
    <Move> is for importing images that are already on the hard drive and you do want to change their location.
    <Copy> is for importing images from camera / memory card.
    By selecting <Add> Lr will import the images in their present folder and will display the folder.
    Your Bridge edits will also be imported because on import Lr reads the image file and the xmp-file where Bridge has stored the metadata of your edits.
    But this is true only for import. Should you then decide for an image that has been imported in Lr to edit it in Bridge again, these edits would not automatically be visible in Lr. This is so because with imported images Lr stores all edits in its catalog, and does not display the metadata from the xmp-file where Bridge saves edits.
    But you can make Lr read and display these additional Bridge-edits by doing a <read metadata from file>. But this is problematic because <reading metadata from file> will overwrite any Lr edits.
    So you see that because of the fact that Lr works with its catalog while Bridge does not, editing images in Bridge and in Lr is a recipe for frustration. It can be done, but it's awkward and prone to mistakes.
    Therefore I would suggest to bite the bullet and henceforth use Lr as your only editor. Import images from camera in Lr, do all your editing in Lr.
    Since you are used to do edits in in Bridge Camera Raw, Lr will pose no big problems for you.
    But if you don't want to let go of Bridge right away, I'd suggest you do at least one thing: After importing the images in Lr refrain from further editing these images in Bridge.

  • Workflow "issues" with Lightroom when used to using Bridge

    Ive been using bridge & Photoshop to process and edit my RAW images for a few years now. I'd love to move over to using Lightroom to take advantage of its improved features and vastly superior response time. But Im finding working with Lightroom is more cumbersome in the processing part.
    With bridge Id find the RAW image I like, adjust it using ACR and one click brigs it into photoshop. I edit the photo and save it as a psd. Often I crop and sharpen or otherwise process the psd file and save the result as a jpg in the best directory. The latter file is typically the one I show. With Bridge doing all this is straightforward.
    With Lightroom its more involved. Using the develop module I adjust the image and hit Ctrt-E to edit the picture in Photoshop. A dialog box opens and I always select Edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments (be nice if we could say always do this dont ask me each time). The photo now opens in Photoshop but not before Lightroom has created a psd file in my RAW files directory. Why? So now I edit and save the result in my Before crop directory. I then crop and sharpen and save the result in my best directory. Of course Lightroom doesnt see either of my new photos in the B4 crop or best directory so I have to import them.
    Is there an easier workflow that Im missing? I dont want psd files in with my RAW files and I want to keep my best files separate.

    Mikepa, if you want to keep your PSD and "best files" separate from your raw files, then simply export the raw files to the format of your choice in the folder of your choice. You can later import these to Lr but in my workflow these exported images that I manipulate in Photoshop do not return to Lr. Instead I use Bridge as my TIF/PSD image manger.
    In short, Lr for RAW; Bridge for TIF/PSD. Why? I have thousands of RAW files that require the efficiencies that Lr deliver, but the far, far fewer TIF and PSD files I create are handled better in Bridge (with it's tight integration to Photoshop actions and scripts).

  • [Solved] Ask4 Student Internet, eth0-wlan0 AP using bridge

    Didn't want to 'pollute' the wiki, in case this isn't the best way of doing, what I did; but it caused me enough frustration to not document it.
    Basically, needed to create an access point using a wireless dongle to get my Nexus on the internet (Ask4's wireless routers aren't great ). Also as NAT stuff is "forbidden" on their servers/whatevers, needed to use bridging. Be warned - may kill your system/do funky stuff.
    So...
    1. Need to find out if your dongle is compatible with Master Mode (or AP mode) - loads of websites/wikis on this
    2. Install hostapd (see Arch's wiki)
    3. Create a hostapd.conf file in your home directory (just for testing - the one in /etc/hostapd is 'large'
    #change wlan0 to your wireless device
    interface=wlan0
    driver=nl80211
    ssid=test
    channel=1
    bridge=br0
    4. Create the /etc/network.d/bridge file (see Arch's wiki)
    INTERFACE="br0"
    CONNECTION="bridge"
    DESCRIPTION="Bridge wired and wireless connection"
    # Only add wired interface here, hostapd will add wireless
    BRIDGE_INTERFACES="eth0"
    IP="dhcp"
    #IP="static"
    #ADDR='10.0.0.10'
    #GATEWAY='10.0.0.1'
    #DNS='10.0.0.1'
    To get it to work with Ask4, you need eth0 to have DHCP enabled for this bit
    5. enable and start [email protected]
    6. stop dhcpcd.service
    7. Start hostapd
    hostapd ~/hostapd.conf
    to see if everything works
    8. Try connecting to the network using your device (should work)
    9. Once you've finished using it, kill the hostapd process
    10. Stop [email protected]
    11. Start [email protected] to get the internet working again.
    If everything works, you probably want to go back and edit the hostapd conf to give it some security.

    After switching from netcfg to netctl everything worked "out-of-the-box". The bridge gets to be the new standard network interface and all traffic on the machine gets directed through it. YAY

  • Batch Processing using Bridge to PhotoShop

    - I am using CS4 on a PC.
    - I shoot RAW and from Bridge I go into Camera RAW and adjust my images.
    - Usually I save each one at a time however I would like to learn how to be able to edit each photo using Bridge and Camera RAW ( I’m already doing this), then be able to take all of the photos in the directory and batch process to save as a tiff or jpg for further manipulation.
    - I was using Canon’s DPP but want to do all my work in Adobe. The process in DPP is straightforward.
    I'm sure this is simple but I can't seem to find it in the menu's or Help.
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Curt:
    Thank, this gave me the direction I needed. After a few tries I think I've got it down pat.
    Thanks again.

  • Use Bridge DOM from an AIR app-

    Hi all,
    A customer of mine wishes to have a widget to help their users deal with XMP metadata. However they don't want them to use bridge because the principe is to make the tasks as easy as possible.
    But bridge has a convenient library to edit XMP so my ambition is to find a way to get access to Bridge DOM from outside.
    Unfortunately, I can't see much workarounds. No command line, using #target bridge generates a prompt, applescript provides a do javascript" but only with strings and my first attemps scared me a bit ( working alternatively without reasons).
    So question is, do you know if it's possible to run js script for bridge from outside BRIDGE ?
    TIA Loic

    Hi Mark,
    Paul's input is great and I tried this way. The problem was to run js code from the air app. Thanks to NativeProcess, I know I can execute Applescript code. But XMPLib is js only (unless I am wrong but the bridge sdk doesn't look to offer other languages). So even then, I saw that Brigde Applescript dictionnary exposed a do javascript command. So finally it should have been trivious (yet tricky) to run the needed js code. But, as there is always a but, the code execution is working only half the time. Sometimes it's working, sometimes it raises an applescript event error. Nothing that I could use eyes closed :S
    I will have a look at the Photoshop GUIless that you are speaking about. However I have no experience or Photoshop's action manager code but not knowing is an occasion to learn something I guess
    Anyway customer accepted to constrain their users to use Bridge GUI so finally, it's easing the whole project. I am thinking about either an extension or a tabbedPanel in scriptUI.
    TabbedPanel has my preference but I need to experience more about dealing with the workspace. I am afraid I am thinking out loud here
    In any cases, thanks again to both of you for your insights
    Loic

  • Archive to CD using Bridge?

    I am a newbie so this might be something obvious, I'm just not sure.
    I am not sure if this can be done with Bridge, but this is what I am trying to do. I want to put full-size copies of images on CDs along with their keywords and metadata intact. I assume that I need to have the cache files follow along with the images to do that, is that correct?
    Then, I want to have thumbnails of all of those photos that I've sent to the CD to show up in Bridge, but not have the full-size photos on my hard drive anymore. I just want to see the thumbnails, almost as though they are aliases, and I will name the folder the same # as the CD for easy reference. Can anyone tell me what would be the easiest way to go about generating these thumbnails? Since bridge is already displaying thumbnails, it seems like I should be able to keep them there somehow, without having the full-size image around anymore.
    Thank you very much

    I don't think you can use Bridge for this option, what you are trying to create is better done in a specific asset management application like Expression Media or Extensis Portfolio. Bridge generates thumbnails for files that are actually on your system. You could try to create your own very small sized files using the save for web option and put them in folders with the same name as the CD but that is not the same functionality as in the above mentioned app's :-(
    To my knowledge Bridge is not designed for such a feature.
    edit
    The metadata (exif, description, keywords etc) are saved in the file itself. Only Raw files have separate xmp files with the ACR settings in it.
    The cache files are a different case. Until now Bridge has not been able to handle the exported cache files for previews in a proper way and also they use different cache files for different Bridge versions. That is a real downside of Bridge. The best I can think of now is to forget about the cache files and use the "prefer embedded" option in BridgeCS4 for a quick result.

    I don’t use it every day, but I do use it occasionally for the job and also to organize private photographs.

  • Using Lightroom in conjunction with a Lab using Bridge

    I use Lightroom for my photography on my laptop. However, I am taking a class that uses a calibrate lab and printer setup that only uses Bridge and does not have Lightroom. I would like to manage the photos on lightroom, but export and import the photos to be printed and edited in the lab. Is there a way to do this slickly in Lightroom besides pulling each photo in and out each time? I know how to export in mass, but I don't know how to import a significant number of photos back in after editing. Thanks!
    -photolede

    Not sure why you would want to re import images you have sent to be printed. It doesn't really matter what the particular software is being used by the class is to print from  (and you can't print from Bridge as far as I am aware...it is just a file browser) as long as the system is colour managed (and of course your own system running LR is also colour managed). All you need to do is use LR's print module, print to jpg files from that using whatever the colour profile used by the final printer and on the correct size and type of paper being used. Pass these off to them and the job is done, no further editing should be required at the printing side of things. I
