Using Broadband/BT Vision and BT Powerline Adapter...

Good Evening, Two weeks ago I moved to BT Broadband, set up the Home Hub etc and all was well with my home network using powerline adapters (Solwise & Zyxel) to connect a PC, Printer & NAS independently to the network. Wireless also worked well to two laptops in the house.
This week on Monday, my BT Vision box arrived and so I connected that up and reasonably quickly all was well with that too.
However, my home network immediately stopped working with the PC unable to connect to the internet via the BT Powerline adapter connected to the home hub. Wireless continues to be fine. I've looked in this forum and saw a post which indicated the BT Vision box could work with Solwise adapters so tonight I tried that, but it didn't connect up at all.
So, my questions are:-
1. Can I connect my home network to the home hub via the BT powerline adapters somehow?
2. If not, can I actually use my other adapters to connect BT Vision and my home network to the home hub?
3. Is there any other way I can set all this up so I can use both?
I should add moving hubs & boxes closer together is not an option, likewise I could go wireless to the PC but the NAS & printer are not wireless enabled.
Any thoughts, suggestions will be greatly accepted!
thanks.

1) Not sure, don't know enough about them but I'm sure I read that Poweline type products are not necessarily compatible, but can't remember any details.
2) No reason why you can't use your other adapters with the Vision box, all it needs is an Ethernet connection, how you get that is up to you. Can't see a problem with that.
3) As 1.
All that said, however, as Esther Rancid used to say on That's Life: "Unless, of course, you know different.  Cyril..."
EDIT
A bit of grubbing around took me to this thread on the Solwise forum. Seems like Comtrend and Solwise use different standards and won't work together.

  • BT Broadband, BT Vision and Qos.

We have had a good reliable service with BT Broadband, consistently achieving 7.2 Meg. When the contract came up for renewal we did so and with BT Vision. However, the activation day came and went for the Vision with no service on the BTVision, repeated error codes and many attempts to update the software which always failed. After many phone calls we were advised that the Broadband had not be set for BT Vision and two weeks later the box sprang into life! However, only the BBC IPlayer worked, the others didn't. Another call to India and was advised there would be a recall. No recall so sent an email instead and then recieved a response to say that QoS was missing from the line and the line would be updated in a couple of days. This happened and the box started to work correctly.
Soon after we noticed that the response times on the PC's had slowed, so we started doing speed tests and other checks and instead of the 7.2 that we were previously seeing, we were lucky to see 2 Meg! At the time, not knowing any different we started to check and test the PCs in the house, but whatever we did, any time of the day, it was 2 Meg. My son on his PS3 had to give up on-line gaming as the responses were so bad! Using the BT Speed test showed us that the profile was 3500 with a download speed of 1829kbps. However the DSL connection rate was 6752kbps?
Called India again and went through all there scripted tests -twice as something failed the first time. With he result that an engineer was promised a visit. On the morning of the visit, speedtest.com started showing that we were back up to speed. When the engineer arrived, we did the BT Speed test which showed a profile of 3500 but a connection speed of 4.2M. He said that this was not possible as the profile should always be higher than the reported connection speed. The engineer then did all his tests and every time it showed up 7.2M with very few, if any errors. He said that when he left he would request that the line profile be reset and when he was on the point of leaving we redid the speedtest from the PC to see that the speed had dropped down again. BT man tested the line again and yes the connection rate was 7.2M but speedtest said only 1.9M. He then changed the hub with no difference saying that we should use port 1 for BTVision. He left saying that give it 72 hours for the profile to be reset and see what happens.
The profile has now been reset and it shows 5500kbps. BT engineer said that with a download speed that we have he would expect a profile of 8000kbps. However we still have the slow sub 2m connection speed.
Reading other posts, I understand QoS is designed to ensure BTVision always has a 2Meg service and the rest is for everything else. Also I am given to understand that when the box is off the QoS drops much lower, so allowing more bandwidth for other applications. That is definitely not happening on my line. All QoS appears to be doing is limiting the line speed for everything to 2Meg irrespective of the line capability with an occasional (once) upspeed.
Is there anyone out there that can explain what the problem is and what should actually happen as I can't believe that to make the Vision box work correctly, everything alse has to suffer!
(To cap it all the BT Vision box power supply has started to emit a loud annoying high pitched noise when in its red mode).

  • Using NI-Vision and NI-IMAQ libraries without MSVC

    Hello
As part of the developpment of an application with the Qt framework, we need to use the NI Vision and NI-IMAQ libraries. It seems that they have been compiled with MSVC, and they do seem to work only when using an MSVC compiler with Qt. However, in order to ensure an easier installation and maintenance of the program, we would like to avoid having to rely on Visual Studio. We would like to be able to use these libraries with another compiler (like MinGW).
Is there a way to make these libraries work with minGW instead of MSVC ? Is it possible to ask NI to provide us with MinGW-friendly libraries ?
    Kind regards,

    Hi, Greg,
In the thread which you have found nothing related to NI VIsion.
In general behind of NI Vision is just few windows DLLs. They was partially optimized in Vision 8.6 for MultiCore processing (only some functions).
Refer to NI Vision 8.6 Development Module Readme.
I have compared several functions, and got following results:
So, if you needed faster processing, there are different possibilities, how to do this:
    1. Use other high performance Library, for example, Intel Integrated Performance Primitives
    2. Develop your own DLL for simple operations (compile it with Intel Compiler).
    3. Use GPU (in this case I will suggest to try NVidia CUDA, but there are no "ready for use" solution. You should found how to prepare DLL with CUDA compiler, then call it from LabVIEW. I tried this, it works in general).

  • TV causes interference with powerline adapter

I just had infinity installed and I have a problem with my powerline adapters, which is next to the TV (it is for the sky+ box for sky go). The powerline adapters are TP-Link tl-pa211 and the TV is a Panasonic th-37px70b.
When the TV is on, the maximum I can get through the ethernet powerline is 14mb/s, but if the TV is off or on standby I can get close 40mb/s (i.e. the maximum on the broadband line). The TV is on a wall bracket so it is difficult to move.
    I have tried:
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 1 and powerline in room 1 - 14mb/s when tv is on, 40mb/s when tv is off/standby.
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 1 and powerline in room 2 - 40mb/s constantly.
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 2 and powerline in room 2 - 40mb/s constantly.
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 2 and powerline in room 1 - 14mb/s when tv is on, 40mb/s when tv is off/standby.
It seems it is the actual TV that is directly causing the interference with the powerline adapater, not the TV causing interference in the electricity line. I'm not sure how it can interfere directly.
Has anyone had anything like this before or is the TV just faulty?

Thanks for you reply. I have tried the TV connected directly to the socket and the powerline connected to a seperate twin socket about 1 meter away and I still get the problem when the TV is on. Also, I have connected the TV to a power socket on the other side of the house with a extension cord while not actually moving the TV and the powerline adapter connected to a socket near the TV and this still gives the same problem when the TV is on. And then, with the TV still on the extension cord to the otherside of the house, I connected the powerline to the same twin socket as the extension cord and this produced no problems.
So, it must be the physical proximity of the TV with the powerline adapter that is causing the problem. So could the TV be emmitting some frequency that is interfering with the powerline adapter?
I actually use a wireless powerline adapter (TP-Link TL-WPA281) in the socket, but for testing this problem I use the non-wireless version (TP-Link TK-PA211). And according to this thread, the BT Hub 3B isn't compatible with wireless extenders. Why is upgrading to infinity so annoying?

  • Please help with speed issues and powerline adapte...

    Hello all,
I have had infinity for a few months now and I am very unhappy with the quality of service so far, I wont go into that however,
the problems I currently have are:
speed dropped from 76.8Mbps down to 34.6Mbps within a week of going live, they have replaced my HH3 twice to try and remedy this but its still the same, anything you can recommend?
as for the powerline adapters, i bought 2 extra when I took out my infinity package, all 4 have failed twice, they have been replaced aswell, received a new set this morning to install and they don't work!
When I set them up I get the green data light and green power light, however once I plug the Ethernet cables in, the data lights go off after around 10sec,
no matter how many times I reset and marry them its the same output, then maybe they will work for around 10-15 minutes and then go off again.
I have 4 adapters in use ATM
2 for vision and 2 for my computer
bt sent me 2 different models for some reason
I have the white simpler networks ones, 2 have black writing and 2 have orange,
sorry for the essay but from the experience I have had from BT so far I am not impressed
thankyou for any help in advance
    regards

The 200mbps refers to the theoretical duplex speed and not the actual connection speed. In ideal conditions the actual is about 70 to 80mbps for the 200 adapters. So therefore most of the time in normal conditions they connect at a much lower speed.
That's what I meant, hence why would you get 500Mbps ones if they ain't going to reach unless you're going to have your house wiring upgraded if the speed is rubbish. Didn't mean to be rude xD

  • I am attempting to plug my mac into my tv. I am using the mini dvi to s video adapter. When I plug it in, the display goes all wonky and becomes stretched and enlarged.

When I attempt to connect my mac to the monitor using a mini dvi to s video adapter the display becomes enlarged and stretched. I cannot seem to fix this using the system preferences or the quick keys that allow you to zoom in on the display. Any suggestions?

I am using MAC OSx 10.5.8 (9L31a) as my operation system.  The TV says "No signal.  Check connected device's power, cable connection and source selection."  Seems to me that that goes in hand with what the Samsung tech said about the Mac needing to be forces to use the external display.  But how do I do that?

    Hi Auracles1,
Here's a pretty discussion regarding wireless printing with this device and a Mac.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-networking-and-wireless/HP-Officejet-6500-E 709n-wireless-issue/m-p/258853
I have a similar OfficeJet and it was a multi-step process. (1) Install printer drivers on the machine, (2) Add the printer queue in print & fax, (3) Run the "setup wizard" from the disc for wireless printing.

No. You need a converter box like this to go with your MDP-VGA adapter:

im having trouble connecting my macbookpro to the tv. im using a mini display port to hdmi adapter, when i switch tv/video to hdmi on the tv nothing pops up, and i dont have the arrangement tap on the display settings, please help!

I've found that the order of operations, so-to-speak, can be important when hooking up mini display port to HDMI.  I have the most success with the following operations in this order:
    1)  Plug HDMI cable into mini displayport adapter (the cable should not be plugged into either the TV or the computer at this point)
    2)  Plug the mini displayport end of your new super-cable to the computer.
    3)  Plug the HDMI end into your TV.
    4)  Switch inputs on your TV to the proper input.
    5)  If still nothing on the TV, try a different HDMI port on your TV.
    Hopefully this helps!  Good luck.

  • I am using BT Broadband home hub and want to use my time machine - Can I turn the wireless router off in TM?

    Hi,
I have BT home hub which is now my main router in the house.  I also have Apple TV which works off the router and a network adapter around the house which is perfect for all my needs.  However, I also have a time machine but haven't used it for a while now as it's internal router overrides my current network which causes problems.
Being that i'm not very 'technical' I was hoping someone could give me a  'guide for dummies' instruction on how to turn off the wireless signal inside my time capsule without messing up the BT router?
    Many thanks in advance
    Alex

    Thanks guys,
Sorry, just to clarify, I need to connect the ethernet cable to my home hub and my TC first before i can do this?
And once i've done this will my stuff be backed up via the cable or wireless?
I know these are probably very stupid questions but like I said, i'm a div when it comes to this stuff!

  • Can you use an iPhone 5 and the lightning to 30 pin adapter with the Scosche IPNRFCS wireless Car RF remote?

I'd like to use this remote for my iphone 5 in my car to listen to music. The iphone will be plugged  into the stereo and be stowed away but I want a way to change the song because my stereo doesnt allow complete ipod control. Can i use the 30 pin adapter with this remote to hook the wireless adapter for the remote to the iphone? So i guess what im asking is does the lightning to 30 pin adapter support whatever kind of data is going between the iphone and wireless remote adapter? If not are there any good alternatives out there? Thanks!

I am pretty sure that will not work.  Does your TV have HDMI?  You will need this:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD826ZM/A/lightning-digital-av-adapter?fnode=4 5&fs=m.iphoneCompatibility%3Diphone_5
The adapter your purchased has this note :
This adapter lets you connect devices with a Lightning connector to many of your 30-pin accessories.* Supports analog audio output, USB audio, as well as syncing and charging. Video output not supported.

    Hi All,
I am not able to find god step by step blog on senderJMS adapter and Receiver JMS adapter.
also please explain when we use JMS.What does a messng system means?please provide some examples.
    Thanks and regards

    Hi  Goyal,
    Messaging System :
Messaging system allows separate, uncoupled applications to reliably communicate asynchronously. The messaging system architecture generally replaces the client/server model with a peer-to-peer relationship between individual components, where each peer can send and receive messages to and from other peers.
Go thru this you will get better idea :
    http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/Networking/messaging/
JMS adapter (Java Message Service) enables you to connect messaging systems to the Integration Engine or the PCK.

My elderly mother has EXTREMELY limited vision and is a technophobe. I am considering an iPhone with Siri.  Can I turn off everything else so she can use only the phone app and voice dialing or Siri and not accidentally open any other app and screw something up.

I'm asking, in all seriousness, why do you think your mother needs an iPhone? Honestly, if your mother is, as you described her, a technophobe, I would recommend against getting an iPhone or any other smartphone. I've spent a fair bit of time teaching older folks to use smartphones. If they are interested in learning, it's fine. If they have the phone because their kids or grandkids thought it was a good idea but they are afraid of the phone or not interested in its features, it doesn't go well at all.
Many basic phones have voice dialing. Obviously, it doesn't do all the things Siri does but it may be much less intimidating for your mom. Also, basic phones have hardware keys. Even someone with limited vision can learn the keyboard on such a phone. From the sound of your first post, all she will be doing is making phone calls.
    Best of luck.

I had an ipod touch 4th generation and used the Apple Universal Dock to play music through my stereo.  I just got the 5th generation and the lightning adapter but the adapter does not fit into the dock.  Apple tech support has no solution, does anyone?

That is the adapter I purchased from Apple which does not fit in the Apple Universal cradle (which apparently is no longer universal).  However, I just created my own solution.  The cradle holds the dock connector at a slight angle so the adapter, which has a straight bottom edge, will not slide down far enough to make a connection.  Since the adapter has a plastic case, I used my Swiss Army knife to whittle it down to fit.  It's a no-tech solution, and free!
