Using brush causes program error.
I have Photoshop CS (version 8.0) running on Windows XP Home (SP3). I searched the help files, FAQs, and the forums and didn't find anything related to this.
Today I opened a document I've been working on, created a new layer, picked a default 9 pixel hard round brush, and when I clicked on the canvas to paint I got "could not complete the task due to a program error" and right after this Photoshop shut down.
I ran my anti-virus, but the computer is clean. I then checked all the brushes in my Photoshop folder to see if there were any odd ones in there - there weren't. Then I closed PS and when I opened it again I held down Shift+Ctrl+Alt to reset the Prefs file. I created a new document and reset the brushes, then I tried once again to paint with a default brush. Again I received the same program error and PS shut down.
I uninstalled PS and reinstalled the program. I restarted my computer and opened PS and tried painting again - the same error, only this time PS didn't shut itself down.
I'm at a loss here. I know Photoshop can have some psychotic moments, but this is the first time I have encountered this weird behavior. If anyone can give me some suggestions on what might be happening and how to remedy it I would appreciate it.
Thank you.
>Doug Cloud:As I said in my first post - "Then I closed PS and when I opened it again I held down Shift+Ctrl+Alt to reset the Prefs file."
But you didn't say you received the dialog asking you to confirm the reset. Just holding Shift+Ctrl+Alt isn't all that is required. If you didn't get the dialog, which happens quite often, then you did NOT reset the Prefs.
You may be knowledable enough to know the dialog is required, but unless you say so we have no way to know if the Prefs were really reset.

Image reduction (200px -- 100px) causes program error
"Could not complete the Image Size command because of a program error" is the error I get.. I've got a 200px .psd file (created with cs5.5 extended) and reducing it to 100px borks. Enlarging it worked though...
Well, I restarted my PC, opened photoshop and the same file I was working on, tried to reduce it (from 144px to 72px) and the same error occurred. Wish it was more detailed than that
I could try reinstalling Ps too, but that kinda defeats the purpose of reporting the bug. -
Starting Facetime (MacBook Air) from Dock menu causes program error.
When opening Facetime from the Dock menu, I get an error message. Something like: "there was a problem, please close the program". The only option is to close it, btw, and it does not help. But when I start the program from the launchpad menu, it works just fine. How can I make the Facetime icon in the Dock menu work?
Exactly the same problem ! just cant launch Facetime from the dock. From Finder or launchpad works fine.

Just downloaded CS3 to new computer. I get a message "cannot use because of program error" when opening the clone tool. What do I need to do?
Trash the prefs as per the FAQ. Other than that, such messages can point to missing system DLLs (MSVC runtime and such), which has also been discussed a couple of times, so do a search on this forum.

Program error when try to use 3D repousse in Photoshop CS5 extended?
Please help!!!! Unable to use 3D repousse Photoshop CS5 Extended (my system info is described below)
I tried almost everything that is available in Adobe library help, also re-installed programs as requested by Adobe support (suspected to get rid of me), it did not solve the problem.
I used to have 3D capabilities, and also crop tool worked well before (now it changes all layers when using crop even in background). My PC is same, nor I downloaded plugins or changed video cards (these things are too advanced for me!), also restored preferences many times.
My system makes automatic updates, reviewed graphics and adobe as recommended.
OpenGL settings is odd …only can access basic, other modes are not highlighted (normal or advanced).
ERRORS (for 3D Text)
1-“Your 3D scene now exceeds the limits of lights and/or textures for the video card’s hardware-accelerated 3D rendering. As long as the limits are exceeded, 3D rendering will be done in software only, and some features (e.g Repousse)will be disabled.”
2- “Your video card does not meet the requirements for hardware-accelerated 3D rendering. All 3D will be rendered with software only “
3-“ Could no complete the text layer command because of a program error”
ERROR (for object)
Open GL/GPU HARDWARE ACCELERATION IS CURRENTLY DISABLED. 3D WILL NOW BE RENDERED WITH SOFTWARE ONLY. TO ENABLE OPEN/GL ACCELERATION, GO TO PREFERENCES > PERFORMANCE TAB AND CHECK THE “ENABLE OPENGL GRAWING” CHECK BOX.
Is it possible that I have a GPU Sniffer? all these terms I have learned recently =) but I have a healthy & capable graphic card and accepted by adobe standards.

It should be available for the program to give warning several times to the user, I do not know what made Photoshop to disable OpenGL settings, and not be able to reverse action!!!!! How do I change a GPU sniffer? I an not a tech, all these things I just learned reading....had spent hundreds of hours....really dissapointed of Adobe and its support....it is not fair to sell an expensive program without support, it seems to me that I know now more than a live customer support.

Photoshop CS4 "Program Error" when using Text tool
Hello. I was having problems with Photoshop displaying a "Program Error" every so often, so I deleted the preference file and all seemed good. But after deleting the preference file for my Photoshop CS4 and re-launching Photoshop, the text tool causes Photoshop to display a Program Error when using the tool. It never did this before. Should I reinstall Photoshop? I am using a Powermac G5 running 10.5.8. I have already tried repairing the disk permissions.
ThanksThats kinda what I thought too, but the problem started happening randomly. It started when we were trying to use photomerge with large photos. The program just started giving the program errors. I still think it may be a font problem, but without going through my 2000+ fonts and disabling them one by one, how can I resolve this issue?
Thanks -
Using PhotoShop CC v2014.1.0 I can't save files as PDFs - I get a program error
I have tried a couple of different files now. In the past I could save my files as PDF copies, but just recently it has been generating errors. I thought the first one was due to the size of the file but I just tried it again on a small file with the same "program error".
So the question then becomes, what do the files that won't save as PDF have in common but at the same time they don't share with other files.
And when I said that a font would cause the issue, this was in regards to using a specific font. Generally one that is corrupt in some fashion or was poorly created. First, try the steps here: Troubleshoot fonts | Photoshop CC, CS6, CS5 -
Using Adobe Photoshop CS2 version 9 and have updated it, but when stacking photos, it comes up with PSD, whereas I want Jpeg, and I change the format to Jpeg and the box then comes up with cannot save as there is a program error. Be very grateful for help with this, please.
jpg does not support Layers.
Just to make sure, what exactly do you mean by "stacking photos" and what do you want to achieve thereby? -
What causes "Could not complete your request because of a program error"?
I am trying to edit some pictures from a recent shoot and every time I try to open one a message pops up saying, " Could not complete your request because of a program error." What does this mean and how do I fix it?

I’m happy to help but can do a better job if I have more information about your situation.
What version of Photoshop do you have?
What is the make and model of the camera you used for the shoot?
Could you also include a screenshot of your entire screen as the error message pops up? To include a screenshot in your post, click the word “Reply” below the post you’re reading right now and then click the camera picture to embed the image. -
After a year of using Photoshop CC (with many errors I still have to cope with) there is a new one. Whenever I use the color picker I get an error message, that the quest can not be done for a program error. I click close and I can use the new color but I can not see it in the tool bar preview. This really disturbs my flow while working a great deal (always clicking the error message away, never having a color preview). I am annoyed paying 25 € per month for so many error, just because Photoshop is considered a standard in the industry.

Photoshop gives, Program Error, when attempting to use blending options in RGB
This problem started today when i tryed to throw a drop shadow on a layer. in RGB mode. "Program Error," appeared and would not let me access any Blending options. Although, in cmyk mode it works perfectly fine. Was some hotkey hit on accident or has something gone wrong? Help!

Photoshop Elements 8. "Could not use Clone Stamp Tool because of a program error." Please help.
Try this:
Open your picture file
Access the clone stamp tool
Hold down the ALT key on the keyboard and left click on the area from which you wish to clone, then release the ALT key, and click to place the pixels at the destination
TIPS:
It is a good idea to open a blank layer at the top in the layers palette, and do the cloning on this layer. Be sure that "sample all layers" at the top is checked. You can change the layer opacity if necessary
Use the bracket keys next to the letter p on the keyboard to increase & decrease the size of the cursor
Let us know how you make out with the error message now. -

Getting an error when using adobe photoshop CC, "Could not move the data because of a program error". Any idea on what this means?
Have no idea of what you were even doing in Photoshop my crystal ball is out for repairs so I can not see.

I cannot open photo's stored in my i photo library to edit in Photoshop Elements. Adobe comes up with the message program error. I use a Macbook Air.
No, that is done deliberately, since letting other programs poke around in the iphoto library is the fastest known way to corrupt it and make it wither up and die, along with your photos. If you want to use PSE with iphoto you have two choices:
1. Set PSE as your external editor and send the photos from iphoto. Edit them, then save without changing the name or format and iphoto will remember your last saved edits + original, although you have to lose the edits to see the original again. You may need to set the editor prefs>saving files>on first save to save over existing to make this work.
2. Export the photos from iphoto, use file>open in PSE, make all the changes of any sort that you like, save the file, and import it to iphoto as a new file.
