Using BT HomeHub as a print server

I have an epson printer which I have been using for a couple of weeks with my new mac, and I also have to share it with my brother who uses XP. I connected the printer to the Hub (BT HomeHub v1.5) USB port and managed to make it print through windows, but I have problems doing the same thing for my mac.
I am setting up a new printer, LPD protocol, 192.168.1.253 for the address (same I used with XP) LPT1 for Queue (same on XP again) gave it a name a location and the Epson drivers for that specific model, though when I am trying to print that way, after a few seconds there is an error in the communication. I have already download gutenprint but nothing changed. Any suggestions?
Thanking you in advance

Yes, that is right. Epson Stylus DX4450 Gutenprint.
I have tryied lpt1 but nothing still. Funny thing is that it says "connected to 192.168.1.253" but the green printer light i still blinking. I contacted apple care or however it's called and neither they could find a solution. Eventually they said that it might be either the printers or the hubs fault, in which case I should contact Epson or BT, after I download generic Epson drivers (which I can't find nowhere).
It's pretty disappointing comparing to how easy it was with windows. But then again not all the hardware or software supports macs 100%.

    Can you use Time Capsule as a print server for printers connected via Ethernet or wirelessly?
    I know that it works marvelous for printers connected via USB, but I'd like to know if you can use it as a more general print server.

    No, you can't, but what do you expect to gain by doing so?
    The main advantage of the print server is to provide multi-user network access to a printer that typically only supports a single connection. Since, by definition, your printer already has a network connection and can be used by multiple users.

  • HP webservices tab not available when using HP Jetdirect 2700w wireless print server

    I recently bought HP Laserjet Enterprise 500 m551 dn color laser printer with HP jetdirect 2700w wireless print server ( one day old at this time).
    I was able to configure the device and enable/ use eprint services using the embedded server with a wired connection.
    However when I attach a the mentioned wireless print server, the "Webservices" tab disappears from the configuration website, the printer reports that the eprint services are not enabled and ofcourse hp eprint or google cloud print do not work. The printer appears offline at eprintcenter. Everything else works fine.
    On the product website for the wireless server, it clearly states that this is compatible with eprint services.
    What am I doing wrong.

  • Using Airport Express as a Print Server

    Hello.
    I would liek to know if the following is possible, and if so, what would I need to do?
    I have a wireless network using a belkin ADSL wireless router.
    I have 1 Brother 1250 printer USB.
    I would like to have all computers print wirelessly to the printer.
    I have an Airport Express as well.
    If I connect the printer to the Airport Express, will I be able to see the airport via the Belkin router on the computers, or do I have to buy a wireless printer server?

    I am going through a similar dilemma and it seems that my wired ADSL router feeds Airport Extreme Base through ethernet (WAN). With this kind of setup, you cannot plug the printer directly into Airport. Instead, I have plugged the printer directly into my IMac which kind of defeats the idea of wireless. In addition, I cannot find a way to get my IBook which is also connected to airport to print. I have set up sharing printers on the IMac, but the IBook can't seem to find the printer. What frustrations!
    When I find an answer, I will be happy to share. In the meantime, check out your router connection and if it is through the ethernet wan or lan, the usb on the hub is disengaged.

    Does someone knows how to print such image/BLOB in a PDF report?
    Thanks by advance.
    Kind Regards.

    Hi,
    Indeed, I would need a custom layout.
    Unfortunately, it seems (according to this white paper) not possible with the APEX listener only. I would need a third pary tool. A pity...
    For me strange, that I cannot generate such a report having images or pictures in a pre-definied report layout... Maybe a future enahancement for Oracle.

  • Mac Pro using Mac Mini as Print Server

    Hi all,
    Mac Pro is wired to my network, Mac Mini is Airport connected.
    I'd like to use Mac Mini as a Print Server without keyboard and mouse. I've installed OSXvnc-server on Mac Mini and Chicken of the VNC (CVNC) Client on Mac Pro.
    Mac Pro's keyboard is azerty as was Mac Mini, it's impossible to loggin with Chicken of the VNC, password is not accepted, I connect an azerty keyboard to Mac Mini and I can loggin.
    Typing on Mac Pro in Mac Mini TextEdit through CVNC give weird keyboard layout, not only azerty qwerty different layout.
    In between my two Mac Mini there wasn't any problem using CVNC and the same server but Azerty Qwerty layout.
    Is there any other solution to use Mac Mini as a print server ? What about using Desktop remote connection ?
    Thanks,
    Peloche,

    Ah… right! That explains it.
    So what model printers are they?
    Ned,
    Printers are HP Color LaserJet 2550L, HP Photosmart 8250 and Epson EPL-5900L.
    I've changed the VNC Client from "Chicken of the VNC" to "VNCThing".
    Now I can log in from Mac Pro using its Azerty Keyboard as Qwerty Keyboard.
    Once logged in I've set Mac Mini Keyboard to "Extended (or Expanded ?) American" keyboard within System Preferences, with this option Mac Mini see the Mac Pro Keyboard as an Azerty layout...
    I've connected two printers through USB2 Hub connected to Mac Mini and the third one direct onto Mac Mini USB port.
    Back to Mac Pro "System Preferences Fax & Printers", "+", immediatly the 3 printers have been proposed, I've selected them and tested all: it works perfectly.
    Mac Mini is set to "restart after power cut" and is connected for power onto a remoted control power distribution sockets, that means Mac Mini is starting and stopped when printers are powered on and off.
    The sole small issue is that I can't find how to display Mac Mini GUI on Mac Pro at a better resolution than 1024 x 768.
    Thanks for your time,

  • Use my ibook g3 as a "print server"

    Im interested in knowing if I can use my ibook g3 to be my networks print server.
    As in hooking up ibook g3 to my network, then hooking up my printer to the ibook, and then print through it from my macbook. Does this make any sense? I hope it does. If this is possible please provide me with details on how to do this. Thanks in advance.

    You should be able to - I'm doing a similar thing but using my iMac as the 'print server' so that I can print from my iBook over the wireless network.
    Go to Sharing in System Preferences and tick the box for Printer Sharing. It should now be set up automatically, but you can check the printer is being shared in the Printer system preference.
    (The iBook will need to be on all the time if you want to always be able to print - it can't be sleeping).
    The printer should show up under 'Shared Printers' in the options for printing when you want to print on your MacBook (at least it does in 10.4, I've not upgraded to 10.5 yet so I don't know if it's different).

  • Can hp officejet pro l7680 print using dp-g310 print server

    hello.  I'm trying to set up my hp L7680 all-in-one printer to print wirelessly using the dlink dp-G310 print server, but I keep getting the following message:"your computer appears to be configured correctly, but the device, or resource(192.168.0.10) is not responding."  First, can anyone tell me if what I'm trying to do is possible, and second, how to do it.
    Thanks.

    This seems like the same problem I have with the OfficeJet Pro 8500 I purchased today. I bought this to replace the OfficeJet 5510 which completely stopped working once the upgrade was made to Snow Leopard.
    I can print perfectly ok from the computers we have (all running Snow Leopard) over an ethernet network but when I try to send a document as a fax, the "send fax" button in the print dialog box just remains grey.
    I have rebooted the computers, rebooted the OfficeJet and re-installed the HP software - all with no change or improvement.
    Maybe I have lost the plot like CdaveC and need some pointers.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • Create Simple Printable SQL Reports in APEX 3.2 Without a Print Server

    Oracle Apex 3.2
    Oracle 11g
    OHS
    I thought I'd post an answer on how to get a printable SQL report in Oracle Apex without having to configure a print server. I'm sure that similar things have been posted in various other places, but I found the documentation for using custom row templates (to create a printable report) to be incomplete at best. For my needs, I was not looking for an awe inspiring report printout, but rather simple directory information printouts. For example, if you wanted a printable report to look like this:
    =================================
    CURRENT ACTIVE EMPLOYEES REPORT
    =================================
    First Name: Bob                  Employee ID: 0000000000
    Last Name: Swarts              Company Credit Card Number: 0000-0000-0000-0000
    Middle Initial: F                  Social Security Number: 000-00-0000
    First Name: Sue                  Employee ID: 1111111111
    Last Name: Johnson           Company Credit Card Number: 1111-1111-1111-1111
    Middle Initial: G                 Social Security Number: 111-11-1111
    etc.....In MS Access, doing this is very easy. From what I understand, this is also very easy to do this using PDF software with a print server. However, if you are like me, you don't want to waste time and money by obtaining and configuring a print server (even if it is free). However, never fear because you can create simple reports like this with relatively minimalistic effort; and you can do so without having to configure a print server.
    1.) Create a new page
    2.) Create a new sql query report region on the page
    3.) Make your query just as you would normally.
    For this example the query would be:
    select first_name, employee_id, last_name, company_credit_card_number, middle_initial, social_security_number from employee_table4.) Go to "Shared Components"
    5.) Under "User Interface" click on "Templates"
    6.) Click on the "Create" button
    7.) Select "Report"
    8.) Select "From Scratch"
    9.) For the "Template Class," choose one of the "custom" classes. For the "Template Type," choose "Named Column"
    10.) Click the "Create" button
    11.) Now that you created a custom row template, go back to "Shared Components" and then to "Templates"
    12.) Find your custom template and click on it
    CUSTOM TEMPLATE HOW TO
    1.) In the "Row Template 1" textbox, you are going to create some custom css that will display the data on the page. The css to make the report look like the report above would be:
    <div style = text-align: justify">
    <table>
    <tr>
    <td style = "width: 200px"><b>First Name: #1#</b></td>
    <td style = "width: 225px">&nbsp</td>
    <td style = "width: 215px"><b>Employee Id: #2#</b></td>
    <tr>
    <td style = "width: 200px">Last Name: #3#</td>
    <td style = "width: 225px">&nbsp</td>
    <td style = "width: 215px">Company Credit Card Number: #4#</td>
    <tr>
    <td style = "width: 200px">MI: #5#</td>
    <td style = "width: 225px">&nbsp</td>
    <td style = "width: 215px">Social Security Number: <b>#6#</b></td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    <p style = "page-break-after: always">----------------------------------------------------------------</p>
    </div>
    {code}
    As you probably figured out, the numbers between the two pound signs ("#") are substitution strings for the variables in your select query in the SQL report.  As you have also probably noticed, the "page-break-after: always" line will always make it so that only one report is shown on a page.  To fix this, we will need to use logic and row template 2.
    2.)  For the "Row Template 1 Condition," select "Use Based on PL/SQL Expression" from the select list.
    3.)  In the textbox for the row template 1 expression enter in the following:  {code}substr('#rownum#',-1) = 0 or substr('#rownum#',-1) = 5{code}
    ***** This condition will make sure that this template is applied when the last digit in the row number is either a "0" or a "5."  So, only 5 reports will be displayed per page.
    4.)  Now go down to "Row Template 2" and enter in the following in the textbox:
    {code}
    <div style = text-align: justify">
    <table>
    <tr>
    <td style = "width: 200px"><b>First Name: #1#</b></td>
    <td style = "width: 225px">&nbsp</td>
    <td style = "width: 215px"><b>Employee Id: #2#</b></td>
    <tr>
    <td style = "width: 200px">Last Name: #3#</td>
    <td style = "width: 225px">&nbsp</td>
    <td style = "width: 215px">Company Credit Card Number: #4#</td>
    <tr>
    <td style = "width: 200px">MI: #5#</td>
    <td style = "width: 225px">&nbsp</td>
    <td style = "width: 215px">Social Security Number: <b>#6#</b></td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    <p>----------------------------------------------------------------</p>
    </div>look familiar? that is because it exactly the same code as above, except without the page-break-after piece.
    5.) For the "Row Template 2 Condition," select "Use Based on PL/SQL Expression" from the select list.
    6.) In the textbox for the row template 2 expression enter in the following: substr('#rownum#',-1) != 0 or substr('#rownum#',-1) != 5***** This condition will make sure that this template is applied when the last digit in the row number IS NOT a "0" or a "5."
    7.) Scroll down to column headings and enter this in the textbox for the "Column Heading Template": OMIT
    8.) Click the "Apply Changes" button
    9.) Now go back to your application and the page you want to apply the custom report to
    10.) On the report, click on the report tab
    11.) Scroll down to "Layout and Pagination"
    12.) Click on the "Report Template" select list
    13.) Select your custom template
    14.) Click the "Apply Changes" button and run the page
    Try printing the report, if it does not print correctly, try it in Opera, Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome. Please note that it is my understanding that only Firefox does not understand the css "page-break-after: always"
    If needed, add some css to the page to hide tabs and other items when you print.
    ~Andrew Schulltz

    DOH. Too much copy/paste.
    In my code, I was setting an application variable to contain the email address I was retrieving from AD. Once commented out, it worked fine.
              IF l_attr_name = 'mail' THEN
                 APEX_UTIL.SET_SESSION_STATE('F111_USER_EMAIL',l_vals(i));
              END IF;

  • Wireless Print Server

    I have a BTHub 3 connecting two wireless home PCs, all working well.
    I would like to add a shared printer (HP LaserJet P2055d)
    It is not possible to locate the printer with the BTHub3 and make use of the USB port.
    I am looking at using a TP-Link Wireless Print Server but unsure if this is feasable and if so how to set it up

    Hi PeterDee,
    Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting. None of the versions of the BT Home Hub are designed to act as a print server. Connecting a printer to the USB socket won't work, and we don't support this. Some people claim that they've managed to share printers in this way. But the success might be specific to their printer and the Hub just doesn't support this feature. You might have better luck with the TP-Link Wireless print server. Let us know how you get on.

  • PC as a Printer Server Question

    Hello,
    I am trying to set up my home PC to be used as a printer server for my Mac. I have two regular Laptop's already using it as a wireless print server through a Windows Network.
    I used this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3049 for assistance and it got it working. When I tried to print, it printed this message on the paper
    %!PS-Adobe-3.0
    %APLDSCENCODING: UTF8
    %APLProducer: (Version 10.5.5 (Build 9F33)
    and then it continue to feed blank pages through the printer. The only thing I could think that is wrong is I used the Generic PostScript Printer option in the "Print Using" row from the instructions on the tech article. I would have used the supplied drivers by Apple but I deleted them to save space thinking that I would not need them for anything.....Wrong: )
    Let me know what you think!
    Thanks for your help

  • OAM : Access management of Print Server and Shares

    Hi Experts !
    Our customer is providing our user printing and storage facilities in their windows accounts besides many web based applications. We are planning to evaluate OAM for this environment as an access management solution.
    Web based application's access management is totally understood as explained in OAM documentation
    Can someone enlighten if we can control access of network printers and shares (SAN / NAS) using OAM? Can access Gate be utilized for this ?
    Really appreciate your response.
    Regards

    Install the 3 part hpijs:
    http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/hpijs
    Then use the protocol that the print server manual recommends, remembering that LPD and IPP use queue name, but HP Jetdirect (raw port 9100) doesn't. If there's a section in the manual for unix/linux, that's usually more productive than the Windows instructions.

  • How to add print server in server manager console

    Hi Amin2234,
    As far as I know you can There are two primary tools that you can use to administer a Windows print server:
    •Server Manager
    •Print Management
    Print Management provides a single interface that administrators can use to efficiently administer multiple printers and print servers and is the primary focus of this document.
    Print Management provides a central administration point for sharing printers on a network and managing print server and network printer tasks.

  • Printing over print server

    Help , I am trying to set up on my imac os10 x to print on my canon i990 which is connected via a linksys print server to my xp network .
    I get as far as printer browser , see my print server and the it asks for a name and password. Which user pasword should be used I have tried the print server name and password but that does not work .
    Sorry if I am missing something easy but I am new to this mac stuff !!!! but loving it

    Hi Folks,
    I'm pretty much a Mac newbie as well but I think I have the same problem only worse. I have the same set up as the person above (linksys print server, etc) but I have a Canon i900D printer. I have gone to printfab.net and it doesn't appear that they support my printer. I can get it to print via the print server now but its very, very small.
    Should I assume that I'm pretty much out of luck with this printer set up? Since no drivers seem to support my printer in this config maybe I need to find a new printer...
    Any thoughts are most appreciated, thanks!
