Using BT Infinity for Skype

I upgraded from BT Broadband to BT Infinity as Skype video calls would always drop out on my laptop after a bit when on BT Broadband using the HomeHub2. Sometimes I had to restart my computer as the dropout would also knock out the internet too and restarting it seemed to be the only way to bring it back. I experienced the same problems both with a wired connection and a wireless connection to my laptop.
Unusually if I try making a Skype video call using Wi-Fi using my mobile phone, the video call never dropped out.
Despite upgrading to BT Infinity and using the HH5, I'm still experiencing dropouts with Skype or receiving poor video and/or audio with it again through either a wired or a wireless connection.
Could this therefore be a problem with my laptop or some settings or something?
If it could be laptop settings, could anyone advise me what settings I can change and how I can improve things?
Any software to install or update perhaps?
And why does my laptop seem to be more susceptible to dropouts than my phone for Skype?

Somebody has obviously merged your posts and moved them to this board which is for general problems.
What make/model of laptop and what operating system do you have?
If you can stream other video it is unlikely to be the network card drivers but you can check in any event.
If you go to Start > Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adaptors, click on each one in turn and go to the "Drivers" tab. Click Update driver to see if it will update.  You can then take a note of the card manufacturer and the model along with the driver version, then go to the manufacturer website and look in the support / downloads / drivers section to see if there is a more up to date version. 
The problem is more likely a setting with Skype. Do you have the latest version of Skype installed. Is it a recent problem or has it always been poor? Do you connect by wireless or wired, if wireless have you tried it wired.? Does your laptop meet the minimum specs to use Skype. See link

    Here is a different but excellent solution. My internet router contains a built-in facility that allows it to 'log in' to any internet phone number (not just Skype), and calls ring on a standard DECT cordless handset (or a wired telephone). Does same for outgoing calls as well. It's very versatile.
    Skype will rent you an internet phone number (but not cheap) but I suggest using a service from http://www.localphone.com/?rb=sN5bXhfv1nxSJQl6oRD9K30iNkAOCq6vKbL9cuLDf_E . Their internet phone numbers are free; dialing to any country is cheap; and you can rent a dial-in number in many countries for about $1 per month. Forwarding to the internet phone number is free, as is the router picking up the call. As the people whoi call me have free calls to my number, the only cost is the $1 monthly line rental. EXCELLENT!
    My router is a German-made Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7390, but many of their other models have similar functionality (7490, 7360, 7330, 7272 - look for logos for 'DECT' and 'Telefonie' at http://avm.de/produkte/fritzbox/  . You can order from Amazon (DE, CO.UK or COM at least)

    For year or two someone isopening acounts using my email adress. I am alredy having a skype acount which is asosiated whit my email but hree or four time in last year i have recived notifications about new acounts that have been opened.

  • IM+ for Skype web app

    Has anyone used the IM+ for Skype web app yet? I'm curious as to how well it works and actually how it works. I haven't been able to catch any of my friends online at the same time. I don't know if I need to purchase a subscription before I can even talk with skype users on their computer.

    Hey. I'm temporarily living in China and I bought the IM+ $25.00 deal...registered it, and even bought skype credits.
    I, too, tried testing it. I called my skype home phone and the skype home phone did ring but I couldn't hear it ringing through the iphone...it was like the iphone was dead.
    I answered the skype home phone and I also couldn't hear anything in the iphone. So basically the IM+ on the iphone just calls but you never here it calling and you never hear the voice on the other side answering. I tried texting a friend here but he wasn't at his computer so I don't know if that works better.
    Since my iphone is new and I haven't made any calls on it, I thought maybe I had the volume down or something, but doubt that's the case since I couldn't hear my voice on the skype home phone.
    Maybe I jumped the gun in buying the IM+ too soon, but how cool will it be to get calls from people back home in the States or really anywhere else for dirt cheap?
    I also tried the opposite by calling the iphone from my skype home phone. The iphone acknowledged an incoming call with a message on the iphone that told me to wait for the connection, but the calling home skype phone had no sound and no indication it was trying to connect on my iphone. In other words, anyone calling is going to hang up before it connects if it has a delay in connecting and doesn't tell you it's trying to connect.
    I hope they fix this stuff. Using US mobile phones in China costs a small fortune and is really backwards compared to Europe and a lot of other places.
    Has anyone used it successfully yet.

    at&t has something on their website as well about reporting fraud (email)
    Check the e-mail fraud examples to see if you have received a known phishing scam. If your e-mail looks like one of the examples, delete it. AT&T may be aware of the current fraudulent activities and working with the appropriate agencies to resolve this issue.
    If your e-mail doesn't match any of the examples, please forward the e-mail to AT&T Security.
    Option 2: If the phish does not resemble a message from AT&T but is from a AT&T address, send an e-mail to [email protected]
    Option 3: For all other cases (non-AT&T messages from other e-mail accounts, bank scams, etc.) send an e-mail to [email protected]
    So looks like you want to check the examples to see if it's a known scam,   if it is not then forward it to the [email protected] to report it.
     Verizon also has a way for you to report a threat to them as well but looks like it may be more geared towards their own customers, like AT&T does for theirs.
    If you receive a suspicious email, you should not reply to it, nor should you open any attachments, click on links contained in the email or provide any information in response to it. You can report suspected fraud involving Verizon or Verizon Wireless to [email protected] or [email protected], respectively. Please include the word "phishing" in the subject line of your email and provide as much information as possible about the fraudulent activity or message.

    For audio, the iPad supports the A2DP profile,  Does the SE WM600 support that profile?  Most headsets uses the Hands Free profile which the iPod does not support but there are a few headsets that do support the A2DP profile.

  • Paid for skype credit but can't even use it

    Hi.I paid for skype credit over the weekend but I am yet to make one call. My Internet is excellent so I don't know what the problem is. However when it starts to connect my service bars disappear at the top of my phone. This is very frustrating as I had a number of people to ring and I'm yet to make one call successfully. It just says "connecting" and then ends. Can someone please help me resolve this issue , if not can you please arrange a refund. Thank you.

    It doesn't call any numbers whatsoever, saved or unsaved on my contact. I haven't tried groups. Don't have any groups on my contact.

    So here it is...
    Does any one know some piece of HW that will work without a computer (on a DSL line), that can direct a Skype call into a land line phone?
    I've got a little PABX, and I want Skype calls to work as a virtual land line that generates a ringsignal into the PABX just the same way a traditional land line call does.
    Basically, what I want is my existing landline phones to work on both Skype and land line, and I'm not interested in dual phones that can't generate a ringsignal to the PABX.
    At the moment I've got a USB-device that does the job, but I'll like to do it without the computer.
    Does it make sense at all  ;o)

    I don't see how the main topic of this thread and your topic are related.  When you sign up for premium it clearly states what you are paying for even prior to placing your purchase (on the summary screen).  I have tested it out countless times and it's wording is rather direct and not vague.  There are very few countries in which unlimited mobile calls would be included.  I understandably believe this is mainly since the cost of overseas of many local/long distance mobile calls are easily 20+ cents a minute.  A five or ten dollar subscription per month wouldn't come near to covering the cost of the amount of calls that could be placed in a months time when that amount normally covers the cost for 30-60 minutes at best.
    Skype has never had a phone call center for support.  The only support Skype offers is e-mail, chat, and hosting this Community.

    We've had BT Infinity for 3 months now and ever since then we have had problems with the picture on Skype. My partner gets a pixilated picture of his family and is getting increasingly frustrated! He's tried his ipad on other wi-fi connections and its fine, and we've tried on my nexus tablet and a dell laptop with the BT infiinity connection and we get the same problem. I've rung BT, they say there's no problem with the speed of the line, they've changed our channel and that's made no difference. Has anyone had the same problem and have you managed to solve it?
    Any help would  be greatfully  received.

    As this happens on all your devices it is obviously not a device problem. Have you tried connecting the laptop with an Ethernet cable to see how it performs. If it improves this would point to a wireless problem.
    If there is an improvement there are a few wireless things to try.
    If there is no improvement can use this speed tester then carry out the further diagnostics and post back a screen shot of all the results including your IP profile for up and down. This test has to be done connected by Ethernet cable and not by wireless.

    Yes you can. You can access your account using any Skype enabled computer/device in any country worldwide.

    I just got a new 5S.  I have installed and used maybe 15 or so apps, but when I go to
    Settings -> Cellular -> "Use cellular data for"
    it only shows 5 apps: Calendar, FaceTime, Find iPhone, Passbook, & Skype.
    I would like to see all the apps so that I can control what is using cellular data.  When I read other posts online, it seems like this should show all apps.  Does anybody have any idea why I only see a few apps here or what I can do to display all apps?

    Intructions how to install it in Vista/Win7.
    Extract this driver with Winrar.
    Open Device manager and expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
    Right click on Either the High Definition Audio Device if you have the generic Microsoft drivers, or the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 if you have older Conexant drivers and choose "Update Driver Software..."
    Click Browse my computer for driver software, then click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
    Click "Have Disk..." then Browse to the folder where the drivers were extracted  .......\V64 for 64-bit Vista/Win7. Click OK.
    Select one of the "Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221" models in the list, there will be multiple identical entries.
    Click Next, and you're done.
    I'm not sure which one from the list will work for You.

    I feel that that's a typo.  It doesn't agree with other Lync 2013 TechNet documents such as
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg425891.aspxwhich specify these ports should be opened to/from the Edge Server A/V Edge service interface.
    Alternatively, inbound UDP/3478 should be destined to the A/V edge.  You can see in the first column, that they correctly identify the A/V role, but the typo is in the IP address that it should be sent to.  Someone got excited with cut and paste.
