Using BT smtp servers for a non-BT email account

Hi,
My email hosting provider have some issues with being black listed and its preventing my emails from reaching a few clients/contacts. While the provider have requested the IP address be removed from the black list they have suggested i use my ISP servers (BT) for sending emails.
Is this possible/allowed?

Hi Andy, I've been using Eudora for years to handle several email accounts from different POP hosts and my previous two ISPs (Pipex and TalkTalk) allowed me to send emails with these other email addresses through their SMTP servers. Since joining BT Internet I find that I can't do that anymore. In response to the online Help pages, I have verified those non-BT email addresses on the BT Yahoo Mail web page, but they still won't send. I saw some instructions elsewhere in this forum for configuring Outlook and Thunderbird (which is similar to Eudora) clients. The crunch seems to be that I need to insert my BT password into the outgoing server settings but Eudora has only one entry for a password in the account settings and it is used for receive and send (assuming you are using your "home" servers' the password for POP and SMTP servers is the same). As I said it worked OK with alternate email accounts before I changed to BT. It seems those other programs allow one to enter a different password in the SMTP settings and keep the original POP settings intact. TIme to dump my trusty Eudora, or is there a workaround? In passing, I noticed in another posting that the recommended servers were pop.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com instead of mail.btinternet.com for both send and receive?????
Hi. Welcome to the forums.
I actually used to use Eudora 7.1 and also set it up to do what you specifically want. See this little help guide here :-
http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/kb/2107hq.html
In truth, unless you are having problems with BTinternet mail, best to stick with mail.btinternet.com.
I had various filters set up to move emails into different folders, and used the "relay" feature as shown in the link above. It's a little tricky to grasp initially, but does work. Effecitively the "relay" account is the BTinternet verification account.

  • Is Business Catalyst upgrade really necessary for a non-google email account?

I just started hosting my site on Business Catalyst hosting through my Creative Cloud subscription. I updated the domain to be my own register domain name.
I was led to believe that I could permanetly use Business Catalyst as my hosting. Am I wrong?? Is it only for temporary work to post for 30days and display to clients??!!!
When I went to add email accounts I learned that I needed to purchase one of their hosting plans. Is this true!!??

    Hi,
When you publish a site to BC, it is first published in a trial mode. However, you can Launch the site from the BC site's admin panel to make it live. Your BC site will be active as long as your Cloud subscription is active.
Regarding emails, the free site you get with Cloud subscriptions, are on basic plan and doesn't include the email feature. However, you can still add external MX record and use external email service such as google mail. If you want to use the BC email service, than you need to upgrade the site plan.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I use the VW outgoing SMTP servers for my personal email?

I'm having trouble with my company not allowing my personal ISP to email me at work.  It means my wife can't email me from her iPhone.  Is it possible to use the Verizon Wireless outgoing SMTP servers for my outgoing email?
    Thank you,

Hi bginsberg. I know how important it is to keep in touch with your wife. That sounds like a great idea to get around your work firewalls, but Verizon Wireless doesn't have an outgoing SMTP server anymore. http://bit.ly/QgXOOm But many email providers offer a free email account that you can use as an SMTP service if you need. I would suggest to contact your ISP/Email provider for availability of their SMTP email service.
    Thank you

  • Using Eudora or Netscape7 for non-verizon email accounts with FIOS for access

Since Verizon does not give tech support to 3rd party email clients, and using a non-Verizon email account creates additional problems, I decided to share what I learned the very hard way....certainly with no help whatever from Verizon tech support.
First of all, there may have been a time (a day, a month, some random nanosecond) when you had to change the port to 587 it is no longer the case.  Port 25 works just fine, and in fact 587 no longer works in most cases.  So ignore tech support's claim that all you have to do is change the port number to 587...don't do it.
And so long as you want to use a pop account other than verizon for your incoming email you will have to use what is referred to as SMTP Relay.  Verizon tech support will tell you that Verizon no longer supports SMTP Relay, and technically speaking that is true, but Verizon SMTP Relay is not what you need anyway.  What you need is to use the SMTP Relay facility of your Email Client, in my case Eudora and (for my wife) Netscape 7.
Now before you can actually do anything you will have to have a valid Verizon email account, even if you never plan to actually use your verizon email address.  That means before you can set up your email client you must have a verizon email address. The tech who installed my FIOS supposedly set up my computer, which meant I had internet access, but he didn't set up the verizon email address.  I wasted 2 days before this came to light...so just make sure you have one before starting.
Netscape 7.0  has an email client my wife has used forever so I had to make it work for Verizon FIOS.  Fortunatly they have a built in SMTP Relay facility (although they never call it that).  You set up your pop (incoming) server the way you always have.  In my our email accounts are on Earthlink, so you use the earthlink POP server for your incoming email.  If you are switching from whatever you have to Verizon FIOS, you will already have that set up anyway.  But you will have to change the SMTP server address to outgoing.verizon.net    and you will have to click the box that says Use Authentication, with  User Name and Password.  You will put into the User Name your verizon email account except without the .verizon.net    And the first time you use this Client to send email it will ask your for your password (use your Verizon password) and you should check the box that says to remember this password.    This will make everything work fine.  You will see on the SMTP Server information page a box that allows you to fill in the port.  If you leave it blank it will use port 25.  If you put in another port number it has to be right, and what is the correct number keeps changing based on which verizon person you talk to.  I found that 25 works, although they say it won't, and that others don't work, although they say they will.
To Use Eudora (as i do)  first you have to be using the latest version 7.1 because it appears to be the first one that truely supports SMTP Relay. That's a free download if you don't have it.   Then you have to use multiple personalities.  Effectively you set up one personality (go to to tools and click on personalities) which is your normal email account (ie not your verizon one).  This is used for everything with the exception of the SMTP Server interaction.  YOu then set up a second personality which is for your Verizon email account. Be aware that you can still have that account use your normal email return address so folks who receive email from you can reply to your normal email address.  You can, independantly from that set up your incoming email pop account to be either your normal one or your verizon incoming email account (I do it the later way so I can receive something actually sent to my Verizon account, although I never give that out.  But now the important thing is that you set up your SMTP server to be outgoing.verizon.net  set up User Name to be your verizon email account but without the verizon.net and click on Authentication Allowed and Use Relay Personality.  Don't click on Use submission port 587, like I said you want to use 25, but if verizon has changed that yet again no problem as you can set up the port to use independantly using the Tools/Options/Ports , and finally you go to the Tools/Options/SendingMail stuff and select the SMTP Relay Personality to be the one that is set up for the Verizon email account.  That means your client will operate using your primary personality for everything except the SMTP part and for that it will get all its parameters from the Relay Personality.
    This all worked.

I use Eudora a my email client and routinely receive both my Verizon and ATT emails.
The last email I received  from my Verizon account was at 10:30pm on August 5.  I cannot send emails from Eudora at all either.
My Verizon DSL email account is active through Verizon-Florida at my home there.  I am currently at my Ohio home and the DSL account is with Frontier which purchased Verizon here in Ohio.
Does anyone know what might have happened to have resulted in my emails not being sent to or from my Eudora Client?

  • SMTP outgoing settings for non-BT email account

I switched to BT Infinity earlier this month, but want to retain my existing non-BT email account. I'm continuing to receive emails, but cannot configure the outgoing server. I've searched the forum postings including andyweb with no success.
    I'm using Mozilla Thuinderbird.
    The settings I've tried are:
    server name - mail.btinternet.com;
    port 25,
    user name  - I've tried three: myname/[email protected]/[email protected]
    authentication method - normal password
    connection security - SSL/TLS
The error message I'm getting is 'timed out while connecting to SMTP server'
I tried using the default port and got a message asking for a password - I used the one provided by BT for mobile wifi with no success.
Any suggestions welcome - it's a chore using webmail as a workaround.

I am relieved to find your message - I need to do exactly the same - setting up the smtp for a non-bt email BUT from within Mail on a Mac.  I moved from Virgin to BT Infinity this month and the Virgin server is no longer working.  Would it be exactly the same procedure as outlined here?   Thanks
    Hi.
The current verify method would indeed be the same at present. When the migration from Yahoo! to Critical Path is made.
I am not entirely clear what will then happen to verified accounts - as these are verified within the Yahoo! systems.
I've not mentioned this before, but I've been considering it for some weeks, and I am currently sceptical that anyone who has verified accounts will have them moved. The info here :-
We'll also move across most of your settings. However, there will be a small number of services or settings that we cannot replicate or move across to the new email platform. We'll give out more detail on this nearer the time with help and advice on what you can do.
may refer to verified accounts amongst other things. That will clearly lead to issues for a lot of people.
Hopefully the support moderators can find out what will happen to verified accounts.

  • I have taken off/turned off iCloud on my mac mini but when I write an email   and use contacts it will convert a non iCloud email to and iCloud email automatically.  I really don't want this. Any way to stop this automatic conversion?

I have taken off/turned off iCloud on my mac mini (OS 10.8) but when I send an email and use contacts , it will convert the non - iCloud email to an iCloud email automatically.  Anyway to stop this automatic conversation?

    Robert...
the iCloud webserver wont accept my password for a .mac login, nor will it allow me to change it
See if you can change your password >  Apple - My Apple ID
If that doesn't help, launch iTunes on your computer.
From the iTunes menu bar click iTunes / Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Click: Reset warnings and Reset cache
    Click OK.
    Restart your computer.
    If that that doesn't help...
Moreover, when I try to go into my .mac account on the web,
Delete all apple cookies and empty your browser cache.
See if  you can access your account at iCloud.com

If you didn't create an iCloud account on an iOS device or Mac, you don't have one.  You can't create an account on a PC.  If you were charged for an iCloud storage upgrade without having an account, contact the Apple online store at the bottom of this page for a refund.

i used apple mail to access a go daddy email account, will all the data (folders, contacts, messages) be saved for off line use?

If it is saved to a local folder, then yes.
IMAP typically it stays on the server. POP typically you down load to your computer with the option of leaving it on the server.

  • Does email sync over iCloud also support sync of non iCloud email accounts?

I use mac, ipad and iphone with sync over iCloud. While ipad and iphone sync emails of both iCloud and non iCloud email accounts, email sync between mac and ios devices works only for iCloud email account.
Please clarify whether iCloud should sync emails of both iCloud and non iCloud email account across all apple devices (mac, iphone, ipad) or it is not designed to do so.
    Thank you.

    Thank you for clarification.
However, after rechecking everything again, I can cofirm that full sync of all email accounts (icloud and non icloud) on all apple devices works perfectly as long emails originate from ios device. Unfortunately, this does work if email is sent from mac.
    Thanks again.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Now that iCloud has done away with galleries, how can we share as I did with MobileMe? How can we sync non-Apple email accounts across multiple computers?

Now that iCloud has done away with galleries, how can we share as I did with MobileMe? How can we sync non-Apple email accounts across multiple computers?

You will need to find a third party solution for online storage in order to share things like photos with others. Some popular solutions to this are dropbox and sugarsync.
You cannot sync non-iCloud email accounts across your iOS devices and computers unless they are IMAP accounts like iCloud. If they are IMAP accounts, you will do it in the same way as you have always done.

  • Mail password problem with non Apple email accounts

If I quit Mail for any reason and then start it up again, Mail asks for the passwords to each and every one of my non-Apple email accounts. It does it every time. It's been doing it since I restarted after the last security update. If I put the passwords in, everything works until the next time I relaunch Mail. Is anyone else having a similar problem, and does anyone know how to fix this?

Try this: go to the Keychain Access utility, select the Keychain First Aid command under the File menu, and have it verify the keychain. If it encounters any errors, have it repair them and verify again. If it then comes up clean, try Mail again. If it still isn't holding the password, go back to Keychain Access, go to Passwords -> Internet, locate the item for your e-mail account, and delete it. Then try Mail again, making sure you have the password(s) correctly set in Mail's Accounts preferences.
    Hope this helps.

Why do I keep having to reenter my password for one of my email accounts?

Likely because one of the servers (the incoming or outgoing) needs authentication before you can receive or send messages.
