Using Calendar Overlays on a Multiple Calendar Views

I have created a calendar with 9 categories.  I then created 9 overlays to color-code each category.
This works perfect as long as I am in the default “Calendar” view.
I also have multiple views (up to 24) and a column for the user to select the view(s) to which the calendar event should be added.
For example, there is a view for each Division and Branch.
The user may want the Branch event to also be available in the Division view, so they would select their division and branch from a choice column (check boxes) and the column would contain both values.
The individual views would check to see if the column “contains” the value (division or branch) for that view.
This works fine when viewing in the default “Calendar” view but if I create another view then it is no longer color-coded and my requirement is that every calendar view (all 24) are color-coded.
If I add color coding to one of the other views using overlays, then both the default “Calendar” view and the newly-created view show up on the calendar.
The newly-created view is still only one color but the default “Calendar” view is color-coded and also displayed along with the newly-created view.
So it looks like there is no way to add a color overlay to a view unless it is the default “Calendar” view.
I am trying to avoid building 24 separate calendars and possibly up to 40 workflows to move events between calendars.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Robin,
Thanks for the info.  I have attached some jpegs to hopefully make my issue clearer.  I'm not clear why you don't want your views to return any data.  Seems like it defeats the point of a view? I did as you suggested and added an extra filter
to each view "And Title = x".  What this did was remove the duplicate non-color-coded records which are currently in the images (all green).
So I have no overlays for the "Calendar" view and created overlays for the SNA and SNAG views.
Here is the result of the SNA View.  The events in green disappeared once I added "And Title = x" to this view.  As you can see, all the data from the SNA
AND SNAG views are displayed.
Here is the SNAG View. Again, the events in green have since been removed by adding "And Title = x" to this view.
The forum only allows me to upload two images so I will make a separate post for the final image.

I can no longer link calanders on multiple phones.  Any ideas?

Make sure you are signed into the same iCloud account on all of them in Settings>iCloud with Calendars turned on.  Also make sure you are adding events to your iCloud calendar.  Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Calendar ( in the Calendars section) on each of your devices and make sure you have selected your iCloud calendar as your default, and not something else like On My iPhone, Google, Yahoo or Exchange.  After adjusting your settings, add a test event on each of your devices and confirm that your calendars are syncing properly now.

  • One calendar view does not show up when configure calendar overlay in sharepoint 2010

I created 5 views for a calendar and wanted to create a calendar overlay to show all 5 views.
    Events 1
    Events 2
    Events 3
    Events 4
    Other events
but one view named "Other events" is not showing up when selecting view from "calendar" list.. (only the other 4 views are shown)
I checked that the view is created correctly and listed in views section in list settings.
    Don't know why ?
    Appreciate any advice

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that one of your calendar view didn’t display when configured the calendar overlay.
Was the “other events” view created by the Calendar View format?
You can only select the view created by the Calendar view format when you configure the calendar overlay.
I had tested with five view as your description, they are all the calendar views, and all the views could display when I configured the calendar overlay as below.
You can recreate a new view or a new calendar, then check whether it works.
There is an article about creating Calendar Overlay, you can check with it.

  • Multiple calendars open at once in Outlook 2010

    Hello,
We've been experiencing a new issue with a small set of users (5).  When they select the Calendar from Outlook 2010, multiple calendars are displayed at once.  These users have rights to the accounts of other users and even though those calendars
are unchecked from their last view, those other calendars continue to appear all at once.  I have switched users from Outlook 2010 32bit to Outlook 2010 64bit.  Their release levels are all 14.0.7015.1000.  The Exchange 2010 backend is running
SP3 with Rollup 5 and we do not use any PSTs.  No clients are running in cached mode as that is disabled by group policy.
Has anyone else experienced that?  I've seen posts on how to get multiple calendars to consistently open but nothing on the opposite.

    Hi,
Generally, Outlook 2010 can remember the selected Calendar when you last use Outlook and would reselected them at next start-up.
If your Outlook automatically displays multiple calendars which are not selected in last view when you open Outlook, please do the following changes to have a try:
    1. Check whether the issue also occurs when you change a computer.
    2. Run Outlook /cleanviews switch to start Outlook to check whether the issue persists.
    3. If the issue continues, please start Outlook in safe mode to check whether the issue is caused by any third-party add-ins.

  • SP2013 Calendar Overlays, Filter by Category, and Double entry issues

I have scoured the internet and have come up with NOTHING that covers this issue.  I hope that someone here will prove me wrong.  I am in the process of deploying a company intranet using the SP2013 software.
Currently I am focused on Calendar features.  I am building Branch specific pages and calendars I am running into issues where I cannot color code the calendar efficiently.  Specifically, I have built the calendar app part for the given site.
I have then added the appropriate filters, Closings, Meeting, Overflow.  By following instructions online the thrid "overflow" filter is intended to catch all uncategorized entries.  I can display the calendar, and apply the overlays and
the color code appears, my problem is that I am getting double entries for each.  I have getting one entry for the calendar with the color code applied for the given category, and a second in the default calendar color.  How do i get rid of the default
entry?  I cannot remove it from the list of calendars being displayed.
Please help.  I have 34 Branch calendars to build and 10 department calendars to work out.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that SharePoint 2013 Calendars Overlay had Double entry issues.
Please make sure you create Calendars Overlay correctly.
As you said, there were duplicate events on your calendar.
This happens when you don’t create a calendar view with a filter where the category is blank. This view gives you a blank calendar, and the calendar overlays sit on top of it.
If you don’t use this blank calendar view, you are just adding the color-coded events on top of the existing calendar events.

I am having problems setting one calendar as my default calendar on my Pearl 8130.  I can go in and change the setting to show the calendar I would like to be the default, but if I exit the calendar feature, use one of the other applications on my Blackberry and then return to my calendar application, I have multiple calendars appearing again.  I am running Outlook 2007 and Desktop Manager 4.7
    Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, I do not have an answer, however a similar problem and a "tack-on" question.  I have 2 calendars show up on my device , one attached to me email address, and a device default calendar.  I would like to delete one of them since they are the same.  Any thoughts?

  • Multiple calendars on new phone using exchange

if you would like multiple calendars on exchange using outlook 2003
    go to calendars
    go to settings
    or to your advanced tab
    check off *allow multiple calendars*
    add your calendar
rename calendar by right clicking on it
voila the phone now has as many calendars as you start
on list you will see a different color dot per each calendar
on upper left you will see calendars touch it
all or a list of what you named each one will appear

Hi, thank you for your post.
Can you please be more specific when you describe the steps? Outlook 2003 doesn’t have “Settings” or Advanced tap” under calendar. I searched in Help for “Allow Multiple Calendars” and there is nothing in there. I looked all the calendar options, didn’t find anything.
I did a lot of research and didn’t find anybody that says “it is possible to view multiple calendars on Iphone 3G” You are saying it is possible but your step are not accurate.
    Thanks for any feedback.

  • Which calendar app do you use for multiple calendars?

    Hello and Happy New Year!
    Here's my situation:  I am iPhone5S, iPad2 & MacBookPro13; DH is Droid& Dell and children are iPad Minis & Dell.  Their PCs run Win7 & 8.
DH & I use Google calendar to organize our schedules.  Now all 3 kids have Minis and I want to allow them to see their appointments and our goings-on for the week on their calendars (we homeschool).
I see that Apple doesn't allow you to assign one event to multiple calendars.  For instance, DH & I need to know that Boy#3 has bball practice on Tues & Thurs nights but so does said child.  So, ideally, I'd love to assign our main calendar that event AND the "Boys Calendar."  Would even be cool for each kid to have his own calendar but I won't split hairs at this point.
Here's the rub: I don't want the kids to have access to our main calendar on Google.  DH & I have finally got it down and coordinated and I don't want them screwing it up or seeing our events.  Some of them are private and just between hubs and me, if you know what I mean.    I'd like my kids to open up their calendar and only have appts on it that pertain to them and their week/month.  And I'd like to be able to see it all - even if it means I see duplicate events on a given day which indicate that the event is on two different calendars.  Sort of like the colors of iCal but with the ability for the kids to just see their colors.
Does anyone use a good app that allows you to pick which calendar to assign an event to, even multiple calendars?  I tried Fantastical but it doesn't let me assign to different calendars. Any.do is a don't for me.
Would love any feedback on what you've used successfully to organize your family.
Thanks so much!  I appreciate your kind and considerate feedback.
    Warmly (literally),
    Kim in Phx

Right? I know. This just seems utterly ridiculous to me in this day and age. Maybe I'm mistaken but I was under the impression that there has to be an app that does this for people. I mean, how hard can this be? I wonder if I just keep my main calendar and invite my kids to their events. I wonder if that will work?  I really don't want to be creating three different calendars copying and pasting events and trying to juggle 4 different calendars.  How cool would it be to have everybody assigned their own calendar and then the master calendar can decide who to assign the events to?  Like in iCal when you go to assign the calendar, instead of having one option, you could have all the calendars as options. I have two boys to do karate together, one boy who does basketball alone, and one boy who does flag football alone.   I'd love to put karate on the schedule and then just assign it to the two calendars of the boys who are taking tae kwon do now.  Create one event and then you decide which calendars to list it on.
I'll keep looking to see if anything is out there but I'm not sure that it can cross both iOS and PC platforms.
I really appreciate your info and the time you took.
    Thank you so much,
    Kim

  • Changing the view of a calendar overlay inside another webpart

    Hi,
I have downloaded and implemented the TabsWebPart from MSDN. Seems to function great.
I have made a master calendar with an overlay including 2 calendars, each with different colors. If I insert the calendar itself as a webpart, my overlay view applies great and you can see the appointements, however if I insert this calendar into the TabsWebPart
(tab1), it shows up blank with nothing. As far as I am aware the process was to close the web parts you want to display in the TabsWebPart, and then edit the xml file with the name of your closed web parts.
Now it seems that once you close the web part, it must lose its view settings? The other problem is that once inside the TabsWebPart, there appears no way to edit the Calendar webpart. Clicking on it simply selects the TabsWebPart edit box.
    Have I missed something?

    Hi,
I understand that you want to show calendar overlay inside a tab web part. As far as I know, closed Web Parts do not appear in the UI directly. But they stay in the Web Parts collection of the page so that code can access them. When you close a Web Part,
it is not rendered on the page, which improves performance. Closing a Web Part moves the Web Part to the Closed Web Parts gallery, which preserves the configuration and customizations in the Web Part. You can return the closed Web Part (with all its configuration
and customizations intact) to the page from the Closed Web Parts gallery. So it won’ lost its views. If you want to edit the view, you need to edit it before closing it. After you close it, you can access the web part in SharePoint designer while editing the
page. So now, you can add another Calendar web part to show in the Tabs web part and edit the views instead.

  • Multiple calendar views but not All?

Is there a way to view multiple calendars yet not view all? I'm assuming not but maybe I'm missing something. In iCal I can have multiple calendars yet I can check each one and if uncheck they won't view. I basically have one calendar group I want but I don't want to see it all the time. Yet with the iPhone I either have to view them all or one individually at a time. Anyway around this?

    Hi Joel,
There is not. With the iPhone, it's All calendars or one calendar, no options in between.
As I'm sure you know, you can submit feedback to Apple. Should be pretty simple to enable that in a future update, but of course there's no way to know where it will fit on their priority list.

  • Calendar Overlay Across Multiple Site Collections

I have searched the forums and have not found a solution to this question.
We are having trouble creating calendar overlays across site collections.
    Specifics:
    1. This is a single farm SharePoint 2013 installation.  Version: 15.0.4481.1005
    2. We have a single web application http://sharepointweb on port 80
    3. We are using host-named site collections
    4. We have separated the different departments into separate site collections because we want to take advantage of separate content databases.
When we create calendar overlays between calendar lists within a single site collection...it works fine.  When we try to create calendar overlays between site collections (again, within a single web app) it fails with the message "Unable
to find specified web in the given URL".

    Hi Roo,
i tried some steps, i agree with you that seems calendar overlay cant do good across web application,
from http://y:1234/ and http://y:4563/. seems there are limitation here.
when i extend my web app, usually i create new web app as internal/external/public, then i guess issue is happened.
so, anyway, i got a bit curious if your environment also came out with the same result:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2025977
at the kb, it was stated, that it may not able to find another site other than the default web app.
but, while i tried in the same web app, the issue not there.
so i tried to create new site collection, with lots of subsites, http://y:1234/. then have http://y.1234/sites/123 and http://y.1234/sites/456, for example, i add new calendar and create overlay, seems it can resolve each one and another.
perhaps you can check this article:

  • Business iCal sending out multiple calendar invites - one calendar and one account, 2 people using it for work

    First question:
My boss has a Macbook Pro (iPad & iPhone), I have a Dell and iPad.  We use his iCal for our work calendar and my Outlook is logged into his iCal so that I can load appointments & send them out to clients.  He obviously has access to the same calendar so that he can also load appointments.
We have realised that sometimes the meeting invite, although I only send ONE invite out, will send 6 invites to a person. Here below you will see the icons that appear next to the 6 invites that the person that receives it sees next to the invites. It is therefor 3 types of emails/invites that are each sent out twice to the client.  This is obviously not ideal. Could it be that I must not include my boss in the invites (as it is already his calendar sending out the invites), or what could it be that I am doing wrong?
    Second question:
How can I ensure that replies (Yes/No/Maybe/Comments) appear in the iCal meeting, as people reply, but those replies I have to copy and paste into the meeting as they do not currently automatically update in the meeting.
    Third question:
Any suggestions on a better system/method?
    Please help!

I think I know what can help. I also support Mac users in a mixed environment, and find that being able to access a Windows machine to test settings for my iCal users is very very helpful. If you do not have one, I could also fix this one by adding the user's account to my one Mac that runs Entourage.
On a PC: set up one of the problem accounts in Outlook, then go to Tools->Options & click on the Delegates tab. Click on a Delegate name (if they all have the same permission level, you can select all), then click the Permissions button. If the delegate have "Editor" permissions, there will be a little checked box that sends the delegate copies of all those meetings. De-select it.
Lemme know if you want Entourage instructions or if that does it for you.
The real question, of course, is why are there so many Exchange functions that iCal can't touch. Grrrr....

    Introduction:
In SharePoint Calendar, there is a feature called Calendar Overlay, it would display multiple Calendars items in one Calendar. However, when we click the items in Calendar Overlay, it would redirect to a new tab.
In this article, I would make a simple demo about how to use the JQuery to make the Calendar Overlay item open in the same window, as known as, open in a modal dialog.
    Solution:
We can add the following code in Calendar view page using SharePoint Designer or paste the code within a Content Edit Web Part.
    <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.11.1.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    $(document).ready(function () {

    $(this).attr("onclick", "openDialog('" + $(this).text() + "','" + $(this).attr("href") + "')");
    $(this).attr("href", "javascript:void(0)");
    $(this).removeAttr("target");
    }, 900);
    function openDialog(title, url) {
    var options = {
