Using camera shake on animated projects in AE CS6 -  Problems

Hi,
I have AE CS6 version 11.0.4.2 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit 12 GB RAM, Nvidia 3 GB on a Toshiba Qosmio laptop.  Its not a technical support question, its a problem I am having with camera shake preset I have, also the Wiggle effect doesn't work anymore with my animated projects.  My first project used camera shake on an animated balloon here is the video, notice the trees moving (shaking) and the balloon is perfectly stable and appears to be moving slowly in the sky:

The above video was a tripod shot of the sky, and a photo of a hot air balloon animated to appear its moving in the sky.  Camera shake was added to give the illusion that it was a hand held shot.   It worked perfect.  Now all my other animated projects can not use the camera shake preset anymore, the balloon now shakes along with the original footage.  Please see this YouTube video that explains it in more detail and you will see what I mean:

What am I doing wrong or what did I do right the first time?  I spent about 3 hours on this and can NOT figure out whats going on. Why did the first animated project work and the other now won't work?  I am at a loss, no idea whats going on.  Can anyone please help?

I must not be understanding something here. In your first video there are no clouds in the sky so the balloon looks like it is stable and it is stable. In the second example HELP with camera shake problem - YouTube there are clouds in the sky so there are features around the balloon. The balloon is still moving smoothly across the sky (drag a guide line in your comp and check for yourself) but the moving clouds give you a very odd appearance to the video because the motion does not match. The balloon is smoothly moving across a shaking background, which it would not do if the camera was shaking. Your problem isn't that the shake preset added shake to the balloon, it is that it didn't. There would be a little parallax shift between the balloon and the clouds, but it probably wouldn't be enough to notice. If you simply make the video a parent of the balloon then the shot will look more realistic. It seems to me like you are asking to produce something that would not exist in real live visually, and your brain knows it is not right, so you are interpreting things incorrectly. Go buy a toy balloon, take it outside on a cloudy day and let it go and shoot it with your smart phone and look at the movement.

  • Problem with Photoshop CS6. If I open a file using Camera RAW

    I have a new problem with Photoshop CS6.  If I open a file using Camera RAW, and process it as usual, CS6 doesn't want to save it the way it used to.  I don't know if I changed something by accident or not. 
    Here's what happens now: After opening from ACR to CS6 and completinhg all of my work, I choose "Save as..."  The save as window opens showing the file name and format.  The default format seems to be .PSD.  I use the drop down to select .jpg.  The file saves normally as a .jpg.  When I go to close the image from, I get a new prompt asking, "Save changes to Adobe Photoshop document DSC_xxxx.NEF before closing?
    I looked up at the file name in the bar above the work space and noticed that it does NOT change from "DSC_xxxx.NEF" to "DSC_xxxx.jpg" after I have saved the file as a .jpg,in my webesite  but it always used to do that.  This adds a few extra steps when closing a document and it really slows me down.
    In fact, I wouldn't swear to this, but I think it used to save to .jpg by default, without me specifying this.
    I don't see a setting in the preferences for what to use as the default file format for saving, so I don't know where to change it back.
    Any ideas?

    For best results, where should the Camera Shake Reduction filter be positioned in the workflow? At the beginning? Toward the end? Before or after noise reduction? What about applying any of the sharpening tools or techniques in conjunction with the Shake Reduction filter?

    Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
    My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
    If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
    Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
    Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.

    We get posts like this many times each day and you can choose to accept this response as advice or in some other way. Up to you.
    Open the index to the manual or open the online help system. Look for stabilizer online. The index isn't very well constructed so it isn't always easy to use, so look for image or effects in the index instead of stabilizer. The online system is copy of the manuals that Preview or Acrobat will parse instantly.

    Here's an overview of motion tracking and stabilization.
    Step-by-step instructions are here.
    The basic idea is that you track a point that shouldn't be moving, and then you apply the motion tracking data to the tracked layer to compensate for the motion. It's pretty easy, actually.

    I downloaded Photoshop Elements for the sole purpose of using this camera shake reduction filter all over the website, but now cannot find it in the list of available filters.  Help!

    Unfortunately, the Camera Shake Reduction filter is only available in photoshop cc and cc 2014, which is part of the creative cloud, not in any version of photoshop elements.

  • Camera shake reduction filter - double exposure blur problem

    I am having a problem using the camera shake reduction filter to work on a digital image of an old photo which had a clear cut motion blur which formed a
    double exposure when the camera motion stopped... this can be seen when the image is enlarged. Is it possible to sharpen these type of images ?

    Can you post a small bit of it?
    Usually the Shake Reduction tool will improve an image some, especially if you hunt around with the position, size, and shape of the analysis region until it gets it just about right, but there's really not a magical fix for motion-blurred images.  Such an image, with whatever recovery mechanism, will not ever look as an image that's well-exposed to begin with.

  • CAMERA SHAKE!!!! Why not Premiere? FCP has it!

    So the one thing that has been bothering me to no end is the fact that Premiere has not included a camera shake preset into their library when the product ships. There isnt even a preset you can buy(that i found) for premiere pro. I dont want to use AE for one simple effect that should be included in the release.
    Fcp has it in its effects tabs and its great, why not Premiere?
    If anyone has knowledge of a good preset for camera shake, please let me know.
    I do not wish to mickey mouse it in AE and or even in Premiere .. as i've tested them all before and nothing appeals to me.

    I dont have fcp in front of me.. i do belive it is the earthquake effect.
    Yes i know that premiere and fcp dont have the same effects, but it would be nice for premiere to include this "earthquake" "shake" effect as a preset.
    I actually almost switched to fcp for this one effect(i'm not kidding), i've been premiere editor for over 15 years. I like to edit with ease and that effect is what i've been needing for a long time. If you guys look @ spike TV's UFC adverts, when the guys hit one another they do this "shake" effect and it looks amazing.
    I have sent in a request for this feature, i hope everyone who reads this thread, sends one. It would be a great addition to the software.
    to BDRUMMER67, i'm not sure i understand your post,  you say u used a digieffects plug in to make your camera shake, which plug in did you use? Displace? I have used that one and its still not the same, doesnt have that same look.

    Anyone use a good app for camera shake? The kind that only lets you take a photo once the camera is steady...

    I've used an app named Darkroom for this, and it seems to work well.
    It includes an autosave option and if autosave is not used, you are provided an option to discard or use the photo.

    RESET DEVICE
    Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost).

  • Would Final Cut be a solution to my animation project?

    Hello,
    I am looking to purchase movie editing software and was wondering how Final Cut works with animation techniques, both traditional 2-D and digital morphing.
    For instance; say I filmed a doll and then wanted to animate it's lips and synch the lip movements up with sound. How difficult (or easy) would it be to do this? Could I utilize 2-D animation effects (think Superfriends and other cartoons) of several drawings of lips in different positions and then compositing them onto several keyframes of the movie? Would I remove the mouth on the doll first before filming and then add the mouth frame by frame or could I overlay a frame of mouth with fleshtones to match the "skin" of the doll on top of the doll's scuplted mouth?
    Or is there a way to actually morph the movement of the doll's actual mouth in Final Cut? What do you experienced animators/editors think is the best technique to animate mouth movements on a figure? And are we talking serious crunching and rendering time?
    Thanks for any help! I've been told Final Cut is a great editing program but I want to know if it can do what I need and the demos I've watched haven't convinced me yet. Thanks!

    Your questions are really about how you are going to approach your stop motion, not about how you will edit it. Although FCP has the usual VFX tools and there are ways you can use these to create 'animation', it's not what you're looking to do, I don't believe. FCP could indeed be used to storyboard, cut, rearrange and edit your animation sequences, add multitrack audio to the sequence, and master output. But it is NOT an animation system. Although as mentioned, you could prep layers and lay these over characters layers, where are you going to prepare those layers? Stop thinking about FCP and look to what you want to do to create the frames for your movie - FCP will come later if you need it.
    Take a look at Boinx iStopMotion (at http://www.istopmotion.com), a very nice stop motion package for digital cameras. And think more about the steps and stages you will go through to produce your animation. No software package can create your animation for you (unless you're going down the CG road, in which case look to Maya, XSI, 3DS Max or similar). Remember, as with all animation - AUDIO COMES FIRST!
