Using Canon XSi with RAW & Lightroom 1.4.1

I have CS2 and Lightroom 1.4.1: how can I use RAW 4.4.1 with a Canon XSi?
It is clear that CS2 cant be used with this. Less certain whether I can use Lightroom 4.4.1?
It would appear that I could use Photoshop Elements 6.0 to do this?
Is there a convenient way to use more than one Camera Raw with CS3 without having 2 or more different versions of CS3 on my desktop, each with its own version of Camera Raw?
Same question as above but can one use more than one Camera Raw with Photoshop Elements 6.0 or greater?
Thanks,
Hersch

Jao,
Thanks for this insight on Lightroom 1.4.1. In principle this should solve my problem.
Thanks very much.
Hersch
PS: I think we might have had an earlier discussion on soft-proofing. I would add that without having done a comparative series of tests, I found the Huey Pro a useful tool for calibrating my LCD monitors. It is significantly discounted.

  • Iphoto 6 and using Adobe Elements with RAW?

When I open Elements and proceed to open a RAW file it will not open picture taken with Canon RAW. It asks for a file size? Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You may need Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 3.6 Beta ... this plugin for PE3 to handle RAW.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Using iPhoto together with Adobe Lightroom

I use Adobe Lightroom for my image organizing/tagging needs, since it's way more powerful than iPhoto in this area. I would however like to use iPhoto for my daily image browsing, syncing with my iPhone and for ordering prints/books ++. The way I do this now, is I let iPhoto scan the folder where I have my images. After a while when it gets outdated, I delete the database and rescan in iPhoto. Kinda cumbersome...
    So:
    1. Is there a way I can make iPhoto rescan my image folder? Maybe some script or something that can do it for me?
    2. When I rate images in LR, the ratings are stored in the IPTC Urgency field. When I import to iPhoto it doesn't import this as rating. Any way I can convert IPTC Urgency to iPhoto rating?
    3. Would Aperture be a better choice for working together with iPhoto, or would it be just as cumbersome?

    In reverse order:
    3. Would Aperture be a better choice for working together with iPhoto, or would it be just as cumbersome?
It’s a lot better. You can grab your previews from Aperture right into iPhoto using a Media Browser, but given that Aperture will do all those things - books, syncing with iPhone etc - you’ll probably need to do it less. Like iPhoto, Aperture is integrated throughout the OS, in every Open... Dialogue, through Media Browsers to integrate with other apps and so on. The primary advantage of using Aperture is that +at least the two apps know each other exist+.
    2. When I rate images in LR, the ratings are stored in the IPTC Urgency field. When I import to iPhoto it doesn't import this as rating. Any way I can convert IPTC Urgency to iPhoto rating
I don’t think so. There is no real way to move ratings between any apps that I know of. This area of metadata is still in its infancy.
    1. Is there a way I can make iPhoto rescan my image folder? Maybe some script or something that can do it for me?
No. However there are apps out there that can watch that folder for you and execute specific actions on events occurring. You may be able to cook up an Automator action or Folder Action script that will import to iPhoto when a file is added to the Folder. Or use an app like Hazel to do it for you.
Update: I’m not sure what this Lightroom plug-in brings to the party, but it may help.
    Regards

  • Anybody use Canon ZR950 with Mac Laptop and Final Cut Express

I just bought a Canon ZR950 Mini-DV camera and have been eyeing up a new MacBook Pro for editing video of my new baby (12 days to go). I'm wondering if anybody has had success with that model camera and FCE. Would I movie do the trick or is FCE that much better?
Also - would the 256mb video card model w/ the 15" display be okay?
Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time!!!!

I have my old Mac listed as my current computer (I use it to record music as it does exactly what I need). I've been looking at the new MacBook pro - wouldn't that work?
If not - which new Mac should I buy?

  • Using PS 9 with RAW photos

Am I right in thinking that RAW photos are not acceptable to PSE 9? These are .nef  files from Nikon.
Is is therefore necessary to update to a later version of PSE?

You could use the 8.6 DNG Converter to convert the D3200 files to dng copies, which pse 9 should then open.
Of course, you could also upgrade to pse 13, which would open the D3200 files directly without the need for the dng converter.

  • Cannot print using Canon W6400 with Leopard - help????

There is an archived discussion with this exact problem, however it doesn't seem to have been resolved. I'm hoping someone can help with the issue now....
I recently upgraded to a MacBook Pro running Leopard. I cannot get my W6400 to print with it, despite re-installing, checking cables, etc. It worked fine a few weeks ago with my old laptop, so I'm assuming it's Leopard. The error message that comes up says 'Operation Could not be completed. client-error-not-possible'. I cannot find this message in any manuals, or on the Canon website. I've logged the question in with Canon, but it could take up to 3 days to get a response.
    Any ideas anyone? Many thanks.

After about 7 hours on the phone with Canon, Apple, friends, etc. I rang the man I bought the printer from. He said 'no problem' and within 20 mins, he emailed me the link below - this is after Canon told me there was no updated driver as the printer was so old! Lunatics! Anyway, if anyone needs a great company for large format printers, etc ring Design Supply.

  • Using Rebel XSi RAW + Aperture 2.1 problems with color/Canon profiles

While using Canon XSI RAW and Apreture 2.1, I notice that Aperture tends to strip the images of all the Canon color profile information (Landscape, Portrait, etc.). Images look way better when opened with Canon's software. My question is - is there anyway to preserve the Canon color profiles when importing into Aperture? or simply put - can Aperture RAW processing be changed? Otherwise my images look much duller than in Canon's software. Thank you.

  • CANON XSi Won't Recognize Any SD Cards

I ordered a used Canon XSi off of Amazon and got it today. Immediately after opening it, I put a 4gb SDHC in it and I got the message that there wasn't a card. After that, I tried every SD card in my house, including a class 10 card. I formatted them, and reset the camera, but nothing is helping. What could possibly be wrong? I realize that it is a risk buying such an expensive used item, but do I just send it back or should I look for professional help? I don't know what to do, and I am very disappointed.

    Hi haileyromero!
Thank you for posting about this.  Your EOS Rebel XSi is compatible with 4GB cards, so if it will not detect multiple different cards ranging in capacity and speed rating, then something is wrong with the camera that will need to be corrected by our Factory Service Center.
To start the repair process, you'll need to complete a Repair Request on our website.
Additionally, you may participate in the Canon Loyalty Program.  The Canon Loyalty Program option allows you to replace your current camera for a discounted fee, plus shipping.  The original non-functioning camera would then be returned to Canon USA for recycling using a prepaid shipping label that would be provided.
If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (800) OK CANON (800-652-2666) seven days a week, 8am to Midnight.  Let them know you have been working with online support and the Canon Loyalty Program was offered.  Be sure to have your serial number for your camera at the time of your call.

So the CS4 will never be able to open Raw 5D Mark III files.

  • I want to sell my Canon EOS 6D with bundled Lightroom and Elements. May the purchaser use the bundle

I want to sell my Canon EOS 6D with bundled Lightroom and Premiere Elements. May the purchusar use the bundled software?

In researching the issue I read that to edit in raw you need a camera model requirement of at least 7.3 which only works with CS6.
That is correct. Your camera was first supported by Camera Raw 7.3. Camera Raw 7.3 will not work with CS5. You need CS6 or CC.
Being new to all this I see that my options are to upgrade to CS6 or convert by using DNG converter and paying a monthly fee. Two things I know nothing about and don't know which is would be more beneficial.
I'd appreciate any advise on which route to go and how upgrade and what it may cost.
It all depends on your preferred workflow and your budget.
Using the DNG converter is free. There is no monthly fee. You use the converter to convert all Raw files from the EOS 6D to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5. That's an extra step every time - every photo. Some people don't like the extra step. Others don't mind.
Camera raw, DNG | Adobe Photoshop CC
Or you can upgrade to CS6 (non-Cloud) and pay the upgrade fee
    Creative Suite 6
Or join the Cloud and pay the monthly fee
Or join the Photoshop Photography Program (US9.99/month) and get PS CC+LR

  • Raw files from the new Nikon D810 will not open with either Photoshop CS5.1 or Lightroom 4.  When will a real Adobe solution be available to work with Raw (NEF) files in their native format, using CS5.1 and LR4?

Raw files from the new Nikon D810 will not open with either Photoshop CS5.1 or Lightroom 4.  When will a real Adobe solution be available to work with Raw (NEF) files in their native format, using CS5.1 and LR4?

Clarification: this is a user forum; you are not addressing Adobe here.
The answer to your question as phrased is: never.
CS5 is history and it is not longer supported.  There will not be any updates or bug fixes for CS5.
You need to convert the raw NEF files from your D810 to raw DNGs using the free, standalone Adobe DNG Converter 8.6 RC (beta), the first version ever to support that camera..
