Using Captivate quizzes in oracle ilearning 5.0

Hi,
I guess this question goes out to anyone familiar with BOTH oracle iLearning AND Adobe Captivate..
We are using Captivate 2 to develop e-learning content, often including quizzes / tests.
Our current LMS is Oracle iLearning 5.0, and we are experiencing some troubles trying to apply the in-built Captivate quiz for one of our courses.
1. I have created a simple test of 7 questions in Captivate, all weighing 1 point. You need at least 6/7 points to pass the test.
2. In total we plan to give the user 3 shots at passing the test. No clues as to whether (s)he submits the correct answer is therefore given during the test.
So far so good, this works well within iLearning (after having tried 3 times, you're not able to access the questions any longer), but here's the catch:
* If the user gets eg. 4/7 on the first effort, he or she obviously fails (this works), and the RCO is marked as incomplete, the user still has these 4 points the next time he or she takes the test, so if the next result is 3/7 th user gets a total of 7/7 thus passing the test.
Does anyone have a clue of what's causing this error? How do we reset the score for each time? Is there anything special I need to configure on the publish settings / quiz settings in Captivate that I might have forgottten / not know of? I am not very familiar with SCORM, so perhaps there is sth I need to define in the mastery score of the SCORM manifest?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thx in advance

This is definitely something on the Captivate side, and it's possible that it is related to not having a mastery score for the learning onject (which you can set manually in ilearning if need be on the learning object properties screen.)
Do you have debugging enabled for the ilearning cmi adapter ( "?lms_debug=on" added to the end of the cmi adapter url)? If so, run the quiz a couple times like you describe and view the java console output. That might give us a clue as to what the content is doing.
Also, try it with a mastery score and see if the behavior is different.
I will also check with my contact at Adobe...

  • Using Captivate Quizzes in InDesign with the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite

    Hi,
I am trying to create interactive quizzes that I can just drop into InDesign when producing ebook apps using the DPS.  Ideally, I'm looking for a quiz generator that has a choice of question types and a input interface to enter the question details, much like that found in Adobe Presenter.
I'm not a Captivate user but I downloaded the trial version, built a simple quiz and published it in HTML5 format.  I unchecked the box so that the timeline isn’t shown during the quiz.  Since I’m not really familiar with Captivate, this might seem like a stupid question. Is there a way of not showing the initial screen with the play button and timeline at the bottom, so that the user would just see the first slide of the quiz in the publication?  I also see the timeline on the Results slide.  Can I turn that off?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John,
If you are using HTML5 output, the play button would be there as per design, and you would be required to click on the same.
You can disable the timeline, if you mean the playbar at the button by Project -- Skin Editor and uncheck to disable the playbar from project.
    Thanks,

  • Captivate and Oracle iLearning

I am trying to use the SCORM output from Captivate to track
courses in Oracle iLearning. The courses play fine, but marks the
course Completed whether the entire course is run or not. I have
copied the Oracle .xsd file as called for in the articles in the
Developer area here. Any ideas on what I need to do to be able to
see a percent complete in iLearning?
    Thanks,
    Sean

Old post, but just in case anybody is having a similar issue. The most probable cause is that the Tracking Type is set to Auto for the SCO in the iLearning admin section. This means it will not use the SCORM API, but will just update the content to "completed" as it is launched.
If your content is pusblished as SCORM and Tracking Type is set to Auto you will probably be recieving message about the "API not being found".
Set your Tracking Type to CMI and see if this resolved your problem. If your tracking type is updated and you still resceive error messages about the API, it is possible the the CMI adapters have not been setup correctly, or at all on your LMS. The CMI adapters facilitate the communication between the courseware and LMS.
Your best bet is to contact the system administrator and ask them to set up the CMI adapters.
We also provide some useful resources for Oracle iLearning courseware developers, and will shortly be adding a courseware trouble shooting guide: http://www.seertechsolutions.com/all_assets/pages/learning/courseware-developers.html

  • Multiple Quizzes using Captivate 3

I am currently using Captivate 3 and I had a very large project with multiple quizzes.  Captivate was able to go through the first quiz, but every time I hit another quiz, the system would freeze.
I am looking to do multiple quizzes - does anyone know a work around????
    Thanks!
    Jess

    Hi there
A bit of clarification if I may...
Linking to the .CP file is only the right thing to do if you constructed your links using the "Open other project" option. If you used the "Open URL or File" option, you wouldn't link to the .CP file. You would link to the .HTM page.
.CP files are project source files and you should never see them on the server.

  • Best way to achieve multiple paths with quizzes using Captivate 6?

I’m looking for the best way to achieve multiple paths and quizzes using Captivate 6.
Here is the scenario: The learner watches general slides 1 – 3 and then chooses between Path A, Path B, or both paths combined.  If they choose Path A then they watch the A portion only and take the A Quiz only. Same happens for Path B and for the two paths combined. The learner would only have to go one path to complete the course.
What I’m finding is Captivate only has one Quiz results page (even if you create two separate quizzes, it merges them). I was trying to avoid having three separate projects for the same module to keep it simple. I see if I have three separate projects I could use the Multi-SCO Packager to merge them for use on my Moodle LMS. But wait, I don't have the elearning suite, so I don't have access to the Multi-SCO Packager...
My question is: What is the best approach way to accomplish this goal? Any recommendations?

Captivate 6 has Branch Aware quizzing.  Turn on that option in Quiz Settings and then your Quiz Results page should only show results for the branch your user visits.

  • Oracle iLearning 5.0 on Windows and email notifications issue

    Hi!
We are upgrading from iLearning 4.3 to iLearning 5.0 on Windows 2000 server and I have a question related to that.
iLearning 5.0 is certified for Windows.
    The accompanying release.txt states that:
--'Email', 'Email and Web' notifications options for Learner Rating and Authorized Enrollment/Unenrollment are not available on Windows platforms. Only web-based notifications should be used.
Through a Technical Assistance request (TAR Number 4439000.992 ) I've found that this problem is due to the use of Workflow 2.6.2 stand-alone which requires sendmail, which is not available on Windows.
This worries me because I want the system to be able to:
    * notify admin when authorization is needed for enrollment
    * notify course participants about changes or a cancelled course.
    * Certification reminder and expiration
    * Assessment submission
    * Notification to all learners currently enrolled in an offering
The suggested workaround from Metalink is to use a Unix/linux server.
    Metalink suggestion:
"you can set up a notification mailer on UNIX to work with stand-alone Workflow
hosted on Windows. The following MetaLink article is a step-by-step guide on how
to do this: Note:254973.1 How To Configure UNIX Sendmail To Work With Oracle Workflow Running On Windows
This would be useful if UNIX was an option for me. It is not.
    I have some questions:
1)Can I use WorkFlow 2.6.3.5 on windows with iLearning 5.0?
I know Workflow 2.6.3.5 is working with MS Exchange.
2)Can I use sendmail in some form or shape?
IIS 5.0 (or 4.0) has a mail gateway that can be utilized by a sendmail program.
    Sendmail software for windows:

    http://www.ntsendmail.com/
    http://www.windowsitpro.com/Windows/Article/ArticleID/5289/5289.html
Has anyone tried any of theese?
I'd like to make a suggestion to my IT department on how to solve this issue.
Thanx for any help in advance :-)
    Kristian Amlie, Bergen Norway

There are a couple of patches available that allow a customer to upgrade their Oracle iLearning database to 10g and with that, upgrade Oracle Workflow to version 2.6.3 which supports email notifications through workflow on windows.
    Patch #s are 4321769 and 4485520

  • Using Captivate with SharePoint

I apologize in advance, the "search within this forum" function is not working, so I can't search the Captivate forum to see if this question has already been answered.
When you develop training and quizzes in Captivate, I've heard you can post the files on SharePoint, and then SharePoint will capture the student information and quiz results.  Has anyone successfully done this just using a standard SharePoint site, and not the SharePoint LMS that is offered?

    Hi Jim,
I can't seem to get a reply from anyone on the forum for the SharePoint Learning Kit, so maybe you can answer my question.
Once you set up your SharePoint site and download the SharePoint Learning Kit,  how do you activate the kit on your site?
    Thanks,

  • Oracle iLearning - SCORM content data

    Hi,
we are using CourseLab for creating courses and tests and export them into SCORM 2004. What data is passed and saved to the Oracle iLearning database from the SCORM 2004 content? Are the questions and answers of the test being saved? What are the tables to look for? Does the description of Oracle ilearning DB tables exist somewhere?
    Thank You,
    Vaida

That's not quite true Anders :)
Assuming the content is using cmi interactions, the user's responses to questions in a scorm 2004 quiz are stored on the interaction table/view.

  • Testbanks in oracle ilearning

    Hi,
    We use Oracle iLearning 5.0
Does anyone know how to create a reandom selection from a testbank when creating a new test? We have a testbank consisting od 50 questions, and want the test to select 20 random questions each time a user starts the test.
    Is this possible?

Yes it is. On the test properties page, ensure the "Item Source" is set to "Rule-based"
This way, when adding questions to a test section, you select the test bank and the number of question (20), rather than selecting the specific questions.

  • Remediate to content slide; return to question; then continue on - using Captivate 8

Using Captivate 8, I’m trying to remediate from a Knowledge Check question slide back to a content slide, then back to the KC question to try again, and then continue on from there.  On my first instance, this works fine.  However, the problems began on the second instance and continue on each instance thereafter. The settings on the KC question slides are all the same with the exception of which slide each jumps to for remediation.  I don't understand why it works the first time, but doesn’t work after that. On the second instance the question jumps back to the content slide, but then skips any subsequent slides.   Anyone had a similar experience?  Know of a workaround or what I might be doing wrong?
FYI, I'm using he E-Learning Uncovered Adobe Captivate 8 book by Elkins, Pinder, and Slade as a reference, and it clearly describes how to do this on page 183, "Remediation back to Content Slides - If students get a question wrong, you can branch back to one or several slides where the content was taught and then return them back to the quiz to retry the question.  To add remediation branching:  1) in the last attempt field on the question, set a Jump to Slide action to the first slide with the content.  2) On the last slide with the content, add a return to Quiz action on the slide's next button.  On the content slide, the Next button with the Return to Quiz action executes a Continue action under normal circumstances, but returns students to the quiz if that's where they came from."
    Please see content map below:

    Slide 2 – Content

    Slide 4 – Content
    Slide 5 – Content
    Slide 6 – Content
    Slide 7 – Content
    Slide 8 – Content
Slide 9 – Knowledge Check Question -Remediates back to slide 5 if user misses two attempts to answer; slide 5 returns user to Slide 9 for one last try at question, then advances to Slide 10 (works perfectly)
Slide 11 – Content (here’s the first problem; on click, slide 11 jumps to the Knowledge Check Question on Slide 13, skipping slide 12)
    Slide 12 – Content
Slide 13 – Knowledge Check Question that remediates back to slide 11 if user misses on 2 attempts to answer; slide 11 should return user here for one last try at question, then advance to Slide 14
    Slide14 – Content
Slide 15 – Content (here’s the second problem; on click, slide 15 jumps to the Knowledge Check Question on Slide 19, skipping slides 16, 17, and 18)
    Slide 16 – Content
    Slide 17 – Content
    Slide 18 – Content

I've tried contacting Adobe, too, but with no clear resolution yet.  One suggestion they gave me was to put the slide you are remediating back to right before the question slide.  However, if you can only remediate back to the slide immediately before the question slide, that limits this functionality severely.  My solution has been to remediate to a duplicate, but separate content slide using buttons rather than quiz logic.  Cumbersome, but it works.

created by camelothome in Quizzing/LMS - View the full discussionI have the same problem with my project.  If the player detects that a quiz has begun, it sees it as in quiz scope.  Thus, when it encounters the next slide after the quiz slides that has "Return to Quiz" as the Exit Action, it instead goes to the next set of quiz questions and skips a bunch of content slides. I don't know where I read it, but I thought that if the slide was being visited for the first time, and did not come from a quiz, the "Return to Quiz" would have no effect and it would continue to the next content slide.  Perhaps I am wrong, but I thought that was the correct behavior. I've attempted to get help from Adobe, but the operator was not very helpful.  He wanted me to upload my file using wetransfer.com but gave me an invalid e-mail address.  Since that was the second attempt to get help, I gave up on Adobe Support.  Although I get the suggest above, it's a pain, especially since I don't have buttons on the content slides.  I have the player just playing with the playbar available for pauses.  So, now I have to create some sort of workaround using variables, but I don't think this is how it's supposed to work.  In fact, I'm not sure what I did yesterday that caused it to work correctly for a while, but I'm pretty sure I didn't change anything related to this.  Of course, then it stopped working. I find Adobe Captivate to be pretty buggy and it's put me way behind in delivering a product to my client.  I'm very frustrated. • Problems using Captivate 3 content in Captivate 5?

    Hello All,
I have recently upgraded my system to Captivate 5.  All our training content was developed using Captivate 3.
We have about 3 years worth of lessons in the Captivate 3 format.  I thought it would be "duck soup"
converting from Cp3 to Cp5.  Wrong.  I have converted all our content to the cptx file format.
On some quizzes and slides (mostly quizzes), the very first slide flashes a solid blue background, and the shows the normal background with the playbar, etc.
I am using a skin created in Cp3 - but just a change of colors - nothing fancy.  When I place a new slide in front of the
first slide, the same thing happens.
    Any ideas?
This seems not to happen if I create a project from scratch in Cp5.
    Eric

If you've just jumped two versions of Cp when upgrading projects I think it's fair to say that you're quite likely to encounter a few issues.
The formats between Cp3 and Cp4 were different, but from Cp3 to Cp5 it's a totally different animal.
You may find that you'll need to recreate some questions in Cp5 to get them to work correctly.  I also find that I usually have to recreate the Quiz Results slide as well in Cp5 otherwise I get wierd issues with the buttons not appearing as expected.
You'll probably need to create a new skin entirely in Cp5 to match the one you brought over from Cp3 in order to get rid of your issues.  It doesn't matter whether or not the skin was "fancy", you're just better off with a skin that is native to Cp5. The good news is that once you have created this skin (and given it a unique name) it should be available from the Skins Editor drop-down menu from then on, meaning that you can easily apply it to all your other projects quite quickly and easily.
Bottom rule is, when upgrading projects to Cp5 from previous versions, you have to expect that not everything works first time.

  • Cp 4 not playing in Oracle iLearning LMS

I love Cp 4 - but now that I've published, loaded to
LMS, I can preview just fine, but learners can't play content, and
object is marked complete when the screen never loaded even page 1.
    Help!
LMS is Oracle iLearning (5.2) - published for SCORM 1.2.
    There are 2 errors:
    the first:
    Line: 13
    Char: 2
    Error: Permission denied
    Code: 0
    URL: project htm file
    The second:
    line: 268
    char: 4
error: 'document.getElementByld(...)' is null or not an
    object
code: 0, URL is my project htm file

Could you explain in detail how to get CP4 courses tracked properly by Oracle LMS?
We tried numerous setting in CP4, but the course was marked completed when user clicks the first page. How to get the Oracle to mark complete at the end of the course?
Our course has tracking component such as buttons and clickbox, and one quiz item.  We have also used Oracle xsd files.  But the tracking of completion status remains an issue.
What does it mean by "Tracking type not set to CMI if it's autocompleting"? How to set to CMI.
Your kind help is greatly appreciated.

  • Campus Tours sites of the day - how do they use Captivate?

    Hello,
I'm new to Captivate and am still figuring out which situations it might be easier to use it rather than building something in Flash. I can see that quizzes, screen-casts and scenarios are obvious places. But I've also been looking at the first two 'Site of the Day' examples in the Adobe Captivate showcase (the campus tours of AI Philadelphia and Berklee College of Music) and I can't see how they would have used Captivate to produce them.
The examples are both very nice promotional presentations about universities and they look great - nice internal popups with videos, images etc. I understand that you could build widgets to provide these kind of features but I don't understand what the benefit would then be of importing these in to Captivate rather than just building it in Flash.  Am I missing something obvious?  Do people use Captivate for storyboarding and then move into Flash?
Any advise would be appreciated. I do love Captivate so far but am not sure how to put it to use most effectively.

It depends how fancy you want to get.
The easiest way to achieve this is to do as you currently have, but set the On Exit action for the final slide in each group to jump back to the Menu slide.
In order to give the user the option of continuing on to the next slide, you can place a button on the final slide of each group and set it's action to jump to the first slide of the next group.  You need to set up some variables and Advanced Actions to show/hide this button depending on whether or not the user has clicked the button on the menu to view all slides.  If they've just clicked the button for a particular group, the Continue button remains hidden and they'll be jumped back to the menu.  The disadvantage of this method is that it requires the user to click something at the end of each group to continue to the next.
If you want the user make their choice on the menu slide to play all sections one after the other, and then to be seamlessly taken to each new group without clicking anything, then you need to get slightly fancier with your Variables and Advanced Actions.  Basically, On Exit of the final slide in each group, instead of the action to jump back to the menu, you need to have it perform a check to see what the value of the variable is that determines whether to continue or not.  If the variable is 1 (to indicate continuous play), then it will jump to the beginning slide of the next group.  If the variable is 0, then it should jump back to the menu.
If you're unfamiliar with Captivate Advanced Actions and user variables, this is your opportunity to learn!

  • Anti-Virus programs blocking Captivate Quizzes

Can anyone help me with this?
I am creating quizzes using Captivate 5. They are being exported as stand alone applications (.exe).
The problem I'm having is that many of our members cannot open the quizzes becuase their anti virus software is blocking it as a potentially dangerous file.
I know how to help them individually by introducing the program to their anti virus software but we have way too many members to have to teach each one how to open the quiz.
How can I avoid this while still being able to deliver the quiz via email attachment?
I would greatly appreciate any help.

    Welcome to our community
I'm not sure you will really find any answers here other than to suggest you publish the Captivate as a SWF and place it on a server, then point your users to the server to take the quiz.
The thing is, an EXE is an EXE from the standpoint of an anti-virus application. Many of these applications look inside EXE files for telltale signs of a virus, but generally speaking, all EXE files are suspect. Sort of Guilty until proven innocent. And there are very good reasons for blocking EXE files that arrive via E-Mail.
So I'm not sure you will find a good workaround for that issue.
