Using CaptivatePlayer to play more movies

Hi All,
Thanks to Jesse for a wonderfull tool. Made my day, finding
this.
OK, I have limited, if at all, experience with Flash so I am
hoping the
following is a matter of configuration.
Situation.
I have 5 swf files that I want to play consecutively. 4
lessons. If the pupil
finishes one course, I want it to automatically load the next
movie.
But of course I also want the flexibility that Player gives
me.
Is there a way to configure CaptivatePlayer so that it will
continue with the
next movie in the list after it finishes a movie?
While allowing the pupil to still select something else?
Thanks in advance to any help you can give me.

Has anyone figured out a solution for this? I've come across this question in a couple of different places, including Jesse's blog, but never found an answer. I'm dealing with this exact issue right now.

Using Events To Play Another Movie Clip

Dear Readers:
I have a set of buttons in my flash movie that, when a mouse
cursor passes over it, another movie clip on the stage causes a
layer with text to gradually appear from below. It pops up, so to
speak, and eventually stops, displaying the text related to the
button in full view.
Passing over a different button causes the text layer to move
downward, slowly disappear off the stage, then reappear in the same
manner with text associated with that latest button. Its fairly
simple and works fine, as long as the user waits patiently for the
text layer to scroll down and back up before passing over another
button. See code below.
However, if the user decides to quickly pass over multiple
buttons (before the text layer reaches the top), the event handler
is coded such that if the mouseover event occurs BEFORE the text
layer reaches the top, the text layer starts over at the bottom, so
the transition is not smooth. Imagine the text layer just about to
reach the top, when the mouseover event occurs, now the text layer
starts over from the bottom. Very choppy.
I'd like to grab the current frame of the text layer movie
clip when the mouseover event occurs, and have the layer move back
down from there, reach the bottom, then come back up, rather than
starting from the bottom. Any help in coming would be great. Thanks

yourI = setInterval(f,t) starts a loop. it repeatedly calls
the function f() every t milliseconds until a clearInterval(yourI)
is executed.
the most common problem that occurs with setInterval() is
executing it twice (or more) with no intervening clearInterval().
when that happens all hell breaks loose and the swf will call the
function much more rapidly than intended and can not be (easily)
stopped no matter how many clearInterval() statements you try and
execute.
the easiest way to prevent that problem is to execute a
clearInterval() just BEFORE all setInterval() statements. it
doesn't hurt anything to (try and) clear and interval that doesn't
exist and occasionally it'll stop the seemingly bizarre problems
that occur with out-of-control intervals:
clearInterval(yourI);
yourI=setInterval(f,t);

Why do I have to use silverlight to view Netflix movies?

I'm wondering why I have to use Silverlight to play Netflix movies. When I opened Netflix and selected a movie to play in my Firefox browser a gray page opened up and the only option was to play the movie using Silverlight. I have a sneaking suspicion that it's a requirement by Netflix as Netflix is partnered up with Silverlight, a Microsoft product and has some sway over what's able to be played with this addon. Why is there no alternative. I really like the new Firefox but still we're wanting for just a little more control of who does what on our machine.

Netflix determines which program their movies are to use. Firefox has no control over it.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
From the iMovie share menu. choose share to iTunes. Choose an appropriate size for your content (no point choosing an HD size if your content isn't). If you have an Apple TV 1, limit your choice to those options that are designated for the Apple TV, if you have an Apple TV 2, you can select the extra options designated for the iPad.

Macbook freezes when I play 720p movies

I bought my macbook back in early 2008 and now it runs on OS X Tiger.
Recently, I find that whenever I use realplayer to play 720p movies....my macbook would free at some random spot and I'd have no other ways of closing the program other than physically pressing the shut down button.
I have tried using VLC but its worse. It would play for a bit and when I try to fast forward it (I press pause then fast forward), the whole app would just crash and give me an error message. This happens everytime.
Does anyone know what the problem is?

How can I make one projector play more than one movie? If the movies are protected, can the projector still play them? How can I link them? Thanks for your help.

I’ll elaborate on Sean’s reply.
As Sean mentioned you can use:
_movie.go("markerName", "MovieName")
To jump to the marker named ‘Markername’ in a movie called ‘MovieName’.
I tend to still use the verbose syntax
go to "markerName" of movie "MovieName"
If you had:
go to movie "MovieName"
you’d jump to the start of the movie (frame 1)
you could use:
go to movie "MovieName.dir"
but the '.dir' is not needed and if you create a protected DXR or DCR, the statement (without the movie extension) would work.
Now, if you want to avoid writing a unique behavior for every link you’re creating, I’ve got a tutorial that describes how to do it at:

The above uses property variables and a parameter dialog box. It does require some understanding of programming (not too much though).
If you have D11.5, in the Library Palette, in the ‘Controls’, category, there is a ‘Jump to Movie Button’ behavior. This behavior can be dragged and dropped onto a sprite and then you can type in the marker name and movie name in a parameter dialog box to set the link for the sprite. I say D11.5 because while earlier versions of Director have this behavior, there is a small error (easily fixed) that makes the marker jumping part non-functional. Anyway, my behavior in my tut site does the same thing.

How can I use iTunes to play a whole series of movies/video podcasts at a time?
I have a whole bunch of short films and video podcasts & wanna play one-after-another in iTunes. I cannot seem to get iTunes to do this for me. I wanna just sit back and watch them all, without selecting the next one every 2 to 5 minutes.
Can you do this is iTunes?
Right now I am having to select the videos one at a time and play them after each one ends from in the Podcast window. (over 300 "Best of YouTube videos)

Hold on... advice to someone downloading from 1337x !!!
Until I saw your comment and googled the term, I had no idea that this was a "downloaded" file. I assumed the "1337x" reference was to dimensions/resolution and Noir referred to genre. (I.e., I use similar notations the differentiate files compressed for TV playback comparisons.) In any case, the advice is the same irrespective of the source.

Not necessarily. Thousands of movies are probably downloaded daily as legal purchases from such vendors as iTunes. Thousands more are available for free in the public domain, open source/community videos listings, and under Creative Commons Licensing. In short, there are many legal sources of downloadable content and you should not automatically jump to the conclusion that everyone is a crook.

Drag applications from your main desktop off the right side of the screen and they will appear on the TV. This is the extended desktop mode.

How to put a .mov file on a dvd using lion and have a commercial DVD player play my movie? iDVD is gone. I never had it.

I have found a lot of frustration around this topic but no answers.
I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Version 10.7.4.
I have a video I made with iMovie. I want to burn it to a DVD for commercial DVD playback. It's as simple as that.
Things I've tried.
1. Using iMovie, I saved an HD version of the project to my desktop as a .MOV file. I know I can just burn that to a DVD. It won't play. I need a utility/program to put the necessary files on the DVD so a commercial namebrand DVD player will have what it needs.
2. I heard iDVD used to do this but it's not on my MacBook Pro (Lion OS). I've researched things like "What replaced iDVD" but found nothing but a but of complaining. (and I can see why).
3. I have looked for freeware. It all looks fishy.
Other options I'm looking into.
Use my Mac and connect a cable to the big TV screen. Play the movie using this screen as a secondary monitor. Problem - I have a dozen cables but none for this combo.
Move the .MOV file to a PC and play it using QuickTime. The cables I have will work for a PC to TV. Sad option.

Give it a try, it may just serve as the temporary fix you are looking for. Make sure to download the 64-bit version.

Anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID.

Yes, you have WD software installed REMOVE IT !!
WD has warned its customers about their huge mistake that their software doesnt work on Mavericks and causes data loss.
(also dont use WD drives anymore)

can apple tv be used to play purchased movies from a ipad without broadband via airplay

The only times I've tried - on holiday/vacation with no broadband - this has failed because Airplay of protected content requires a brief authorisation connection to Apple's servers.
Conversely an ipad hooked up to a TV using the HDMI adapter works without internet for media stored on it as does a Mac computer running iTunes eg MacMini with HDMI out.
