Using captured analogue video (avi) files

I have captured analogue video from an old camcorder via  pp6 .and  use cs4 to edit and produce dvd.
However , no matter what the settings  set  in the capture project the frame size remains at 320 x 240 with the  cs4 sequence  set at 720 x 576
Tried lots of changes in the  original capture and to the cs4 settings but cannot find solution.
I have previously successfully done this operation but cannot repeat it.
Maybe a very simple answer .
Can anyone help.

What conversion hardware are you using, and what are the camera settings when you play the video to go to the capture device?
I used to use a Pinnacle DV500 card and the settings for DV AVI were for 720x480

  • Small Flip video AVI files - can preview in Organizer but not Elements

    Hi all,
I just spent $110 to buy Adobe Premiere Elements 9.  I installed it to my Dell Vostro 1520 Intel Dual Core 2.2 GHz, running Windows 7 Pro.
I have a few small (5-10 seconds each) Flip video .AVI files (standard definition) to use for learning.
To learn, I brought the little .AVI files into Adobe Organizer, and can now double-click on each thumbnail and see the video play clearly, no problem, in the Organizer preview window.  All well and good!
Next I created a new Project in Premier Elements, and used the Add Media button to reference the same little .AVI files.  But when I attempt to preview them in Premier Elements by double-clicking on a thumbnail, I instead see a green/teal-colored rectangle where the video should show in the preview window, although I can hear the audio fine.
Can anybody help me?  Any thoughts or ideas will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Steve --
I have Windows Live Movie Maker.  It offers many of the same features as Adobe Premiere Elements 9, but not all of them.  For example Premiere Elements 9 offers Picture-in-Picture, nicer titling features, etc., etc.  That's why I've just shelled out $110 to buy Premiere Elements 9 (whereas Windows Live Movie Maker is totally free if you have Windows 7 Pro).
Windows Live Movie Maker is a PC-based video editing program, and it does not require and does not use use Apple Quicktime.
So I don't understand why you say Quicktime is a necessity.
But I do appreciate your reply and your thoughts.
I'm still looking for someone who has successfully used Adobe Premiere Elements 9 to edit Flip Ultra (standard definition) .AVI files.
    Thanks.

  • SHOWBIZ DVD 2 captures analogue video on my E10

Showbiz DVD 2 captures analogue video on my E10.
    Stu

Ivan25 I too would like to capture from my analogue in. I don't think it's right when you get programs with your computer that just don't work as configured.
I don't use my modem that came with my laptop as I have broadband but I'm sure I would take it back if it didn't work, regardless of whether I use it or not.
Something seems to have happened to the ability to capture from the analogue in now that MCE is involved. I know others that can capture from their Toshiba analogue in but they don't have MCE.
I have my MCE configured for use as my TV and don't want to have to mess with the setup each time I want to capture one of my old VHS tapes.
It's also not about buying software as I've tried 5 trial programs for capturing and all of them say that the video in is either being used or not available.
I would be happy if it was only a matter of ending a running process and then restarting it when I'm finished but it seems to be more than that.

  • Can I use my Nikon D90 AVI files in Premiere Pro CC on my iMac?

Hi and thanks in advance to anyone who can lend me a hand. I am new to both Premiere Pro CC and Macs. I have used my Nikon D90 AVI files before with Premiere Elements on my PC with no problem, but the same films aren't working on my new setup with Premiere Pro CC and an iMac.
I can see and preview the films in the Source window but when I try to drag them onto the sequence window I get a little hand with a "no" sign.
I am using a version 7.1.0 (141) of PP CC and am on OS X 10.9
Do I need to transcode the files? If so, to what? And what is the best way to do that?
Many many thanks for any help!

Just remember, you will not always get the answer you want right away. Some people will point you to tutorials, some, like me, will attempt to help and still point you to tutorials, and some will just answer the question as best they can.
Some might insult you, and some merely insult your intelligence. Don't be offended. Do, however, search the forums as best you can in an attempt to find the answer before you post.
I realize that people don't always have the right words to describe the problem, and therefore have trouble searching. If searching fails you, just ask. It generally works out in the long run. And as you have discovered, sometimes a combination of posts may do the trick.

  • Trouble Capturing Analogue Video

I have been successfully using a canopus card to convert analogue video from a VHS tape deck to digital video in PE4.All of a sudden it stopped working. I can still see video when I run stop motion, but when I return to capture mode there is no video and no sound. I've tried changing all the settings in capture settings and device control, to no avail. I'm probably missing something simple, but it's driving me nuts. Any ideas?
    Braham

    Braham,
Maybe un-seat, and re-seat the actual card - power off, of course. If that does not work, carefully remove the card and use a normal pencil eraser to clean the gold contacts. I always run the eraser down the length of each contact - both sides. Do
    b NOT
touch the contacts with your fingers! I use compressed air to blow any eraser dust off, and then re-seat the card.
If this does not help, you may have a chip on the card going out.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Capturing audio from avi file

I want to capture just the audio from avi file. Here is what I did. I dragged the avi into garage band and saw a separate audio and video track. I tried to import the just the audio into itunes but it would only let me import both video and audio. I decided to burn the audio to cd and then import it into itunes. This seemed to work but I would like to know if there is a better method. I figure there must be. Anybody out there tried this?

i'm not near my GB machine to test this, but see if you can Share to Disk and make sure the Compress checkBox is not selected.

  • Flip video avi files . . . now what?

Just rec'd 10 or so avi files made with one of those cute flip vid cams. Now what?
I'd like to edit them in imovie hd 6x but of course I'll need to convert them first. Right now I only have white screen and audio. Do not have QT Pro, but installed Perian. Still same look --white screen and audio. What other components do I need to get going?
    Thx for help.

My bad . . . I forgot about mpegStreamclip. Opened avi file and converted to dv. All is well, maybe.
Interesting how original avi file at 12 mg exploded to 82 mg as dv. I used default conversion settings in streamclip. Is that correct? Is there a better conversion format/container I should use for editing in imovie 6 (or FCE)?
    Thx.

  • Using Quicktime to Play AVI files

My Canon PowerShot creates AVI movie files. These play fine on my mac through iPhoto. I then drag them to my desktop so that I can attach them to an email. When I email them to family who also have macs (who are on 10.4.2) with QuickTime, they are unable to to open them. When I email them to my Windows PC it says that the file is not a movie file and cannot be opened with QuickTime. I've tried importing it to imovie and saved it as a .mov but that did not help.
How is one supposed to play an AVI file outside of iphoto?
These are some of the errors I get:
QuickTime cannot open the file: "MVI_1670.MOV"
it is not a file that QuickTime understands (-2048)
    Or Error -32

    hi Nat,
I got the avi file in my email. this is what happened to me:
I waited for a couple of minutes for it to download then double clicked the icon file for the avi in the email and nothing happened.
I then hit the "save" button to save to the desktop. I did this twice and nothing was saved to the desktop.
I then tried to drag the file from the email body to my desktop and got the spinning ball. Mail turned unresponsive and I finally had to force quit it.
I went to .mac webmail and opened your mail there. I clicked to download the avi from the webmail. took a couple of seconds and then it opened in quicktime just fine. You have an adorable doggie!!
Next I went back and opened Mail.app again. This time I went to Window>Activity viewer to see what was happening.
In Activity Viewer I see that it is stuck on "downloading attachment" and "caching attachments"
It's been over 10 minutes and it still has those two things showing in the Activity Viewer.
Ok, 14 minutes went by and now the AVI file is finally showing up in my email message and I can play the file within the message.
I don't know but maybe they didn't give the file enough time to download to their computer. It certainly gave me problems until it was all downloaded.
I have the latest OS and the latest Quicktime and it plays fine on my computer.

  • No audio after using capture now to log files

I'm trying to import some footage into final cut pro but having trouble getting the audio to work. I'm using my camera as a deck and I can hear the sound coming from the camera, I can also hear it when I'm logging/capturing and when i'm using capture now. someone had suggested that I turn off the audio in the sequence and canvas. I'm not sure how to turn it off in the canvas but i tried turning it off in the sequence and I still don't get audio after I capture the clips. Any ideas/suggestions?
    thanks

Was the source audio button checked to on in the Log & Capture > Clip Settings window?

  • Flip Video-AVI files HELP

We bought our daughter a Flip Video camera for Christmas. I was able to download the videos but now they play with sound and a white screen instead of video. The files are AVI. Someone please help me figure out what the heck to do!

    Search these forums.
In a nushell: According to the directions you install the codec contained on the Flip onto your Mac. Then grab the videos from the DCIM folder and save them to your Mac. You should be able to watch them.

  • Everything looks good except videos (AVI files)

    Hi,
Everything looks great on my macbook pro except videos which look horrible. The worst is videos I take with FlipMino or Kodak Zi8. They look fantastic on my destkop PC, but on my macbook pro, they look abismal.
The colors are ugly, the video is grainy, the greens have terrible color noise. It looks worst in Quicktime (with Perian and/or Divx installed) than in VLC, but VLC looks bad too.
Flash videos on the web are much better. Not as good as my desktop LCD (HP f2105 monitor).
    Any ideas? Pictures look AWESOME...
Also, in bootcamp, win7 installed, all colors are somewhat off.
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks.

Well i cant tell you exactly why the AVI movies are like that for you, but i would suggest that if every other Movie format looks good, i would suggest converting it to a different format. If you have QT Pro you can do that easily as well as iMovie.

  • Analogue video capture

I am soon to be switching from PC to Mac mini (as soon as it is delivered). I will be using this mainly for DV video editing using iMovie, however some of my video footage is on the Hi-8 format. Will the "Belkin USB2 DVD Creator" work on the Mac for capturing analogue video, Belkin do not seem to supply drivers for the Mac. Also is iMovie capable of handling analogue video?

Do you have a DV camcorder at the moment? Some DV camcorders have analogue inputs which are great. You can play and capture your analogue footage through the DV camcorder straight into iMovie.
Otherwise, Formac offer some products that you might be interested in.

  • Why won't iDVD burn my .avi files... it used to?

i have files ending in .avi that i want to burn to a DVD, in order to watch them on television.
i throw them into the iDVD and the preview shows nothing but a blank screen.
iDVD used to burn my .avi files.
i have converted them to .mp4 / .mpg / .mov... but nothing seems to work.
sometimes, throwing a .mp4 file into iDVD nothing happens at all, or it will say unsupported / unrecognized file.
the only time it did work was when i used a program to convert a file to .mp4, but now it has a huge watermark across the picture.
why all of a sudden does it not work?

    Hi
If QuickTime-player opens Your .avi files then start Inspector (cmd+I) and read
    Video Format/Codec: nnnnnnnnnnn
    What does it read ?
What did an old .avi file that worked - read ?
    Yours Bengt W
