Using ccc to port from a G4 to an Intel.

Can I place a carbon copy clone from my old G4 iMac on my new Intel iMac? Is the operating system different? ect...
I thankyou in advance for any advice.

Migration Assistant would probably be the easiest solution. You can find it in your Utilities folder.

I would like to extend the screen from my circa 2013 27in iMAC with thunderbolt onto my circa late 2006 imac using the DVI port on that iMAC. Is this possible? If not is there another approach I can use? My 2006 iMAC is showing it's age but I figure I can use it as just a monitor just fine. Assuming I can connect the two together.

That older iMac isn't designed to receive video input through the mini-DVI connection. Only certain newer iMacs are able to be used as displays.
Your only options are to use something like ScreenRecycler mentioned above.

  • MEASURING FORCE ON BALANCE USING AN ELECTRONIC BALANCE FROM THE SERIAL PORT

    Hi,
I am trying to measure FORCE using an electronic BALANCE from the serial port. My measurements are strange! The BALANCE sometimes give ZERO reading! Is it because of the sample rate, baud rate etc? I have attached the readings concerned.
    Attachments:
    databalance.doc ‏144 KB

I think your problem is due to the way you read the weight :
1/ask the balance to send the data
2/oversee the byte number on the serial port until it is constant
    3/read the bytes received
    4/convert to number
During step 2, you compare the bytes at serial port with the previous value. So far, you have been very lucky to be able to read something : the answer here is always ZERO since the readings occur BEFORE the balance has been able to send anything! means that your loop stops immediately (if you are not convinced, jujst add an indicator to display the loop index. However, since you added a wait (0.8 s), when going to step 3, the balance has had some time to send something. Here, you should not have read again the number of bytes at serial port, but that unwillingly corrects the previous error and you can read most of the received data...
You should modify completely your algorithm. Usually, a balance send the weight as a string with some terminator (RC or LF). Accordingly, the algorithm should be :
1/ask the balance to send the data
2/read the serial port, concatenating the received chars until a terminator char is received or a timeout has occured
    3/convert to number

I am unable to download pictures from my Sony Cybershot to my iMac, I have tried using the USB port as well as simply inserting the memory stick into the slot.  I have been able to do this in the past as recently as a few weeks ago.... Help please..

    Thanks Eric for responding.
I checked and it does not appear in the Applications folder.
I tried yesterday on an ethernet connection with a download speed of 2 Mbps but, unfortunately the connection died(It happened from the ISP end, which is out of my control) in between after which there was no trace of the download that happened for so long(till the internet connection death).
One more serious query which I am unable to understand. If the internet connection, dies in the midst of the download is in progress why is it so that the state does not persist and one has to restart the entire process again. Is there no solution for this?
I tried so many times and its the same case after some amount of download it vanishes. So many unsuccessful attempts. I am ****** off now. Is it not possible to see Mavericks? Why does different machines of Apple behave differently? Somewhere it goes smoothly and somewhere like my mine. Why did not Apple release a non apple store version? Is this not a bad sign of letting the users struggle when something is being offered for free?
The reason I asked as whether we can download the .app of Mavericks is that, there are so many applications that I have downloaded web and have installed. All that works fine. Can't we do the same here? You download a copy of Mavericks installer application and upload it for me in Google drive or like online storage places which can be downloaded and used by me? Help me understand.
    Thanks again.

  • Booting from a USB2 using backside/frontside ports and 24" LED ports

I created a bootable volume on a USB2 100GB drive and wanted to check it out. I tried using the following port options
    1. Backside ports on my Mac Pro (early 2009, 2.26 GHz 8-core) - DID NOT WORK
    2. 24" LED ACD's ports - DID NOT WORK
    3. Frontside ports - ALL WORKED
Options 1 and 2 using Power-up + Option key pressed displayed the USB bootable disk/volume but system would not boot from it.
Option 3 using Power-up + Option key pressed displayed the USB bootable disk/volume and system DID boot from it.
    Questions.
    1. Are the backside ports on a hub ?
    2. The 24" LED ACD's ports I know are on a hub, right ?
    3. I assume the fronside ports are not on a hub
    4. This means can boot ONLY is USB connected to a non USB hub, right ?

Yes, I mean that the rear ports are not on a hub. There's a USB bus for the front and rear ports. Each port is supposed to provide a maximum of 500 mAs of current to a single connected device. The total power suppled is supposed to be 15 watts on the front, and the same on the rear. A full-sized (3.5") drive system cannot be bus powered as the power requirements exceed that of the bus, but a notebook drive system should be OK as their power consumption is typically less than what the bus can supply.
The only USB hub on a stock Mac Pro is the standard keyboard's two USB ports. That is why you are instructed to connect the keyboard directly to a rear port. External drives should not be connected to an external USB hub unless the hub is separately powered.

  • Lync Client uses wrong RTP Ports for calls from/to RGS with Agent Anonymity

We have QoS implemented and client ports for audio, video und application defined by Set-CsConferencingConfiguration. We also use firewalls in our LAN between the different VLANs for Clients, Servers and Gateways/SBC. Only RTP from the client with the defined
ports are allowed by the firewall. Media ByPass is enabled.
In all normal cases, the right ports will be used and marked by GPO with the right DSCP value. But if an agent get a call from a RGS which has agent anonymity enabled, the client uses a port in the range 1024-65535 for audio. Also if you make a call on behalf
of the RGS, the client use a random port between 1024-65535. As soon, as the source of the call is in another VLAN (e.g. a call from PSTN which comes in over a SBC in e separate VLAN), the firewall between the two VLANs block the RTP traffic.
We see the deny on the firewall log and in the SBC log we see, the reinvite for the media by pass with the IP of the agent and a not valid port. We also see, that no RTP from the client/agent will arrive the SBC and no RTP from the SBC will arrive the client/agent.
So the call will be disconnected, as soon as an agent wants accept the call.
Is there an additional setting to make sure, the Lync client always use the valid RTP port range?
This behavior exist in Lync 2010 and Lync 2013 clients.

    Hi Holger,
    Thanks for reply!
Sure! I set all AudioPorts on all Services, but the problem are not the ports used by the server, the problem are the ports used by the client. We set the client ports to 49152 with a count of 40. The client (2013 and also 2010) use these ports correctly in all
cases exept for call from/on behalf of an RGS with Agent Anonymity.
If we disable the RGS agent anonymity, restart the client of the agent, then the client uses also the correct source ports for RTP.
I've checked this behaviour now on 3 customer installations, our own productive installation and in our lab.
Because until now only one of our customers have firewalls between the internal VLANs, only this single customer have the issues...

    Stephan

I've been connecting a sony PD170 via firewire to my Macbook pro to record directly using Quicktime pro. Can I use the usb port (and mini audio in) to accomplish this with a camcorder that doesn't have a fire wire port but does have USB out?

It could just be a bad disc - I use Verbatim and have only had one fail in a ten-year time period. Try getting a batch of Verbatims and see if you have any problems. I didn't even know that there were Kodak branded discs...

  • How do I clone an external disk using CCC?

I have a MacBook Air and because it has only 256 GB and I need about three times that space for storing movies, document files etc., I use an external hard disk to keep these files on.
I formatted this disk using Mac Extended Journal but I did not put the Snow Leopard Operating System on it. I just move files from the computer's hard drive to the disk as required.
I had a scare once where the data on another external hard disk was wiped out because of a faulty USB cord. All the movies were lost and I could not recover the data. The disk also failed to mount. This problem kept happening several times. When I got rid of the faulty USB cord, the external disk mounted and I never lost data again. I am certain all the problems were due to the faulty USB cord. I have been using the same external disk ever since and it has been working fine with the non-faulty USB cord so I am sure it didn't have anything to do with the disk and it was the USB cord that was the problem. I used the same faulty USB cord with other external disks and the same problems arose - failure to mount etc.
This is the background for why I want to make a copy of this external drive. I don't want to lose the movies and other data on this disk if something goes wrong again and want everything on another disk just in case.
I usually use Carbon Copy Cloner to make backups. But that is with a external disk that has OS 10.6.8 on it.
I really don't want to put OS 10.6.8 on the external drive where I store movies and other over-spill data on it.
How do I go about making a copy of this external disk using CCC (or using another program if CCC won't work for this)?
I have two USB ports on my MBA. I prefer to use CCC over SuperDuper because I had a problem with SuperDuper in the past.

So as I understand it, CCC will clone any disk to any disk so long as it's formatted to Mac (extended Journal) and I don't have to put the Mac operating system on the disks that I am copying from and copying to?
    Thanks for answering.

  • Problem removing partition using CCC please help

Yesterday I tried using CCC to clone my hard drive to a 2TB Lacie external hard drive I purchased at local Apple store. All I did was follow CCC instructions but after 3 attempts and communicating with CCC help I've given up. But I have a problem in that I partitioned my HD into 2 and cannot delete the bottom partition to regain the 120GB there. I'm trying to copy and paste here but so far can only copy this:
Disk Description : Hitachi HTS545025B9SA02 Media  Total Capacity : 250.06 GB (250,059,350,016 Bytes)
Connection Bus : SATA  Write Status : Read/Write
Connection Type : Internal  S.M.A.R.T. Status : Verified
Partition Map Scheme : GUID Partition Table
I'll try to describe as best I can. The Partition Layout:
pulldown is greyed out but says "Current"
The top partition is called Macintosh HD and is mostly blue. When I put my pointer on it this comes up; "This is the startup partition. You can't erase it. Size 124.6GB. Available Space: 30.03 GB"
The bottom partition is called Macintosh HD2 and is almost all white. When I place the pointer over it; "Size 124.47 GB. Space Available 118.74 GB"
On the right hand side of the screen there are instructions, "To erase and partition the selected disk, choose a layout from the Partition Layout pop up menu, select options for each partition and click Apply."
I can't do this because the pop up menu is greyed out.
I can change the size of the partition which doesn't help.
I tried simply clicking on the Macintosh HD2 partition and clicking the "-" box but could not unmount the partition.
"Options", "Revert", and "apply" all are greyed out
I can highlite Macintosh HD2 on the left hand side and click erase to erase any data on it, but don't hinkthat's a very good idea.
I just want to restore the HD to it's original single partition and try another shot at cloning, maybe with SUPERDUPER. Any  help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Keith

Sounds like you have your firewall turned on, which is good.
Check the online help files for iChat and firewall. You will find guidance to create a special ports setting that will clear up your problems. The specific ports to set in a new configuration will be listed. (With iChat frontmost, select Help > iChat Help.)

  • Cant use CCC to clone Snow Leapord mac to Mountain Lion mac

    hello all,
I just bought a MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 not retina), and it came with Lion OSX. I recently installed Mountain Lion OS and it appears to be working welll except I am having trouble using a cloned external drive. I cloned my 2007 MacBook (Snow Leapord), using CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner), onto a Seagate 320GB eternal USB Hard Drive. When I plug the drive into my new MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion, and go to system Preferences, startup disc, select the coned drive, and click restart, the computer shuts down and appears to be starting to restart, but it just stays on the white screen before the apple symbol shows up and the apple symbol never even pops up, it just stays white forever without booting up. Now, I tried using the drive as a startup disc for my dad's 2008 MacBook Pro with Leapord and it worked like a charm and also tried it on my sister's MacBook Pro (Lion) and it worked fine there too. Is there something about mountain lion that could be causing this problem? I even tried using Target Disc from my old mac (that i cloned) to my new one and it wasnt working either. If anyone has any ideas, please help! Are there any particular tricks to using CCC for Mountain Lion? Thanks for the help!!!

Thanks that makes sense, however, my sisters Macbook pro worked with it and hers is a 2011 and came with Lion, so I'm not sure what to make of that.
Right the Early 2011 model MBPs came originally with Snow Leopard installed and Apple updated SL to 10.6.8 to work correctly with the newer hardware in the Early 2011 models. Then in June Lion came out and then all shipping MBPs came with Lion Pre-Installed but they would still run SL if you had the 10.6.8 version of SL. Since the Late 2011 models were basically the exact same computer, just upgraded CPU and some other minor changes, as the early 2011 models even though the late 2011 models came with Lion Pre-Installed SL would work on those if you had the 10.6.7 or .8 version of SL.
Now with the newest Mid 2012 models all of the Base hardware was changed to the most current versions available, New hardware. Even Lion that worked on the late 2011 models will NOT boot on the Mid 2012 models.
The 2011 version/build of Lion does not have the correct driver package to work on the new hardware.
Apple put together a Special build of Lion to work on those newest system with an updated driver package for the newer hardware.

  • Can I use the Airport Express to connect to a Linksys Wireless Network and then use the Ethernet port on the Airport for a wired connection to a device for internet access?  Would I be able to then also use that Ethernet pt to a Ntwk Hub for more wired c

Thanks for the help.  Looked but not clear on what I am trying to do as being possible.  Can I use an Airport Express to connect wireless to a Linksys Wireless Router, such that I can then use the Ethernet ports on the Airport to either connected to a PC wired, or even use a hub off the Airport Express to allow multiple wired connections to it?
I am not looking to have the Airport Express extend my wireless network, just connect to it and provide me wired connections in a different location from where my Linksys Route is located.  Would prefer to replace Linksys with all Apple, but just not possible financially yet.  Thanks for the help.

If the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is an 802.11n model, then yes, you can reconfigure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, the AX would join the wireless network provided by the Linksys router and its Ethernet port would be enabled for either a single wired device or for an Ethernet hub or switch for multiple devices.

  • How do I use the USB port on my MBP for audio output

I am a fairly new commercial sound provider running live sound and the occassional itunes type playback at events.  I currently use a Y cable from the headphone output of my MBP osX  into the RCA inputs on my audio mixer.  On an older HP laptop I was able to use a USB output into the USB input of the mixer and the sound was a lot better in quality. I wish to do the same using the new MBP but when I plugged into the right side USB port I received no audio output.  What am I doing wrong?  Thanks howardfrom nh.

Have you gone into the Sound/Output system preferences to see if your mixer shows up there as a valid output device and if it does selected it there? If it doesn't appear, have you confirmed with the manufacturer of your mixer that it is compatible with Macs and if so asked if there are any drivers you need to install?
