Using Century Optics 16:9
Hi,
im using a Century Optics 16:9 adaptor. My question is would i edit it using a 16:9 preset or should i use a 16:9 preset in FCE. I started using a 16:9 preset vor importing and exporting but one of the problems i get is that when i adjust a sequence by changing the angle cause by lets say 1, the letter box is no longer even in thé end. As well im not sure if its preferable qualitiywise to use the footage as 16:9 during teh edit process. i intend to put the material afterwards on a DVD so possibly its better to set the material afterwards to 16:9, so simply unsure how to use it during edit and how to export is from FCE (perhaps different codes as well) Using a standard Mini DV, so no HD Camcorder. After the export to tape will be encoded to mpeg2 with a DVD Recorder. Thanks for your help.
yes this is what i did, but to be honest im not sure if its the best way to do it as im getting a crooked picture when i adjust the setting for it, and so the letter box bars are crooked as wel, am i missing something? i also see that in my opinion the picture quality is not perfect, meaning that some horizonatl lines flicker here and there, checked the settings for picture quality (importand export) but they say high, thx

MacBook Air does not have an optical drive. There is a program I wish to install on my Air which is an astronomy application called Megastar V. Installation requires the use of a CD. Is there a way to use the optical drive on my PC (toshiba laptop using Windows 7) to install this program onto my Air?

Using the optical drive of a MacBook Pro from new iMac for iTunes
Can I connect my macbook pro to my new iMac (no optical drive) with ethernet cable and use the optical drive of the macbook pro to upload CDs to iTunes on the new iMac?
On my 17" MacBook Pro I use the eSata port for Black X Duet Hard Drive Docking station where I put 2 1TB Hitachi internal drives. They are swappable and are about $80.00US. I use the USB port for my system backup and a G-force 500 MB bus powered portable drive on the FW800 port just for the heck of it. It works out really well for me.

Can I still use the Optical Drive if I install a SSD in my MacBook Pro?

I'm looking to replace the standard hard drive in my MacBook Pro with a 240GB SSD, my question is, does this effect the usage of the DVD/CD Drive? As i've seen in some videos people taking that out and putting the exsisting hard drive there.
I don't want to do that I will turn that in to an extra external hard drive.
Any information would be very welcome.

Hi jsnlvy, welcome to macbook forum.
well,.. apple recommend to use slightly water damped micro fiber soft cloth to clean the screen.
I sometimes sprayed lightly water based glass cleaner to that dampen fabric to get rid of stubborn smudge, and after that I use dry cotton ball in circular stroke motion to get rid the streak mark.
I am afraid that the Optical lens solvent is to strong for your screen and might damage your screen. But if you want to try it, dampen the cloth with water first as I did and applied at a small area and check it is safe.

Can I use the optical digital audio cable to connect INSTEAD of the hdmi? My tv only has 2 hdmi ports, and they're both taken
I'm afraid that's very misleading and inaccurate.
Firstly an adapter won't work, it would need to be a converter and then if it's a compliant converter it won't let you watch HDCP protected content such as that from netflix or from the iTunes Store.
Secondly, whilst I'm not going to debate whether component or HDMI is better, component is certainly not better if it's been converted from an HDMI signal. You can't make anything better by simply converting it to another type of signal. -

i think its better to set the XP system to fresh factory recover ,
if you answer all upper quest with no your S10e mainboard could be broken , so you have to call for service..

Using an optical cable causes Bose system to shut off
When I use an optical cable to play ATV2 through my Bose surround sound system, it turns the Bose system off after a few seconds. The Bose system works fine with the other components.
I just use mac the ripper with the following instructions

It gives you a few options for audio, I generally save as AAC though you can rip as AIFF and then encode into just about anything with quicktime. -
Use of optical out on new macmini dual core
I bought a new ~Belkin optical cable. It fits perfectly in my macmini and my bose 321 system. This 321 system has an optical entry. But ....
the description by the mac how to get the mac to use the optical out is not told. It is told to select optical out in the configuration screen under sound. I don't have this option! Ithought the updat of the minimac would have solved the problem, but it didn't. Please help me! I want to use this optical cable, so that I can use the bose system in combination with the minimac!
Kind regards David RietveldWith the exception, as noted of the DVD player, it's System Preferences>Sound>Output. Make sure you used the mini-toslink/optical adapter and that the cable is securely snapped into an INPUT port on your bose system. Everything will be (as noted) auto-detected, and you should see the option:
Digital Out Built - In Output
Select it. If you have multiple adapters for sound (ex a usb audio adapter), then you might want to select the digital output for use only w/ dvd player. Choose where you want your system sound and alerts sent in the other tabs of Sound.
On your bose unit you may have both analog and digital inputs for the same source. I'm not questioning your competence, more my knowledge the equipment you are utilizing. Make sure you select OPTICAL as the input for that source.
For example,
You have buttons for Video 1, Video 2, and DVD. On the back you have a coax digital, a couple of toslink/optical digital connectors and a bunch of RCAs. If you hook up ALL the wires from each device then press Video 1; it MAY just use the analog connections...and since you're ONLY sending digital you won't hear a thing.
If you have 'auto-detect' for analog or digital it probably prioritizes digital over analog and will merely work IF SELECTED. Some systems may do the reverse.

i'm trying to figure out a problem that i really can't find a solution,i'm using Logic studio 8 whith Digi 002rack and 7.4 core audio version,my question is how to select in logic the optical IN of the 002r that in my case is connected to my triton rack synth?
i can use the spdif in of the 002 but i can't find a way to use the optical in.

As far as I know only the Xbox 360 could be connected to a Qosmio and could be used with the Windows MCE.
I presume this is possible due to connection of Microsoft products; MCE and Xbox360
To be honest; why you dont take a look into the user manual if this notebook is new to you?
All details are mentioned in the user manual which is already preinstalled on the notebook. -
Using both Optical and Coax on Audigy 2 ZS Platinum

With the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro can both the optical and coax out be used at the same time for a single audio sorce?
I have a set of logitech z5500 speakers that I want to hook up on the optical/coax and am considering getting a second set to hook into the other input to double my speakers.DD,
There isn't any optical I/O jack on the Audigy 2 ZS soundcard at all so you won't be able to use your optical cable with the soundcard unless you have the I/O dri've bay like those from the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum or Platinum Pro. Do you have those I/O dri've bay instead of just the soundcard?

The optical cable that I have that fits into the back of my Playstation 2 does not fit into the mic in (which I thought is optical in as well)
So is it possible to have an optical cable go from a ps2 to the audigy 2 zs? Do I need a special optical cable?

Is it possible to disable HDMI audio while using digital optical?
As the title says I am looking for a way to do so as it is becoming a pain to turn down the audio on the TV each time when using my aTV. My TV doesn't allow me to mute the speakers depending on the input selected (it is all or nothing).
This post is more for Apple themselves to implement into the next version of iOS that they release for the device as I have tried through the menu but to no avail.Sadly my surround sound receiver does not have an HDMI input/output. Therefore the HDMI from the aTV runs to the TV and the digital optical to the surround sound receiver. I have coax cable connected to the TV (no need for an STB as the TV has a digital tuner) which requires the speakers to be enabled.
One would think that you wouldn't need audio through HDMI if infact you are using digital optical hence my request to allow this as a native feature through the settings of the aTV. -
How can I control a dc motor speed using an optical switch?
I am trying to use LabVIEW to create a VI that controls the speed of a DC motor. The system needs to have an user set rpm and the DC motor needs to adjust the duty cycle to obtain the correct rpm dependant on the load. A disk with holes and an optical switch is being used to measure rpm.
The current problem is that I cannot get the rpm based on the optical switch.
