Using Classic after Suitcase Fusion

I have a few machines that can still run Quark 4.1 in Classic mode for viewing legacy files.
Sadly, I installed Suitcase Fusion, which KO'd my ability to open any fonts in Classic apps. I have uninstalled Suitcase, using the Extensis Knowledge Base article on how to do it. But now, with Suitcase uninstalled, I still can't get any fonts to work in my Classic apps. I'm using the method of dropping the fonts directly into the System(9)Folder/Fonts folder. But when the apps open, none of the fonts I've added are available for use.
Any ideas on how I can regain the ability to add fonts for use in Classic, short of a re-install of system software?
Thanks.

I think eww figured it out in another thread:

+Are the fonts you're putting into that folder OS 9 fonts or OS X fonts?+
+I haven't used Suitcase in nearly 12 years and have no idea how Suitcase Fusion works with old-style fonts in OS X. If you think SF might have altered your old OS 9 font files in any way, make sure the ones you put in your System Folder/Fonts folder are copies of the original old fonts, not ones that have been touched by Suitcase.+

+Hey, I think that WAS the problem. Thanks for the great idea.+
+The fonts I tried to install at first had been through SF's Font Vault, so I went back to the archives and used the pre-SF versions, and that seems to be working.+

  • Adobe CC apps will not open after Suitcase Fusion 6 upgrade.

It appears that, after installing the recent Suitcase Fusion 6 upgrade (WIN7-64-bit) most of my Adobe CC apps won't open?!

CS2 seems to conflict with CS6.  One user found this to work.  AppData is a hidden folder in case you try this.
I finally got it to launch via instructions from another web page. In my case, I am running Win 7 Professional 64-bit and previously loaded Photoshop and Bridge versions CS2 (along with Illustrator and InDesign CS2), which might have been part of the problem. The solution for me was to create an empty "Bridge CS2" folder in the C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\. Worked like a charm.
You might have to use the Adobe Script Cleaner to get rid of traces of the CR2 files.

  • Fontbook fonts not syncing with my software programs-after SuitCase Fusion Trial

I am hoping someone can offer some insight / help. I am frantic .....a graphic designer needing my fonts asap!!
TRIGGER/ Problem arose today --  I installed and then uninstalled a trial version of Suitcase Fusion 3 today - and now 1/2 of my fonts are not recongnized by my software programs (ie: all Adobe software, MS Word, excel etc).
Basically when I open up FONTBOOK it shows all of my fonts under the ALL FONTS column, however when I want to use them in InDesign or PhotoShop or WORD, or Illustrator ....etc (you get the idea) ...they are not available from any drop down menues. It's as though the Fusion Software trial delinked them from use in all my applications?
Does anyone know how to reestablish fonts as they are listed / available in FONTBOOK?
Is there possible corruption OR is it just something I need to reestablish in my system?
    Thanks kindly,
    Jhoe

You used the software's built in uninstaller correct?
Because if you didn't you need to install it again, then use their uninstaller first.
    Next, download OnyX here
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/
Run ALL the maintenance and cleaning aspects, you can cancel the reboot in between, but you need to reboot at the end of using OnyX.
This page especially should be of extra interest, it will rebuild your font caches.
Going to take a little time, but hopefully that will fix your issue.
None of your programs, files or fonts will be deleted, it's just cleaning out the system so it can rebuild itself.
If it doesn't work, then what likely has happened is the trial software didn't completely remove itself or altered something and didn't place things back the way it should be.
You should contact the support people for that program. They might have instructions.
But since you can't always count on them, it's always best to have a "hold option bootable clone" of your boot drive on a external drive which you can reverse clone from or use if your boot drive dies, and/or a TimeMachine drive where you can restore back to a previous state before the software install occurred.

  • Life after Suitcase Fusion. How do I install a font manager to Tiger?

I just rid my Dual Processor G5 Power Mac w/ Tiger 4.7 upgraded system (gasp) of Suitcase Fusion, (say no more). I need to install Font Agent Pro 3 or FontExplorer X.
However, I'm green at the thought of reintroducing another font manager. Do I shut down Font book? I've read that no font manager should run side by side with font book, or any other font manager. I'm still suffering a little PSD.
G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Running Adobe Creative Suite

I guess my real gripe is that why? would Apple remove a feature from the OS that was there for more than 15 years...
A very good question. There are a lot of pre OS X features that have slowly worked their way back in, such as spring loaded folders. But why this feature still hasn't reappeared this far into OS X's development is puzzling and frustrating.
I'd never heard of Font Smasher before, so looked it up and downloaded the demo. Being from the same folks who produce Font Agent Pro, it's probably pretty nice software. Rather pricey though at $49 for a single usage application. Especially for someone in your position who would have to purchase more than a few copies in order to spread them around the shop. I'll stick with using Font Doctor for now since I already have it.
But yes, it drives me a bit nuts that we still can't do this as easily as we could in OS 7 - 9. A copyright issue Apple had to conform to? Not very plausible since we could do this up until OS X. About all you can do is give Apple feedback and ask that we get this function back. I'm sure you know as well as I some of the mishmashed suitcases clients send that need to be cleaned up in order to use them.
The need to do able to get into font suitcases will be around for a long time, so it's not a minor thing.

  • Indesign Link Issues after Suitcase Fusion 3 update

    Hi Guys,
    First time poster here...
I installed the latest Suitcase Fusion 3 update this morning and ever since my indesign CS5.5 links panel has been acting strangly!
I'm opening .indd files and the links to placed files are missing, no biggy there, I just re-link them and everything is good... until I hit save, as soon as I hit save the links show the error icon again in the links panel.
    Anybody got any ideas???
    Thanks very much

We just updated Suitcase Fusion 3 to address this issue. Download the update from this location:

  • Photoshop CS6 and Suitcase Fusion 4

I am trying to work with my previous Photoshop files I created last night on CS5.5 and Suitcase Fusion 4.  All my loaded and active fonts are not active in Photoshop.  How do i get my fonts to be activated in my adobe applications??

I'm using CS6 and Suitcase Fusion 4 like lots of other folks, and there is a huge list of fonts showing up for me in the drop-down menu. If you really have fonts enabled (either via Suitcase or the OS), they should be available. The only thing that doesn't work right now, because a Suitcase update isn't yet available, is auto-activation. You should still be able to manually activate them and make them available.
Make sure you (1) manually activate the font and (2) quit and relaunch Photoshop after activating the font (not all programs will notice a font activation on-the-fly).
If you've done the above and it's still not working, and you can verify that the fonts are available to other programs, then my guess is you have a problem with your Photoshop install...? (*shrug*)
Are you using Mac/Windows (I'm Mac and can't really help much on the Windows side of things)?

  • Suitcase Fusion won't open after installing the 10.5.8 update - Solution

This is a bit of an open and shut post as I've found the solution, but it's a bit obscure so thought I'd stick it up here in case anyone else had this problem.
After installing the 10.5.8 update, Suitcase Fusion (am using v12.1.7) would bounce once in the dock and then abort. I called Applecare (who had surprisingly not heard of this Application) and they suggested moving the com.extensis.suitcase.plist preferences file to the desktop and restarting my Mac (essentially resetting Suitcase Fusion).
    No joy.
I didn't feel that re-installing Suitcase Fusion was going to do any good, so said thank you and went back to scouring Google …and lo, the solution was there all along…
The problem had something to do with the *Bonjour Name* of my Mac. Apparently, if you have any special characters in your *Computer Name* or if it exceeds 20 characters, then this causes a problem with the *Bonjour Name* and then consequently with Suitcase Fusion …simples.
See? …told you it was obscure.
    Solution:
    1. Open *System Preferences > Sharing*
    2. Change the *Computer Name* to something shorter with no spaces or special characters, something like MyName-MacBookPro
(NB. If you're not logged in as an Admin user, you'll need to click the lock and enter a password first)
    3. Click Edit… to ensure that the .local name is the same
    4. Close *System Preferences* and restart your Mac
And Bob's your Uncle, that should do the trick :o)

That may be, but I didn't find it without considerable digging. And neither Applecare nor Extensis had heard of the problem/solution.
Just thought it would be helpful, that's all.

  • Suitcase Fusion 2 stops working after 10.5.6!!!!

Just updated to 10.5.6 thinking that it would be as safe for me as others in the past have been. However, ever since installing this update, version Suitcase Fusion 2 no longer works. It now crashes every time you launch it (no reason why it crashes, it just starts and stops almost immediately).
When booting up, the Suitcase Fusion icon automatically appears on the dock for a few seconds, and then disappears. If I try to run the program manually, it starts and stops almost immediately. I'm not presented with any kind of crash report or anything....it just doesn't work.
Has anyone else experienced this? What kind of changes to font management could this update have made that's rendered Fusion useless?
Any help will be appreciated as I depend on that program for my work.

Having same problem too. Just updated to 10.5.6 and am using 12.1.7. I tried removing Fusion from the login items and then adding back, that didn't work, so I removed again and just launch after restart as a "regular" application and that would not start either. 10.5.6 broke fusion 12.1.7.
Yes I could upgrade to v13 but Im saving my shekels, or trying to at least. Not to mention that v13 is only a couple weeks old, you'd think that they'd still make sure that 12.1.7 worked.
Simply use your backup to revert to 10.5.5 until this issue is resolved, one way or the other.
    The update instructions state:
    "Installation recommendations
Back up your computer prior to installing any updates.
Quit any open applications before starting the installation.
Do not interrupt the installation process.
You may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications installed, or if you have modified the operating system through other means, or if you have moved Apple applications from their default locations (the /Applications or /Applications/Utilities folders). (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)"
Since 3rd party developers may not all have access to the Leopard updates prior to their release, it is never a good policy to update before checking these boards first.
Unless 10.5.6 will fix an issue one is having, there is never a need to be first to install it, especially if Leopard was working properly before the update.

I cannot eject my new ipod classic after sync with i-tunes on my pc due, it states, to open files being used by another application. What does this mean? How can I get my ipod to eject?

If it's a one-time "glitch," you can try restarting your computer with the iPod still connected.  Try ejecting again after the restart.
If the problem recurs, you may have a process running (other than iTunes) that is accessing the iPod's storage.  When connected, the iPod's "disk" is like other mounted volumes.  This process may be some type of utility that continously monitors your mounted volumes for security reasons, such as to prevent access by malware.
If you know of such a program that you have running in the background, there may be a setting to exclude your iPod's disk.

  • Extensis Suitcase Fusion will not launch after updating to 10.5.7

Just recently updated to OS 10.5.7 and now I can't launch Extensis Suitcase Fusion software. Repaired permissions and hard drive, removed Suitcase from the login items list in my account under System Preferences, reinstalled Suitcase and updated to latest version (12.1.7), but still not working. Can't delete preferences file for Suitcase because it doesn't appear on my hard drive. Found a recommendation to click on RESET_SUITCASE script but that script doesn't appear on hard drive either.
Anyone else with similar Suitcase issues and a potential solution?
    Many thanks in advance!

Hi and thanks. I had already been to Extensis and read that article...couldn't perform recommended steps since there seems to be no preferences file for Suitcase on my hard drive.
No surprise that Extensis recommends an upgrade fix. I will hold out for now in hopes that someone out there has just the trick I need.
I appreciate that software/hardware developers are anxious to give us the latest and greatest at every turn, but am getting a little weary of trying to keep up with all the upgrades, especially when one seems to continually lead to another...
In any case, thanks again. Anyone with any other suggestions, please share. Thanks!

  • AI/CS4 crashes on Start-up - Suitcase Fusion 3 Issue?

I installed Suitcase Fusion 3 the other day.  Now Illustrator crashes on startup.  Could it be part of the SF3 auto-activation?  It wouldn't be the first time it caused a problem, but I un-clicked the "Illustrator CS4" button, and it still crashes.
I did contact Extensis, and Isent them a System Profile Report.  Their guy says he "sees some strange things" in it, and asked about classic and if I changed the default install location for AI CS4.
    Any help will be appreciated!

I just wrote something in another thread here concerning Fusion and Font Book. They don't play nice with each other.
This should have came with your Fusion3 Install, but check out page 8 of this PDF:
    http://doc.us.extensis.com/SuitcaseFusion3-User-Guide-Mac.pdf
On my work station, after setting up Font Book's preferences, I "disable" the program by making it a .zip archive so that it does not launch.
Concerning your .ai preferences, you have to go to the actual folder in your "Library" and delete the preferences. Illustrator will recreate this file once you launch it again.
And you can also go to the plug-ins folder within the illustrator folder to remove the Fusion3 plug-in.

  • Illustrator 11.0.2 crashes network MAC OS 10.5.6 Suitcase Fusion 12.1.7

Just a heads up for anyone out there using Illustrator 11.0.0. Before what happened below I had already updated to the so called version 11.0.2.
What happened was my connection to my airport extreme kept logging out when I loaded Illustrator. I have external drives connected, one is a resource folder with my fonts on.
    b Here's what happened:
b I don't know if the issue was caused by:
    * updating my OS from 10.3 to 10.5
    * changing from Suitcase X1 to Fusion
b The chain of events were thus:
    * I updated my OS to 10.5.6. Illustrator worked fine
    * updated suitcase to Fusion 2 (then found out it doesn't work for Adobe CS1) Illustrator crashes network connection
    * updated suitcase X1 to Fusion 1
    * illustrator still continues to crash connection
So I removed illustrator and fusion. then I installed illustrator again and fusion... no update to 11.0.2.
    Illustrator works fine.
As I say not sure what was making loading Illustrator lose my network connection. Was it the fonts being on the external drive connected to the airport? I don't think so as it's working fine now.
I think it's something to do with the 11.0.2 update and Fusion.
Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone is having a connection issue loading illustrator with the above system and software.
    Cheers
    Glynn

    Hi Scott
Illustrator 11.0 works fine with OS 10.5.6. The only issue is the upgrade to 11.0.2.
I think this is because it's an update into the classic environment, which isn't part of 10.5 or 10.4. 10.3 pre-loaded with the classic OS, which is what, I believe, the two files are for.
I'm not blaming Adobe for the issue (don't get so defensive dude), just giving people the heads up if they are having similar trouble with Illustrator 11 working on 10.4 or 10.5. A fresh install, with no updates resolved the issue for me.
I know Adobe want us all to upgrade, which is fair enough, but when I first bought everything new it cost me close to £11,000 in software and computers. As a one man band the upgrade from CS1 Premium to CS4 Premium is (at a special offer rate from Adobe) £500 (which will be £715). Then I'd need to Upgrade Quark from 6.5 to 8 (costing £299) THEN I'd need Suitcase Fusion 2, another £40 and probably something else then. So just under £900 or $1,248. Money I don't have yet.
So basically Adobe need to realise, as do other software providers, that people can't keep upgrading to every release and try, in some way, to help ensure older software still works.
BUT to reiterate, I'm only posting this to try and help people and not have a go at Adobe.
    Point made I hope.

  • Typekit sync problem in Photoshop (Suitcase fusion?)

I am on a Mac OS X 10.9 and all my CC apps are up to date
I installed a few desktop fonts from Typekit. They worked fine in Photoshop but after restarting my Mac the fonts were disabled in Photoshop. I then turned file and font sync of/on in CC settings, and it partly fixed the problem. But one of the typefaces are still disabled (LFT Etica - Bold).
I am using Suitcase Fusion 2.0. I can see from other threads that it may cause troubles.
