Using coldfusion for forms

Hello, i want to use coldfusion for forms, but i have no clue
to use it!!! would be someone to help me outo? the thing that i
want to do is to include a form on my web-page and then when
sombody fill the info like name, adress, email and so on and on,
then they submit the form and it goes to my email adress,
so if there is some one that could tel me would be great,

It is.... just not ALL of your help. Those
developers that tend to be successful are usually self motivated
enough to acquire sufficient knowledge through their own initiative
so that they can make the best use of resources such as these
forums. To come to a forum like this and basically say "I don't
know anything. Tell me what to do." is a lazy person's attitude and
is not going to elicit much sympathy.
As for your suggestion that "
maybe you should get your self also a book and then when you
have knowledge you could reply to people asking for some help",
you might notice that virtually all of the 3772+ posts that I have
submitted over the years is to help someone with a problem, not to
ask a question. In fact, I can't remember the last time that I
submitted a request for help, although I do learn quite a lot
myself from participating here.

Should I USe ColdFusion For This?

I need to build a simple web form for data entry into a
database table. The form is to be located on my company website. It
doesn't have to be fancy at all, just functional. What I'm
wondering is- is ColdFusion the best tool for this job? Should I be
using DreamWeaver? And also- if I use either of these technologies
to build this form, will it only work on a server that has these
technologies installed?

Should we use Citrix for Forms ?

My Customer is going to migrate his Forms-Application to Forms10.
We know a couple the problems/differences we should be aware of.
For example we create files on the local PC and open them with MS-Excel .. We could create those files on the AS, with unique naming, we could open them in the browser. We could also create them on the Client with webutil or transfer the file from the AS to the client with Webutil.
But for a couple of workplaces (in different locations) my Customer is going to use Citrix with Thin-Clients. The Thin-Clients will run MS-Office on the Citrix-Server so the User-Files will be on the Citrix-Server or the File-Server.
In this Scenario, what is the best approach on running Web-Forms ?
1. Try to create a Thin-Client image with all the Java-Classes installed (because once turned off it will start from scratch again) and run Forms-UI on the Thin-Client Browser. But where should we store those files ?
2. Run Web-Forms on Citrix (which is unsupported I think) and the we could store the User-Files on the normal Citrix-Userspace woth Webutil which then runs on the Citrix-Server

The main question is because the Users are running Citrix on the Thin_Client anyway. The Thin_clients don't have local-Disks (only 64 MB for Temp, myabe more in the future but not a lot). And all their Userspecific Files (f.e. Office-Documents) are used in the Citrix-Environment.
If I now have a form which creates an excel-File and calls Excel to open it (That's what we do today) How should i do it if Office doesn't run on the thin_client locally.

Urgent!! Splash screen problems when using 9iAS for forms

I'm having some difficulty getting rid of the "Oracle Developer" splash screen that comes up when running a form from 9iAS using jinitiator v1.1.8.10.

Did you shut down the database before moving files?I didn't move any files, I just copied some files to the other node.
Can you connect in sqlplus?Yes that was possible. I also had a connection to the database using TOAD.
After looking for the problem together with a colleague I've found out that I had to add some more listening addresses. The problem was that my nodes node1 and node2 have the IPs 10.10.10.2 and 10.10.10.3 but the virtual server of the cluster which forms the database oracledb for the clients runs on 10.10.10.103. So there was the name for e.g. node1 in the configuration files but also the IP-address 10.10.10.103 which the system couldn't resolve. After adding all possibilities using the Net Manager and after restarting the services it worked fine. At least until now. I haven't tried everything yet... I will go on tomorrow... thx so far.

Is there a utility to import security for Forms?

I have used the importsecurity.exe utility to successfully import entity, account, and other dimension security. But it doesn't work for Form security. Is there another way or a way to trick the utility and use it for forms?
Version 9.2.1 Windows environment. SQL server is the database

I have over 200 forms for one application with over 700 lines of security.
As a test, I manually added a few rows of security directly into the HSP_access_control table and restarted the planning service and that worked. So it looks like I could load all the data directly via a SQL query to accomplish this. I merely need to match-up my object names and related object security from PROD to the object_id's and group ID's in Dev (which are slightly different due to dev and prod security being out of sync)
Any thoughts on what could go wrong??

Hello community. I have created a site for my son's
kindergarten for free because I wanted to say thanks, since my son
was very happy.
The site has been created using coldfusion because I gave
them some control on news, new children, waiting list, etc.
They just asked me they want to be able to modify all the
content of the site, so I started working on a CMS for it.
There are two section on the site, video gallery and photo
gallery that are flash - XML based galleries.
I know that if I explain to them how to modify the XML files
in order to change photos and videos, they'll screw the gallery.
Is there any way I can access the content of my XML file from
coldfusion and allow modification, like adding new photos to the
existing ones, or modifying the caption on the existing ones?
So basically I need to them to be able to click on "Modify
photo gallery", then see all the childs (photos) and be able to
modify/add.

If you are using ColdFusion 7/8 this should be quite easy.
You'd basically:
1) Read the XML file into ColdFusion memory
2) Loop through the nodes you need etc outputting them to a
page or dynamically built form fields
3) Allow the user to edit these fields then on submit have
ColdFusion tale the variable holding the form data and write it to
an XML file again via a loop, overwriting the previous file.
Clearly you'll need to be careful on validating the input but
it should be pretty straightforward.
I didn't have time to write any code but look at the
following functions and tags to find out more:

How do I get the _pageid using wwpro_api_parameters for a form published as a portlet

Hi, I need to be able to determine which page my form component is running on.
Is it possible using the pl/sql api to determine the value of the _pageid parameter?
The wwpro_api_parameters package does not expose all of the parameters in the URL. I need the _pageid parameter.
The only alternative I can think of, is to output some Javascript in the before form PL/SQL section that stores the document url in a cookie, which is then retrieved using the OWA_COOKIE package.
Surely there is a better alternative?
I am running 3.0.9.8.1 (patched) on Windows NT.
I know report components published as portlets have access to p_page_url? Is there something similar for form components?
I know I am unlikely to get a response!

Instead of creating multiple forms, 1 in each different language, for the same service, is there any workaround?

Hoan - is your question what are the considerations when creating multiligual catalogs? If so, I can tell you that at other clients I have seen them use a single catalog for one or two languages. For the two langugages, such as Spanish/English, you can create a single catalog with both of them. Once you get to more than two languages, the catalog would get unweildy and is therefore not suggested.

How can we use a pdf form multiple times for different people (students)?

Our school created a pdf form of our report card but we are not able to "save as" the forms for use by multiple teachers for multiple students. Please advise.

Just use Adobe Reader XI. Adobe Reader XI allows for forms data saving but it does NOT allow for locking down that data.

In making a form, I've used buttons for user to select a state. Can I make it go to cities next?

I don't know the correct terminology, so I don't think that I've posed my question very well. Employees will be using the form that I'm trying to make, and I want for them to be able to select a city from a large number of cities, and for that city to ultimately show up on the form (not merely in the data that is output.)
I thought that the clearest way for them to select a city would be for them to start by selecting the pertinent state first. That would allow the list of cities in that state to be shorter and more manageable. So I'd like for them to be able to select a state, and then by virtue of that selection, have a list of cities pop up. I sort of achieved that by using buttons for the states, and then under "actions", I chose "open a file". Then I set it up to open a file that contained the cities that are options,and set each city with a button.
The result is that it goes from my form to a second window, containing states and then to a third window, containing cities. (Actually, there are multiple "city" windows because there's a list of cities for each state.) But then I'd like for the city that they select to wind up being on my original form. Is there an "action" that I can choose that will make that happen?
Or is there a better way to accomplish what I'm trying to accomplish? Maybe I'm just going about this all wrong(?) Any suggestions would be very much appreciated Thank you!

Yes, there is a much better way. I'd recommend using a combo box for the list of states. When the user selects a state, the list of associated cities would populate a second combo box, allowing the user to select a city. This type of functionality relies on JavaScript. If you are unfamiliar with with JavaScript in Acrobat, I'd suggest starting with the following article: http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/2007/js_list_combo_livecycle/

How do I reset responses (and summary report data) and use my online form for a new application?

I created my online form, distributed it and captured the responses - worked well. Now I want to use the same form and start over (track the responses separately from the first time). How do I reset the results / responses? Thanks for any help you provide.

Go to the My Forms tab on the main dashboard (were all of your forms are listed). Select your form and hit the duplicate button. This will make a copy of your form and you have the option to include or not include the responses in the copy.
