Using Color 1.5.3 to Color Correct before editing multiclip

Have a multiclip sequence, from 2 camera shoot that I need to adjust; but when I tried loading multiclip sequence into color, edit and send back to FCP, it didn't recognize the clips.
What's the best workflow for doing this?
Is there anyway to correct an edited multiclip.... after editing?

Hi David,
The manual is pretty good at explaining what needs to be done to a sequence before sending it to Color. It's always been a bit weird because it's never integrated properly into the whole suite completely.
To simplify it a little, basically you need to either breakout or consolidate any nests, collapse any Multiclips and flatten any composites. Also make sure that they are all in a single format type like ProRes422. Also check any file/clip names to make sure they don't have any '/' or '&' etc.
That way it goes back and forth prettymuch without a glitch.

  • How to use AppleScript to set "character fill color" in Pages 5.2?

    For Pages 5.2 on OSX 10.9.3, what is the correct applescript for changing the "character fill" of text in pages.
    If you highlight text, you do this via your mouse in the inspector by clicking "style," "advanced option (the gear wheel to the right of bold, italics, and underline), "character fill color (clicking on the multi-color circle, not the dropdown menu), and then choosing a color that comes up in the "colors" dialogue box.
    I've looked all over and cannot find how to use applescript to set the character fill color in pages.
    In some examples (not directly related) I see "character fill" used.
    In others, I see "colorfill."
    Basically, I want to use applescript, embedded in a keyboard maestro macro, to change the background color of the text (not the text color itself) to particular colors.
    Given the changes and updates to Pages this year, and to applescript, what's the easy way to do this?
    Thanks!
    Chuck

    Pages v5.2 still does not include selection-object, or character background color entries in its AppleScript dictionary, as does Pages ’09. Indirectly, using System Events, you can get the text selection in Pages v5.2, but then you can do nothing to change the selection. No assurances as to if or when Apple will mature the AppleScript dictionary support for Pages v5 series.

  • Colorized Grayscale Images Do Not Print Correctly

    Hi, we're having trouble getting proper color output when we colorize grayscale TIF files in InDesign.
    We have just a couple basic grayscale TIF files, no transparency, saved with or without embedded profiles (Dot Gain 20%).
    We add a foreground and background color to these in InDesign (CS3) using process colors (no spots). These colors should, and need to, match a couple large swatches of these colors elsewhere on the document.
    When we check the colors using Separations Preview, the numbers on the light and dark parts of the image are identical to the process colors they should be. They look correct on screen (with or without Overprint Preview).
    We usually print using 'Postscript Printer Determines Color' and let our RIP determine color settings (we have a Doc12 w/ Splash RIP). We tried many different settings on the RIP, no luck. We also tried printing using 'Let InDesign Determine Colors'. No luck. The colors are just slightly off. (ie - 0, 30, 100, 0 looks almost like pure yellow, much brighter).
    If I export to a PDF and print, it looks correct. If I make a CMYK version of the photo in Photoshop and use a gradient map to apply the same colors, it prints correctly.
    - ANY IDEAS???
    Thanks a lot.

    Hmm. We've always had much better color when we allow our RIP to handle the conversions. We've setup our RIP with a custom profile that we print to that gets color closer than using pre-canned defaults on the paper we're using.
    I did try using 'Let InDesign Determine Color', though, and still had the same issues.
    Thanks, though.

  • Color correcting multi edit clips

    I need some help. I would like to do the color correcting on 3 clips that will be used in a multi edit. The way I have been color correcting the footage is to just drag the whole clip on the timeline and do the color correcting before I do any editing and cutting of the clip. Is there a way I can do the same thing with multi cam clips? Once they are on the timeline, the corrections are made on the timeline, but the original clips don't change?
    Bruce Cleveland

    I think Jerry is suggesting you do the following:
    -Duplicate your clip in the browser (option-d)
    -Dbl-click the new clip (will load it in viewer)
    -Apply Color Correction (this will affect the clip as it resides in your browser, leaving the original master clip untouched)
    -lather/rinse/repeat for all clips to be used in multiclip
    -create your multi-clip and edit away
    Can I also do this with clips on the timeline
    There are procedures for this within a multiclip environment, but I'm not remembering them well enough and no longer have access to a multiclip system for review and assistance. Check your manual..I remember this part frankly being a little convoluted, so a search of this forum or the other previously posted links should help.

  • Using "Press Quality" dulled down the colors in my document.

    I'm wondering why a PDF I made using the "Press Quality" option has altered the colors in the document, (the document is essentially a collection of color comic strips), basically dulling them down, especially the red shades. All the colors, in general, have a less vibrant look, (especially noticeable when printed). Even the black areas look greyer instead of jet black on the computer screen, (although the black looks fine when printed).  I saved the same document as a PDF using the "High Quality" option, and the colors were correct, birght and vibrant  However, I would like to use the "Press Quality" option when I go to print, but I do need to get the colors to show accurately. Any thoughts?

    Actually, the colors were never in RGB format. I always work in CMYK, being that I'm intending my work for print. Screen colors aren't really an issue here; it's what shows up in the printed version. For example, when I create a comic strip TIFF in Photoshop in CMYK format, it shows up exactly how I intended when printed. In the case of this PDF, the comic strips were indeed CMYK format from the start. In fact, when I created an identcial PDF using the "High Quality" option, the colors came out correctly when I printed that PDF. It was only when I tried using the "Press Quality" option that the colors were altered.
    You may be wondering, why don't I just use the "High Quality" setting, then? Well, it appears the "Press Quality" setting prints out in finer detail. I just need to get the colors to look correctly when printed.

  • Book Module Lightroom 4 -- can I use a color picker to pick a color from a photo to use as the backg

    I am trying to match a background color for a page in a Blurb book using the Lightroom 4 Book Module.  Is there any way I can use the color picker to pick a color from the photo to use as the color for the background and as the type color?  I see the color box for these situations, but the color picker only seems to work with the color array that pops up and doesn't go to the photo.  Any suggestions?  Am I overlooking something very obvious?

    It works for me.
    The usual Lightroom way: click the eyedropper onto the color palette first, then hold and drag to your photo to sample color.

  • Using a script to get the color of a colorized Black & White Bitmap image

    I've been running into this wall for quite some time and would greatly appreciate any help that can given for it.
    I have an Illustrator script that runs inside of a BridgeTalk session within an InDesign script.  Yeah, it's complicated.  The upshot is that the Illustrator part opens up an EPS file, looks through all objects on a certain layer in that file, and returns an array of the colors used in it.  So, it looks at fill colors, stroke colors, gradient stops, etc.  One of the biggest stumbling blocks (next to PlugIn Items, which I'll ask about in a separate post) is getting the color of raster images.
    Most raster images, I realize, are going to be CMYK or RGB images, but our company mostly deals with either Grayscale images or Black & White Bitmaps that are embedded in the EPS file.  Those two allow the ability to colorize them by simply selecting them and then choosing a color, such as a spot PANTONE color from one of their color books.
    Now, I need the script to read the color that the raster image has been colorized with.  This works okay for images that have a GrayScale color space, as the script just looks at Colorant[0] of that image.  However, I run into a problem with Black & White Bitmap images.  Here's a piece of code that I try to make work with an EPS file that has a raster image:
    var document = app.activeDocument;
    for (var i = 0; i < document.layers[0].pageItems.length; i++) {
              // Stepping through each item on the layer.
              var currentItem = document.layers[0].pageItems[i];
              $.writeln("Current item is " + currentItem.typename);
              $.writeln("Number of channels is " + currentItem.channels);
              $.writeln("Color Space is " + currentItem.imageColorSpace);
              $.writeln("Colorized Grayscale? " + currentItem.colorizedGrayscale);
              $.writeln("Number of Colorants: " + currentItem.colorants.length);
              for (var j = 0; j < currentItem.colorants.length; j++)
                        $.writeln("Colorant number " + j + " is " + currentItem.colorants[j]);
              $.writeln("Its parent is " + currentItem.parent);
              $.writeln("Parent's typename is " + currentItem.parent.typename);
    This code runs successfully on an Illustrator file that has a Black & White Bitmap image on the top layer, but if you try and run it, you'll see the problem:  Even if you've colorized your Bitmap image with a PANTONE spot color (and the script even returns "true" on the line "Colorized Grayscale?"), Colorant number 0 is "Gray".  It should be the spot color assigned, not "Gray".
    Can anyone please help me figure out how to get the script to recognize the actual colorant of a Black & White Bitmap image in Illustrator?

    If you're a professional photographer with 50,000 pictures stored now and more coming all the time, you need to forget about using iPhoto and get yourself some professional-quality digital asset management software. iPhoto is not meant for people like you, and instead of providing a simple, elegant one-stop answer to all your needs, iPhoto is actually complicating your life.
    You need an application that will:
    - catalog ALL your images and keep track of where they are, no matter how many DVDs, folders, partitions or hard drives they're spread over;
    - display thumbnails of ALL of them, even when the DVD that contains them is not present in any drive, so you can select all the ones you want for a project;
    - find and copy (or export) the originals of all the files you've selected in the browser window, even if it means prompting you to insert the necessary DVDs for all of them.
    I suggest Googling "digital asset management software Macintosh" and seeing what turns up. I used to use an old version of Extensis Portfolio, and even that would have been better for your purposes than iPhoto is.

  • Using the Color Guide with two base colors?

    I have two colors that I would like the Color Guide to pick other colors that will work well with them. Is there a way to do this? If I select just the green color as my base color and then select a color rule, the colors do not seem to go well with my other color.
    Thanks in advance.

    The colors being used are RGB colors #75959B and #6BB130. I am still working on developing my ability to select colors that work harmoniously together, that is why in the meantime, I am hoping to use the Illustrator Color Guide.
    I am trying to create instructional handouts that use screenshots from Evernote, and Evernote uses green #6BB130 as the dominant color (see attached). I am trying to find a solid color that will work well with this green that I can use to create a banner at the top of each page (see second attached image) that will have a title on it and some other info. This solid color of the banner also has to work with #75959B because that is the color that will be used for the logo.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Mouse pointer disappears after using the magnifying glass in the color picker

    Hello,
    I've a problem (one more) with Lion on a Mac mini 2010. Every time I select a color from the screen using the magnifying glass in the color picker, the mouse pointer disappears. I've to move the mouse to the top of the screen and try to click the bar menu. If I succeed, I get the pointer back.
    Someone with the same problem?
    Thanks for reading

    I've found a partial solution: The probem doesn't affect to a new fresh user, so you can backup your data, create a new temporary (admin) user, delete the original account and create it again with the same name (to avoid file permission troubles). Remember to backup your data or it will be lost.

  • Color Correct before or after compressing to Pro Res?

    Hi,
    I have about 53:00 of footage that is 90% xdcam hd 422 footage (1080i60, 1920/1080, 29.97fps).  Unfortunately, some of the material was shot 23.98.  After researching it, I converted those to Pro Res 422 29.97.
    I need to deliver the project in either XDCam 422 HD or Pro Res.  Since I had the 23.98 issue I'm going to convert everything to Pro Res.
    I will need to deliver the entire media managed project.  So I'm going to compress to Pro Res then.
    My question is, should I color correct before or after?  I'm still waiting to get final approvals so I'd love to start color correcting now, but I hate to waste time if it's not going to be accurate later.  Nothing is broadcast safe and the chroma need to be pumped up in the interviews and taken down in other places.
    My deadline is next friday, so it has to be at FedEx on Thursday.
    Thanks for you help!

    Does anyone have an opinion?

  • Do I color correct angles before making multiclip?

    Hi guys,
    I have two individual angles I'm going to sync and make a multiclip out of. One of my clips is horribly bright and requires some serious fixing in Color.
    Do I color correct or add filters to the individual angles BEFORE making the two angles into one multiclip? Or is there some way to color correct the entire angle after making it into a multiclip?
    --also, any reason why my canvas when changing angles in a multiclip would show it in 4:3 while the actual video is 16:9 in both the viewer and timeline?
    Thanks

    You could color correct before if you like, if your angle is rock solid and the changes will be consistent throughout. I don't do it that way but have been tempted.
    If you do it after finishing the multiclip edit then you will need to copy one color corrected clip and then paste attributes to the other appropriate clips.
    As a rule I color correct when my edit is finished.

  • Can you use color splash on a photo that was edited in black and white or do you have to mask the photo before editing it in black and white?

    can you use color splash on a photo that was edited in black and white or do you have to mask the photo before editing it in black and white?

    I think you are asking whether it makes an difference whether you create the mask before or after you edit the black & white version. The answer is that since the color version and the b&w version are on different layers (as seen here), it makes no difference when you edit the b&w version.
    Also consider another technique that separates the color element in the image. Here, the area surrounding the color image is a line interpretation of the scene, similar to a Tone Line Conversion, a technique that was created with film many years ago.  (I am so old,  I still remember how it was done.) This is how to get the result similar to the one shown above but with a line illustration created in Photoshop replacing the b&w layer version:
    1. Open an image. This technique is more successful if the image you select has many clearly defined edges.
    2. Make a duplicate layer. (Cmd+J). It becomes Layer 1
    3. With Layer 1 chosen, go to Filter>Blur>Smart Blur. Set the Quality to High and the Mode to Edge Only. The default settings are Radius 3.0, Threshold 25.0. To increase the amount of detail in the line conversion, raise the Radius setting. Use the white-on-black illustration within Smart Blur as a guide. Then click OK.
    4. The line illustration will appear as white lines in a black background. To change this to black-on-white, choose Image>Adjustments>Invert.
    5. Insert a new layer below Layer 1. It will serve as the background for the line illustration. To do this, hold down the Command key while clicking on the New Layer symbol at the bottom of the Layers panel. It is the second symbol from the right. It will become Layer 2.
    6. Fill this new layer with a light color. To do this, click on the Foreground Color symbol in the Tools section. It will open the Color Picker. Choose a light color and click OK.
    7. Choose Edit>Fill. Use: Foreground Color.  Mode: Normal. Opacity: 100% and click OK. Layer 2 will fill with the color. Although it will not appear in the image because Layer 1 is above it, a quick check of the Layers panel will confirm that the color you chose has filled Layer 2.
    8. Remove the white area from in Layer 1. Go to Layer 1. Choose the Magic Wand tool. Uncheck the Contiguous box in the Options Bar and click in a white area of the image. Next, click the Delete key.  Choose Select>Deselect to remove the marching ants.
    9. (Optional)  You may now change the line illustration in Layer 1 from black to a dark color compatible with the color in Layer 2. To choose the color, click on the Foreground Color symbol in the Tools section. It will open the Color Picker. Choose a suitable dark color and click OK. While in Layer 1, click the first symbol next to the word  Lock:  in the Layers panel above Layer 1. This will prevent the dark color from appearing in the blank area of Layer 1. Choose Edit>Fill. Use: Foreground Color.  Mode: Normal. Opacity: 100% and click OK. The black lines will change to the dark color you chose.
    10. Combine Layers1 and 2: While in Layer 1, choose Layer>Merge Down. The layers are combined into a single layer called Layer 2.
    11.  Add a black mask to Layer 2 by clicking on the Mask symbol at the bottom of the Layers panel. It is the symbol to the right of the fx symbol. Where you would like full color objects to appear within the line rendition, paint in white on the black mask with a brush set to either soft-edge or hard-edge as the illustration and your taste dictate.

  • Color picker picks wrong Pantone color in color library

    I have a Pantone swatch and a Pantone color book that contain the same colors. With the color library open in the color picker, I select a color from the swatch using the dropper and most times it gives me the correct color.
    However, some times it doesn't.
    I have verified that the 8 bit RGB values of the colors are identical in the color book and swatch (as shown in the info panel), but still it gives me a different color. Both files are in RGB color, with the swatch stored in 16bit and the color book in 8 bit (file format limitations).
    What causes the wrong color to be selected? How does photoshop calculate the "distance" between the colors to determine which is closest? I would expect that it should select the color that has identical RGB values, even though the one it does select is relatively close in RGB space.

    The color picker always fails on the same colors. My monitor profile is sRGB. Every color profile setting I know of is on sRGB and it doesn't seem to make a difference.
    In the image below I've tried to show what is happening. In the top version, the incorrectly chosen color (wrong red value) is selected in the color library, while the info panel shows the RGB value of the swatch color that the mouse is over. In the bottom version, the correct color was manually selected to show that it does indeed exist in the color book. In this case the RGB value in the info panel (from the swatch) and the RGB is the color library are the same.
